Strap on your Pepto Bismol leotard and get ready to call it a magical night of dreams because it’s time for the women’s Olympic all-around.
Biles comes in as the top qualifier, followed by Andrade and Lee. Nemour, Esposito, and D’Amato round out the cool kids table. In qualification, Biles had a lead of 1.866 on Andrade, but in the team final when Biles performed the Cheng, she outscored Andrade by less than 4 tenths.
Nadia has been assigned to bang the stick tonight.
Oh no, everyone hit her mark for the walk out. Going to be a messy meet.
On the warmups. Simone a little ginger on that calf but doing timers just fine.
Rotation 1
Voss – FX – wolf double, solid – split leap full, around – back 15. to front full, a little under, shuffle back – double tuck, under control, chest down – double L, around on the turn but hopping on her heel – y spin single – 2.5 to front tuck, hits it, little hop. 12.866
Lee – VT – DTY, is fairly good, larger bounce back then we’ve seen, some direction and stagger on landing, solid form overall.
Nakamura starts beam with big 13.700
13.933 vault for Lee, down two tenths on qualification.
Andrade – VT – Cheng, amazing height, nearly stuck, small step back, small pike at the end. 15.100, same as team, up 2 tenths on qualification.
Biles – VT – YDP, hits it, large bounce back and steps to meet but a hit with her 6.4 D score. 15.766, about the same as qualification
D’Amato – VT – hits her DTY, bounce back similar to Suni, small leg separation at the end. 14.000
Qiu – UB – no trouble on the layout jaeger today – but then falls on the stalder tkatchev piked – resumes with a good pak – van leeuwen – FTDT, nice stick
Esposito – VT – DTY, lands chest down with a hop forward – leg separation on the block – bit more pike in the air than Lee or D’Amato. 13.866, would have liked to see that a little lower compared to the other DTYs. But every vault is exactly the same.
Nemour – VT – one of her better DTYs, step back, some chest position. 14.033, gains a little on Lee in the AA race in the first rotation.
Visser – BB – bhs mount, very smooth – aerial, nice height, little waver on landing it – switch, little pause before side somi, holds it with small lean – side jump straight full is hit – side aerial to bhs, smoothly connected – double turn, very good – dance combination is secured – 2.5 dismount, hop, some legs. Nice.
Ou Yushan 13.966 on bars.
NBC showing us the side replay of Flavia’s peel off from warmups in team, way scarier from that view than it looked from behind originally. You can see her neck/head landing.
Saraiva – UB – toe full to tkatchev piked to pak, nice combo – toe on to maloney to gienger, hit – short hs on high – double front, small step back. Lovely.
I don’t like that everyone has to wait until the judges are done with everything to rotate. You can finish that score while people are doing their 2 minute walk time.
After 1
Biles 15.766
Andrade 15.100
Black 14.066
Nemour 14.033
D’Amato 14.000
Lee sits 7th, Esposito 10th.
Laurie pointedly talking about how she’s never been in an individual all-around final. She’s like, remember how I wasn’t on bars in qualification.
Rotation 2
Black – BB – switch to switch 1/2 to korbut is hit – double turn, check – front tuck, secure – bhs tuck full, way off to the side and falls, the dream is dead – hits her 2 foot layout – 2.5 dismount, little hop.
Andrade – UB – maloney to stalder full, nice vertical – tkatchev piked to pak to van leeuwen, clean – piked jaeger, nice – past on 1/2 turn on high – toe full, a bit late into FTDT, hop back. 14.666 is a giant number.
Biles – UB – weiler 1/2 to maloney, leg break to giant full to piked tkatchev to pak – pak is a huge problem, tucks it, maybe avoids brushing the mat, has to do an extra cast hs – now the van leuwen – toe full to double double is stuck. OK now. 13.733, so she’ll trail Andrade after two and needs a beam now.
Kinsella – VT – does the DTY today, large bounce back
D’Amato – UB – toe full to maloney to tkachev, solid – stalder tkatchev piked to pak to stalder shap 1/2, hit – front giant full to double front, little hop, good. 14.800, nice number.
Esposito – UB – falls on her Nabieva, cancel the all-around – resumes with maloney to bhardwaj – van leeuwen – double front, deep, hop to the side
Martha Stewart is here being like, “I would have hit it.”
Ou – BB – hits fhs front tuck solidly – switch to switch 1/2 to korbut, smooth – little lean into split split ring and bhs but nice – double turn, excellent – side somi, small check and additional lean working out of it – 2.5, lunge forward. Good one. 14.033
Nemour – UB – inber full to inbar nabieva to pak to inbar shap to stalder full, big arch, pulls it back – into stalder tkatchev 1/2 to yezhova to stalder shap 1/2 – full to DLO, hop back. Hit it, one big arch. 15.533 today, gets the 7.2 D score, which is significant.
Saraiva – BB – bhs mount – pause before split to korbut – full turn, smooth 1/4 turn into side choreography – bhs loso loso, right on – switch ring, hit, step forward – switch ring, step – aerial to split ring jump – side somi, little adjustment – hits double pike dismount with step back. 14.266
Lee – UB – Nabieva to bhardwaj, good – van leeuwen, hit – a bit she on high – jaeger to pak to maloney, leg break to gienger, connected well – giant full – FTDT, college step salute. Good one. 14.866 keeps her in good position, 5th place after 2.
After 2
Andrade 29.766
Nemour 29.566
Biles 29.499
D”Amato 28.800
Lee 28.799
Athletes now waiting on Nakamura’s floor score and Flavia’s beam inquiry to be resolved. Nakamura’s floor is in on 12.633. Now everyone has to start around for this inquiry. Not a helpful way to run a meet.
Inquiry rejected, Flavia on 14.266 for beam.
So basically the advantage Biles gained with the YDP is gone after the bars mistake, and we’re basically where we were in the team final, with Andrade having a slight advantage based on vault and bars together. In team, Biles outscored Andrade by .233 on beam and .466 on floor.
Qiu did not go for the bhs arabian series again today on beam.
Biles beam is THE routine at this point.
Rotation 3
Qiu – FX – double y spin, gets 2 around before falling out of it – FTDT, hit, step back – front twisting is excellent – switch ring 1/2, nice – popa – double tuck, a little deep, slide back. 13.233
Biles – BB – switch mount – switch to switch 1/2 to back pike, hit – wolf triple, gets it around with arms – aerial to split to straddle, connected – bhs loso loso is right on – side aerial, another waver today, not as big as team – bhs bhs FTDT, hop back. Critical hit for her.
No one has ever been more relieved at this moment than Cecile.
14.566 beam for Biles. Down on qualification, up on the team final, which feels about right.
D’Amato – Bb – switch mount to aerial to split to sissone, nice – switch to switch ring, arm wave but nice element – bhs los, holds it – front tuck, little lean – wolf double, hit, leany – 2.5 dismount, hop. Good work again.
Now she’s getting her foot worked on on the floor while people try to come by and hug her and camera people are maneuvering. She’s propped up on a suitcase. Got to be a better system, right?
14.033 for D’Amato. Remains RIGHT there.
Martins – VT – goes for a DTY! Why not, lands it super short, on hands and knees
Esposito – BB – bhs mount to loso loso, right on – switch to split jump 1/2, check – aerail to split to bhs, smooth, lovely – side aerial, bigger wobble, leg up – wolf triple, solid – double pike, bounce back. 14.200, very nice.
Meanwhile Ou Yushan got around a 15000 turn on floor. But landed locked leg on a combo pass and sits her front tuck out of it
Bars redemption for Kinsella with a 14.133.
Nemour – BB – loso mount to loso, solid – bhs bhs layout two feet, large break, turn to the side, keeps it on the beam – wolf double, hit – side aerial – switch, pause before switch 1/2, under split, arm check – aerial, arm wave before split to korbut – bhs bhs double pike, chest down, step. A hit, execution score shouldn’t be as high as the beamers who’ve gone before. 13.033
Saraiva – FX – DLO, great landing control with chest a little forward – switch 1/1 is nice – double tuck, insane bounce back so far that she couldn’t control landed on her chest
Lee – BB – wolf triple, very smooth – aerial, large break, leg up wobble – split to bhs is hit – switch to switch 1/2 to split ring jump, good elements – side aerial loso loso is on today – switch ring, arm wave and step – gaienr pike full, deep, lunge forward. Some bigger issues today but a hit.
Lee gets a 14.000, similar to qualification, which works for her but behind D’Amato just barely.
Andrade – BB – switch mount, check – switch to switch 1/2 to split jump, good – bhs loso, big break, leg up – aerial to split ring to bhs is nice – switch ring, hit – side aerial, smooth – full turn – double pike dismount, a tad shy with a hop forward. A good one but gave away come things.
Nemour gets her inquiry accepted for 13.233, so she’s back in.
Black – FX – front full through to 3/1, just barely around, hop forward – back 2.5 through to double tuck, hits it, chest down, hop forward – split leap full to switch full – double pike, bounce back
We’re stillllll waiting on Andrade’s beam score.
14.133 matches team final, she’ll be into 2nd, about 2 tenths behind Biles heading to floor.
After 3
Biles 44.065
Andrade 43.899
D’Amato 42.833
Nemour 42.799
Lee 42.799
Bronze is getting goooooooood.
Rotation 4
D’Amato – FX – double double, steps back OOB – 3/1, hit, another bounce back – wolf double – switch – split leap full, good – split jump full – front 2/1, hop forward – switch ring.
Kinsella – BB – candle mount, hit – wolf double is a problem, grabs the beam but does cover into meant to do that – aerial to split jump to straddle jump – side aerial to loso, very solid – switch to swtich 1/2 to korbut, gets the combination – 2.5 dismount, lunge lunge to the side
D’Amato goes 13.500, which is actually a pretty useful number for her with that OOB and those landings. 56.333
Esposito – FX – wolf triple, around – DLO, way short, lands on her knees – why is this happening to me specifically – gets double y spin to illusion – split ring to split full, nice – 2.5 to front lay, hop forward – doubel pike, straddles it, lands gingerly on the right foot with a little hop to the side. 12.733
Ellie Black hits vault, medium hop forward.
Nemour – FX – DLO, chest down, hop forward, hit – back 1.5 with some legs into 3/1, lunge to the side, extra step – switch ring – split leap full – wolf 2.25 – back 1/2 to double pike, chest down to lunge forward – switch full, slide. That should not go ahead of D’Amato.
NBC has the closeup of the landing on her second pass, just barely OOB on the step?
13.100 for Nemour, in behind D’Amato.
Lee – FX – DLO 1/1, very good control on landing – switch ring to split full – back 1.5 to front full, little hop – double L turn, around for credit – wolf triple, pulls the third twist around – double tuck, a litttttle short with a hop forward. For me, she had it until that double tuck, and now we wait and see. It’s clossseee.
13.666 for Lee is enough. She will have a medal. 56.465.
Andrade – FX – front full through to FTDT, step back OOB, feels very Tokyo – DLO 1/1, nice, hop back – split leap 1.5 remains a little too crazy for ability level, under rotated – double y – DLO, nice landing, very small movement – switch – switch 1/1 – double pike, hop back
14.033 for Andrade, into first. Biles needs 13.868, which is a miss for her.
Biles – FX – triple double, hop back, stays in bounds – front full through to double double, solid, small slide – switch to split leap 1.5, pulls it around – wolf 2.25 – Biles I, step forward, no connect, looks like she kept it in bounds – switch 1/1, probably no credit, landed a little under – DLO, bounce back. That will do it for gold.
Judges are like LET’S MILKKKK THISSSSSSSS.
15.0666
1 – Biles – 59.131
2 – Andrade – 57.932
3 – Lee – 56.465

SO excited!!!!!!!
Oh my god Sarah Voss is actually using a Fall Out Boy song as her floor music. What in the Stick It.
Re: Flavia s fall on upper back & neck…now I know why people say you can get killed in this sport. Where was spotter?
Suni is gonna need full difficulty on bars to keep up with Nemour if she wants that bronze
Simone is making it interesting!! Did she do the new skill?!!
Nope, guess we’ll have to settle for 5 named skills.
I want Simone’s last competition to be a world cup where she goes, competes only bars, does the Weiler 1.5, kips out of it, and hops off and salutes with a skill named after her on every event. Seriously, what could be more iconic.
here for the increased spencer snark with each passing competition blog. brilliant.
This falls and mistakes.. you’ve called it Spencer, it’s because everyone hit their mark for the walk out
Suni behind by that #%^&*( truncating vs rounding issue.
Ugh. Suni. She’s gonna need Nemour to falter
I’m gonna have a heart attack gosh. I held my breath throughout Simone’s routine
“College step salute” is a vibe.
This is such an exciting competition!!! Does Simone go last?!
Was that Simone’s best floor routine ever?
Naaaaah…2023 Team Final was better, I think.
she didn’t trip on a leap pass though, so…it doesn’t count.
Wow. Even with that big UB error, Simone still won by over a point. I spent the whole time watching yelling “the green is lava!” at the tv and she stayed in bounds the whole time. She is the greatest for a reason. If Paris is her last competition, she’s going out with a bang.
Alice D’Amato was robbed. Suni stepped OOB, and the judges ignored the deduction. Then on floor she fell out of her last pass, and it was like the judges didn’t even see it. She also didn’t layout her beam dismount, and tucked it, and they still gave her credit for it.
This is fucked up.
Suni did not step out
Yes, she did. There is proof all over the place. There is video proof, AND, screencaps. Do some re-search before proving you’re an idiot.
Not even close, buddy.
Really wanted Andrade to win the gold but alas. Wish she’d had a perfect FX so that the scores would’ve been closer at least. Still not over her two OOBs in Tokyo which lost her the gold ugh
Questions about suni’s D score – Bar in team final 6.3? Was nabieva downgraded? Also her beam D scores in all beam events so far all seem to be 0.1 less? (Just like her beam D in AA final in Tokyo should’ve been 0.1 more unless I’m really missing something here?)I get the qualification the triple Wolfe was probably downgraded. But in team final and AA too? Why didn’t USA submit inquiries?
