Ah, the last of the normal Fridays. Next weekend, we transition into championship season, with the trophies and the four judges per event and all that. But for now, another chance to get a score.

All nine SEC teams are in action tonight with (*whispers*) nothing immediate to gain from anything that happens because the conference championship sessions are already set, with Oklahoma, LSU, Florida, and Alabama getting into the coveted post-Happy-Hour, no-bye-rotation night session.

The teams really fighting for something today are Ball State, Rutgers, Washington, Penn, and maybe Towson and Boise State. They’re right on the cusp of regionals qualification and could use a 196. Like, immediately. Penn, Towson, and Ball State are up first before the name brands begin, so I want to start by keeping an eye on the scores for those teams.

Getting started, Brie Clark nearly stuck a Tsuk full leading off vault for Clemson but then it was too good so she had to step back.

Ava Molina led off bars for Ball State with a Van Leeuwen and stuck DLO, so feels like they’re aware of the 196 assignment. McMahon followed her with very good toe point in handstand positions but a pretty large bounce back on double tuck.

The NC State/WVU broadcast is spending a lot of time on the stick plunger hat, which is correct.

Clemson has a case of the .100 steps on vault, but they’re still getting usable 9.8s. Near stick from Walsh for 9.900.

Towson nearly went to the coveted 49 pace on vault to open with a 48.975, capped by an extremely far Y1.5.

Excellent bars from Szymanski to finish for Ball State, huge Gienger, stuck double tuck. 9.825, which is very funny because if she were on a big team the crowd would be booing after that got 9.925. 48.825 not quite the pace they need.

Penn just 48.550 on floor with nothing above a 9.725, which will make it tough to get a big total today.

Malewski for Clemson struggled on cast handstand positions today on bars but did pull out the stick on her double tuck, so 9.850 and a rotation high so far.

Ball State vaults a 48.625, which is well below the 196 pace again, but they’re currently sitting #35, so if no one gets the 196 they’re all looking for, staying reasonably close in a winning path. But they’ve got to go 49s on the remaining events.

Parenti is back on beam and floor today for Michigan. Pederson remains out for Oklahoma. No Frazier listed on floor for Florida.

A first? Eve Jackson just tied the Clemson program bars record in exhibition. Does that count? Peak NCAA gymnastics.

Penn matches Towson’s 48.975 on vault to get closer to the pace for a countable score. Towson goes 49.150 on bars to get over 196 pace. Both teams very much on the outside right now, so they need to put up big ones both today and Sunday.

9.975s continue. Elle Hadrick 9.975 on bars for NC State.

Rotation 1 – Florida @ Kentucky

Hofseth – VT – Kentucky – Leah Little already told us that “it’s do time” so it’s going to be a day. Yfull is hit, bounce back, not a ton of distance, some pike. 9.825

Frazier – UB – Florida – hits first hs – toe on to maloney to pak, small leg seps in both, hit – 1/2 turn on low – borderline hs on high – DLO, holds onto stick but a lean forward. 9.925

Rizo – VT – Kentucky – Yfull – “this is a yurchenko 1.5” – hop back, little pike as well, more dynamics than Hofseth. 9.850

Prettttty loose scoring start on both events.

Pilgrim – UB – Florida – good hs – maloney, leg sep into tkatchev, solid hit – pak, comfortable – good 1/2 turn position on low – rushes hs a little on high – FTDT, holds the stick. 9.900

Gardner – VT – Kentucky – hs pike 1/2 is hit, full tenth hop back and a leg separation. 9.850

Blakely – UB – Florida – good first hs – stalder tkatchev piked to pak, good – excellent 1/2 turn on low – a little short hs – higgins to front giant to double front 1/2, holds the stick kind of, just a little jarred up in place, so not a perfect landing. 9.950

Noonan – VT – Kentucky – ro 1/2 on pike 1/2, hop back but pretty solid leg position in the air and chest up on landing. 9.875

DiCello – UB – Florida – good hs on high – Church to pak, excellent – hits hs on low – van leeuwen – FTDT, stuck. Fab, super clean. Leah called her Church a dismount, but at least caught herself. 9.950

Rodriguez – VT – Kentucky – Y1.5, pretty flat off the vault but got it to her feet, under rotated with a hop back. Still 9.800

Harris-Miranda – UB – Florida – Ray, hit, not her highest but enough – toe on to bail, excellent position, good hs – short hs on high – DLO, a little piking but better, good stick. Oh look another 9.950

Cashion – VT – Kentucky – hs pike 1/2, holds onto the stick well, doesn’t get a ton of distance but lands well, little waver to hold the stick. Very strong. 9.950.

McCusker – UB – Florida – stalder shap to pak, clean – little hesitation on hs on low – van leeuwen, nice – stalder to double tuck, nearly stuck, little slide back. Good. Everything is 9.950!

The last three routines and four of the final five were 9.950. You guys, 9.975 is over. We’re just 9.950 now because we’re realllly tightening things up for the postseason.

But also Oklahoma only got 49.225 on bars and is losing to Michigan.

After 1:
Florida 49.725, Kentucky 49.350

We’re definitely feeling fancy today, but a very strong bars from Florida. Of the “everything is the same 9.950” club, I had DiCello’s as the strongest and the others more like 9.900s. Kentucky OK on vault but very hoppy until Cashion, probably should have been a couple 9.7s in there.

Towson only 48.500 on beam, which hurts.

Rotation 2

Pilgrim – VT – Florida – Y1.5, hit but a pretty big hop forward, small leg separation on block. 9.875

Rizo – UB – Kentucky – short first hs – blind to jaeger, good foot position – hits hs on high – bail, legs together, slight angle – borderline hs – DLO, piking, holds onto the stick but an arm circle to do so. 9.825

Frazier – VT – Florida – DTY, pretty good one, hop back, off direction, little leg separation. 9.900

Rivelli – UB – Kentucky – also short on her first hs – blind to jaeger, good form, fingertips it, connects to overshoot – DLO, can’t hold finish position with step-salute back. 9.825

DiCello – VT – Florida – y1.5, good form but under rotated, lands short with lunge back. 9.775

Van Frayen – UB – Kentucky – blind to jaeger, also well exeuted – archs hs on high but pulls it back – pak, with leg sep – FTDT, under with a step forward. Either we have a very misleading angle or everyone is missing their cast handstands. 9.775

Ferris – VT – Florida – y1.5 is her normal, hit, medium one-tenth hop forward, small leg separation. 9.925, OK.

Bennett – UB – Kentucky – maloney to pak, legs together well – completes 1/2 turn in time on low – toe on to DLO, chest forward with a hop. 9.775

Blakely – VT – Florida – Lopez is hit well – little hop with chest forward, good position in the air, leg sep on block. 9.900

Noonan – UB – Kentucky – better hs on high – Ray to overshoot – solid hs on high from her as well – DLO, some piking, good stick

Harris-Miranda – VT – Florida – Y1.5, medium hop forward, solid legs together position. 9.875

Rodriguez – UB – Kentucky – tkatchev, solid clear hip to bail, legs together – very short hs on high – DLO, little pike down, hop forward. 9.825

After 2
Florida 99.200
Kentucky 98.450

Florida fine on vault, and they will take fine at this point. No sticks and most were not close to sticking, but they hit them and the judges were willing to go on the journey. In real life (if we ever get there), they won’t be able to anticipate 9.900 for any of the vaults they performed today though. Lots of short handstands and chest-down-hop landings for Kentucky on bars, but through over 49, so the 197 is still a possibility.

Oklahoma was like, “enough of that noise” and got two 9.975s on vault and 49.650 to move ahead of Michigan after 2.

Two routines left for each team and Clemson is only up on BYU by .050. And now Andersen just went 9.975 on beam for BYU.

Ball State lost to CMU and finished on 195.025, which will hurt their NQS and open the door for others.

Rotation 3

Rizo – BB – Kentucky – hits candle mount – aerial, comfortable – bhs loso, controlled, solid position, chest just a bit down – switch to straddle 1/4, tight straddle and a wobble – full turn, good – 1.5 dmt, step forward. 9.775

G Disidore – FX – Florida – rudi to double stag, controls with a bit of arms, but solid – switch side 1/2 to popa, well completed – back 1.5 to lay, quick dance out, slight leg sep and lack of amplitude. 9.875

Brie Clark went 9950 on floor, which wasn’t quite enough as Clemson lost to BYU but with a season high for both, 197.225-197.175.

Brose – BB – Kentucky – front tuck, good height, small waver – kickover, keeps moving to bhs – switch to beat – full turn, holds it – 1.5 dmt, stuck. 9.900

Towson finished 195.900, which is useful. Penn on 195.100, which will lower their NQS a tad.

Ferris – FX – Florida – FTDT, solid completion, bounce back – switch side 1/2 to popa, around well – back 1.5 to lay, similar to disidore’s, fine hit, traveling a little forward rather than up with a cover dance out. 9.875

Skylar Draser is just wearing a full slanket on the sidelines.

Lee – BB – Kentucky – bhs bhs loso and falls, looked like she got nothing into the last loso, landed super short, no way to keep it on the beam – resumes with switch to straddle 1/4, hit – aerial is nice, connects to beat jump – full turn – sticks 1.5 dmt. 9.200

A Disidore – FX – Florida – DLO, pikes down at the end to control but it works, controls the step back – switch 1/2 to popa to popa, ever so slightly out of control at the end, a little under on switch 1/2 – back 1.5 to lay, little leg sep in 1.5. 9.925

Bennett – BB – Kentucky – full turn – bhs loso loso, solid landing – cat leap aerial, solid position, checky on landing – switch to beat – gainer pike, holds onto stick. 9.875

Booker – FX – Florida – FTDT, lands deep and lunges back, possible OOB but can’t tell from this angle – switch side and a 1/4 into straddle 3/4 – front tuck to double tuck, controls the step on that one. Is there a bicycle bell in this music? What is going on?

On replay she did go OOB. 9.775

Van Frayen – BB – Kentucky – bhs loso, secure, a bit of knee but solid – full turn, slight control correction – aerial, holds onto it – switch to switch 1/2, on – 1.5 dmt, lean forward and step on landing. 9.775

Blakely – FX – Florida – double front to stag jump is better than last week, but the foot flex and cowboy, but controls it – tour jete 1/2 to popa is around – no she did not “have a 10 last year on floor” – back 1.5 to lay is clean and under control. 9.950

Rodriguez – BB – Kentucky – switch, back leg a little low, into straddle 1/4, hit – bhs bhs loso, secure – full turn, hit – side somi is solid – 1.5, good stick. Some knee and leg position throughout but secure routine.

Alabama went 49.600 on bars but after a 49,075 vault they trail Georgia by about 2 tenths.

And a 9.900/10.000 split for Rodriguez. Or “there’s a 10 on the beam” apparently.

Harris – FX – Florida – front tuck through to double tuck, chest up, under control – ohhhh they’re really going for the 10 by not having her do her difficulty – switch side 1/2 to straddle to shushunova – back 1.5 to 1/2 to double stag. 9.950

After 3
Florida 148.775
Kentucky 147.725

Florida is having a perfectly solid meet, so is therefore well over 198 pace. Kentucky is able to drop a beam fall so remains in it for a 197 with a hit floor.

Oklahoma also went 49.575 on floor, while Michigan went only 49.025 on beam, so that one has really shifted in a hurry.

Rotation 4

Draser – BB – Florida – bhs loso, check, some flexed foot – switch to switch 1/2, controls again slightly with the arm, solid split positions, full turn, comfortable – 1.5 dmt, a little short, one tenth step back. 9.775

Van Frayen – FX – Kentucky – wolf double with an “I didn’t kind of fall onto my butt after my wolf turn, I’m just being artistry” – double tuck, small slide back – switch ring to switch 1/2, good – front lay to rudi, chest a little down but controls the step. 9.850

Arana – BB – Florida – bhs loso, good one – aerial, nice amplitude, comfortable – switch to switch 1/2, good switch, a little shorter on switch 1/2 with a wobble – gainer full, nice stick. 9.925

Rizo – FX – Kentucky – front tuck through to double tuck, controls step (jusssst), solid chest position – double pike, really nice open position but can’t quite sell the control on that landing with a slide and lean – split leap to switch 1/1 to straddle 1/2 – back 1.5 to layout, high 1.5. 9.850

Alabama has two 9.6s on beam. Georgia has a leadoff floor fall they need to drop –

Blakely – BB – Florida – wolf triple is comfortable – aerial to bhs, smoothly connected – switch 1/2 to beat jump, little bit of feet but pretty solid split position – wolf jump, good – gainer full, stuck. Great.

Also gets a 9.900/10.000 split from the same judges. So that everyone’s party favor has the same stuff in it.

Bennett – FX – Kentucky – double pike, good height but too much power, bounce back, just stays in bounds – switch ring to wolf hop full – front lay to front full, sticks, a little low, holds onto the stick – double tuck, just a little deep but chest up, under control. 9.900

Frazier – BB – Florida – full turn, comfortable – aerial to loso, keeps moving – split jump to split ring jump, fantastic – 1.5 dmt, stuck. Nice. And a 9.975 for her.

Gardner – FX – Kentucky – DLO, good layout position throughout, small bounce – switch side to wolf full is kind of an issue, over turns switch side and under on wolf position – front through to double tuck, just keeps front foot down. 9.900

DiCello – BB – Florida – wolf double, little lean correction at the end – switch to split, good, comfortable 180s – bhs loso, secure – aerial, litttttle lean, holds it – bhs gainer full, good stick.

9.950 with another 9.900/10.000 split. That was the least 10 of the last three for me.

Rodriguez – FX – Kentucky – rudi to layout is solid – switch side and a little into wolf full, also under on her wolf position – double tuck, solid control on step back, chest down – back 15 to 1/2 to straddle jump is under control. 9.900

Harris-Miranda – BB – Florida – bhs loso bhs, strong – switch to straddle 1/4, good height – full turn – 1.5 dmt, stuck. Very good and she went last, so…10.000!

And a 49.800!

Brose – FX – Kentucky – double pike, great position, maybe a little bounce back – tour jete 1/2 to wolf full, I think good completion but we got a closeup – back 1.5 to front lay, hit – front 2/1, very well controlled. 9.950

So, Florida got 198.575, which is the 10th-best score in college gymnastics history. Was it that? No. Bars and beam were very strong. though, and would legitimately warrant 198 pace. Floor and vault were a little medium and got away with the scores. If you’re Florida, you say bars and beam would win an SEC championship next week, but vault and floor wouldn’t necessarily.

FINAL
Florida 198.575
Kentucky 197.225

Oklahoma finished 197.925, so…a missed meet?

Checked in on LSU in time to see Chio stick again. I wonder what score it will gettttttttttt. 10.000. Very strong vault. Not too mad at it.

Morgan Price anchors bars for Arkansas and goes over on a handstand and immediately falls. She’s going after Avery King went over on a handstand and did a tuck swing on the low bar to not fall but scored 9.475, which will now count.

Also Georgia has a .6 lead on Alabama in Alabama, but they’re going to beam and Alabama to floor, so I want to see what’s happening there.

Gleichowski – BB – Georgia – bhs bhs loso, hit securely, little front foot side back afterward – full turn – beat to switch 1/2, a little under and then a step back correction – 1.5 dmt hop forward. 9.825 feels like a high start

Lacoursiere – FX – Alabama – double tuck, chest up, controls step – switch ring to tour jete 1/2, positions looked good but a control step back on landing – front lay to rudi to double stag, pulls out the double stag, a little low. 9.875

Tomlin – BB – Georgia – candle mount, hit – switch to straddle, good – bhs bhs loso, holds on securely – full turn – 1.5 dmt looked super high in the air but she ends up landing short with a large lunge back. 9.825

Rybicki – FX – Alabama – double tuck, good chest position – switch side side 1/2 ish to straddle 3/4 ish – 1.5 to front full, good control. 9.900

Rutgers just went 196.550, which will help the regionals cause tremendously.

Woolford – BB – Georgia – wolf double, nice – bhs loso, super high but a pretty large lean wobble landing it – switch to split jump, excellent – 2/1 dmt chest forward with a hop. The classic case of “if it were worse, it would have been better” on her series there. If she had more deficient amplitude, she probably wouldn’t have wobbled. 9.800

Matters – FX – Alabama – front tuck through to double tuck, great landing, and nice toe position in front tuck – switch side 1/2 to popa, around well but also lunges back afterward like Lacoursiere – double pike, chest forward, hops quickly to present but did land under. 9.875

Battle – BB – Georgia – full turn – split jump 1/2 from side gets very wild, leg up wobble – switch to split jump, hit – kickover, connects to beat – bhs loso and another wobble – gainer full, stuck.

Georgia committed to keep thing interesting.

But somehow still keeps getting 9.825s

Cucci sticks a strong Y1.5 on vault for Arkansas. 9.925

Ra-Akbar – FX – Alabama – front tuck to 2.5, controls the step, nice twisting position as usual – switch ring to switch 1/2 – 1.5 to layout, strong layout position, dance out – wolf turn hit – 9.950

C Williams – BB – Georgia – bhs layout, stays on, step back – side somi, oh dear, I thought she had brought it back with an arm circle but then she kept arm circling and suddenly was off the beam. 9.225

Blackson goes over on a handstand on bars for LSU and falls. Third botched cast handstand of that meet.

Sears – FX – Alabama – DLO, controls the landing, chest slightly forward, didn’t show up in a control movement – switch side 1/2 to a high straddle, also a little out of control on landing – front through to double tuck, comfortable, chest up, looks like she controlled the step. 9.950

McClain finishes bars for LSU after the Blackson fall – a little close on Church but works out of it – toe on to pak is excellent – rushes through 1/2 turn on low – solid hs on high – FTDT, stuck. A couple things, but a usable hit. Which means one judge gave it a 10. I don’t know how either.

LSU and Arkansas both go 49.375 in rotation 2.

Scott – BB – Georgia – also has to hit after a fall – lovely full turn – bhs loso, very good – aerial to split to bhs, perfect positions, a little slow between aerial and split – switch to split, great – fhs rudi dismount, a little off balance with a step to the side. 9.900 is enough to win it. Somehow after that wobble-burger of a beam rotation.

Gladieux – FX – Alabama – FTDT, good stick, shins a little apart – tour jete 1/2 to popa, around well – front lay to rudi to split jump, controls the landing. 9.975. Very secure landings and coming after two 9.950s in the anchor position on senior night, and she didn’t even get a 10? Is Alabama even bribing anyone these dayssssss?

FINAL: Georgia 197.525, Alabama 197.425

After 2 rotations at LSU, LSU leads 98.900 to 98.175

Rotation 3 – LSU v Arkansas

Coen – BB – LSU – aerial to beat, secure, bent knee in aerial – bhs loso, wobble, turn to the side, bend at the hips – switch to split jump – full turn – 1.5 dmt, some leg crossing, doesn’t hold the stick with a step back into salute. 9.750

Klein – FX – Arkansas – front tuck through to double tuck, bounce back slide – switch side 1/2 to straddle – front lay to front full, hit, a little low – 9.825

Zeiss – BB – LSU – beat jump – side aerial, hit – aerial, keeps moving into bhs for the connection, soft knee in both elements – switch to split, loses back foot in switch, good control – wolf double, solid – gainer tuck full, hop back. 9.825

Weaver – FX – Arkansas – front tuck through to double tuck, lands short with chest down step forward – switch side 1/2 to straddle, Arkansas uses that combination savvily – back 1.5 to lay, good straight layout position

Drayton – BB – LSU – switch 1/2, great position but a wobble, step and arm wave – bhs loso, very good – switch to split jump, correct – full turn, also nice – 2/1 dmt, small movement on landing. 9.825.

Cucci – FX – Arkansas – DLO, hit, pikes down to control, leg separation in the air – switch side overturn to straddle 3/4 – front tuck through to double tuck, chest down, controls step back. 9.900

Lincoln – BB – LSU – aerial to bhs, good connection – switch 1/2 to beat, great – full turn, little waver – switch to split jump, very strong – bhs 1.5, little scoot with left foot. 9.900

Leah Smith hits in the 4th spot for Arkansas, minor foot wavers on landing but pretty much under control. 9.900

McClain – BB – LSU – sissone very slight hesitation to switch 1/2 to beat, no trouble – aerial to bhs, smoothly connected, good elegant use of chalk plume – full turn, holds position for a year – side aerial, solid – pauses choreo to take aggressive deep breath – gainer full, a little forward and hesitant but holds onto the stick. Very good. 9.925

Williams – FX – Arkansas – FTDT, good control, chest up, shins apart – switch side to popa, around – back 1.5 to front full, slide forward. 9.900

Chio – BB – LSU – bhs mount, solid – bhs loso, under control – full turn – aerial to split jump, secure – switch to split, nice positions – bhs 1.5, stuck. Solid. 10.000, her second of the meet.

Roberson – FX – Arkansas – DLO, just keeps that front foot down, hips moving back a little – switch side 1/2 to popa, that was her best landing position on leaps I’ve seen this year – front loso to double tuck, looks under control on the step. 9.900

After 3
LSU 148.375
Arkansas 147.600

Chio’s just like, “I guess I’ll do all of itttttt.” Arkansas has kept it very close over the last two events. If they had hit bars, we would have a real meet going.

Jay’s pissy about McClain’s 9.925, which I totally get given the everything else, even though…9.925 is a gigantic score for a great routine and should mean more because 9.925s should be rare. That routine should get a 9.925. The problem isn’t her score, it’s everyone else’s bonkers high scores for obvious mistakes.

Rotation 4

Park – BB – Arkansas – full turn, a little rushed but no check – bhs loso, holds it, some knee position – switch to switch, hit, travels out more than up but again no check – 1.5 dismount, knees, lean forward arm wave to hold the stick. 9.875

Innes – FX – LSU – front 2/1, just slightly under-rotated – back 1.5 to lay, good layout shape – tour jete 1/2 to popa, doesn’t get up to 180 there, step back to control landing – rudi to double stag, shows control. 9.850

Gustitus – BB – Arkansas – bhs loso, solid – switch, little pause before switch 1/2 to split jump, small correction – kind of tentative on full turn – gainer pike, some knees, step back. 9.850

This is why you can’t fault Jay for being upset about McClain going 9.925 if this barely a different score, with a step and a check.

Ballou – FX – LSU – DLO, good control, some pike down – switch side, slight over turn into wolf full – front lay to rudi, very comfortable landing. 9.900

Klein – BB – Arkansas – standing loso loso, very solid, a little knee but one of her best ones – switch to straddle 1/4, shorter back leg on switch, good control – full turn – 1.5 dismount, little step adjustment. 9.900

Coen – FX – LSU – front 2/1, slightly stepped around at the end, knees in twisting – front lay to front full, under control, knees again – tour jete 1/2 to popa to popa, travels a little but gets it around. 9.925.

Jay’s going to complain with equal fervor about how this 9.925 is too high also right? RIGHTTTTT?

Weaver – BB – Arkansas – bhs loso, hit – side aerial, holds it, feet were a little off but didn’t check – straddle to stag ring, good control – 1.5 stuck. 9.900

Drayton – FX – LSU – DLO, high but lands under, chest down, step forward – switch ring to switch 1/2, excellent – front tuck through to double tuck, good control – 9.900

Can we get this guy to stop complimenting how thin and light people are?

Cucci – FX – Arkansas – also secure on the loso series – aerial, knee – switch to split 1/2, good control and 180 – 1.5 dmt, hop forward. 9.850

Chio – FX – LSU – open FTDT, good control on landing, chest position forward – switch ring little footwork hesitation into tour jete 1/2, around – 2.5 to front tuck, good landing, little bit of crossed legs.

And we have a third 10.000 for Chio. It’s the least 10 of the three for me. Flexed feet and chest position on first pass take that lower.

Roberson – BB – Arkansas – straddle 1/2 to back tuck, very good landing – full turn, hit – side aerial to loso, also solid, some soft knee position in loso – punch 1.5, just holds onto the stick, back on her heels slightly. And 9.975.

Lincoln – FX – LSU – DLO, excellent landing, stuck, chest up – stag jump to switch to gogean, pretty much around, a little foot stagger, great height and position – front lay to front full, stuck. 9.975. I mean, that was definitely stronger than Chio’s.

FINAL
LSU 198.075
Arkansas 197.100

LSU has some really great stuff happening at the end of lineups that can beat any other team. Do they have the quality in the first three up to win, though? At this point, their lineup beginnings aren’t yet national championship level and still opening them up to get 2025ed at nationals, but if they can get through those to Chio, Lincoln, Drayton, they can win.

Arkansas was basically going to have one of their best scores ever if they had hit bars.
