It’s a big day. Let’s get lost in a world of knees.

For the first semifinal out of LSU, pre-competition lineups have Barbosu returning to the all-around, back on vault instead of Dugan. For Michigan, Parenti is back on bars instead of Jordan, and there are a fair amount of changes for North Carolina compared to ACCs, including Fink in the AA and Seabrooks not.

The CMU/Rutgers play-in is underway. Germond (CMU) hits a yfull with a step back. Uhlenberg (Rutgers) struggles on bars, hits the mat swining through after her bail.

LSU Semifinal 1 – Rotation 1

Jung-Ruivivar – VT – Stanford – yfull, hop back, leg separation on block. 9.750

Stippich UB – UNC – short first hs – blind to jaeger to overshoot, hit, a little close-safe on jaeger but fine – DLO, good open position, little hop

Parenti – BB – Michigan – secure bhs loso series – switch to split, slight hesitation in split, not her usual 180 position – cut in the middle of her aerial to see Utah State on floor, so that’s fun. Did we lose split screen technology? 9.800

Orengo hits double tuck, mostly controls the step – switch 3/4 to a wolf jump 3/4, slight lack of landing precision – 1.5 to front lay, hit, lower

barbosu – VT – Stanford – Tsuk full is hit, bounce back and some pike throughout

King – UB – UNC – toe on to maloney, leg seps in that and pak – slight hesitation in 1/2 turn on low but hit – stalder to double tuck, holds onto stick with a lean. 9.850

Walters – BB – Michigan – kickover, keeps moving through lean to bhs – split to switch 1/2 to beat, a little under on switch 1/2, secure – punch front full, can’t hold stick with step forward into salute. 9.775

Yelle – FX – Utah St – front 2/1, a bit of knee crossing and under rotation but under control

Gronski – VT – Stanford – yfull, nice in the air but ends up with a low chest and hop forward, so won’t be a huge number. 9.700

Davis – BB – Michigan – bhs loso series, smooth – cat leap side aerial to beat, also secure – switch, lower back leg, to pike jump – gainer full, step back. 9.775

Stanley – UB – UNC – maloney, a little low but hits it into pak, good legs together – 1/2 turn on low is past – good feet throughout – DLO, chest down, hop forward. 9.800

Peterson – FX – Utah St – front lay to rudi, bounce back – switch side 1/2 to straddle – front lay to higher front foot, bounce forward. 9.775

Ranger – BB – Michigan – full turn, hit – bhs loso bigger wobble, turn to the side and a lean – switch to pike jump is solid – kickover, nice – double tuck, small step. 9.725

Prejean – UB – UNC – short first hs – nice high tkatchev to pak, leg sep – a little slow on 1/2 turn on low – short hs on high – double front, good open finish but a hop forward

Roberts – VT – Stanford – didn’t get her usual block but was still clean in the air, a little short and then a couple small step shuffle on landing. 9.775

Morabito – FX – Utah St – front tuck through to double tuck, keeps the front foot down – sissone, nice – switch to tour jete 1/1, a little under rotated, front lay front full front tuck, good control. 9.850

Boozer – BB – Michigan – split and straddle, great – aerial, smooth, good knee position – full turn – only a bhs, balking on her combination and just stops with the bhs – does another bhs into loso, and hit – switch split jump to straddle 1/4, small check – gainer full, holds it. 9.825

Fink – UB – UNC – jaeger is hit, a little close but no loss of rhythm – pretty position on bail – short hs on high – DLO, tries to sell holding the finish, a little off balance. 9.850

Nguyen – VT – Stanford – that was better, hits Y1.5, a couple small things, knees, flatter, direction. but strong distance, good landing. 9.950.

Vater – FX – Utah St – front 2/1, under rotated, controls the step but short of 2 fulls –

Bauman – BB – Michigan – bhs loso, solid – switch to straddle 1/2 to beat, hit – side somi piked, little check – gainer pike, stuck. 9.900

Rueda – UB – UNC – toe on to maloney to pak, bigger leg separation on pak – short on 1/2 turn on low, little balance stepping up to high – giant full, past, into double tuck hop back. 9.750

Gruber – FX – Utah St – 2.5 to front tuck, a little out of control on the step forward – switch side 1/2 to straddle – back 1.5 to front full, not the highest amplitude but gets it done

Rutgers with a one tenth lead on CMU after one rotation.

Chiu – UB – Pitt – short first hs – jaeger, hit – short on her casts – legs together on bail hs – giant full to double tuck, flung out a little but hit, hop back

Stanford 49.100
North Carolina 49.100
Utah State 49.100
Michigan 49.075

Congratulations on everyone being the sammeeeeeee. But for Stanford, getting through the bad one over 49 is a result they’ll take. More troubling for Michigan after what should be a good event for them, but they’re not actually trailing by any margin.

Over at Kentucky, Rutgers got a hit Y1.5 from Riley with a little hop forward.

Vandertoolen – VT – Utah St – yfull, hop back. 9.775

Sorrento – UB – Stanford – nice first hs – toe on to maloney to pak, legs together well – rushes 1/2 turn on low – good hs on high – DLO, step back. 9.850

Stippich – BB – UNC – bhs loso loso, hesitation check on landing – switch, little pause before straddle – gainer full, hop back. 9.725

That rotation started alllll kinds of funky for Georgia and Michigan State, but they pulled it together with some stronger ones. Southern Utah did the job on floor to stay close. Interested to see what Michigan State does on beam now without Zsarmani or Cosman. Biro coming in. She has two competition 9.7s this year.

Arizona State Semifinal 1 – Rotation 2
