The first four national championship competitors will be determined today from two meets that, in the beautiful wisdom of NCAA, will overlap for some reason. It’s fine, I didn’t want to see it anyway.

The elimination of Michigan in the regional semifinals has allowed some breathing room for Oklahoma and Alabama to enter as favorites, while Arkansas outscoring Kentucky in the semifinal has tightened that one considerably.

Rotation 1

McCann – VT – Ohio St – nice stick on yfull, some piking chest down. 9.850

Lacoursiere – UB – Alabama – maloney to pak, good form – hits hs on high – van leeuwen, good – bit shy on hs on high – FTDT, holds onto the stick but two separate arm circles to do so. 9.775

Davis – BB – OU – bhs loso, smooth – aerial – beat to split ring jump, under control – 2/1, leg crossing, stuck. Good start. And we have 9.950

Johanson – FX – Penn St – double pike, a little chest forward – 1.5 to 1/2 to straigth jump – switch side to popa, ok, a little tight – double tuck, chest down, controls front foot. 9.800

Washington – VT – Ohio St – yfull, fairly sizeable bounce back and some pike. 9.750

Hudson – UB – Alabama – hits hs – maloney with prettu large leg break, into bail, nice legs together position – solid hs on high – giant full, past vertical, into double tuck, stuck. 9.825

Siegfeldt – BB – OU – bhs loso, smooth series – full turn, little lean – cat leap to aerial, solid – gainer full stuck. 9.925

Kramer – FX – PSU – front 2/1 to front tuck, hit, a little under with a slide back – switch to split leap full to wolf full, around, low front leap on split full – rudi to loso, secure. 9.850

Grimes – VT – Ohio St – yfull, good height, comes in a bit piked with a small hop forward. 9.850

Adams – UB – Alabama – good first hs – maloney to pak, great form – slight back looseness in 1/2 turn on low – nice hs on high – giant full to double tuck, holds the stick. 9.900

Bowers – BB – OU – full turn – bhs loso, solid – switch 1/2, secure – 2/1 legs crossing, holds onto the dismount. 9.950

McElligott – FX – Penn St – double pike, little movement – switcn rhing to switch 1/2 to wolf full, around, a tad low on final wolf full – 1.5 to layout, lower layout but gets it to her feet – double tuck, large rebound. 9.725

Riccardi – VT – Ohio St – yfull, pretty big bounce back, some pike. 9.750

KJ def whispered 199 into a conch shell this morning.

Torrez – BB – OU – wolf jump, yes – side aerial loso series, little lean to the side – full turn – switch to straddle, good – bhs gainer full, holds the landing. 9.950 for her as well.

Waligora – UB – Alabama – good first hs – blind to jaeger to overshoot, good height, feet in jaeger – a bit tight hs on high – DLO, hop back. 9.825

Harris – VT – Ohio St – y1.5, good one, little hop forward and some knee position. 9.875

Levasseur – BB – OU – full turn, smooth – bhs loso, good height, nice landing – switch to straddle 1/4, maybe the slightest adjustment – aerial, nice – bhs gainer full, stuck. 9.975 for her.

Machado – UB – Alabama – pak, yes – van leeuwen, legs together – toe full is past vertical, into double tuck, stuck. 9.875

Herring – FX – Penn St – double Arabian, lunge forward, possible OOB, can’t tell from our angle – switch side 1/2 to straddle, lovely split positions – 1.5 to front lay, controls the step out. 9.800

Smith – BB – OU – bhs loso, small lean correction moving out of it – aerial, smooth – straddle 1/2 to Korbut, nice – full turn – bhs gainer full, stuck.

Still gets 9.975 because it’s not a wobble when it’s Ragan?

Blanco – UB – Alabama – maloney to pak, solid – good hs on low – van leeuwen – solid – FTDT, holds stick, chest a bit down 9.925

So Oklahoma went 49.800 on beam.

After 1
Oklahoma 49.800
Alabama 49.350
Ohio State 49.225
Penn State 49.175

Pretty much as expected, though Ohio State and Penn State will not be mad at how close the margin with Alabama is right now. Oklahoma another 49.800 on beam, a beautiful rotation with only minimal things, but when you’re giving 10s out to Smith for an obvious balance check, it makes all the scores seem like BS.

Piedrahita – VT – Penn St – very nice stick on Omelianchik

Arkansas moves into 2nd place here after 49.450 on bars. Kentucky kind of got away with one there on beam with large breaks from Bunn, Worley, and Magnelli that all still stayed above 9.800.

FINAL
LSU198.250
Arkansas 197.825
Kentucky 197.475
Minnesota 197.400

That Kentucky beam rotation will stick in my mind from this one. Scores were jumping on beam, so the total is going to look solid in retrospect, but they had three big wobbles out of six routines and it stunted what they could do, competed to two big wobbles for Minnesota, and one big dropped wobble for Arkansas.

  1. Please note: the judges have changed to different events from 1st round

  2. I’m Team Ultimate Chaos and will be rooting for all the unseeded teams to advance

    1. Although Oklahoma getting the 199 in a regional final would also be quite the wild turn of events

  3. As an Ohio State fan, I’m just so proud of how this team has competed all year. Harris/Vetter have been rocks this year and the youth of this team makes me hopeful for the future.

I think OU and Bama will advance, but if OSU can pull the upset, I’m buying a ticket to Fort Worth tonight!

    1. Ohio State hit every routine in both regional competitions (I think they did the same last year). Absolutely incredible meet and to do it all in enemy territory where the “home” fans are hoping you lose. Way to go Buckeyes! I honestly think this team can breakthrough to Nationals in one of the next couple of years. As an Oklahoma fan, I hope they get a regional without OU next year.

They have beautiful gymnastics and great floor choreo!

  4. I’m cheering for anyone but OK. I don’t dislike them; I’d just prefer to see someone else win the Final Four.

  5. Ok-so OU is going. They’re through beam-the nervy event, and the rest is insane for them. But I’m rooting for chaos. I want Luisa Blanco through for the AA if Alabama doesn’t make it. I kinda want Ohio State to upset Alabama.

    1. If Bama doesn’t go, I think Gabby Wilson of Michigan gets the AA spot. Blanco didn’t compete AA in the regional semis.

    2. AA qualifiers are based on yesterday. Gabby Wilson will go as long as Oklahoma advances, if not it’ll be Jordan Bowers. Luisa will go on bars if Alabama doesn’t make it

  6. Well, Ragan had a balance check on beam and still gets 10s, then at least two on floor and gets 9.95. I guess all is normal in NCAA judging.

  7. I kinda wish all 6 scores would count in the post-season. I hate that only half of the regular season matters for NQS and that each team gets one “free” mistake per rotation. I’m fine with 5/6 in the regular season, but everything should matter in post-season.

    1. To be fair, just compare it to some of the Ohio State and Penn State vaults . . . Not the same scoring.

    1. What’s the point of your comment? Why be rude?!?! I hope you don’t always live your life this way.

      1. She sounds like someone w/ dentures that are coming loose. It’s annoying. You don’t have to like it, but it’s not rude. It’s just a fact.

      2. As a speech therapist, your comment is rude and completely uncalled for. I have clients who have been on the receiving end of comments like yours. Trust me when I say your words can have a lasting negative impact. I had a client who was mid-50s and remembered a comment made to them when they were 16, and just thinking about it brought them to tears.

Your words matter and there was no need for your comment.

  8. Why even have the competition if you’re just gonna hand OU the win with this stupid high scores?

  9. Ella Hodges closing out with a 9.975 on floor. The two judges that went 9.95 should live with shame and regrets! Hodges deserved that 10 (or at least one in her career — would have happened in a different leo).

  10. Is it Mya H or Raena W at national floor finals for individual wahhh
