Who’s ready to college gymnastics themselves some college gymnastics?

Victoria Nguyen already won the earlier training session today for connecting a fall on her front 2/1 to two log rolls directly into Kaylee Bluffstone.

The flame throwers are a little farther away from the gymnasts walking in now so that they don’t almost give Maile O’Keefe a heart attack anymore.

The teams are allowed to have more gymnasts with them on the floor now at nationals, and it feels like there are roughly 600 more people. Some of these coaches have definitely thrown in fake names for the intros.

Everyone was told they could start the touch, and then told to stop and then told to start the touch again. So it’s going great.

Rotation 1

Paradise- VT – Alabama – pretty large hop forward on y1.5. 9.8125

Sievers UB – Alabama 0 good shap to pak – hits hs on high – FTDT, can’t hold onto stick with step back. 9.825

Draser secure loso but flexed feet – switch to switch 1/2 – 1.5, step forward. 9.825

German with a larger hop forward on her 1.5

Light finishes FX with a small slide back on double pike. 9.7875

Pederson – UB – OU – hits hs on low – maloney too pak, legs together – a little past on 1/2 turn on low – DLO, good stick

Pilgrim – BB – Florida – good candle mount – bhs loso, solid foot position, small lean adjustment – full turn – cat leap, lower amplitude, to aerial, hit – switch to split – sticks gainer full

Horton shows good control on FTDT – opens up nice and early out of double back but has too much time and bounces back

Bunagan VT -0 Alabama – more controlk on y1.5 but also landed shorter with a step to the side – 9.850

Fatta with one short hs on high and a small hop back on DLO, otherwise solid.

Nguyen very smooth on onodi to bhs – switch to split, good split positions – 1.5 dmt, hop forward

Kvamme – VT – Alabama – y1.5, short locked leg landing with step back

Wong – BB – Florida – switch to split leap good – aerial, connects to split jump – bhs into loso, secure landing – full turn, smooth – gainer tuck full super low chest down lean and a step forward. 9.800.-

Gladieux – VT – Alabama – good distance on y1.5, leg separation on the block and a hop forward

Celestine – FX – Missouri – FTDT, little leg separation at the end, chest up well – split leap full to jump full to pike shushnova, some travel, solid splits – double tuck bounce back

Harris solid on bhs loso bhs – straddle 1/4 position is good – 1.5 dmt, good stick. Nice one.

Audrey Davis with step to the side on bars dismount today.

Hudson – VT – Alabama – medium bound forward on y1.5, good position in the air.

Arana – BB – FL – secure loso with some foot flexing – switch to switch 1/2 with a check, a couple smaller but there check hesitations in this one – gainer full step back

Range for Audrey Davis from 9.750 to 9.950.

Little hop forward from Ady Wahl on her y1.5

Moore – FX – Missouri – DLO, controls her step, chest down – tuck jump full – switch 1/2 to popa, around – front through to double tuck, good control again but chest lower.

After 1: Oklahoma 49.400, Florida 49.300, Missouri 49.225, Alabama 49.125

Hierarchy intact after the first rotation. Florida a little shaky on beam again, and then there was that time Leanne almost fell on her dismount and went 9.8, but saved by a strong one from Harris. Missouri keeping it close to Florida but probably needed more on floor.

Hooten – FX – Minnesota – FTDT, good position, chest forward landing – 1.5 to excellent front pike – double tuck, chest up, controls we – switch side, under but looked better, into popa

I’d like to thank the citizenry for causing me to miss every single routine in that rotation because they can’t sit down ever.

Rotation 2

Griffin – VT – Missouri – y1/1, good open, hop back, little pike at the end

Gladieux a bit late on giant full into double tuck, small rebound. 9.775

Davis – BB – OU – bhs loso, secure, some position – aerial, nice – beat to split ring, hit – 2/1, legs crossed, chest lower, step forward

Nguyen front 2/1, leg crossing into nice sissone – back 1.5 to layout, lower amplitude on layout, solid control

Tanskanen – VT – Misspuri, good power on tsuk full step back

Hudson with a leg break on shaposh, a little short on hb handstand – FTDT, does a bit of a Leanne, chest well down on lean and a hop forward

Fatta – BB – OU – bhs loso with a little check – side aerial, hit – hitch kick to switch side, a little crooked, secure – switch to split – gainer full hop back

Tisler – VT – Missouri – good lift on yfull, hop up in place

Pederson is off beam on her side somi. It begins?

Walker has to work hard to pull back a handstand on high –

Horton – VT – Missouri – way short on y1.5 and sits it down

Florida being medium-fine-normal on floor so far is the class of the rotation because the wheels are falling off for everyone else.

Bowers BB – OU – hits korbut – full turn, good – bhs loso, smooth, good foot positions – switch 1/2, secure – 2/1, stuck with some leg crossing

Wong – FX – Florida – DLO, huge bounce back OOB –

Moore hits y1.5 with hop forward

Wells – BB – OU – switch kickover is hit but a wobble lean to save it – switch split jump is hit securely – loso series, another lean correction but stays on – 1.5, holds stick with little lean. A critical stay on for them. She gets a 90 minute hug from KJ. One judge went 9.9 which…

Good dismount stick from Fuller on bars.

Celestine pretty large lunge forward on 1.5

Torrez- BB – OU – wolf jump, hit – side aerial to loso, hit, small waver – gainer full, stuck. Oklahoma survives beam.

Clark – FX – Florida – good high straddle jump – DLO, bounce back, keeps it in bounds – front tuck through to double tuck, chest pretty far down, hops to present.

Greaves catches Church a bit close but works through it, nice stick on FTDT

After 2: Oklahoma 98.750, Florida 98.650, Missouri 98.350, Alabama 98.2875

Theme so far is that Oklahoma and Florida are having…fine competitions, at least they’re able to drop the weak ones, but Alabama and Missouri are making enough mistakes that they’re still falling behind. Feel like beam mistakes are being kept too close to the good hits.

Rotation 3

Pilgrim VT – pretty rough landing on y1.5 with lunge forward, near knee down –

Lacoursiere – BB – Alabama – swings right through vertical on her candle mount to hip support – stag ring, check – aerial, little waver in bhs – full turn, hit – holds onto stick on 1.5

Davis under rotated on front 2/1 to start her floor.

Bui – VT – Florida y1.5 hop forward

Kvamme – BB – Alabama – kickover waver wobble into split jump – bhs loso series, good feet, secure landing – switch to split – 1.5 dmt, hop forward

Nguyen – VT – Florida – large bound forward on y1.5

Sievers – FX – OU – double pike, good position, little rebound – double tuck –

Solid stick on gainer full from Ladanyi on beam.

Moore step back on FTDT on bars.

Ferris wins best supporting actress on a vault for trying to sell that landing but she came in short and couldn’t hold the stick position.

Mueller – FX – OU – front tuck throught to double tuck, some check position, secure –

Hudson leans through aerial to bhs series on beam – hop to the side on 1.5 dmt.

Wong – VT – Florida – ro 1/2 on pike 1/2, pretty large bounce back, not as much trouble as the other events but a pretty large bounce

Kelly sticks double tuck on bars.

Gladieux secure on bhs back pike series, some feet – aerial with an arm wave correction – switch to split –

Fatta hits a solid front 2/1 to stag.

Harris – VT – Florida – under on y1.5, short landing, not much distance, step back

Adams – BB – Alabama – wolf triple is hit – aerial, leg up wobble – bhs loso, secure landing – switch to split, secure landing – gainer full, chest well down, hop forward

Bowers – FX – OU – front 2/1 to front tuck, good pass, stuck landing – double pike, little rebound – split leap to switch 1/2 to wolf full, around well –

Titarsolej – UB – Missouri – toe on to maloney to pak, legs together well – solid 1/2 turn on low – short hs on high – giant full, good finish into double tuck, holds the stick. 9.9375

Torrez – FX – OU – DLO, good height, small leg separation – split leap full to wolf full, around – frot tuck to double tuck, rebound

After 3: Oklahoma 148.275, Missouri 147.800, Florida 147.725, Alabama 147.4875

The big news, a strong bars from Missouri and a rough-burger of a vault rotation for Florida has seen Missouri move just ahead after three.

Good tkatchev from Mundell, hits bail, legs together – DLO, little pike down to hold the stick

Ulrich – FX – Denver – secure landing on DLO, chest down – switch side to popa, good use of DISTRACTION HANDS during popa – clean lay in combination – double pike, chest down, hop

Still an uphill battle for Missouri as Florida goes to what should be their best score, but those vault landings have made things interesting.

Rotation 4

Pederson – VT – OU, step forward on y1.5,

Pilgrim 0 UB – Florida – hits pak – van leeuwen – hop forward FTDT

Wier – BB – Missouri – aerial, small waver wobble – bhs loso hit – split to split 1/2 to beat, a little under on split 1/2 – gainer full, holds stick

Lacoursiere low on her rudi with a kind of staggered landing, tucks her front lay before the front full

Torrez – VT – OU – medium hop forward on 1.5

Blakely – Ub – Florida – rixna to pak is hit, some leg break in pak – double front 1/2 with a staggery landing and two small steps, could really go to town on those steps if they wanted. They didn’t want to 9.8625.

Celestine – BB – Missouri – bhs through to side aerial combo is secure – punch front, solid – split to split 3/4 is hit – cat leap to gainer full, can’t hold stick with step back. 9.8125

Wells – VT – OU – a little short on her y1.5 with step back

Jackson – BB – Missouri – aerial, hit, keeps moving to bhs – step back on gainer pike

Wong finds her gymnastics when she needs to with a stuck DLO.

Sears low on DLO but pulls it out –

Fatta also shorter on y1.5 with a step back

Harris – UB – Florida – hits ray – solid hs on high legs together on bail – toe on, bp, to DLO, pike, lower landing, hop forward

Mueller – VT – OU – saved it despite not having her usual amplitude, step to the side

Stuck gainer full for Addison Lawrence gets her to 9.9125

Kelly – BB – Missouri – aerial into bhs, smoothly done – switch to split is good – side aerial, feet but solid again – wolf wavers on the final turn but pulls it around – stuck dismount, rival stuck dismounts with her and Arana on bars.

Bowers – VT – OU – y1.5 solid, smaller step forward than most

Missouri down on Florida now wit one to go. Needs Hu magic.

Hu – BB – Missouri – y spin, hit – aerial to aerial, hit split jump to split 3/4, under control – gainer pike, good stick. Standing O from our section for that one.

McCusker – UB – Maloney to pak good feet – vn leeuwen, hice – hits hs on high – stalder to double tuck, bounce back.

9.9875 for Hu! That should do it!

9.8675 for McCusker will keep Florida below Missouri as Oklahoma and Missouri will advance.

OOOOOOOH. Really thought Missouri had too many bounces on floor and lunges on vault in the first half of this one, but they tightened it up at the end as Florida had that vault rotation.

Nice rudi to straddle jump from Smith on floor to finish out this session, very clean one. Big 9.9375 for her.

FINAL: Oklahoma 197.550, Misspuri 197.300, Florida 197.200, Alabama 196.825

Bowers leads the AA with 39.7125, Ferris leads vault with 9.900 because very few could really vault today, but you feel like that won’t hold up. Bowers, Titarsolej, Wong, and Arana all went 9.9375 on bars. Hu’s 9.9875 leads on beam. Bowers and Torrez 9.950 on floor to lead.

Semifinal 2

Lineup World News: UCLA has McGowan in on only bars right now. She’s been here doing her three events in training. She was balking on vault yesterday at podium but was hitting the Y1.5 in the warmup today. Meanwhile, Webster-Longin had a super scary lock-legged y1.5 right after that but seems fine for magical gymnast reasons.

Utah also doesn’t have McCallum in the floor lineup right now. She’s in the other three events.

Looking back at the scores, my new favorite range is the 9.450 to 9.900 for Ulrich’s vault where she almost hit her head.

Our current theory is that the vault must be uphill based on everything that happened in that first semifinal and is continuing in the warmup now.

Lineup switch—TWIST McClain is into the LSU floor lineup for Coen. McGowan has also been added into UCLA’s floor.

Apparently we’re spotlighting literacy. Let’s see how many gymnasts in competition today can spell Yurchenko.

And now McCallum is into Utah’s floor lineup, so we fixed it all. Padurariu continues to be the pronunciation waterloo for literally everyone.

Rotation 1

Tucker – VT – MSU – short landing on y1.5 but saves it, step back. 9.825

Zeiss sticks FTDT to open things.

Morgan BB – Utah – bhs bhs loso, some soft knees, secure landing – switch 1/2 with a wobble – front gainer full with step. 9.750

Rosen hits double tuck, bit of slide back on double pike – 1.5 to layout, knees in 1.5, under control on layout.

Doyle VT – MSU – solid stick on y1.5, some knees and stagger

Hop back from Cowan on DLO. Obstructed view for that one too but it was Tiana, so we’ll allow it.

McGowan – FX – UCLA – FTDT, a bit short with a step present – back 1.5 to front full, some knees, under control

Smith holds onto stick on gainer pike for Utah.

Zsarmasni – VT – MSU – solid position on 1.5 in the air, hop forward

Chio – UB – LSU – maloney with a bit of leg separation to hit bail – gets khorkina – FTDT, chest down, step back

McCallum – BB – Utah – pulls around wolf but hits beam with foot bringing it around – bhs loso series wobble and flexed feet – gainer tuck full, off line, stuck. 9.8125 and one went 9.9

Solid control on double pike from Malabuyo, good positions on leaps – complete wolf – leg separation on lay in combination

Nikki Smith very short y1.5, deep squat and step back

Neff – BB – Utah – side aerial to bhs is secure – side aerial just keeps moving to shushunova – gainer full, good distance, stuck

Finnegan chest down on dismount with step forward

Campbell – FX – UCLA – ftdt, good control, leg position looked solid from this angle – slide forward on middle pass, legs apart in layout – double tuck, hit

Lunge forward y1.5 from Stephen

Winger off on her beam series again, tries to do bhs out of it but way short and falls this time.

McClain – UB – LSU – supppper close on her church – toe on to pak, hit – nice 1/2 turn on low – hits hs on high – FTDT, little rebound. Two 9.950s for that Church.

Kellerman – VT – MSU – excellent stick on hs pike 1/2. That warrants being our vault leader right now. 9.950

Moors – FX – UCLA- front 2/1 to front tuck is solid – switch to switch 1/2 to wolf full, good completion – rudi, controls front foot. 9.9625 is our floor leader

Padurariu – BB – Utah – aerial to bhs, hit – split to sheep is hit – gainer pike with a hop

Bryant step back on double front 1/2 out

Chiles – FX – UCLA – DLO, bounce back – split leap full to wolf full is around – front through to double tuck, short landing, lunge forward. 9.900 even though you had to take .150 for the last pass landing

Roberson – BB – Arkansas – switch to back tuck is hit – side aerial to loso, feet, secure –

Carey – UB – Or St – hits pak, van leeuwen, legs together – solid hs on high – DLO, some knee form, looked like a little landing movement from here

Lauzon – FX – Cal – front 2/1 to front tuck, good control – switch ring to switch 1/2, good positions – back 1.5 to front full under control

After 1: UCLA 49.525, MSU 49.3875, LSU 49.325, Utah 49.2125

Utah shaky on beam and LSU steppy on bars puts them back after one. But did MSU do enough on what needed to be their biggest asset event?

Rotation 2

Lee – VT – UCLA – yfull, clean, holds onto landing. chest forward

ZGood piked jaeger and pak from Doyle on bars, one short hs – giant full, solid finish into high double tuck, lean forward to hold landing

Ballard – BB – LSU – bhs loso series, holds onto it – sissone to switch 1/2, under – kickover, little waver – 2/1, legs crossed, stuck

Glynn finishes fx with 1.5 to fairly low layout, pulls it out

Jenkins – VT – UCLA – a bit locked on landing, lunge rebound forward

Tucker good legs together on bars for MSU – shorter cast on high – giant full to double tuck, shuffle with both feet

Zirbes – FX – Utah – sticks front 2/1, some knees – switch 1/2 to popa, hit –

Coen very deep on beam dismount position with step forward

Moors – VT – UCLA – better control on hs pike 1/2 landing than warmup, a little jarred and a step back

Stephen solid on the maloney to bail – FTDT, good height, stuck

Chio – BB – LSU – bhs mount is strong – switch to split, good control – aerial to split, good – pretty big arm wave wobble on fullturn – stuck dismount

Webster-Longin vaults and did EXACTLY what she did in the warmup and this time she doesn’t escape from it without injury.

Nice stuck DLO from Zsarmani on bars.

McClain – BB – LSU – switch to switch 1/2, good position, some feet from this angle – aerial to bhs, comfortable – full turn, smooth – wolf, good – side aerial, check – gainer full, stuck

Gilstrap finishes floor with front full under control

Good high gienger from Harkness, bail, solied vertical, DLO, large lunge backward

Smith – FX – Utah – front 2/1 to front tuck, had enough height but kind of came in short on landing –

Campbell sticks yfull, good distance, chest a little forward

Bryant – BB – LSU – aerial to bhs is comfortable – switch to straddle 1/4, a little tight – front with a wobble lean correction – slide back on rudi dismount

Kellerman hits jaeger on bars, legs together on bail – a bit tight on final cast hs – DLO, sticks

Chiles – VT – UCLA – ro 1/2 on tuck 1/2, bounce to the side on landing, tucking on the vault. Range of 9.750 to 9.950, they’re supposed to take a LOT for her tucking in pre flight but most don’t, which is why the descrepancy.

McCallum – FX – Utah – ftdt, bounce back – front tuck to double tuck tuck, some feet

Finnegan with a check on series, was off line, pulls it back. And now she’s off.

maddie Jones good form on pak, catches a bit close- DLO, bounce back

And it’s 9.950 for McCallum as Utah uses floor to get back into it.

Roberson – FX – Arkansas – DLO, controls front foot – switch side 1/2 to popa, little hoppy – front loso to double tuck, chest down, covers with slide forward

Carey – BB – Oregon St – full turn – aerial to bhs loso is smoothly connected – switch to split, good – gainer full

After 2: Michigan State 98.8375, Utah 98.775, UCLA 98.7625, LSU 98.650

So LSU is in last. But they’re heading to the Floor’s Fine Gifts shop next.

Rotation 3

Gilstrap in on vault for Zirbes who was sitting all her 1.5s in the warmup. Hit’s yfull wuth bounce back

Schulte – BB – MSU – switch to switch 1/2 with wobble – bhs loso, hit, little waver moving out of it – gainer full, stuck at a bit of an angle

McClain FX – LSU – DLO, chest down, solid landing – switch ring and switch 1/2 are good – back 1.5 to front full is low with some soft knees, step to the side

McCallum finds her vault landing after having issues in the touch – sticks, some knees and direction. And we have 9.950

McGowan hits tkatchev to overshoot – DLO, bounce back

Duplissis – BB – MSU – triple series hit, another small lean after hitting – beat to split jump 3/4, secure – 1.5 dmt, good stick

Neff VT – high y1.5, step forward

Rosen hits maloney to pak on bars – short hs on high DLO, good stick

Misenheimer – BB – MSU – aerial to split is solid – bhs loso, lots of leg form there but secure – switch to split, good – 1.5 dmt, good stick

Glynn – VT – Utah – y1.5, good distance, shuffle forward and doesn’t hold finish position

Malabuyo 0 UB – UCLA – maloey to pak, leg break on pak – good position on 1/2 turn on low – FTDT is lower today with a hop forward

Harkness hits loso serie on beam with some feet – side aerial, little lean – side aerial to tuck 1.5 hop back

Drayton – FX – LSU – DLO, good control – chest down on double tuck but good control

Smith VT – Utah – medium hop forward on Omelianchik

Smith – BB – MSU – bhs to a high loso, big wobble, turn to the side chest down – beat to straddle jump 1/2. finishes turn on the beam -double tuck, holds the stick, chest down – 9.8125 very high for that eobble

Finnegan hits double arabian to stag – solid completion on switch full – 2.5 to front tuck, hit

Johnson hits y1.5 for Utah with hop to the side and some knees

Chiles gets the amplitude on her DLO on bars today, good landing.

Stephen with a leg up wobble on aerial to two feet – holds onto stick on her double full, balance correction

Bryant hits double front – a little under rotated on switch full – front lay to rudi, some leg separation on front lay

Roberson – VT – ro 1/2 on layout 1/2, good height, step back

Williams – UB – Cal – good pak – hits hs on low – toe on to van leeuwern, nice leg position – dismount gets wild – did she hit her foot or something, tucks it

Magnelli secure on bhs loso loso, some feet – aerial, holds it – full turn – gainer pike, good stick

Carey – FX – Oregon St – double double tuck, hit, chest down – front lay to front full, some knee – switch 1/2 to popa – double tuck, little rebound

After 3: UCLA 148.1875, LSU 148.150, Utah 148.1125, Michigan State 148.000

Two tenths in it.

LSU moves up to second after floor, but enough to withstand an iffy vault? Not necessarily. Michigan State drops to last after a shaky beam, that could have been lower too, but gets to floor now. UCLA has to handle beam. It’s all happening.

Rotation 4

Johnson – VT – LSU – good pop on yfull, bounce back. 9.8375

Smith – UB – Utah leg together well on pak – toe pike 1/2, some lack of amplitude but good stick

Lee – BB – UCLA – aerial, check, arm wave correction before split jump – bhs loso, hit – switch to straddle is good – gainer full, holds onto stick with chest down. Big SV discrepancy, but to me she broke her aerial to split

Harkness uncontrolled lunge on ftdt – double tuck chest down with step

Zeiss – VT – LSU – lunge forward on y1.5, knees. 9.800

Glynn – UB – Utah – maloney, some leg separation into bail, hit – stalder to double tuck, chest forward, hop

Rosen hits beat to onodi, hop back on 1.5

Tucker – FX – MSU – nice rudi to loso – switch 1/2 to popa, good – front 2/1 final pass, shows control

Finnegan – VT – LSU – y1.5, good distance,some knee, step forward. 9.850

Neff with a good gienger to overshoot combo – looked like she pinged her DLO 1/1 but fine because she stuck

Chiles – BB – UCLA – bhs loso, hit – cat leap to switch side, big arm wave correction – side aerial, check –

Ortiz – FX – MSU – ftdt, bounce back OOB – front tuck throughh to double tuck, slide back

Drayton – VT – LSU – better control on her y1.5 but did have an extra small step forward after an initial adjustment, so could get her there. And some do 9.8125

Morgan good on the bhardwaj – toe on stalder tuck 1/2, holds ther stick. Good one.

Campbell – bhs back pike with a check – split leap to switch 1/2 –

Stephen 0 FX – MSU – front through to rudi, secure, a little low – switch 1/2 to wolf full – loso to knee is nice

Chio – VT – LSU – could have saved LSU’s season there with a nice stick

But also Campbell just got some 9.950s on beam. 9.975 for Chio. 9.9125 for Campbell.

Nice feet on jaeger from Zirbes – FTDT a bit too deep with an adjustment back.

Nice switch to split to beat from Alipio on beam – gainer tuck full is off direction but stuck

Bryant – VT – LSU – hs pike 1/2 bounce back. 9.900. Not enough at this point.

Smith – FX – MSU – FTDT, chest down, good secure landing – switch side 1/2 to straddle – double tuck.

And it’s 9.950 for Alipio.

Malabuyo – BB – UCLA – just needs to stay on basically – bhs loso, nice – aerial to beat to korbut is good – hits split ring jump – and a stuck dismount.

McCallum with a bonus bars for Utah , sticks FTDT.

Carey – VT – Or St – pretty big hop forward on y1.5, shouldn’t pass Bowers with that landing.

9.975 for Malabuyo confirms Utah and UCLA as the advancers, eliminating LSU.

Schulte front tuck through to double tuck with a bounce back to finish.

Lauzon’s beam finishes things out there, bhs bhs loso right on – switch to split, good – 2/1, good stick. 9.950

Brose – FX – Kentucky – double pike, nice, good control – front full to front lay, good layout position – front 2/1, shows good control, pretty routine. 9.900

FINAL: Utah 197.7625, UCLA 197.7375, LSU 197.525, MSU 197.3625

LSU didn’t even really have a weak meet and would have advanced from the other semifinal, but they were steppy on bars and a little wobbly on beam and that was enough as Utah and UCLA took advantage of end of meet wheeeees.

Individually, Bowers takes the AA title with 39.7125, Chio wins vault with 9.975, Chiles wins bars with 9.975, Hu wins beam with 9.9875, and Moors wins floor with 9.9625.

“We have a six-way tie for third place.” Aka my nightmare.
