About
The Deltchev is a rare but refreshing change of pace to the stream of uneven bars releases we typically see. For some reason, it is often confused with the Gienger, presumably because they both begin facing outward and catch inward and because the code of points couldn’t even be bothered to differentiate them into their own boxes, but they are quite different elements. The Deltchev is a 1/2 turn into a forward salto in straddled position, while the Gienger is a backward salto in piked or laid out position with a 1/2 turn during the salto.

Also, IT WAS A DELTCHEV. If you’ve found your way to this page because you’ve seen people in the internet writing, “IT WAS A DELTCHEV,” here’s why. Several years ago, at the International Gymnastics Challenge (a thing for a second), a Deltchev was confused for a Gienger, and drama ensued, leading Nastia Liukin to run up to Svetlana Boginskaya, shout, “IT WAS A DELTCHEV” with strict arm emphasis, and then flick her hair Nastiaishly. She is a hero. This moment instantly established itself as the national bird of the gymternet, and to this day, it is considered not acceptable to see a Deltchev performed without an accompanied shout of IT WAS A DELTCHEV.
