About
For a somewhat new skill, the Stalder Shaposhnikova with 1/2 turn has the odd condition of being named after nobody. Beginning in the latter half of the 2009-2012 quadrennium, the skill began to be performed by a solid 20 million people nearly simultaneously. Yet, by that time, it already existed in the code of points and had been given a value. Subsequent gymnasts performing the skill therefore couldn’t get it named after themselves because it was already in the code.

And yet, Stalder Shaposhnikova 1/2 is super long and annoying to say, so you will hear this referred to as a Chow 1/2 for the sake of ease, though that is an unofficial designation and kind of a misnomer. But everyone’s kind of fine with it because it’s just so much easier to say.

In 2013, the Women’s Technical Committee recognized that Shaposh skills with a 1/2 turn are like, kind of, um, harder than Shaposh skills without a half turn and decided to start differentiating them by giving the Shaposh 1/2s an E value as opposed to D for the regular Shaposh elements.
