About
Beginning around 2009 with the increased valuing of release elements (as opposed to pirouettes) in bonus connections, women’s gymnastics experienced a run on the bank for new Tkatchev variations to perform for F value and connect into other releases to rack up that D-score.

Becky Downie was among the early adopters of this trend, getting this skill named after herself at the 2010 World Championship. It has since been picked up by several other bars daredevils since, at which point Downie stopped performing because it was getting too commercial. The indie darling of gymnastics.
