Straddled Jaeger 1/2

Li Ya (CHN)
Bernd Jaeger (GDR) (Man)
The Jaeger 1/2 had a bit of a heyday in China in the latter portion of the 00s, with Li Ya getting it named after herself and He Kexin famously performing it directly in combination to a regular Jaeger between the bars in her 2008 Olympic routine. The ability to do what He did is really the only way the skill makes sense in current routine construction because otherwise you’re just hanging there.
While the skill is named after Li Ya, that’s one of those quirks of naming because this skill had been finding its way into routines here and there for many years before that, just never at a naming-eligible competition, so Li Ya’s performance of the skill was far from the birth of the Jaeger 1/2.
