Ah, my beloved Valdez. It’s just that little bit of variation that takes a mundane skill like a back walkover and makes it interesting.

I was unclear as to the naming origin of this skill, but the latest research (and by research I mean texts I get sent), is that Gymnast Magazine had a profile in 1940 on a Mr. Valdez, who is shown performing a Valdez in a speedo on a metal beam at Muscle Beach. So let’s go with that.
