The UCLA meet (on Wednesday) is just live streamed? You don’t need PAC-12 Network to watch it?
You do not need Pac12Network for this (rare) @UCLA stream.
Any predictions on who might do commentary for the BYU@UCLA meet today?
Janay Honest is my guess
I want to do it:
UCLA doesn’t care about competing or training this season. They care about being on Instagram & think a scholarship is a Lifetime Achievement Award. Getting a full ride & not really competing or improving is the goal of most of the team. Also E passes on FX are kinda banned.
It seems to be all about getting buzz behind their floor performances and not necessarily about the gymnastics . The problem is, if the athletes are sloppy or whatever, it doesn’t impact the scores. Judges are judging based on whether the last video of the floor routine went viral. I will say, UCLA is doing better than Cal but not sure what the difference in training restrictions has been. That and UCLA has a giant roster.
As a fan of both, I don’t really think UCLA is doing significantly better than Cal. Cal just isn’t getting the benefit of the doubt as much.
wow is this a bad take
It’s the opinion of everyone who isn’t a UCLA homer, and probably even the opinion of some UCLA fans. I know I’d be mad if my team spent so much time making videos for social media and treating meets like a giant party, cheering like crazy when gymnasts have vaults with giant hops or routines with major balks. I understand losing your amazing senior class and having restrictions from Covid means lower scores, but the team shows a lack of discipline and seriousness that a perennial top team should have, and it’s showing in their gymnastics.
Not to mention UCLA’s official Twitter account tweeted a video of part of Nia’s routine on Wednesday (not the parts of her routine that have obvious deductions) then said something about one judge giving it a 10 and the other giving it a 9.85 with a ¯\_(ツ)_/¯, suggesting the lower, more accurate score is ridiculous. In a sport where overscoring is a huge problem and top teams are getting all kinds of uniform bonuses, being one of those top teams and complaining about accurate scoring is a terrible look. I would be embarrassed to be associated with that.
smh what a terrible take
Facts. NCAA gymnastics shouldn’t be summer camp. It’s not about beach photoshoots. They are getting a free education at a top public university. Maybe they should take gymnastics seriously. Or are they too busy sharing their feelings in group yoga.
jealousy isn’t a cute look
UCLA, like much of the non-Utah Pac-12, has dealt with longer training delays than most of the SEC and several weeks off right before the start of the season. And, they had FOUR expected freshmen who were expected to contribute skip the season to train for the Olympics.
You don’t just make up for those two shortfalls by working harder in a shorter period of time – that’s how you get hurt, not better. Enjoying yourself and working hard aren’t mutually exclusive.
You keep posting the same thing over and over and over and over and over. It’s kinda tired at this point.
You hate UCLA.
Got it.
They have the same number of E passes as Oklahoma, last year Utah only had one, Florida only has 3 too I think. Criticize as you wish to but at least be accurate.
UCLA’s schedule this week looks exhausting. Meet today, then traveling to Washington on Sunday. If bussing it, that’s a looooong drive.
I thought only the peasant teams took the bus?
I think they’ve been taking a bus to avoid to flying.
Chris Waller said they will fly to Washington and also their top gymnasts will rest a few events, so we may see both Saras in the bars lineup, Sara U and Sakti on floor and Kooyman on beam. So they can have everyone at full strengh when they meet Utah
If you want to see college gymnastics continue to grow then you might want to give UCLA a break. No gymnastics program in the country does a better job of marketing their team (and the sport). At last year’s Los Angeles Area Emmy Awards in the Live Sports category a Bruins gymnastics meet beat out the Dodgers, Angels, Lakers and Kings for the trophy. And that’s the second time in the last four years a PAC-12 UCLA based telecast has won over such distinguished competition.
