The Super 16 is back at it today with two more quad sessions—and hopefully more just 100% confusion from Jess and DD as to what event we’re watching or who any of the gymnasts except Raena Worley are. Seeing all the routines is honestly overrated compared to seeing DD Breaux squint in confusion and then yell BARS IS STARTING as we cut to floor.

In terms of Oregon State lineups for this first session, Jade Carey is on UB/BB, and Sage Thompson is on VT/UB/FX and in exhibition on beam.

Jess is bringing it today with the shirt. Suck on that, Nastia. Jordan Chiles is here to keep up the chaos and, I guess fulfill her community service requirement at the nursing home.

Rotation 1

Briones – VT – Oregon St – lands short on her yfull, high but not too much distance, chest down and a lunge forward. 9.675

Kennedi McClain hits kickover front to bhs on beam for SUU, straddle jump to straddle 1/4, wobble – cat leap to kickover piked, solid – full turn, leg up correction – gainer full, small movement

Jencks on bars for Minnesota, good height on DLO, step back. 9.750

Kirkham for BYU on floor, finishes with good height on double pike, slide back.

Randolph BB – SUU – bhs whip-pike series is hit – kickover to beat jump, secure – good height on 1.5 dismount, stuck. 9.775

Garcia – VT – Oregon St – steps up the yfulls with a solid landing, just a bit soft but absorbs it well. 9.775

Matern – FX – BYU – punch front 2/1, some leg separation – back 1.5 to layout, slide forward – switch ring to wolf hop full, around – rudi, fairly low, just a little rebound. 9.700

Gonzales hits her ro full on back pike, but looked like a couple steps on landing. 9.775

Sirjord sticks a giant full to double tuck on bars. 9.875

We have our first moment of total confusion as DD just announces “where are we?” We can’t help you with that.

Schwartze – BB – SUU – bhs loso, secure, chest a bit down – beat jump to standing loso, good height on beat, arm wave correction on loso landing – split to sheep, not enough closure on that sheep jump, probably no-credit in a non-NCAA context – gainer full, stuck. 9.850, so no one cares about the sheep jump

Lyden – UB – Minnesota – maloney to bail, good feet, just a bit of angle – short hs on high – DLO, shy of rotation, lunge forward. 9.825

Sage Thompson puts up a solid Yfull in her vault debut for Oregon State, following 9.850 for Esposito’s debut which we didn’t see.

Oregon State 48.950 vault with two 9.850s to finish.

Coutu – BB – SUU – bhs loso, secure, some closed position – split jump to sheep, a bit more closure but still some hip angle, step – cat leap to side aerial, good extension, little turn to the side – gainer full, medium bounce back. 9.750

Margraf – FX – BYU – front 2/1 is big but a huge lunge forward and a step OOB – punch rudi, a bit more control, bounce back – switch ring to switch 1/2 to wolf full – back 1.5 to front lay – 9.500

Hooten – UB – Minnesota – small arch in first hs – big piked jaeger to overshoot, excellent – FTDT, near stick, step back. 9.875, so someone didn’t deduct for the arch.

Benson – FX – BYU – high double tuck, little bounce out – switch 1/2 to popa – front lay to front full, a little under on the front full – double pike, same as the tuck, hit, little rebound. 9.775

Horak with a near-fall on dismount in exhibition for Minnesota on bars.

After 1:
Minnesota 49.275
Oregon State 48.950
Southern Utah 48.950
BYU 48.650

DD can’t stop talking about this brand-new split-screen technology. The future is now. Asking Jordan about beam lineup strategy. Her mouth said, “[Answer]” and her face said “[What Lady, I don’t know I’m not a coach]”

Strong start for Minnesota on bars. The beam test is next. As well as the bars test for Oregon State, although with Thompson and DeVries coming in this year, that shouldn’t really be a weakness this season, theoretically.

Rotation 2

Koch – BB – Minnesota – hits full turn – bhs loso, hit, some soft knee in the bhs – beat to split 3/4, pulls it around – kickover to scalem pretty smooth – check on chreography at the end of the beam – 1.5 dismount, step forward. 9.800

Briones – UB – Oregon St – toe on to maloney, hit into a clean pak – 1/2 turn on low, solid vertical – DLO, bounce back. 9.900

Fernandez – FX – SUU – double tuck, good position, step back, didn’t step OOB but the flag went up and DD is convinced she did

Pearl – BB – Minnesota – bhs loso, secure – switch to straddle 1/4, nice height – aerial, keeps arms moving through small hesitation into beat jump – bhs gainer full, step back. 9.775

DeVries has some body position deductions in her maloney to pak but a nice high DLO, small .05 movement on landing. And gets 9.900

Some solid distance on the yfulls for BYU, but fairly significant bounces back.

McMillan – UB – Oregon St – toe on to maloney to bail, nice toe point, good verticals – short cast hs on high – DLO, just a little pike, small movement. Cleaner than DeVries but didn’t leave themselves any room to reward that.

But they found it for 9.950 despite a non-stick and a short cast hs.

Benson – VT – BYU – holds onto the landing on her yfull, a bit of knees

Schwartze – FX – SUU – front 2/1, slide forward – wolf full to wolf full, under and some travel on the second wolf full – rudi, pulls out a loso

Nice amplitude on pike jump to straddle 3/4 on beam for Horak for Minnesota, arm wave on gainer full to try to hold onto landing, ends up with a step.

Thompson on bars for Oregon State, small hop back on DLO. 9.900

I’m glad Jess is acknowledging the crazy scoring on bars.

Moraw – BB – Minnesota – full turn, hit, a big tentative on landing – bhs loso, arm wave – side aerial, secure – straddle jump to straddle 3/4, nice split positions – high gainer full dismount, small movement.

Big DLO from Niya Randolph on floor for SUU.

Carey – UB – Oregon St – hits firs ths – maloney to bhardwaj, completes well – van leeuwen, small leg break – FTDT, little lean.

9.975, one judge goes 10, which you just can’t when we can see the leg separation on the van leeuwen even from the side, but they’ve been setting themselves up to do that.

Oregon State 49.625 on bars. What are they going to do with tonight’s teams now?

Rowray – BB – Minnesota – lovely loso series – switch to straddle jump 1/2, good split position – kickover, holds it, little lean forward – switch side, excellent – full turn, good – gainer front full, stuck. That’s the beam we’ve been expecting to see from her as a college gymnast. Excellent.

And we’re jumping the scores now. Rowray with 9.975 on beam.

Minnesota goes 49.350 on beam to keep up a slight lead on Oregon State.

Meanwhile 48.725 for SUU on floor, 49.125 for BYU on vault.

After 2
Minnesota 98.625
Oregon State 98.575
Southern Utah 97.850
BYU 97.775

You know you’ve gone round the bend when you’re relying on the Georgia home meet that’s starting to make you feel better about the scores.

Cashman starts Georgia on vault with a hit yfull, bounce back. 9.800

Adomaites – UB – NC St – maloney, good legs together, connected to pak, some ankle crossing in the 1/2 turn on low – stalder to double tuck, nearly holds stick but doesn’t show the finish position. 9.725

LaClair – VT – Gerogia – good height on her yfull, bounce back as well. 9.750

Kevin tells us De Jong got injured in warmups. NOT GREAT.

Childs – UB – NC State – hits piked jaeger to overshoot, lots of pike in the overshoot but catches – good hs on high bar – giant full to double tuck, hop back. 9.800

Battle – VT – Georgia – big amplitude on y1.5, hop forward. Good. 9.800

Hall – UB – NC State – maloney to bail, hit, small leg break on bail – giant full, small leg separation, connected to a stuck double tuck. Good.

Back to the Super 16, Esposito opens Oregon State with a hit 2/1 dismount on beam, small hop. 9.825

Finnegan – VT – Georgia – also brings out her y1.5 with a small hop forward. 9.850

Oregon State has a fall from Buckner on her loso series in the second spot on beam. Solid side aerial after that.

Wahl – VT – Georgia – she also shows her y1.5, but a larger bounce forward, a .20 bounce. 9.775

And Georgia is putting up just 5 on vault, goes 48.975.

Pearl up 2nd on floor for Minnesota – back 1.5 to front lay, some leg separation in 1.5, good amplitude on layout – switch side to popa, good height, comes up a little short on popa landing position – double pike, high, bounce back.

Weaver for Oregon State has to grab the beam on her opening wolf turn, so we’ll see what they do with that – split positions are nice – aerial, some knee, arm wave correction – 1.5 dismount, good hold on the stick.

Ortega for NC State falls on her Gienger on bars. They have 4 hits before her, but now Shepard needs a score to get them ahead of Georgia after 1.

Johnson – FX – Minnesota – wolf jump 1.5, pretty much around – front full to front 1/2, a little low on second element but secure – switch side to popa – double tuck, big bounce back.

Shepard from NC State had a super weird one, looked fine going into the pak but kicked her coach in mid-air, causing a big form break. Feel like that one was on the coach.

Weaver got a 9.325 on beam for Oregon State, which will have to count after the Buckner fall – Young came up in the 4th spot with an important hit, some hesitations and tentative moments but nothing big. 9.825

Shepard got a 9.600 on that bars for NC State which will have to count for 48.725. (Also Reid had a gigantic dismount in exhibition.)

Alvarado holds onto the landing on her DLO 1/1 bars dismount for BYU, a bit of knees at the end but a stick

Gonzales – BB – Oregon St – aerial, keeps arms moving into back tuck – side aerial, solid – cat leap to switch 1/2, slightly under split -front gainer full off the end, step back. 9.850

Nice control on double pike landing for Gerdes to finish floor for Minnesota. 9.875 is one of the bigger floor scores we’ve seen.

Carey – BB – Oregon St – full turn, hit – bhs loso, small slide back with front foot – switch, small hesitation into switch 1/2, pretty solid – aerial, hit – gainer full, little rebound. Solid. 9.900

Hooten – FX – Minnesota – FTDT, big, small bounce back – switch side, overturns a little into popa – front full to huge front pike, great stick – double tuck, bounce back. 9.875

It’s 49.175 for Minnesota on floor, 48.725 for Oregon State on beam as Minnesota opens up a 5 tenth lead.

Thompson falls on beam in exhibition for Oregon State, under on a wolf jump 3/4 attempt and couldn’t hold onto it.

After 3
Minnesota 147.800
Oregon State 147.300
BYU 147.300
Southern Utah 146.725

BYU got the bars present in that third rotation to get up into a tie with Oregon State. South Utah

Second rotation underway in Georgia, Cashman opens for them on bars with a fall on her tkatchev. Hits it the second time around – catch on cast hs but pulls it back – hits bail – DLO, rises onto toes with an arm wave.

Checked back in on the Super 16 meet to see Jordan Chiles dying of the plague apparently.

Fitzgerald gets a 9.750 for Georgia on abrs in the second spot. Wahl up 3rd – maloney to pak is hit – late cast 1/2 on low – short hs on high – DLO holds onto landing with a lean. 9.800

Solid handspring pike 1/2 for Knight from NC State, fairly big bounce to the side, but chest nicely up

Finnegan was high but kind of close on her Ray, got through out – pak, large leg break – solid 1/2 turn on low – FTDT, hop back. 9.775

Shepard with a solid yfull for NC State, small slide back, bit of direction and bit of pike.

Nguyen 2nd on vault for Minnesota hits a yfull, some pike, bounce back

Scott – UB – Georgia – big ray to pak – good job to swing out of pak after catching slightly close – can leeuwen, hit – rushing a little in final cast hs – good DLO, small movement, nice one overall. 9.875

Briones started floor for Oregon State with 9.800, Esposito second up with a big lunge forward on front 2/1 – also a fairly big lunge back on double pike

Smith – UB – Georgia – good first hs on low – maloney to bail, lovely, perfect – hits cast hs on high – FTDT, stuck. Wonderful. Baby Nastia indeed.

9.975 in for Smith, saving Georgia bars for a 49.175, dropping the fall from Cashman. Georgia 98.150, NC State 97.750

Back at the Super 16, Margraf is up on beam for BYU – hits kickover, small hesitation into back tuck combination – cat leap to aerial, some knee position, hit – switch, good back leg but a little shoulder drop before her split jump, which could jeopardize the series – punch front full, holds onto the landing, small movement.

Gerdes does her Y1.5 for Minnesota in the 5th spot on vault, but a fairly short landing with a lunge back. 9.775

Thompson – FX – Oregon St – back 1.5 to front lay, not the highest lay but around – split leap full to wolf jump full – double pike, a bit deep in the knees, controls the landing – 9.850

Hooten gives Minnesota the Y1.5 that they needed, big distance, medium hop forward.

9.875 for Hooten takes Minnesota to 49.050 on vault and a 196.850 total, matching Denver’s result from the first session yesterday.

Rollins – BB – BYU – switch to straddle 1/4 – aerial, a little low, lean correction – bhs loso, big break, turn to the side and a leg up correction –

Southern Utah gets to enjoy the bars presents in the final rotation for a 49.300 there and a 196.025 total.

9.575 for Rollins puts BYU on 48.450 on beam and a 195.750 to drop behind Southern Utah.

Young finishes floor for Oregon State with 9.825 to take them to 49.225 there, which is a big floor total for this meet. 196.525 final for them.

FINAL:
Minnesota 196.850
Oregon State 196.525
Southern Utah 196.025
BYU 195.750

In Georgia, Wahl started them off on beam with 9.775. Battle is up 2nd, hit full turn – split jump 1/2, arm correction – swtich to split, solid split positions – kicover, very solid, connects to beat jump – bhs loso, hit, knees on loso – bhs gainer full, holds onto it. Good one. 9.850

Hall – FX – NC State – following an opening 9.600 for Ortega – double tuck, very good, secure landing, controlled step – switch 1/2, under split, connects to wolf full – rudi, slightly under rotated with a lunge back – L turn 1.5ish to wolf jump full – back 1.5 to layout. 9.700

Fitzgerald – BB – Georgia – bhs loso, hit, soft knees in bhs – full turn – beat to switch side, hit – side aerial 2 foot, secure – 1.5 dismount, step forward. 9.850.

Zultevicz – FX – NC State – back 2.5 to front tuck, good control, some foot flexing – split leap full to wolf jump full, short of horizontal split on both elements – double tuck, big cowboy but finds the secure landing. 9.750

Turner – BB – Georgia – full turn, hit – bhs loso loso, good, secure landing, some feet flexing – switch to split, hit – 1.5 dismount, some leg crossing, small hop forward. 9.875

Knight – FX – NC State – punch front 2/1, around well, slide forward – switch full to switch full, under split on both attempts – front full to front pike, good height again, slide forward – punch rudi to loso. 9.775

Smith – BB – Georgia – aerial to bhs loso, lovely – swtich, arm waves through to her split leap, slightly awkward but sold it – kickover, rises onto her toes but holds it – gainer full, chest down, short with a step forward, which will be the biggest thing.

9.750 with a 9.850/9.650 split.

Shepard – FX – NC State – double pike, nice foot positions, controls step back – split leap full to jump full, around – front lay to front full, controlled step – double tuck, chest down but solid control. 9.850

Scott – BB – Georgia – full turn, hit – fhs, keeps arms moving to bhs loso but a fall, so Georgia will stay on 49.100 for this rotation – resumes with a nice aerial to split jump – split leap to switch to bhs, lovely combination – front full, hop forward

Negrete – FX – NC State – double pike, chest a little forward with a step – split leap full, nice completion there – front full to front tuck, low but secure – switch 1/2 to split jump full, well done – double tuck, short again with a step forward. 9.625

49.100 for Georgia’s beam, 48.700 for NC State’s floor.

After 3:
Georgia 147.250
NC State 146.450

Morgan in exhibition for Georgia on beam, bhs loso, check – switch 1/2, not bad at all, into a beat jump – side aerial, steps through it and has to grab the beam and then fall. Execution potential if the hitting gets there.

Rotation 4

Adler – BB – NC State – bhs loso, nice landing – full turn, smooth – switch to straddle 1/4 – side aerial, secure landing – cat leap to switch side – some angles and things but everything is securely landing – gainer full, holds onto stick. Strong opening.

9.825 with a 9.900/9.750 split.

LaClair – FX – Georgia – front full to rudi, good control – switch side 1/2 to straddle jump – rudi to loso – knee moments in this one but good pass control. 9.800

Jennings – BB – NC State – bhs bhs loso, right on – swtich to tuck jump 3/4, good height – side aerial, big lean over at the hips and falls – gainer full, solid landing. 9.225

De Jong back out on the floor in a big knee brace.

Williams – FX – Georgia – double pike, controlled well – switch side, overturns a little into popa – front full to front lay, right into the corner, don’t think OOB but we’ll see – double tuck, shorter landings with chest down. 9.725

Hall – BB – NC State – bhs loso, another huge break and falls – counting a fall now – full turn, big break again, bend over at the hips, turn to the side – cat leap to switch 1/2, a little under split but secure landing – aerial to beat, hit – split jump 1/2 from side position is strong – gainer full, little hop. 9.075

Fitzgerald – FX – Georgia – rudi to loso, little bit of foot adjusting on that loso landing – good extension in leaps – double tuck, controls step back. 9.775

Ortega – BB – NC State – L turn – bhs onodi combination but it goes awry today with a third-straight fall – switch to split jump to beat jump is hit – switch, a little under on the back leg, right into gainer pike dismount, hit with some direction. 8.750

Cashman – FX – Georgia – back 1.5 to front full is a struggle, gets it around but well under rotated on the full with a deep landing and crossover step – switch side 1/2 to straddle jump – double tuck, another short landing, lunge forward. 9.500

Shepard – BB – NC State – L turn is hit and real – swtich to straddle 1/4, good back leg on switch, hit – bhs loso, squeezes to hold on and not check – side aerial, very small wiggle adjustment – side aerial to 1.5 dismount, short with lunge back. Wonderful until dismount. 9.750

Smith – FX – Georgia – front 2/1, controls the step – back 1.5 to front lay, a little low on combination but gets it around to land under control – switch side, a little over and doesn’t get all the way up on wolf full – rudi to straddle jump is solid. 9.825

Negrete – BB – NC State – full turn, hit – aerial to bhs, smooth – cat leap to switch 1/2 to beat jump – split jump, also comfortable – 2/1 dismount, stuck. Excellent finish. 9.900

Wahl – FX – Georgia – FTDT, hit, slide back – split leap full to wolf full, pulls them around – front tuck to double tuck, chest down, step forward, some foot flexing. 9.825

NC State goes 47.775 on beam with those three falls to make this a drop-score 194.225.

Georgia ends up with 48.950 on floor and a 196.200 total, which is actually their best opening meet score since 2019.

BB: Hollingsworth, Brusch, Hagle, Groth, Stevens, McLaughlin (Ex: Huff)
FX: Brusch, Huff, McLaughlin, Groth, Stevens, Hollingsworth (Ex: Hagle)

Noteworthy here are some freshman absences. No Mayhew or Newman-Achee for Cal here, and Sears on just one event for Alabama. LaCoursiere on two and in exhibition on the others.

UCLA change—Rosen moves to exhibition on vault with Anyimi in the lineup.

We’re almost ready to go now with episode 4 of the Jess and DD Comedy Hour. They now have Jordan Chiles attached permanently. They’re like, “No one can make fun of us if Jordan is here.” Which…fair.

DD really likes talking about tying down Jordan. Should I be worried?

Rotation 1

Lee – VT – UCLA – yfull, good distance, medium slide back. 9.825

Li – UB – Cal -good first hs – blind to high jaeger – hits hs – pak, clean, good foot positions – hits hs on high – giant full to double tuck, stuck landing.

Interested to see what that scores, because it was stronger than a lot of the 9.900s and some 9.950s from this afternoon on bars. And it goes 9.900, so looks like they’re starting from a different place than they got to this afternoon. Not ideal.

Hollingsowrth with a hit on beam for Auburn.

Burgess – FX – Alabama – double tuck, solid – double pike, bounce back – switch side to straddle 3/4 – front full to layout, solid. 9.800

Anastasi VT – UCLA – little bounce up in place on yfull, solid – 9.825

Lauzon – UB – Cal – a bit shy on first hs – toe on to maloney to pak, good – rushes 1/2 turn on low bar, a bit late – FTDT, little hop to the side. 9.825

Brusch – BB – Auburn – wobble on bhs loso – switch, low back leg, into a straddle 1/4 – gainer full, bit of a lean. 9.800

Hagle – BB – Auburn – aerial, large break to the side and falls – another large break at the hips on her loso series

Perea DLO on bars, small hop. And now Perea goes 9.950 for a non-stick, so bars scoring is back to where it was earlier.

Adams – FX – Alabama – good amplitude on double pike – just does pull around her triple wolf, some loss of momentum but gets to three turns –

Campbell – VT – UCLA – nails her usual excellent yfull. And she gets a perfect 9.950.

Cesario – UB – Cal – blind to high jaeger to overshoot, big amplitude, leg break in the overshoot – good hs on high – DLO, small hop. 9.900

Groth finishes beam with a struggle on her gainer full, low, chest forward, step/

Harris – VT – UCLA – very good Y1.5, distance and height excellent, hop forward. 9.875

Hudson with a pretty twisting position on the front 2/1 on floor for Alabama. Switch 1/2 to wolf full, good – double tuck, large bounce back, great until then.

Stevens – BB – Auburn – bhs loso, holds it, small foot adjustment – split to stag ring, little bit of head release, wobble – kickover to knee to wolf turn, good – 1.5, small hop forward.

Frazier (Cal) hit bars, one short hs at the end, hop on DLO. 9.850

Reed – VT – UCLA – great position in the air on Y1.5, medium bounce forward. 9.850

Blanco – FX – Alabama – wolf double, around – double pike, great form, bounce back out of it – double tuck, slide back – switch ring to switch 1/2, lovely – front full to front lay with a dance out. 9.825

Williams – UB – Cal – maloney to pak, lovely – hits 1/2 turn on low bar well – strong hs on high – DLO, holds onto the stuck landing. Excellent. 9.950

Gladieux – FX – Alabamam – open FTDT, good height, little rebound – split leap full to popa, good completion – front lay to rudi to a high straddle jump –

Aderinto hits in exhibition on bars for Cal, great on the bars, double front with some flexed feet and a hop forward.

And it’s a 9.975 on floor for Gladieux. First floor score that has been stratospheric, so keep an eye on that as we progress. If the cocktails finally got delivered to the floor judges for that sixth routine, things could get fancy by the time we get to UCLA in the last rotation.

After 1:
Cal 49.550
UCLA 49.325
Alabama 49.250
Auburn 48.975

Cal leads after bars, as to be expected, and gets over 49.5, which you would need to do with scoring as it is. UCLA will probably be pleased with 49.325 on vault with 4 Yfulls. A solid number. Alabama not the highest on floor, but overall it has been tight and they were pretty bouncy. Jess and DD wanted a score for Blanco but that was more based on liking her and Jess being her elite coach than the actual routine, which had a couple large landing errors. Auburn survived beam, dropping a fall, but had to count a couple wobblier 9.7s. A tight start there.

We’ve moved to the Justice League portion of the broadcast.

Rotation 2

Sears – VT – Alabama – yfull, big height, easy for her since she usually has a 1.5, hop back

Campbell – UB – UCLA – borderline first hs – maloney to bail, solid – double front hop forward, not too big. 9.800

Li – BB – Cal – aerial, shoulder drop wobble, no connection – bhs loso is secure – full turn, arm wave – switch to split to beat is pretty – gainer tuck full, stuck. Good second half.

German – VT – Alabama – high yfull, lean forward to try to hold the landing with some movement. But she still goes 9.900.

Malabuyo lovely on the Maloney to Pak on bars, good cast hs on high – FTDT, bounce back. 9.850

9.500 for Li with a 9.800 start, losing bonus for not doing everything.

Williams – BB – Cal – hits wolf full – aerial to split jump , pretty – bhs loso is secure – switch to split, hit – bhs gainer full, just does hang onto the stick and maybe surprised herself by it. Good one. 9.850

Nice FTDT from Huff on floor for Auburn.

Good Y1.5 from Hudson for Alabama, high, little hop forward. 9.850

Rosen finishes bars with a DLO, chest a little down, hop forward. 9.800

McLaughlin – FX – Auburn – back 1.5 to front lay, did pull it around, but has to tuck it some and a leg separation – split leap full to wolf full, nicely done – double pike, bounce back and OOB.

“Frida Esperanza”

Cesario for Cal with a shoulder drop wobble adjustment after landing her loso. 9.675 that will have to count.

Esparza mistimed that DLO release on bars and took it to her knees.

First three bars routines for UCLA at 9.800 and 9.850. They definitely had the deductions to score like that normally, but that’s not reflective of the super loose standard that had been set on bars in this meet.

Groth – FX – Auburn – gets her front 2/1 around – switch 1/2 to wolf full is well done – back 1.5 to front lay, possible step OOB? – rudi, under control.

Frazier – Cal – BB – full turn, hit – aerial, keeps moving into loso but a large break there, bend at the hips – split jump to split ring jump, excellent – 1.5 dismount, small step. 9.600 which will also have to count.

Blanco with a pretty Y1.5 on vault for Alabama, just a small hop.

Harris – UB – UCLA – Ray is good – hits hs on high – bail, clean, good feet – hits hs on high bar – giant full to DLO, holds the stick, chest a little forward. Good. 9.950

Lauzon – BB – Cal – wolf single – bhs bhs loso, lovely – switch to split, good – super high 2/1, squeezes toes to hold onto that stick.

Wild attempt to hold a stick from Gladieux on vault for Alabama and then ends up with a huge bend forward at the hips and a large bound forward.

Cal gets 9.900 for Lauzon on beam, and now Liz is doing reiki on Gabby Perea’s back to try to save this beam score.

Hollingsworth – FX – Auburn – open FTDT, hit, rebound up in place – switch 1/2 to popa, hit – front tuck to double back, nice.

You guys, I’m deeply concerned that DD doesn’t know what a stick is after all these years.

Perea – BB – Cal – wolf full – kickover to back tuck, well connected – switch to split to beat, nice – side somi to tuck 1.5, small hop forward. 9.800, with a 9.900/9.700 split. Not sure what 9.7 was doing?

Alabama goes 49.275 on vault, as does UCLA on bars, thanks to that 9.950 for Harris. Cal ends up on 48.825 on beam, and Auburn on 49.250 on floor.

After 2:
UCLA 98.600
Alabama 98.525
Cal 98.375
Auburn 98.225

Cal’s wobble-burger on beam changes the standings after the second, dropping them down to third as UCLA moves into first.

Can Jess tell the Virtius person that seeing what two out of four teams scored on the same event, which they’re not competing at the same time, is completely unhelpful in trying to follow a meet.

Rotation 3

Groth – VT – Auburn – large bounce back on opening yfull

LaCoursiere – UB – Alabama – maloney to pak, very clean – van leeuwen, legs together well – hits hs on high – FTDT, chest down but holds the stick. Lovely. 9.900

Lee hits her loso series on beam for UCLA – switch to straddle, good – full turn, overturns slightly – bhs gainer full, stuck. Nice.

Schumaker brings her Y1.5 tucked for Auburn, solid with a step forward.

Perea struggles in her final combination pass on floor, losing form to bring it around.

Alipio – BB – UCLA – side aerial to loso attempt, way short and falls –

Pawlak – UB – Alabama – good first hs – maloney to upstart to bail, nice combination, hits vertical on bail – big arch on high bar but pulls it back – DLO, chest forward, step forward. 9.775

Hubbard nearly finds stuck Y1.5 on vault for Auburn, ends up hopping back. 9.875

Kane – FX – Cal – punch frotn full to rudi, large bounce back out of control – switch side and a 1/2 to wolf jump – back 1.5 to front lay to dance-lean out to split leap, a fun jape. 9.725

Rosen – BB – UCLA – switch to split jump, hit, a bit tight on split position – aerial to beat jump, secure – bhs loso, right on – 2/1, bounce back. 9.825

Stuck dismount from Machado on bars for Alabama. 9.925

Huff – VT – Auburn Y1.5 is strong, hop forward, off line, 9.800. Did Jordan just ask why they don’t have direction lines on vault? I’m not following.

Williams – FX – Cal – front lay to rudi, big bounce back – wolf double, pulls it around – bacj 1.5 to layout, hit.

Campbell – BB – UCLA – falls immediately on her wolf turn – UCLA counting a fall now – bhs loso, and now a second fall from her – split leap to switch 1/2 is good, into beat jump –

Hollingsworth gets her Y1.5, medium bounce forward. 9.800

Adams lovely giant full into double tuck on bars, but a little rebound. 9.875

Cesario – FX – Cal – back 1.5 to front full, a bit under rotated on that full and hops it around – switch 1/2 to wolf jump full is nice.

Harris – BB – UCLA – “I really like Serena” – bhs loso bhs right on – switch to split leap to full turn, good – kickover, holds it – 1.5 dismount was high, but landed short with a pretty large lunge back.

Doggette – UB – Alabama – good tkatchev to pak – 1/2 turn on low is great – some short cast hs on her – DLO – would have been a stick last year but she had to hold the finish position this year and ended up stepping. A good argument for the finish position rule to force to show control.

Malabuyo – BB – wolf single, hit – bhs loso is good – aerial to beat jump, right on – hits split ring jump – bhs gainer full is awkward, buckles on landing with a pretty large lunge forward.

Lauzon with a pretty floor for Cal to pull that rotation back together. 9.925

Blanco – UB – Alabama – goos first hs – maloney to pak, great, has the toe point – van leeuwen, every so small leg break – FTDT, little movement. Strong. 9.950

Moors is in exhibition on beam for UCLA, aerial to fhs, hits it with a little lean. Side aerial, hit – switch 1/2, large break, bend at the hips and an arm wave, lovely sissone – punch tuck front full dismount, stuck. So close to being great, but…

Frazier (Cal) on FX – DLO, excellent, controls the step back – switch ring to switch 1/2 to split 1/2, gets her positions – “Her choreography fits her exotic look” – DD Breaux. When grandma starts talking at thanksgiving and you decide to go deaf. Front tuck through to double tuck, controls the step back. Excellent. 9.925.

49.125 for Cal on floor.

Andi Li in exhibition on floor, secure double tuck landing – double y spin, almost all the way around – front full to front lay, a little low but solid – switch to switch ring 1/2 – would have definitely upped the total if it had been in the lineup. Scores 9.900.

After 3:
Alabama 148.050
Cal 147.525
Auburn 147.275
UCLA 147.050

UCLA looked at Cal and said, “No THIS is how you lose your mind on beam” to drop out of first place all the way to fourth. Alabama takes over a pretty hefty lead and will have the session win if they can show they’re the ones who can figure out this beam.

On the topic of Cal’s beam, Liz submitted a piece of paper that just said, “I know more than you” and both inquiries were accepted, Li going up to 9.550 (still dropped) and Perea up to 9.825, which increases their team total.

Rotation 4

Willaims – VT – Cal – holds onto the landing on her yfull, chest a little forward, arm waves to keep the landing.

Gladieux – BB – Alabama – bhs lay pike is secure – aerial, little arm wave before beat jump – switch to split, wobble – 2/1, holds onto the landing with an arm wave like Williams. 9.825

9.900 for Williams on vault, 9.900 for Hollingsworth on bars. We’re going now. Last call.

Cesario on vault with a bigger bounce back on yfull.

Malabuyo finishes floor with dobuel pike, little rebound. 9.800

Brusch – UB – Auburn – good first hs – toe on to maloney, hit into a good vertical bail – big arch on hs on high, pulls back – DLO, hop back.

Rybicki – BB – Alabama – good full turn – bhs loso, huge break and falls – so now Alabama is in danger – cat leap to switch 1/2, secure but hips to the side like a switch side

Moors – FX – UCLA – front 2/1 to front tuck, lovely, comes up just a little short, small step back – gorgeous loso side pass – switch 1/2 and wolf full, excellent – rudi, secure landing. 9.950

McLaughlin – UB – Auburn – good first hs – maloney to pak, strong – 1/2 turn on low, good finish – hits cast on high – quite late on giant full, into double tuck with a lunge back.9.800

Burgess – BB – Alabama – bhs loso, strong – side aerial, lean correction, brings it back – switch, little arm movement but keeps her connection going into beat jump – switch side, very slight corrections on a lot but covering it – gainer pike, hop forward. 9.775.

Huge stick on a Y1.5 for Lauzon, excellent. 9.950

Lee finishes floor for UCLA with a high double pike, slide back.

Adams – BB – Alabama – wolf double, hit – aerial, lovely extension – bhs loso, secure – switch, arm wave into split – 1.5, stuck. Pretty work. 9.900

Van Leeuwen fall for Bartman on bars for Auburn.

Harris – FX – UCLA – DLO, excellent – double tuck, chest up, under control well – back 1/5 to 1/2 to double stag, a bit of travel back. 9.925

Frazier (Cal) – VT – DTY, solid landing, small hop back. 9.850

Hudson – BB – Alabama – aerial, big break, large leg up wobble – bhs loso, secure – switch to switch combination is good – side aerial, hit – 1.5, little movement.

Reed – FX – UCLA – LOVEEEE that we’re seeing Andi Li with a bear head on instead of her DLO – split leap full to wolf jump full, good amplitude – front lay to rudi, controls the step back. Good.

Stevens with a good Ray to overshoot on bars for Auburn.

Blanco – BB – Alabama – aerial, lovely – bhs loso loso, small lean correction – switch to beat, nice – holds onto the landing on her 1.5, good. 9.875

Campbell – FX – UCLA – FTDT, chest a bit forward with a step – front lay to front full, controls the step – doubel tuck, strong. 9.925

Jayden Silvers hit an exhibition y1.5 for Cal, which is big progress for that lineup. 9.900

FINAL
Alabama 197.125
Cal – 196.850
Auburn – 196.600
UCLA – 196.550

Alabama figured out beam enough to take the session victory here with a score over 197, but no one is really going to want to keep these numbers. Both UCLA and Cal will know that’s a mid-197 with a hit beam, and Auburn may be the most pleased of all the teams with that hit for 196.600.

    1. No, I did not. I went back and checked in the stream, and Niya Randolph’s score was displayed as a 9.0/9.75 split at about 18 minutes in.

      1. Well then it was a glitch in scoreboard/graphic, as the official score is 9.700/9.850, not an actual split

  1. What is the highest score in history on UB, because if these same judges are judging bars in the 4th session tonight…..

  2. Jade Carey’s uneven bar score is proof these judges all need to be fired. They cheat for her every meet.

  3. Why does Cashman get put into any line ups, honestly. I know they don’t have much of a field at Georgia but she’s constantly a 9-9.5 girlie 🤦🏼‍♀️

    1. ?? She had over a 9.9 NQS on floor last year and a 9.85 NQS on vault and over a 9.7 on bars

  4. That routine suits Lily Hudson so much better than Emily Gaskins. I will never get over the fact that they stuck that routine with on her for all four years.

  5. “You guys, I’m deeply concerned that DD doesn’t know what a stick is after all these years.” I’m not sure what knows what gymnastics is today.

  6. “Wild attempt to hold a stick from Gladieux on vault”

I need this in the gif post

  7. CAL should have made better choices with their exhibitions on floor and vault… they would have tied Alabama if they had. They were also underscored on bars – what the hell with Andi Li’s score? I prefer to pretend the beam meltdown did not happen.
