We have Georgia and Michigan to open the day. Michigan is now the only team in the top 10 without a 198 this season and will need to rectify that soon if they want to control their own ranking destiny, while Georgia still has a 195.650 road score hanging around their NQS that they’ll be eager to drop if the scores come.

Meanwhile, LSU is holding a podium secret and looking for 198.100 to lock up the #2 ranking for Monday. Iowa v Iowa State is also a big one today as they currently sit straddling the drop zone with Iowa State in 36th and Iowa in 37th.

Rotation 1

Thaxton – VT – Michigan – yfull, pretty large bounce back it seemed from this angle, then slight movement to control. 9.750

Howard – UB – Georgia – Church, can’t get her grip over the bar and falls – resumes and reboes the church, hits it but tucks it, connects to overshoot – giant full to double tuck, little hop back. 9.125

Mulligan – VT – Michigan – Yfull, good amplitude, very small movement on landing and some leg separation. 9.875

Finnegan – UB – Georgia – good first hs – Ray is solid – toe on to pak, full straddle and catches a bit close, works through – FTDT, holds landing. 9.750

Guggino – VT – Michigan – y1.5, solid one, just a little bounce up in place. 9.925

Wahl – UB – Georgia – good first hs – maloney to pak, legs together – late on 1/2 turn on low bar – DLO, hop back. Solid. 9.800

Wilson – VT – Michigan – y1.5, just a little short, slide back and off direction some. 9.875

Snyder – UB – Georgia – Church to overshoot is hit – legs together casts – giant full to double tuck, holds the stick with a lean. 9.875

Brooks – VT – Michigan – y1.5, also comes in a bit short with a step back. 9.850

Scott – UB – Georgia – high ray, catches with some elbows, connects to pak, hits van leeuwen – DLO looked mistimed, got no amplitude and lands it to her knees. Counting a fall now, so this isn’t going to be the score. 9.275

Jordan – VT – Michigan – yfull, solid distance, chest up this time but a lunge back, off direction. 9.775

Smith – UB – Georgia – good first hs – maloney to bail, clean – hits final cast hs on high – FTDT, holds the landing, a little chest position. 9.950

Michigan opens with 49.300 on vault, not a giant number by this year’s standards and below 198 pace but about on track for them for this lineup’s current health.

Smith does go 9.950, but it will be 48.650 for Georgia, their low bars score for the season.

Rotation 2

LaClair – VT – Georgia – struggles on her yfull, chest well down with a bound forward. 9.675

Vore – UB – Michigan – toe on to tkatchev, hit, not the highest tkatchev but fine – bail, slight angle – a bit quick in final cast hs – DLO, stuck. 9.850

Smith – VT – Georgia – yfull, solid form but tried to hold the landing with a little lean and then ended up shuffling forward anyway. 9.750 (not the 9.950 the scores say, we don’t have another one of THOSE)

Wilson – UB – Michigan – blind to piked jaeger, hit, tucked a little initiating it – bail, looked like a bit of an arch on catch – hits cast hs on high – DLO, also finds the landing. 9.925, going high there for me

Scott – VT – Georgia – yfull, great amplitude but a giant bounce back and a bit of direction. 9.750

Bauman – UB – Michigan – toe 1/2 to jaeger to overshoot, hits – blind to double front, good leg position, small step. 9.875

Battle – VT – Georgia – hits her y1.5 but another with a large bound forward. 9.750

Brooks – UB – Michigan – hits first hs – blind to piked jaeger, hit – toe on to bail, legs together – good cast hs throughout – DLO 1/1, lean and then step back with both feet. 9.825

Finnegan – VT – Georgia – y1.5, better but does come up short with a slide back. 9.825

Marr – UB – Michigan – toe on to maloney to bail, it’s kind of in between an overshoot and a bail handstand, definitely not to handstand – DLO, small hop to the side. 9.775

Wahl – VT – Georgia – y1.5, solid distance, hop forward, useful score. 9.875

Lipetz – UB – Michigan – good first hs – toe on to Ray and takes it very very far and falls – resumes with a hit pak – 1/2 turn on low is late – DLO, hop back.

Neither team getting the number that they wanted in the second rotation, Georgia vaulting 48.950, which is their second-lowest on the season, and Michigan goes 49.250 on bars, which is their lowest since January. 198 is going to be pretty much off the table for Michigan at this point, but one of those 49.7 floors can still bring this score up to a countable level.

Anyway, LSU went 49.675 on vault in the first rotation at their meet with a Bryant 10.

After 2
Michigan 98.550
Georgia 97.600

Also Kentucky is about to get a 900 on bars and Worley hasn’t gone yet. Worley hits her first hs, tkatchev , pak, good height, some loose back position in handstands but hitting vertical – FTDT, step back. 9.900 for a 49.500 bars season high for Kentucky.

Rotation 3

Mulligan – BB – Michigan – full turn – cat leap to aerial, good front leg position – bhs loso, hit securely – beat to straddle jump 1/2, hit well – bhs tuck 1.5 dismount, step forward. 9.850

Williams – FX – Georgia – back 1.5 to layout, good layout shape – switch side, overturns into popa, a bit under – double pike, chest down, step forward – double tuck, hit. 9.825

Guggino – BB – Michigan – full turn, slight correction – bhs loso, good height and position, secure – straddle jump, little pause before straddle 1/2 to beat jump, and misses her feet on the beat jump and falls – side somi – split 1/2 from side, small lean – bhs layout 1.5, stuck. 9.325

Fitzgerald – FX – Georgia – rudi, attempts to connect to a loso but can’t and does kind of a straddle tuck – double tuck, short, step forward. 9.650

Wilson – BB – Michigan – hitch kick – bhs loso, saves it, missed her foot on the bhs but was still able to hit a loso, but a step back and wobble – split jump to switch split jump, good – full turn – double tuck dismount, step back. 9.725

LaClair – FX – Georgia – front full to 2/1, covers landing forward with a hop to present, but definitely a short landing – switch side 1/2 to straddle jump – rudi to loso is hit. 9.850

Vore – BB – Michigan – bhs loso, hit, small lean – full turn – kickover, secure – straddle jump to split jump 1/2, small hesitation before beat jump – 1.5 dismount, step to the side. 9.850

Wahl – FX – Georgia – FTDT, hit, bounce back – split leap full, cuts off that position, into wolf jump full – front tuck through to double tuck, controls the step. And we’re into 9.925 territory

Bauman – BB – Michigan – full turn – bhs loso with a wobble, leg up correction – split jump to straddle jump 1/2 to beat jump, secure landing – side somi – gainer pike dismount, hop back. 9.825

Snyder – FX – Georgia – rudi to back layout to double stag, under control well – switch 1/2 to wolf full – tuck jump full – double pike, a bit too large on the step back with a slide. 9.900

Brooks – BB – Michigan – bhs loso loso, another big save but a big wobble, leg up to horizontal, turn to the side – switch to beat is good – full turn, hit – kickover with a lean – 2/1 dismount, hop in place. 9.800 is pretty kind there to get Michigan over 49 on this event.

Smith – FX – Georgia – front 2/1, good position – back 1.5 to front lay, not a ton of amplitude but good form – switch side to wolf full – rudi to straddle jump, good control. And we have a 9.950.

49.050 on beam is trouble for Michigan. They would now need 49.750 on floor just to make this a counting score. Georgia goes 49.450 on floor, a big number that will make them rue the 48s in the first two rotations. Though again with a 195.650 to drop, this is still on track to be a fairly useful score for the moment.

Also we’re on 40-but-you-can’t-see-it watch for Haleigh Bryant with 10s on vault and bars.

We’re underway at the Alabama quad, and Sears got 9.925 for the opening vault, followed by 9.875 for Bunagan.

Lacoursiere – VT – Alabama – hits her y1.5 but a crossover step forward and some direction. 9.725

Knight – BB – Illinois – switch to split leap to beat jump, hit – side aerial to loso, hit with a bit of knees – side somi, holds it – full turn – gainer full, hop back

Hudson – VT – Alabama – hits a y1.5 with a medium bound forward. 9.800

Cook for Talladega finishes floor with front lay to front full, under with a stagger stumble to the side.

Sirjord with great amplitude on her jaeger on bars, hits giant full to double tuck with a stick.

Gladieux – VT – Alabama – yfull, good height, bounce up in place. 9.900

Ward has a big lean to the side on her loso on beam – aerial, arm wave to minimize the correction – switch split jump to straddle 1/4 – gainer full, step back.

Williams – FX – Talladega – front lay to front 2/1, hits it, some knee and a step to the side – front lay to front full is solid

Blanco VT – pretty y1.5 and based on the scoring I feel like I know where we’re going.

And yes, 10.000 for Blanco and a 49.500 for Alabama.

Mueller – BB – Illinois – full turn, little check – bhs loso, lean correction – switch to switch, solid positions, kind of leaning through it but covered –

Gerdes – UB – Minnesota – maloney to bail, gets to vertical in the end, good feet – FTDT, holds the stick. 9.850

Back over at Michigan, Morgan has a fall for Georgia in the second spot on beam, following a 9.850 for Howard.

Hooten – UB – Minnesota – blind to piked jaeger, good amplitude, connects to overshoot – FTDT, stuck. 9.925

Johnson – FX – Talladega – front tuck through to double tuck, large stumble back OOB – switch side 1/2 to straddle jump, shows turn completion on the switch side 1/2 – double pike, some feet, good amplitude, little shuffle forward

Minnesota on 49.325 on bars.

Takekawa – BB – Illinois – side aerial to bhs, good height, secure – full turn – switch, small pause before loso, another solid landing – gainer full, good stick. 9.900. 49.025 beam for Illinois

Maldonado – FX – Talladega – front lay to rudi to straddle jump, travels all the way back OOB – double pike, a bit deep, holds the slide back in bounds – switch 1/2 to wolf full –

40 watch is off. Only 9.950 for Bryant on beam.

Back at Michigan, Georgia has Lily Smith up in the 5th spot on beam – aerial to bhs, good form, wobble on the bhs with a lean – switch to split jump, hit – kickover, high position, little rebound on landing – full turn – aerial to split jump, excellent – gainer full, some pike, step back. 9.850

Wilson – FX – Michigan – open FTDT, controls the step back – switch side 1/2 to straddle – front lay to rudi, clean. They’ve been going very high so far for routines with short landings and hops and this didn’t have that.

It’s 9.975 for Wilson.

Scott – BB – Georgia – fhs to bhs loso, hits with a little wind correction – aerial to split jump – split leap, lean and pause, no combo – switch to split jump is solid – front full dismount, stuck. 9.850

Georgia through a 5-hit beam rotation to end on 196.300

Thaxton – FX – Michigan – tuck jump full – front tuck through to double tuck, short landing with a chest down one-footed hop stagger – double pike under control.

Michigan will end on 197.075, which will not count for NQS, so they’ll be at the mercy of a number of teams in the rankings this weekend.

196.300 takes Georgia to 18th at the moment, ahead of ASU, Arizona, and NC State, all of whom have further meets.

We have another 10 for Worley on floor as Kentucky goes 49.600 there.

Second rotation underway in Alabama, Hudson up 2nd on bars – toe on to maloney, leg break into basil, gets to vertical – giant full to double tuck, feet, holds the stick. Following 9.800 for Gladieux. 9.875

Lacoursiere – UB – Alabama – maloney to pak, nice – van leeuwen, legs together – FTDT is still a struggle, very short, large lunge forward. 9.625

Moraw – BB – Minnesota – full turn, good – bhs loso, secure – side aerial, some flexed foot – straddle to straddle 3/4, good – bhs gainer full, holds onto the stick with a little control movement. And it’s 9.950 which is a lot.

Adams – UB – Alabama – maloney to pak, smooth – hits 1/2 turn position on low – a bit shy on final cast hs – giant full to double tuck and the weirdest college salute to try to save a step and ends up with two. 9.725 that will count.

Gerdes – BB – Minnesota – aerial, nice – bhs loso, big wobble, pulls it back, but a turn to the side and two arm circles – stag ring, solid – bhs gianer full, stuck. Still gets 9.850.

Blanco – UB – Alabama – nice first hs – maloney to pak, great – hits hs on low – van leeuwen, clean – FTDT, solid. 9/950

Horak – BB – Minnesota – also a lean on her loso series but smaller, pulls it back – pike jump to straddle jump 1/2, secure – beat to loso, some feet, secure landing – gainer full, stuck. 9.875

Machado – UB – Alabama – pak, nice – toe on to van leeuwen, high, a bit shy hs on high – toe full to double tuck, holds onto landing with a lean. 9.900

Townes – FX – Illinois – front 2/1, gets it around with some knee position – back 1.5 to front full, controls the step – clear completion on her leaps

Sirjord – BB – Minnesota – hits her loso series with some foot position – switch to stag ring, hop forward – bhs gainer full, sticks

Alabama has to count a 9.725 on bars to go 49.250 there, falling behind Minnesota’s 49.475 on beam.

After 2
Minnesota 98.800
Alabama 98.750
Illinois 98.050
Talladega 96.450

It’s a 39.925 AA score for Bryant, which ties her with Maggie Nichols for 4th-best all time. LSU is done on 198.425, and Auburn also gets a road 197 with 197.050.

Alabama starts rotation 3 with Hudson on beam – aerial to bhs is hit – full turn, solid – switch to switch, a bit tight but secure – switch 1/2, also looked under to me – 1.5, good stick. And we’re starting 9.950 here.

Townes – VT – Illinois – hits yfull, bounce back, some knee tucking on the block

Waligora hits her loso series on beam but a small step and lean correction – side aerial, another step back, large break at the hips – split jump to tuck jump full, a little under rotated – 1.5 dismount, hop forward. 9.625

Johnson for Minnesota falls on her final double tuck on floor

Mueller – VT – Illinois – yfull, hit, hop back, also a straddle on the block, 9.775

Burgess – BB – Alabama – full turn, nice – one arm bhs to loso, secure – side aerial, arm wave correction and lean – switch to beat is nice – beat to switch side, holds it – gainer pike, stuck. 9.875

Really nice Y1.5 from Ward for Illinois, sticks. Just some knees in the air. 9.925.

Pearl finishes floor for Minnesota with a stuck double pike with some chest position. And scores 9.950.

Iowa defeats Iowa State, Iowa scoring 196.450 to ISU’s 196.175. That is a season high for Iowa, though they can’t move out of 37th. Iowa State does move ever so slightly ahead of Towson for the moment and into 35th. Towson’s 36th place NQS right now is 196.320, so we know it will be the highest regionals cutoff ever already.

Adams – BB – Alabama coming after another 9.950 from Gladieux – aerial, lovely position – bhs loso, secure – switch to split, hit – bhs 1.5, crossover step backward. 9.850

Koch – FX – Minnesota – front 2/1, hit, slide forward – split leap full to wolf jump full – back 1.5 to front lay, under control – rudi, some knee form. 9.800

Blanco – BB – Alabama – aerial, solid – full turn, good – bhs loso loso, wonderful form, small squeeze lean on landing – 1.5 dismount, hop forward. They were ready to go 10 but this won’t get it. 9.900

49.525 beam for Alabama.

Hooten – FX – Minnesota – FTDT, little bounce – front full to high front pike but comes up short on landing with a slide back – double tuck, solid control. 9.875

Alabama’s 49.525 beam pulls them back ahead of Minnesota’s 49.325 on floor.

After 3
Alabama 148.275
Minnesota 148.125
Illinois 146.950
Talladega 143.700

Kentucky finishes with 197.800 to UNC’s 196.525. That’s a road high for Kentucky that will see them at least temporarily move head of Utah. It’s a big score for UNC but may be too little too late as they have nothing higher than 195.500 on the road.

And we have a 10.000 on bars for McCallum. Utah drops a fall from Sabado and goes 49.525 on bars.

Rotation 4

Jenks – VT – Minnesota – hits yfull, small hop back, some pike. 9.800

Waligora finishes floor with a solid 1.5 to lay, good height. 9.900

Burgess – FX – Alabama – double pike, good amplitude, small front foot movement? – double tuck, good control, some foot flexing – a little under on her switch side and straddle combo landing – front full to lay, shows control, leg separation in front full. 9.900

Knight for Illinois has the mush legs on her DLO dismount with 34 steps back but does not fall.

Machado – FX – Alabama – double tuck, shows good control – wolf triple and wolf double are well done – lands short on front lay in combination with a step back – switch to switch 1/2. 9.750

Fall from Butler in the second spot for Talladega on beam on a side aerial

Hooten finishes for Minnesota on vault – good amplitude on y1.5, some knee, hop forward. 9.900

Minnesota 49.275 on vault to end on 197.400, their second highest road number and temporarily into 15th place.

Hudson – FX – Alabama – front lay to front 2/1 under control – switch 1/2 to wolf jump full is nicely completed with clear positions – double tuck, foot flexing, good control on landing – 9.950

Saltness – UB – Illinois – nice pak – 1/2 turn on low bar is past – hits solid hs – giant full to double tuck, holds landing with an arm wave. 9.800

Blanco – FX – Alabama – wolf double – double pike, good height and position, bounce back – double tuck, under control – switch 1/2 to popa, good rise in popa – front full to front lay, nice. I wouldn’t but obviously it will be.

Another 10 for Blanco. 39.850 AA with two 10s for her as well. “It almost looked like she didn’t even believe it.”

Swaby – BB – Talladega – hits wolf turn but falls on loso series

Gladieux – FX – Alabama – FTDT, chest up, little bounce – split leap full to popa – front lay to rudi to split jump, good control. 9.975 for her as punishment for not being a senior.

49.725 floor for Alabama, they go 198.000 exactly. Alabama will move ahead of Michigan in the rankings.

Alondra finishes for Talladega on beam – cat leap to kickover, a bit deep but holds it – bhs loso, secure – switch to straddle 1/4, good – beat to split jump 3/4, hit – gainer full, hop back. 9.750. 191.000 final for Talladega.

FINAL
Alabama 198.000
Minnesota 197.400
Illinois 196.075
Talladega 191.000

  1. I don’t pay for Big10+ and there’s no link to the LSU meet. In fact, there are no meets before 9pm EST we can watch if we don’t pay for it or ACC+. Why are all these meets behind a pay wall? I have cable and ESPN+.

    1. There’s Iowa/Iowa State. But yeah, it seems like there’s always a weird spot at this point in the season where meets are relegated to obscurity.

    2. I think sports TV in the US this weekend is all tied up with NCAA basketball because of conference championships & build up to the release of the NCAA tournament brackets. It sucks, but NCAA basketball will always beat NCAA gymnastics for TV slots.

If you get SEC and/or ACC Network on your cable, you should be able to sign in using your cable sign-in info to get SEC+ and/or ACC+. Unfortunately, if you don’t get the regular SEC & ACC channels on cable or similar (YouTube TV, etc), you can’t watch them. There may be a way if you use a VPN & find an international stream, but I’ve never tried.

    3. Women’s basketball conference tournaments plus a bunch of Saturday and Sunday meets this weekend

  2. The broadcast & broadcasters improved as the meet progressed (id-ing gymnasts by name…correct name…graphics got better too). Thought commentary was competent, nice relaxed presentation with predictable technical, if somewhat limited range of information.

  3. Clemson home scoring is about up there with LSU — insanity.

Please, NCAA, do at least one thing right this year and take a look at judging. Whether it’s challenges, replays, more training, or more random judge assignments by the NCAA instead of schools/conferences assigning judges. Changes are desperately needed.

  4. Did not expect Luisa Blanco to head to the post season one event shy of a gym slam, and especially not on the one event where it seems like she knocks on the door every other week.

(even when the floor 10 was absolutely a senior night gift and the vault one was…let’s go with “plausible but not inevitable”?)
