It’s almost over! Soon. What will we do with ourselves. But first, we have the final five (WE ARE THE FINAL FIVE) event gold medals to hand out.
And after the waking apocalypse that was the women’s vault final yesterday, we can only hope the men’s vault final does not view that as a role model.
No withdrawals or changes to the start list as yet.

It’s beam time. It’s beam time.
Saraiva (BRA) – BB – bhs mount, holds it smoothly – full turn, small adjustment – bhs loso, another small check, just slightly hesitant – switch ring is hit – aerial to split ring jump, possible little pause before bhs, great leg position in aerial – side somi, lean forward wobble – split leap to split jump, good feet – double pike, good, small step. A little tentative in places but a hit. Let’s wait 90 hours to get her score. 13.900. 5.7/8.200.
Sugihara (JPN) – BB – switch mount, connected to split ring leap to korbut, good speed – aerial to split to straddle, very solid – bhs loso, smooth, right on – y spin, slightly rushed – side aerial, secure – switch ring, absorbs – double pike, nearly stuck. That was remarkable. 14.166 and into 1st. 6.0/8.166. Normally, it would be sacrilege to go ahead of Flavia, but hot damn that routine.
We’ve got to pick up this judging pace, though.
Black (CAN) – BB – switch to switch 1/2, little pause before korbut – double turn is hit – connects to full turn with little adjustment – backup dance combo – front tuck, solid, little hop – bhs layout 2 feet, strong, a little flat, a little wobble – side somi, holds it – 2.5 dmt, foot crossing, little hop. Great routine, she should be thrilled, she just had to go after those first two. More formies and a couple more checkies for Black. 13.600. 5.8/7.800.
Nemour (ALG) – BB – does loso mount to loso, perfect – bhs bhs layout 2 feet, hit, good height, little rebound in place, some leg separation – aerial to split to straddle, good – switch, little slow to switch 1/2, both elements well done – side aerial, right on – wolf turn single, plays it safe after the everything – bhs bhs double pike, biggest issue of the routine with a lunge back and another step, but that was excellent as well. 14.300 and she goes into first now. 6.2/8.100
Second half athletes, the silken glove has been thrown at your feet.
Caylor (USA) – BB – switch mount, hit – bhs loso loso, very solid, some knees – side aerial, little hesitation, stops before switch to straddle – aerial to split to korbut, good work, will get the series bonus – wolf double, stands up out of it with a wobble but keeps it on – bhs bhs and missed her foot on the second bhs and got nothing into her double pike, lands to her arms. 11.800. 5.0/6.900
Yap (SGP) – BB – switch mount to switch 1/2, check – great height on switch ring, hit – bhs to back pike or whip back layout – full turn – aerial, absorbs before split and straddle, good positions – front tuck, secure, great foot position – bhs bhs 1.5 dmt, lunge forward. Great job, got priced out of the top spots by the first flight, but a great hit. 13.333. 5.4/7.933
Mayor of The Sidelines Ellie Black is the first to congratulate.
Voinea (ROU) – BB – hits the layout full to start, little check – switch to split is solid, good feet – bhs layout is fully off, barely got half a foot touching the beam and falls – double turn, overturns check – aerial, knee position – side aerial – switch 1/2 is well done, good split and front foot, little pause before bhs – double tuck, two whatever steps out of it. 12.533. 5.8/6.733
Zhang (CHN) – BB – switch mount to switch 1/2 to korbut, good height – layout 2 feet to split jump, connected, solid – switch ring to bhs, good rhythm – switch side, little pause before straddle and back dive, all hit securely – switch to split jump 1/2 to straddle jump 3/4 – double pike, lunge back.
