The back layout 1.5 has long been a favored beam dismount in the NCAA ranks, but it has skyrocketed in popularity in elite beginning in 2017 with the elimination of the minimum dismount difficulty requirement.

Before that, you would see maybe one person at an entire worlds or Olympics going for the 1.5, but now it is becoming all the rage for those who are willing to count a C skill, which is almost everyone.
