Day 2 of selection camp (which may or may not influence the decision-making process ) will see everyone compete beam, 8 people compete bars, 3 people compete vault, and 1 Dulcy Caylor compete floor.
The stream is set for USAG’s YouTube from the start today, so fingers crossed it will function like something in the vicinity of a real sport.
We have the legs rotation up first. Esponda, Carey, Molomo on vault and Caylor on floor.
Caylor – FX – a little lean out of memmel turn – DLO, gets it around, chest down with a hop – back full through to double tuck to front tuck, lower but just gets it, bound forward – wolf double, some arm control but definitely around – double L turn, heel drop – double pike, solid position, hop back tour jete 1/2 to switch 1/2, some back leg.
Esponda – VT 1 – solid DTY, good chest up, hop back, some legs
Esponda – VT 2 – hits Lopez, some piked hips, chest slightly low, hop solid
Carey – VT 1 – Cheng is landed, better chest up landing position than yesterday, quite a large bounce back, some knee crossing.
Carey – VT 2 – Strong DTY, good height, small hop back, some leg form. Both vaults better than yesterday.
Molomo – VT 1 – does a handspring front tuck 1/2, chest super down and lunge forward
Molomo – VT 2 – high Y1.5, large lunge forward
Second rotation will have the full complement of gymnasts on bars and beam.
Rotation 2
Rose – UB – weiler to weiler 1/2, gets it together, connects to maloney to clear hip full to pak – van leeuwen, solid – tkatchev – arches hs on high bar and goes over the wrong way, has to add an extra swing – DLO 1/1, hop to the side
Beam warmup still ongoing. Looks like they’re getting a full 20 minute warmup rotation there, not just a one-touch.
Moreau – UB – hesitation into weiler 1/2, pulls it back into maloney to clear hip to church, solid – pak to toe on to van leeuwen, small arch in the middle – giant full – DLO, slightly deep with a lunge back.
Molomo – BB – switch mount – wolf double, hit, arm correction – side aerial to loso, holds it – switch, solid back leg – back tuck – aerial, shorter with some knee, check before split and straddle – double tuck, deep, stumble back with a couple steps
Bullock – UB – front stradler 1/2 to inbar full to inbar shap to pak, connected – van leeuwen, solid – inbar 1/2 to jaeger, hit – giant 1/2, short of vertical – FTDT, some shins apart, stuck landing. Very solid, totally unnecessary routine since she clinched her spot yesterday.
Carey – BB – forward roll mount – wolf double, a little slow but fine and around – aerial to split to korbut, hit – bhs loso, secure, some knee position – side aerial, secure – switch to switch 1/2, pretty low, small shoulder drop wobble – bhs bhs double tuck, step back.
Blakely – UB – stalder full to church, hit – stalder tkatchev piked to pak – toe full to van leeuwen – toe higgins to front giant to double front 1/2 out, small step back. Good.
Rivera – UB – weiler 1/2 to toe full to stalder shap to stalder, small hesitation but connects into stalder tkatchev piked to pak – maloney to tkatchev, low but hit – 1/2 turn on high is past, immediately into a get-me-off-this-bar of a dismount, FTDT, close to the bar and low with a lunge forward
Esponda – BB – bhs mount is strong – back tuck, secure – side aerial to loso, very good – switch to switch 1/2, under split on both – wolf to straddle – wolf triple, around with some hesitation – double pike, chest up, medium bounce back
Pease – UB – front stradler 1/2 to inbar full to inbar shap, connected to tkatchev, hit – pak – stalder shap 1/2, little leg sep – toe 1/2 to double front 1/2 out, stuck
Caylor – BB – switch mount, strong – bhs loso loso, secure, knees – split ring jump – side aerial, check, no connection – switch to switch 1/2, under on the switch 1/2 – aerial, check – breaks combo into split and korbut – wolf double – wolf to sissone, solid – bhs bhs double pike, chest down and hop
Drusch – BB – loso mount, check – bhs loso loso series is secure – aerial to split to straddle, strong, connected – side aerial, small check – switch to switch 1/2, under with a check – side somi, bigger lean forward – wolf 2.5 – split jump full from side was better, got it back – double pike, lower, step back
Richardson – BB – side aerial to loso, solid – leans through wolf double but gets it – aerial, works to get the connection to split sissone – switch to split 1/2 to korbut, good connection – double pike, small hop. Good one.
Welp, that was rotation 2.
Rotation 3
I’m sorry, everyone is disqualified due to boredom. It took too long. There’s no worlds team.
“Just whenever” is a solid summary of the day from Annie.
Moreau – BB – switch mount to switch 1/2 to back tuck, connected, solid, just somewhat under on switch 1/2 – wolf triple, hit – side aerial to loso, secure, some leg position – aerial to split to straddle, little shoulder dip correction – double pike, super deep and can’t save it, falls
Drusch – UB – clear hip to toe full to maloney to pak to van leeuwen, gets the connection again – blind to jaeger, hit – DLO 1/1, step forward. Solid.
Bullock – BB – full turn, good – bhs loso, secure – switch to split jump 1/2, good switch, under on the jump 1/2 split position – switch 1/2, some back foot, holds it – side aerial, strong – aerial, wobble – side somi, hit – 2.5, solid landing, hops feet together. Good.
Richardson – UB – jaeger, hit – toe on to toe full, pauses in the middle but works through it – pak, some leg sep – maloney to tkatchev is solidly hit – 1/2 turn on high – DLO 1/1 with a leg separation, hop back
Blakely – BB – neck roll mount – wolf triple, hit – back tuck full, holds it – fhs front tuck is well short and falls – front pike, a little short but holds it with a slide back – switch to switch 1/2 to back tuck, connected – aerial to split to bhs – double tuck, step back
Rivera – BB – wolf 2.5, hit – side aerial, arm circle into split and straddle – bhs lay 2 feet, secure – aerial to split jump, lean forward wobble before korbut – switch ring, good, or as everyone in the background said “gooooooooooooooddddddd” – switch, nice position, goooooooooooddddddddddd – bhs bhs double pike, chest down, step forward, hit.
Pease – BB – wolf triple, strong – switch to split to onodi, hits it – bhs loso loso, secure, some foot and knee position – aerial, leans a little into straddle connection, does the bhs full and hits – side aerial, no trouble – switch 1/2, a bit under – 2.5, some crossed legs, nearly holds onto the stick, hop to the side
Rose – BB – switch mount to switch, good combo – fhs front tuck, step forward, keeps it on – wolf triple, solid – bhs loso loso, lean to the side wobble, keeps it on again – aerial, check – side aerial, little pause before split and straddle – 2.5 dismount, step forward.
Well, that was sure a collection of disconnected, scoreless gymnastics we saw. We’ll wait on the scores now, and the team, which is time TBD.
The same highest-scoring team of Rivera, Pease, Bullock, Blakely, Esponda from nationals seemed to reconfirm itself yesterday, but that still means you would have to leave a sure 6 tenths of D from Carey’s Cheng on the sidelines.
