2026 Worlds – Women’s Qualification Day 1 Live Blog

Today, we have the first three subdivisions of women’s qualification, starting with the US, Germany, and Romania in subdivision 1.

After doing only bits and pieces at podium training, Hezly Rivera withdrew from the US team with injury. She also had to withdraw from the worlds selection process in 2025, and from 2026 Pan Ams after vault. But I’m sure it’s fine. She’s replaced by traveling alternate Dulcy Caylor, who is slated to compete only beam. Claire Pease, Skye Blakely, and Charleigh Bullock will compete the all-around for the US.

Lea Quaas and Emma Malewski are in the all-around for Germany, and Blanaru and Iordache (not that one) are in the all-around for Romania. Tanasu is out of the team, Mihaescu is in for all-around as well.

Germany starts on vault, Romania on bars, individuals on beam, and the US on floor. Touch warmup up now.

Rotation 1

Blakely – FX – USA – back 1.5 to front full, simple start but hit, some soft knees, hop – double front is connected to stag – tour jete 1/2 to switch ring, lowish back leg in tour jete but fine – wolf 2.5ish – switch full, close – back 2.5, some legs, controlled step – 12.966 and a 5.1 D.

Malewski goes 13.033 for a FTY. The bars feed died as Romania was starting. Cotu went 13.033.

Yap – BB – switch mount to switch 1/2 to split, very nice – switch ring, large break and falls, sigh.

Bullock – FX – FTDT, chest down, hop forward – whip full through to double tuck, shuffle back – memmel turn – tour jete 1/2 to switch 1/2, hit – front 2/1, deep landing, a little soupy legs, with crossover step around – back 2.5, crossover step. 12.800

Quaas hits Y1.5 with step back. 13.500

11.466 for Blanaru on bars.

Mihaescu – UB – Romania – toe full, very past, won’t get it – maloney to pak is solid, good foot positions – van leeuwen, hit – short hs on high – blind to jaeger, closer but caught – double back, chest down, hop forward. A hit. 12.166

Pease – FX – USA – hits Moors, piked down, at the end, shuffle back – double double tucked, huge bounce back OOB – switch ring to switch 1/2 – back 1.5 to rudi is securely landed – wolf double, pulls it around – back 2.5, leg crossing, step forward. 13.333. 6.0/7.633/-0.3

Schoenmaier falls on second vault, maybe trying a Cheng, maybe a layout full? but not close to getting it and sits it down

Esponda – FX – USA – double double tuck, hop back, maybe stays in, good height – whip double lay is hit, bounce back – wolf triple and a little more, very smooth – front tuck through to double tuck instead of the barani combination that isn’t real anymore – tour jete 1/2 to switch 1/2, some short back leg – double pike, chest down, hop back. Solid hit overall. 13.633. 6.0/7.733/-0.1

Esponda still had a strong D despite having to change the composition. I think we’re all shocked that she didn’t get the 8.450 E score from nationals. Shocked, I tell you.

Guevara – BB – Honduras – front tuck mount is good, check – front tuck, very solid – side aerial with an arm check – switch, little pause before split and straddle jump – bhs back pike, step back and falls – it was going so wellllll –

Germany 40.632 vault, USA 39.932 floor, Romania 36.665 bars.

Rotation 2

Malewski – UB – Germany, piked jaeger good, little arch on hs, pulls it back – pak, nice – can’t get her toe 1/1 on low bar and comes off – redoes toe full in van leeuwen, small leg break – toe 1/2 to double front, good feet, step forward

Mihaescu hits a wolf double on beam, bhs loso, keeps it on with a wobble – sissone is good, connects to a full turn, small adjustment – side aerial very short, does some magic to keep it on the beam, big wobble – 1.5 dmt, hop forward. 11.866

Bullock – VT – USA – solid DTY with a hop back, good. 14.100

Schoenmaier on barshits tkatchev to pak, a short hs – toe on to van leeuwen, good – giant full – FTDT, holds the landing

Esponda also solid on DTY, good direction, hop back. 13.866

Blanaru falls on loso beam mount.

Blakely – VT 1 – USA – DTY, very large bounce back and off direction. Still got a 14.000, presumably for amplitude

Kevric – UB – Germany – inbar full to stalder shap 1/2, good – inbar 1/2 to piked jaeger, hit – solid hs on high – stalder tkatchev piked to pak, hit – van leeuwen, legs together well – FTDT, chest forward and a hop forward. very good. 14.766

Blakely hits Lopez 2nd vault with bounce back.

Voinea falls on her layout full attempt on beam. Side aerial, hit – into nice split and straddle – bhs layout 2 feet is strong – full turn – aerial, check – switch, pause before switch 1/2, good rise – strong landing on double tuck dismount.

Pease – VT – lands the Cheng successfully, ragged legs and a big lunge back, but a hit vault. 14.033. Same as the DTYs

Lovely legs together positions from Quaas on bars on transitions, late on a cast 1/2 – FTDT, landed with a light stagger and a hop.

Pease – VT 2 – very nice DTY, stuck landing, slight direction. 14.133.

Every vault is the sammeeeeeeeeee.

Iordache falls on bhs mount. Romania is going to get a better bars score than beam score.

Pease into first on vault for now, ahead of Blakely.

Alena Tan’s floor finishes up the rotation, comfortable double tuck with hop back – popa, little hop – 2/1, bounce back – tour jete 1/2 will get docked for lack of split – pulls around a wolf triple very well – front tuck through to back full, little hop

US on 82.065 after 2, Germany 81.330, Romania 73.297.

Rotation 3

Malewski good loso mount on beam – hits side aerial to bhs series well – switch to switch 1/2 to korbut, a little crooked but gets the connection – wolf triple is hit – sissone to wolf, hit – aerial, check – gainer pike, stuck like an NCAA gymnast. Nice one. 13.166

Esponda – UB – USA – short first hs – toe full to van leeruwen, solid, small leg break – yezhova with a straddle – maloney to gienger, low but hit – some short verticals – FTDT, chest down, step. Through it solidly enough. 12.966

Tanskanen vaults a hit Tsuk full, pretty big lunge back

Blanaru – FX – Romania – wolf triple, good – front loso through to double tuck, deep with a hop back – 3/1, under rotated, hops around at the end – switch ring to tour jete 1/2 – double pike, little hop

Bullock – UB – USA – front stalder 1/2 to inbar full to inbar shap to pak to van leeuwen, had to tuck the van leeuwen to catch, was a strong combo until then – inbar 1/2 to jaeger, nice foot position – FTDT, step back

Voinea – FX – Romania – double double tuck to front tuck is very high and comfortable – DLO to the most ridiculous arm wave jump attempt, 50 miles in the air, doing a raven-with-a-broken-wing leap – high popa – FTDT, a little deep with a shuffle back – switch – tour jete 1/2 with a hop, she goes for straight jump double, looked under on landing.

Just 12.900 for Voinea on floor. Can’t wait to find out whose fault that’s going to end up being.

Pease – UB – USA – front stalder 1/2 to inbar full to shap to tkatchev, close but fine – pak, hit, good height – stalder shap 1/2, good – toe full, a bit past, into double front 1/2 out, hop forward. 14.066

Mihaescu – FX – Romania – memmel – front double full to front tuck, legs, a little short, slide back – tour jete 1/2 with a hop – double pike, chest down, hop – double tuck, small movement back – nice split jump full – switch ring – split ring – good

Blakely – UB – USA – stalder full to Church, close but gets through it – stalder tkatchev pike to pak is clean – toe full to van leeuwen, small leg break – toe higgins to front giant to double front 1/2, little step back. 14.333 into 2nd behind Kevric.

Kevric – BB – Hermanu – hits switch mount into switch 1/2 to split and sissone, some feet on legs but good rhythm – bhs loso, secure – switch, check, no connection into side somi, little lean forward – double turn very nice – wolf double, hit – side aerial, smoothly done – 2.5 dmt, near stick, step forward. 13.633 currently leads.

Rotation 4

Bullock – BB – USA – bhs loso, very large break and another big wobble to keep it on the beam – switch to split jump 1/2 to bhs, low back leg on split 1/2 but gets the combo – switch 1/2, arm wave correction – side aerial, solid – aerial, arm wave – side somi, holds it – 2.5 dmt, hop forward. 13.033 for some big breaks is actually a great score.

Caylor – BB – USA – switch mount, hit – bhs loso loso, strong and secure – split ring jump, some position, hit – side aerial through to switch and sissone with a pause after the aerial – aerial to split to korbut – wolf double, smooth – bhs bhs double pike, deep but gets it with a hop. Had to finesse some combinations but very secure routine. 13.300

Voinea vaults a hit DTY, legs and a bounce.

Quaas – FX – Germany – split jump full, good and around – double tuck, little bounce, good foot position – wolf 2.25 – back 1.5 to front full, a bit low in amplitude but hit – tour jete 1/2 through to switch 1/2, tighter – back 2.5 with a large stagger stumble OOB, a couple steps

Blakely – BB – USA – neck roll mount – wolf triple is nice – back full, hit, step back to control – fhs to front tuck, keeps it on with a wobble, foot slide – front pike is secure – switch to switch 1/2, tentative on first switch but gets the combo – aerial to split to bhs – double tuck dmt, step back. Hit.

14.166 goes into the lead on beam.

Schoenmaier – FX – Germany – open FTDT, super high, but bounces back OOB – back 1.5 to front full, little hoppy – switch 1/2 – can’t get wolf double around, gets about 1.5 – switch ring to and tour jete 1/2 look solid – double tuck, couple small movements, keeps it in bounds

Pease – BB – USA – wolf triple, a little slow but comfortably through – switch to split, pause before onodi, small check – bhs loso loso, larger break, big leg up wobble, keeps it on – aerial to split to bhs full, large lean to the side – side aerial, nice – switch 1/2 – 2.5 dmt, hop forward. Fighting it throughout but stayed on.

Tanskanen on bars will finish out the rotation – toe full, nice finish position into maloney to pak – shaposh to gienger, low combination but catches it – jaeger, hit – double tuck, step back.

13.000 beam for Pease will be the dropped beam score.

Blakely finishes 55.465 in the AA, Pease on 54.432, Bullock on 53.499. Blakely and Pease will go through to the AA final. Very strong day for Blakely, top US score on bars and beam, hit her vaults, top US E score on floor, albeit with lesser composition.

Team score for the US is 164.529. Japan just got 165 and 166 at the Asian Games, so fascinated to see how those compare in the next rotation because this was overall a good hit day for the US women, save for a wobbly beam from Pease and Bullock’s tucked van leeuwen, which brought those scores lower than expected.

Germany a very useful 158.661 that will be the aim for others hoping to make TF. I thought Germany would be on the outside, but a stellar beam rotation gave them a competitive number today.

So the Dutch are really committing to this US cheerleader theme for the meet entertainment aren’t they? I see.

SUBDIVISION 2

Japan had decided we don’t deserve to see Nakamura on bars. She’s going only on floor. Sugihara, Nishiyama, and Kishi will all have a shot at the AA.

Rotation 1

De Wilde – FX – Belgium – split jump full, back leg a little under – front lay to front 2/1, looked like she just kept the step in bounds – very deep double tuck, a couple lunges forward – switch to gogean, not quite around – wolf turn – switch 1/2 – front full, some knees, hit. 12.233

Okamura – VT – Japan – Tsuk full is hit piking, little hop. 13.266

Scott finishes bars with a nice DLO full, step. 13.133

Vaelen – FX – Belgium – very high gogean, could get it – high double arabian, too high, lunge forward OOB – piked full in with bounce – switch – switch 1/1, good completion – popa – double pike, hop forward – double tuck, hop. 12.933

Nishiyama – VT – Japan – noooo, crunched DTY, tucks it and falls – it’s ruined. 12.233.

Ruby Pass can’t cast up on bars and has to stop against the bar before she continues weilering – also looks like she got lost in the air on her dismount and falls

Sugihara – VT – Japan – hits her DTY, chest down with a hop forward but lands it

Vansteenkiste – FX – Belgium – wolf double, around – switch 1/1, high – back 2.5 to front lay, possible step OOB – back 1.5 to front full, good amplitude, some knees – split jump 1.5 attempt, probably only gets full – switch to tour jete 3/4ish – double tuck, chest down, step back

Kishi – VT – Japan – also gets her DTY, a little short and under rotated with a step – 14.000

Kate McDonald also cannot cast up to start on bars and falls against the bar – I repeat, it’s ruined – does her usual after that, great tkatchev amplitude – FTDT, bounce back. Still goes 13.133 because could have been a 14.

Pihan-Kulesza – BB – fhs to to side somi, hits it with foot slide – aerial, arm correction – tour jete 1/2, gets it around – split jump to split jump full – thank you for giving us a different look – gainer pike full, step forward.

Stewart – UB – Australia – must-hit situation – toe full – maloney to pak, clean, nice – van leeuwen, leg separation – khorkina, hit – just a flyaway dismount. 12.700

Vieuxtemps – FX – Belgium – routine begins with phone ring and then somec harlie brown adult voices – 2/1, high, little bounce – front full, step forward – wolf triple, around nicely – switch – tour jete 1/2, good horizontal split – triple turn – switch 1/2 – double tuck, chest lower with a step forward.

Japan vaults 41.466 compared to the US on 42.133, having to count Okamura, which they will not have been planning, losing almost a point versus expectations. Australia in an early hole after two misses on bars.

Vieuxtemps gets highest E score on floor so far with 7.966. The recipe: do a clean 2/1 and perform something weird and broad with a lot of big facial expressions.

Teymurova will finish up the rotation on beam, switch mount is hit – switch 1/2, correction, holds it – bhs bhs loso and falls – aerial to split to korbut, solid connection – wolf double, stands up a little but around – side aerial, hit – side somi – sissone to wolf jump – bhs bhs 2/1, lunge back

Rotation 2

McDonald – BB – Australia – switch mount, hit – side aerial, nice – bhs loso, huge break and grabs the beam – aerial, check, no connection to korbut – wolf double, good – switch to split to bhs, good combination – 2.5 dmt, bound forward.

Sugihara – UB – Japan – good hs – toe 1/2 to jaeger, close but solid – short hs – toe full to pak, oooof totally off on timing and can’t catch, slams to the ground – hits dbl arabian dmt with step to the side

Us: This is Japan’s year!
Japan: Girl…

Vaelen gets her rudi around but it was not her usual, much formier with a lunge back

Pass – BB – Australia – switch mount, little pause in mount combination but hit elements – side aerial, good, smooth, high – fhs front tuck, check but holds it – aerial to split to straddle, check – tour jete 1/2 – wolf triple, hit – 1.5 dmt, hop. Good. 13.133.

McDonald missing her routines and still getting 13s is my religion.

Pihan-Kulesza has fallen a couple times on floor and looked like she couldn’t decide whether she was too hurt to finish her choreo but did.

Nishiyama – UB – Japan – inbar full to van leeuwen, leg break – jam to piked jaeger, high – pak – maloney to gienger, super close, works through it – FTDT, small step. Not her full D or cleanest but a hit. 13.933

Scott – BB – gets her switch mount to switch to straddle combo – layout 2 feet, secure – side aerial, hit – aerial, nice extension – kind of qquickly grabs the beam after her wolf double but sells it – front tuck, secure – double pike, step back. 13.866 into 2nd behind Blakely.

Vieuxtemps vaults a handspring pike 1/2 with a hop to the side. Vaulting a handspring pike 1/2? Facial expressioning up a storm on floor? Which NCAA coach is sneaking her into the luggage on the way back.

Okamura a useful 13.800 on bars for Japan.

Kishi – UB – Japan – maloney to stalder full to pak to stalder to van leeuwen, hits combo – shortish hs – jaeger, good height – giant 1/2, short – toe full to FTDT, deeper, with a step forward. Pretty good. We’ll see how they treat some of those vertical positions. 13.4 adn 7.6 E.

Stewart – BB – Australia – good switch mount – wolf double, nice – front tuck, a little short, step back – bhs loso, leg up check – switch, pause before switch 1/2 – aerial – side aerial, secure – split jump wolf jump – double tuck, chest down, step back. 12.966

Australia hits the final three beams and gets through with a 40 on beam, which beats Germany’s beam score by the slightest margin, but they’ll need to pick up a lot of ground on floor now.

41.133 for Japan on bars, loses another 8 tenths compared to the US.

Rotation 3

Scott – FX – Australia – DLO, hits, step back, stays in – front tuck through to 2/1, hop – finishes with a double pike, shorter with a hop

Nishiyama – BB – Japan – bhs mount directly connected to bhs loso is very strong – ahhhhhh wolf triple is so fast she wolfs herself off the beam, almost, holds onto the beam for a year and eventually pulls herself back up without touching the ground – high 2.5 dismount, bounce forward. 12.666

Pass hits open DLO on floor,

Vaelen – UB – Belgium – weiler 1/2 to maloney to hindorff, good combo – Church, nice distance, connect to pak, which she has to tuck – van leeuwen, good leg position – giant full – FTDT, lunge back

Kishi – BB – Japan – wolf double, good – side aerial to loso, holds it well – switch ring, pause before bhs, into split and straddle jump – side somi, nice and solid – aerial to split ring jump, check – double pike, step back

McDonald – FX – Australia – double front is short and falls, sigh, still give her a 13 please – front 2/1, hop forward – switch to tour jete 1/2, good positions – wolf double – memmel turn – switch ring – 2.5, step forward –

Lonngggg wait on Kishi’s beam score. My guess would be they’re having some ring credit decisions to make. 13.633 is a good number.

Sugihara – BB – Japan – switch mount, huge wobble and keeps it on the beam somehow – split ring leap is trouble as well, larger lean forward – aerial, split to straddle – bhs loso, check, really fighting it – y turn, overturns a little – side aerial, good – switch ring, check arm wave – double pike is very nice, little hop. Still gets a 13.

Stewart finishes up on floor for Australia, loses steam in final double tuck with a couple steps forward. They’ll have to count an 11 on floor.

Okamura – BB – Japan – loso mount is strong – tour jete 1/2, just a little under but solidly landed – wolf triple, comfortable – side aerial to loso, very good – aerial, pauses into split and straddle, adds an extra wolf jump to make sure she has a dance combo – switch ring, holds it well – split jump jump connected to bhs – 2.5 dmt, hop forward. That was the one.

14.266 puts Okamura into 1st on beam.

Despite a trouble rotation, Japan gains 4 tenths back on the US on beam.

Rotation 4

Nakamura – FX – Japan – wolf triple and a little more, good feet – whip full, doesn’t get the timing, continues through to double pike, gets it to her feet but short with a lunge – whip double back, hop – switch to tour jete 1/2 – back 1.5 to front full, step forward OOB – memmel, leans out of it some – back 2.5 to front tuck, low front tuck but again gets through it with it to her feet. 12.466

Scott – VT – Australia – clean FTY with a hop back, good legs together and direction. 13.133

Vansteenkiste hits front tuck mount on beam – check after switch before tour jete 1/2 – bhs loso, holds onto it –

Whitehead vaults a Yfull and looks to be gingerly walking after – this is the first we’ve seen of her today.

Kishi – FX – Japan – FTDT, good in the air, step back – front lay to front 2/1, slightly under, pretty controlled on the step – double L turn – triple wolf turn, leans her way through somewhat – double tuck, little hop back – switch ring, nice completion – split ring leap 1/2 is…sure one of those – double pike very short but does keep it to her feet with a lunge forward

Vaelen – BB – good switch mount – pause before switch 1/2 and straddle – side aerial to bhs, solid landing – side somi, large break and falls – finishes with a very deep double pike, lunge back.

14.033 on a DTY for Ruby Pass. That will finish the day for Australia, 156.228 team score.

Another very long wait for a Kishi Rina score.

Rooskrantz – UB – clear hip shap to bhardwah, hit, leg sep – toe full on low bar – tries a toe on, tries aagin and casts over and comes off.

Kishi got absolutely smeeeshed on that score. 12.466 and a 5.2 D for a hit. Feels like she got Fujitsued on that routine.

Sugihara – FX – Japan – double L turn – DLO, full OOB landing, tough to see on the stream – back 1.5 through to a high double tuck, nice control, just a little movement – switch ring – tour jete 1/2 ring, around – memmel turn, good – back 2.5 to front, good combo – double pike, little hop.

OOF. Just 13.100 for the defending champ. Got a solid enough E but .4 in OOB.

Daries – UB – toe full, a little past – maloney to geinger, hit – toe 1/2 and peels off on the downswing and falls.

Nishiyama – FX – Japan – back 1/2 to front 2/1 to front tuck 1/2, super fun combo but OOB landing with a hop forward – memmel, leans out – double tuck, rebounds back stagger – switch ring to hitch kick – pulls around wolf triple – back 1.5 to front full – back 2.5 to front pike 1/2, short with hop forward. Well, she went for the combos. We’ll see what they do with it. Lots of rough landings. She got a solid 5.8 D but just 7.066 E and a 12.566.

The verdict on floor so far at worlds has been “just don’t.”
Also don’t do a front lay because they’re probably going to call it a front pike.

Japan will finish on 161.630 after a rough day overall. Lots of opportunity to improve on that score, but none of the four went great, and floor was a serious concern with an E score apocalypse.

Team After 2
1. USA – 164.529
2. Japan – 161.630
3. Germany – 158.661
4. Australia – 156.228

AA After 2
1. Blakely – 55.465
2. Pease – 54.432
3. Kishi – 53.499
4. Scott – 52.698
5. Sugihara – 52.266

Pease leads vault, Kevric leads bars, Okamura leads beam, and Esponda leads floor.

Are we emotionally prepared for Italy? Too bad.

SUBDIVISION 3

Marano, Perotti, and Tonelli in the AA for Italy. Esposito on beam and floor.

Flores – FX – Mexico – wolf double, around well – double pike, little hop back, some leg separation – back 1.5 to front full, hop forward – switch 1/2 to tour jete 1/2 – back 2.5 with a bigger leg cross, crossover step. Nice solid start. 12.533

Rotation 2

Marano – BB – Italy – switch mount, wobble, pulls it together – bhs loso, lean correction – side aerial to split and straddle is well connected – wolf 2.5 – back extension roll – switch to split jump 1/2, back leg lower – double tuck is very short with a big lunge forward, but to her feet. 12.633

Clean FTY from Jimenez to start for Mexico, bounce back. Pineda follows with a hit FTY of her own.

Perotti – BB – Italy – switch mount to switch 1/2 to korbut, a ltitle slow in connecting but nice elements – bhs loso, great height – switch ring, just a small landing adjustment – aerial, check before split and straddle – side aerial, arm circle to control – teeters through a wolf double – double tuck dismount, near stuck, little hop. She’s on so far today. 13.833

Mordenti – UB – Lux – jaeger, hit – clear hip to pak, smooth connection – maloney to gienger, close but works through – toe on, loses form into toe full – DLO, shorter with lunge forward.

Esposito – BB – Italy – bhs mount to loso bhs, great – switch to split jump 1/2, good split, little check – aerial to split jump, solid – side aerial, comfortable – wolf triple, lovely – double pike, large bounce back but keeps it on her feet, on the beam it was excellent. 14.200 into 2nd. Mata starts Mexico with 12.433 on bars

Pineda – UB – Mexico – toe 1/2 to piked jaeger, pretty – toe on to toe full to pak, solid leg psotion – loses form in 1/2 turn on low bar – double pike, lovely stick. Mexico very competitive so far. 12.500

Esposito – FX – Italy – pulls around wolf triple – DLO, large bounce back OOB – switch 1/1, around, step back – memmel into illusion is strong – split ring leap to tour jete 1/2 is solid – 2.5 to front lay, a little under with a slide – double pike, some feet, bounce back, looks like she stayed in on that one. 13.233 just behind Pease into 3rd, ahead of Sugihara.
