Uncharacteristically, the quad turn graduates two whole tenths from the previous version of the turn—the triple—and as such, is an incredibly enticing E element for gymnasts to attempt in their routines.
At the same time, the gymnast who gets full credit for the quad turn with any kind of regularity or reliability is rare indeed. Mostly, these attempts get downgraded to the C-rated triple turn, which can totally destroy the intended D score. So it’s a risky game.
