Only slightly less popular than the front aerial, the side aerial reigns as another of the traditional—largely non-horrifying—beam skills of D value that everyone has to do because D score. It pops up in the majority of international beam routines from all countries, everywhere, all the time, and in general, it’s relatively inoffensive.

Unless the foot flexion is out of control. Or unless it suddenly decides to end in a squatty little side position when gymnasts try to pretend like they did a side somi even though they definitely didn’t. You just did a side aerial with some ugly added at the end.
