Gainer back handspring
Those of us with 1996 compulsory beam PTSD will be entirely too familiar with the gainer back handspring, enough to last a lifetime, though it is rather uncommon in modern beam routines. It does provide another option for a back handspring for those trying to squeeze as many connection tenths as possible out of throwing bhs onto everything, but as yet has not caught on.
The term gainer refers to a backward acrobatic element in which you gain momentum by moving forward to initiate the element. The telltale sign on beam is the lifting of one leg from the beam to begin that initial forward movement.
