Because why stand on your neck a little bit when you can stand on your neck thrice as much! The savviness of the way Moceanu (above) performed this skill—and others—is that she returned to a vertical handstand position with every half turn, which is not expressly part of the skill, before hitting split again on the turn. It’s both visually more intriguing and allows for generating the momentum to get back to a full split position each time, avoiding the potential problem of losing the split as you go and getting deducted unnecessarily for a mount that isn’t exactly worth a ton.
