About
There are several variations on a sideward roll in the code of points, mostly boiling down to the idea that if there’s hand support, it’s a B (0.2), and if there’s no hand support, it’s a C (0.3).
The roll through neck stand features hand support, so it wouldn’t be included in most modern beam routines for the purpose of value on it’s own. Still, we have seen a light increase in the number of these sideward rolls in recent beam routines as gymnasts search for ways to avoid an artistry checklist deduction for a lack of complexity in movements touching the beam. It’s something to do that isn’t just standing there, and if a gymnast were to dare not to have a wolf turn in her beam routine, this would even fulfill the turn/roll composition requirement as well.
