Anna Mirgorodskaya (UKR)

About
While the German giant is a favorite (ish) of men’s gymnastics, it has never caught on with any popularity in women’s gymnastics, and if the debacle that was Ivana Hong’s 2007 bars composition is any indication, it won’t be catching on any time soon.

This is the more valuable variation of the two Steinemann circle options, this one continuing through to a hang on high bar. In any of the modern incarnations, we’ve seen athletes begin with this Steinemann circle before continuing on (in a “well I’m already in this ridiculous position” kind of way) into a Li Li element.

While Li Li did initiate the run on these German giant elements several years before, her variations did not end in a hang, which is why this one gets to be the Mirgorodskaya.
