The Michigans come into this one twinning on the exact same season average through the first four meets, while Arizona has surprised thus far with its proximity to UCLA, sitting only about three and a half tenths behind.
Rotation 1
Michigan with their Vanessa Ferrari shoulder cutouts.
Guggino – VT – Michigan – Y1.5, good one, small hop forward, some knees. 9.875
Stephen – UB – Michigan St – toe on to maloney to bail, smooth – arch on bail handstand, pulls it back – also loose back in cast hs on high – FTDT, holds onto the stick well despite being a little forward. 9.850
Mulligan – VT – Michigan – just the yfull, good amplitude, lunge back, leg separation throughout. 9.825, meaning someone didn’t take anything for form.
Jackard – UB – Michigan St – hits first hs vertical – jaeger with a fall, pretty foot position but couldn’t keep her grips over – resumes cleanly, finishes giant full to double tuck, bounce back. 9.000
Morrison – VT – Michigan – Y1.5, pretty large lunge forward on the landing today, small leg break throughout. 9.875.
Remember last week when she did the same vault without a lunge for 9.800? Judges definitely all on the same page in this sport.
Zsarmani – UB – Michigan St – pak, good legs together – maloney to gienger, hit – DLO, small leg break, chest forward with a lean to hold the landing. 9.850
Wilson – VT – Michigan – Y1.5, also a lunge forward, not quite as big as Morrison’s but big, and off direction some. 9.875
Kellerman – UB – Michigan St – blind to jaeger, clean, good foot position – bail, legs together nicely – good feet in handstands – DLO, legs together, small slide back. Good. 9.900
Brooks – VT – Michigan – Y1.5, best of the bunch so far, small hop forward and then an additional arm swing to try to control though. Good. 9.875.
Fair score in reality, but now she got no separation from Wilson and Morrison despite being far superior. Brooks’ was a better vault—more distance, better leg position, no direction deduction—but they didn’t leave room to both score it in real life and rank the athletes correctly.
Nikki Smith – UB – Michigan St – good first hs – toe on to maloney to pak, legs good – just a couple small readjustments – DLO, comes in chest forward with a step ahead
Jordan – VT – Michigan – yfull, bounce back and not as much distance, some pike
Harkness – UB – Michigan St – toe on to gienger, huge, good – solid cast hs on high – bail, solid legs togther, maybe a bit of hip angle – FTDT, holds onto landing, very small rebound and some stagger. 9.925
Michigan State drops the fall and will take the lead after one rotation. Solid work from both. Michigan will be OK with the 49.3 on vault especially coming off last week’s score, but still lots of lunging.
After 1:
Michigan State 49.375
Michigan 49.325
Rotation 2
Michigan State changing the vault lineup, which has apparently never happened before, so it takes 9 months.
Schulte – VT – Michigan St – solid yfull, small bounce back, good distance. 9.850
Vore – UB – Michigan -toe on to tkatchev, hit, some feet – rushing some handstands – bail, hit – better final cast hs – DLO, small adjustment to hold onto stick. 9.875
Nyah Smith – VT – Michigan St – yfull, hit, chest down and a small hop back – clear pike throughout and a small leg separation. 9.750
Wilson – UB – Michigan – blind top piked jaeger, hit – hits bail – tight cast hs on high – DLO, not the most amplitude, solid landing. 9.900
Tucker – VT – Michigan St – solid y1.5, small step forward, some direction. 9.925.
Zabrowski – UB – Michigan – blind, a bit late into jaeger, hit, some flexed feet – rushes cast hs on high – pak, hit, small leg break – better final cast hs on high – DLO, holds landing with a lean correction. 9.825
Stephen – VT – Michigan St – big high yfull and good form but can’t control with a rebound and step back. 9.850
Morrison – UB – Michigan – gienger fall off the top, basically the same as Jackard, seemed like she was fine to catch but her hands slipped off – finishes DLO with small step. 9.125
Nikki Smith – VT – Michigan St – hangs onto a very nice stick on her y1.5, very small leg separation in the air – would have been a squat deduction last season, probably not this season, but she did kind of come in under, which you can still take for. 9.950
Bauman – UB – Michigan – good first hs – toe 1/2 to jaeger, high, connects to overshoot – rushes cast hs on high – double front dismount, pretty good body position, step back. 9.850
Kellerman – VT – Michigan St – handspring pike 1/2, gets the stick today. Good one. Should be a direction deduction but they haven’t been taking for that today (it’s not an OOB in/out, but they’ve been treating it like that). Not the distance you would expect for a Yurchenko vault, but expected handspring Sacramone distance. And it’s a 10.000.
Brooks – UB – Michigan – blind to piked jaeger,s olid – good hs on high – toe on to bail, good legs together and vertical – hits hs on high – DLO1/1, holds onto it with maybe a little rebound. 9.950
Huge 49.575 for Michigan State on vault to extend the lead. Michigan had already been 49.325 there, and MSU landed better on those last two in particular. Michigan gets through the fall for 49.400 on bars, similar to Michigan State’s rotation there.
After 2
Michigan State 98.950
Michigan 98.725
Meanwhile, Denver got three 9.975s on bars in the same rotation for 49.750. Four of the six routines got a 10 from one judge.
Rotation 3
Mulligan – BB – Michigan – full turn, hit – cat leap to aerial, keeps moving to bhs – beat to straddle jump 1/2 and falls – resumes with side aerial, arm wave – bhs tuck 1.5, step forward. 9.325
Beaufait – FX – Michigan St – front 2/1, good form, slide forward – switch ring to switch 1/2, maybe a bit under on switch 1/2 – back 1.5 to front lay, pretty leg position – rudi, under control – 9.900.
Guggino – BB – Michigan – big routine now, full turn, hit – bhs loso, nice amplitude, very small squeeze to hold the landing – straddle jump to straddle jump 1/2, big break, leg up and step back and lean – straddle 1/2s are the devil today – side somi, arms down quickly to control – bhs 1.5 dismount, step. 9.750. They took as little as they possibly ever could justify there.
Tucker – FX – Michigan St – rudi to loso, hit, just a bit of foot crossing in the rudi – like the double turn to switch we’re doing here, but a bit under on the switch position – front 2/1, around, under control well – 9.900
Wilson – BB – Michigan – hitch kick – bhs loso and another huge break, leg up to horizontal, turn to the side, arm wave, it’s a TIME on beam so far for Michigan – switch split jumps, good – double tuck dismount, chest forward with a step. 9.725
Michigan will be thankful they’re still in this rotation because they should be counting a couple 9.6s already.
Stephen – FX – Michigan St – front tuck through to double pike, lovely pike position, some rebound on landing – switch 1/2 to wolf full to straddle, great – front 2/1, a little slip-slidey on landing there, not too much stepping but slightly awkward. 9.875
Vore – BB – Michigan – bhs loso, hits securely – full turn, small lean – kickover, holds it – split jump, small pause before split 1/2, little leaning in combination there – 1.5 dismount, holds the landing. 9.925. They’re ready to go there if they vaguely stay on.
Meanwhile a man on the Pac-12 Network just used the word pride and didn’t immediately burst into gay, which is world shattering. I was led to believe that was not possible.
Harkness – FX – Michigan St – FTDT, around, slide back – switch to split leap full to wolf full, gets the turns around – front tuck through to double tuck, nice tuck position, controls the step back. 9.875
Bauman – BB – Michigan – full turn, good – bhs loso, right on – sissone to switch 1/2 to beat jump, looked a little tight on the switch 1/2 today – small balance correction on side somi – gainer pike, can’t quite hold onto the stick with a step back. And it’s still 9.950
Nikki Smith – FX – Michigan St – FTDT, chest a bit forward, so nearly hung onto a stick but then there was a step forward – nice leap combination – back 1.5 to layout, clean, layout a bit lower than the 1.5 – double tuck, good stick
UCLA underway with a good high yfull from Emily Lee with a bounce back. Mueller with a hop back on her DLO on bars for Arizona. 9.800 for Lee.
Anastasi is back to the yfull for UCLA today, large bounce back.
Brooks – BB – Michigan – bhs loso loso, looked right on but then a turn to the side and arm wave working out of it – switch to beat, solid – full turn, hit – another break on her kickover front, bend at the hips and a lean – bhs 2/1 dismount, small bounce. 9.800
Hargrove on bars for Arizona with a swim standing on the low bar. Rosen hits her Y1.5 for UCLA, small hop forward and a bit of knees.
Schulte – FX – Michigan St – FTDT, little rebound – switch 1/2 to popa to straddle jump, nicely done – front tuck through to double tuck, solid control – 9.950
Michigan somehow gets to 49.150 on beam despite four major struggles in six routines. Michigan State 49.500 on floor to keep 198 in the picture heading to beam.
Campbell is 4th on vault for UCLA, yfull, sticks again, a bit more direction than her usual, but you know that’s not real anymore. McCabe 4th on bars for Arizona, hits her piked jaeger, some loose body position in catching her bail, bounce back on dismount.
Maybe direction is real! Campbell goes 9.875 for her yfull. Can they call up the other judges and let them know?
Harris – VT – UCLA – 5th up, good y1.5, small hop forward, some knees. 9.875
Derr – UB – Arizona – toe on to Ray, hit, flexed feet – pak, very small leg break – FTDT, gains some direction in the air and then a bounce back. 9.875
Reed – VT – UCLA – y1.5, found her control today – very small movement forward. 9.950
Fears – UB – Arizona – nice tkatchev, good toe point throughout – bail, legs together, just a bit soft in body position on catch – DLO, small bounce back. 9.900
UCLA 49.375 on vault, a solid performance from their five counters that looked like it was evaluated in something vaguely close to the real world, so it won’t rank super high, but overall good progress in landing control, especially from Reed. Arizona 49.100 on bars, keeps pace.
Fourth rotation underway in Michigan with Kalefe on beam for MSU, she his a secure bhs bhs loso series, and sticks her gainer full, so interested to see where this starts them. And we start on 9.925
Bauman on floor for Michigan, good front 2/1, switch 1/2 to wolf full to wolf full, gets a bit out of control on final wolf turn – back 1.5 to front lay, clean position and good rise in layout. 9.925
Second rotation started in UCLA, Greever hits yfull for AZ with a bounce back, a bit more pike than UCLA’s fulls.
Campbell – UB – UCLA – good first hs – maloney to bail, small angle in catch on bail – blind to double front, cowboy, small step back on landing. 9.850
Tucker sticks her gainer full on beam for MSU in the second spot. 9.900
Esparza – UB – UCLA – back in the lineup this week – maloney to pak, smooth – a bit shy on cast on low – van leeuwen, hit – DLO, survives the landing with a lean forward and a bit of squat. 9.825
Good yfull from Martin on vault for Arizona in the third spot, fairly open position, small slide back
Rosen – UB – UCLA – maloney to pak, legs together, not the amplitudiest – hits cast 1/2 position low – a tad shy on handstand – DLO, whips it out with a big straddle but finds the stick. 9.925
Everything is also 9.9 for Michigan State and Michigan in the final rotation, especially wobbles and leg separations. Would be surprised if we don’t see a 10 in here.
Malabuyo – UB – UCLA – arches first handstand, can’t save it and falls immediately
Guggino third on floor for Michigan – front loso to double pike, controls it – switch side to popa, around, a little low – front lay to rudi, hit, some chest down position. 9.875
Frazier – UB – UCLA – now working against a fall up in the 5th spot – maloney to pak is clean – rushing handstands a little jhere – DLO, chest forward with a little hop and step-salute so should get the finish position deduction as well. 9.875
Schulte with an extremely solid beam routine up 4th for MSU. And it’s 9.950
Harris finishes bars for UCLA, good first hs – Ray, nice – excellent second hs – bail, legs together cleanly – perfect final cast hs – giant full to DLO, holds onto the stick, takes DLO a little too close to the bar with some body position on landing.
Morrison 4th on floor for Michigan, very good control on front tuck through to double back. 9.950
Harris gets 9.950 on bars to take UCLA to 49.425 there, which again they’ll take, but again it’s a rotation with a dropped fall.
Garcia – BB – MSU – up 5th, bhs loso is right on – she only needs 9.875 for a 198 today – aerial to split jump – switch to split, good extension – gainer full is fairly low but stuck. 9.925
Brooks – FX – Michigan – MSU running away with it but Michigna can still take advantage of today’s scoring if they keep getting millions on floor – FTDT, a little movement on landing – good leap positions – front tuck through to double tuck, chest up well. 9.950
Stephen – BB – MSU – aerial two feet, hit – full turn, hit – bhs loso, soft knee position and a wobble – beat to straddle jump 1/2, small lean correction – 2/1, can’t quite hold the landing with a slide step forward
Wilson – FX – Michigan – FTDT, good control – switch side 1/2 to popa, clear positions – front lay to rudi, under control –
And it’s a 10.000 for Wilson. The whole thing was leading up to that. Superior to all the 9.950s thrown out on floor so far.
Rotation 3 under way at UCLA, Lee with a good aerial to split jump on beam, smooth bhs loso series – swtich to straddle jump, nice straddle – stuck gainer full, very good start. 9.925
So it’s 198.050 for Michigan State to 197.625 for Michigan, the difference maker pretty much being that Michigan wobbled all over the place on beam and MSU didn’t really. A huge number for MSU obviously, though Michigan will also feel that they were sufficiently able to take advantage of this extremely, extremely loose scoring especially in the second 1/2 of the meet, for enough of a counting score.
Also Denver just finished on 198.000.
Rosen – BB – UCLA – up 2nd – switch to split to stag ring, leg up wobble, got low in the split jump position as well – bhs loso is secure – full turn quickly dances out of a potential correction – 1.5 dismount, step back. 9.750
Fears – FX – Arizona – following 9.850 for Deets – double tuck, bounce back, keeps it in bounds – switch side to popa, pretty positions I think, apparently it was more important to see the inside of her nostril instead of those leaps – rudi, uncontrolled rebound – back 1.5 to front full, controls the step. 9.850
Andres – BB – UCLA – beat to switch 1/2, good height – loso, secure, some foot flexing – kickover, connects into swingdown, good – full turn, small squeeze correction – 2/1 dismount, leg crossing, bounce back. 9.775
Strom – FX – Arizona – rudi to loso, pulls it around, a movement adjustment – switch to switch ring 1/2, solid ring position, bit of control – back 1.5 to front full, under control. 9.900
Harris – BB – UCLA – bhs loso bhs, right on – switch to split leap to full turn, fast enough to be connected – kickover, secure – 1.5 dismount, stuck. Very good. And it’s a 9.975.
Mueller – FX – Arizona – double pike, chest forward but controls it – switch side, overturns into straddle 3/4ish – back 1.5 to layout, lower amplitude – solid control on double tuck, chest up
Malabuyo – BB – UCLA – wolf single, a bit tight but fine – bhs loso, secure – aerial to beat jump – split to split ring jump, good – bhs gainer full, holds onto it. 9.925
Herry – FX – Arizona – double tuck, bounce back – switch 1/2 to popa looks nice – back 1.5 to layout, shows control on the step there, layout lower – double pike, nicely done, step up in form for the lineup and under control. 9.900
Alipio – BB – UCLA – aerial to loso, really nice feet in layout stepout – split leap to switch to beat, good – full turn with a correction – gainer tuck full, some direction, holds onto stick.
Hargrove – FX – Arizona – FTDT, controls the front foot – back 1/2 to front full with a slide – switch ring to split leap full, around – nice feet in double tuck, controls step. 9.925
UCLA goes 49.525 on beam to keep 198 alive given how floor is looking like it’s going to go here. Arizona gets 49.450 on floor to make a high 196 look realistic if they can get through beam.
We’re all agreed that you don’t need two minutes to walk to the next event when it’s 9 inches away, right?
After 3:
UCLA 148.325
Arizona 147.525
Rotation 4
Herry – BB – Arizona – full turn, slight arm wave – bhs loso, lean correction – side somi, hit – straddle jump to jump 1/2, wobble – bhs 1.5 dismount, hop forward. 9.775
Malabuyo – FX – UCLA – double tuck, good control – 1.5 to front lay, hit, a bit of legs in 1.5 – switch ring to switch 1/2, lovely split positions – double pike, a tad deep, controls the step. 9.925, big start. 49.875 rotation score incoming.
Mueller – BB – Arizona – side aerial to loso, hit, small hip correction – full turn, solid – switch, little shoulder drop before straddle jump – 1.5 dismount, stuck, some leg separation. 9.850
Andres – FX – UCLA – 2.5 to front tuck, really nice stick, nice high 2.5, front tuck not the very highest – double tuck, under control – more of a switch side 1/4 into straddle 3/4 rather than switch side to popa – switch leap – 9.925
Castles – BB – Arizona – bhs loso, pretty big break, leg up, lean to the side – switch to split leap – aerial to sissone, getting a bit low on some of these jumps – wolf turn, around smoothly with some light arm puppeteering – 1.5 dismount, holds onto stick with arm wave, some direction. 9.750
Rosen – FX – UCLA – DLO, hit, keeps front foot down – double pike, some chest forward, also under control – switch ring to switch 1/2, good positions – 1.5 to front lay to front tuck, just does keep it under control soft knee position. 9.950
Deets – BB – Arizona – bhs loso series, lean wobble at the hips – full turn, smooth – hits switch side – cat leap to kickover, arm wave correction – switch to gainer full, stuck. 9.850
Moors – FX – UCLA – front 2/1 to front tuck, steps forward OOB – loso side pass – switch to switch 1/2 to wolf full, lovely – rudi, good control. 9.725
Martin – BB – Arizona – split to stag ring, secure – bhs loso, another bend at the hips, pulls it back – aerial, controls it – full turn – 1.5 dismount, step to the side. 9.700
Harris – FX – UCLA – DLO, controls step, chest a little forward but one of her better chest position landings – split leap full to straddle full, great height and extension – double tuck, chest a bit forward, hop forward – 1.5 to 1/2 to double stag, hit.
Somehow 9.975 for Harris as middle passes don’t matter.
Fears – BB – Arizona – bhs loso, large break, arm wave swim and a leg up – side aerial, nice hit – split jump to stag ring, small lean – 1.5 dismount, great stick. 9.725
Reed – FX – UCLA – DLO, notable bounce back, just does keep it in bounds – no trouble on her split leap and wolf jump this week – front lay to rudi, solid hop to present.
And it’s 9.975 for Reed as well. Because why watch a routine when you can just FEEL the MOMENTUM and score that, instead of obvious errors?
UCLA goes 49.750 on floor for a 198.075 total. The theme of the weekend. Arizona another very useful mid 196 road score with 196.525.

I know Spencer doesn’t respond to comments here, but I’m not watching the Denver meet. I presume those routines weren’t 10 worthy?
Rumor on the gymternet says that (at least by 2024 standards) they’re on par with other 10s given this season
Is anyone gonna talk about the leg separation and flexed feet on MSU’s floor?
I’ve noticed this from a lot of teams this year. It never seems to be deducted and is so frustrating.
Spencer it’s cocktail time on Long Island, feel free to begin to consume if you haven’t already
It seems the question is if we going to get another 2004 where things hit such a ridiculous level that there’s a crackdown and if so how long until we do
Those last two scores on floor at UCLA…. I can’t.
