We have several teams on the schedule today who will be realistically looking to join the 197 club, which is already 7 teams strong—a record for the first weekend of the season.
This Ohio State quad should be an interesting one, particularly in seeing how Ohio State’s rise that began toward the end of last season might compare to Kentucky’s current level.
Tap tap tap we’re waiting etc.
OK, Ohio State, you took too long to start, so I’m watching LIU hosting Yale.
Koopman – VT – LIU – good direction on her yfull, bounce back, solid position
Aviad – UB – Yale – tkatchev, hit – a bit of body position on bail, small hip angle – giant full, some leg break there, connected into double tuck, stuck. Good start. 9.675
Loo – VT – LIU – Y tucked full, shuffle back, steps with both feet, solid direction again
Wilson – UB – Yale -solid vewrtical on cast hs – Ray to overshoot, nice amplitude – short cast hs on high – giant full, gets it around with small hesitation, solid vertical, connected into double tuck, stuck landing. Really strong routine.
Savino – VT – LIU – Just a little forward on Tsuk tuck full, small step, nearly found the landing.
Sabatini – UB – Yale – angle in first hs – clear hip to tktchev to overshoot, hit, some legs on overshoot – giant full, late finish into double tuck, stuck again.
Rickets – VT – LIU – much bigger vault on her yfull, but a large bounce back, some pike
Wang – UB – Yale – angle in first hs – jaeger, hit – bail, some angle but definite credit – just some vertical deductions – FTDT, chest forward, step.
Morris – VT – LIU – Yfull, good layout shape, medium bounce back, solid distance, best form of the vault lineup so far.
Walker – UB – Yale – blind to jaeger, good toes and position – bail, pretty solid – short final cast hs on high – DLO, comes up short, knees down
Clean yfull with a lunge back from Bedminster to anchor LIU’s vaulting.
Henry – UB – Yale – blind with legs into jaeger, solid – bail, just a bit short of vertical – again a couple handstands but overall clean position – pikes her double layout attempt, ends up overdoing it with a stumble back, a couple steps.
Ohio State’s quad meet is underway, the broadcast is doing only OSU, at least until the end of the first rotation, where we just saw Hlavach hit her full on back pike for a 9.800. Great stick from Edwards in the anchor position, yfull, big amplitude.
And she receives a perfect 9.950 for it. I thought she came in a little forward, but she held onto that landing well.
Oh, now it’s adjusted to a 9.925. WE TAKE IT BACK.
For Kentucky on bars, Worley finishes up for them with a hit, FTDT with a fairly large bounce back.
Ohio State opens up a noteworthy lead after the first rotation with 49.250 on vault to Kentucky’s 49.025 on bars.
Arizona gets 9.825 from Elena Deets on floor, bounce back on double tuck final pass.
Our first look at Greenville is a fall on beam on what looked like a split jump 1/2 attempt. Nice front gainer full dismount.
Hargrove – AZ – FX – FTDT, controls her front foot pretty well, good amplitude – back 1.5 to front full, also pretty well under control – switch ring to split leap full, a little slide on landing – double tuck, chest up well. Should be a solid score. 9.875.
I don’t know the Greenville athletes by sight yet and the audio quality here is unlistenable, but we just saw a nice loso series on beam. Switch is clean, split jump 3/4 just a bit under, back 1.5, hit, hop to the side.
Herry anchors for Arizona on floor, finishing with a clearly controlled double pike. 9.825 for her puts Arizona on 49.125 and ahead of Kentucky’s 49.025 after 1 rotation. Like the audio of this broadcast, the live scores are having a time.
Pritchard leads off bars for Ohio State – nice high gienger to overshoot – giant full to double tuck, little shuffle. 9.775
Harris – UB – Ohio State – Ray, solid – short cast hs after – bail gets to vertical, small amount of body position – gaint full, arches and can’t save it, goes over the wrong way and off the bars.
Edwards – UB – Ohio State – toe on to maloney, huge amplitude, connects to pak, lovely – a bit late on 1/2 turn on low bar – gaint full to double tuck, hop back. 9.859
Vetter – UB – Ohio St – giant full, solid finish, connect to tkatchev, high, foot flexing – bail, hit – solid toes on cast hs – FTDT, stuck landing. Good. 9.850
Riccardi – UB – Ohio State – toe on to Ray, solid positions – short hs – clean pak showing – good 1/2 turn position on low, toe point, well done – just some short cast hs – doubel tuck, bounce back. 9.825
Bailey Bunn returned for Kentucky on beam with a 9.825.
Miller – Ub – Ohio St – toe on to maloney to bail, very solid positions, good – good cast hs on high – DLO, nice open position, bounce back. 9.875
49.175 for Ohio State on bars.
We see Patterson finish beam for Kentucky with a gainer pike, large lunge forward.
Missouri/Illinois about to start, so I’ll shift main focus to that one, but keeping an eye on the Ohio State stream of Ohio State and the scores for others. Arizona went 48.925 on vault.
So that was a 9.250 for Patterson, so Kentucky will have to count a 9.725 on beam with two people left.
Worley – BB – Kentucky – cat leap to switch side, good height – aerial, connected quickly to a smooth bhs loso, just some slight leg position in that combo – good full turn – 1.5 dismount, small slide back.
Rotation 1 – Missouri @ Illinois
Takekawa – VT – IL – medium bounce back on her Yfull, solid distance, some pike – full seasick camera work
OMG it’s a dual meet and you’re not showing the Missouri routines????
Mueller – VT – IL – solid control on her yfull, looked like only a small hop back
OK now we’re seeing Missouri.
Patrick – UB – Missouri – blind to jaeger, hand slipped off on catching, didn’t come off but had a couple empty swings to keep going – bail is hit – DLO, good open hips, small slide. And that’s following a fall in the first spot.
Medium step back on yfull from Green from Illinois. Nice form.
Townes – VT – IL – very solid landing on her Y1.5, just a small hop forward and some knees in the air
We see some high fives from Missouri on bars, so that was helpful. We do know that Missouri will have to count a 9.225 on bars.
Clean full from Ward on vault from Illinois, good distance and layout position, lunge back.
Sheremeta – UB – Missouri – blind to jaeger, good toes, connected to overshoot – a bit shrt on final cast hs – dismounts with rudi that was out of frame, very fun. But looked hit. 9.775
Simons – VT – IL – looked like a comfortable full but did have a couple small steps back on landing.
Illinois has a hit yfull from Byrne in the exhibition spot.
Moore – UB – Missouri – toe on to tkatchev – love how we can’t see anything on the high barrrrr – FTDT, holds onto the stuck landing but a large lean to do so.
Hu – UB – Missouri – Church to pak, lovely – 1/2 turn on low bar, hit – handstand out of frame so we’ll assume it was perfect, giant full to double tuck, stuck.
Also the scores have stopped updating, obviously.
Meanwhile, Ohio State has 98.425 after 2, followed by Kentucky on 98.200, Arizona on 98.050, and we’re waiting on some final scores from Greenville on floor.
Missouri went 48.550 on bars after counting that 9.2.
Rotation 2
Ward – UB – IL – blind to jaeger, lots of leg form but hit into overshoot – 1/2 in front out dismount, little hop
Schaefer on vault for Missouri with a bounce back on her yfull, pretty large, some pike
Patricelli is up third on vault for Missouri and we see her smiling after vaulting, so a picture has truly been painted for me.
Borden on bars for Illinois, hits her jaeger to overshoot, good toe point on jaeger, maybe slightly crooked in the air – front rudi dismount, stuck landing, a little stagger. Nice.
McCrary – VT – Missouri – struggles to control her yfull, large bounce back and then an additional step salute.
Mizuki – UB – IL – good first hs – blind to piked jaeger out of frame – bail, slight hip angle in the air – giant full to double tuck, stuck landing.
Medium hop back from Schreiber on vault on a yfull for Missouri.
“The scoreboard says 9.885, but that’s not a score that’s possible”
Green – UB – Illinois – toe on toe maloney to pak, strong combination – pauses up to handstand on low bar, works through, late on cast 1/2 – giant full to double tuck, step back.
Davis puts up a 1.5 on vault for Missouri and I did enjoy how she tried to pretend she didn’t have a lunge back. NO ONE SAW THAT.
Takekawa – Ub – Illinois – good piked jaeger, bail handstand position looks solid – DLO, stuck landing, just a bit of pike. Nice.
O’Donnell – UB – Illinois – blind to jaeger to overshoot, nice foot positions – giant full to double tuck, step forward
We didn’t see Jocelyn Moore’s vault to anchor for Missouri, but at least we’re seeing all the exhibitions. Love this broadcast to the stars. But apparently she stuck. Fun fun.
Looks like it was a 3-fall bars rotation for Arizona for a 47.725.
Ohio State went 48.900 on beam while Kentucky went 49.275 on floor, so now Kentucky has taken over the lead with a 147.475 to Ohio State’s 147.325.
Schreiber is starting Missouri’s floor rotation – her typical rudi to two foot back layout…we assume… – front full to front lay to a little bit of a stag but fairly low – switch 1/2ish to split leap full – solid opening hit.
Meanwhile it was 49.050 on vault for Missouri.
Mizuki – BB – IL – following a 9.2 in the first spot – check on full turn – bhs loso series is nice – switch, pause before straddle jump 1/4 – cat leap to side aerial – split to straddle 1/4, so she will have a dance combination in there – gainer pike, holds a nice stick
Poddig – FX – Missouri – rudi to loso, somewhat off line – double pike, excellent landing control – switch 1/2 to popa to shushunova, comfortable
Borden – BB – IL – aerial, check, bend at the hips – repeats it, kind of checks into her front handspring but mostly keeps moving, with another check – hits her beat jump to sheep, another lean correction to hold onto it – front full, small hop.
Kratzer – FX – Missouri – double tuck, solid, small hop back – switch side to popa, good positions, a little overturned on switch side – 1.5 to front layout, control – double pike, chest down, controls step.
Green – BB – IL – bhs loso, lean to the side, some knees – switch to straddle 1/4, hit – beat to side aerial, foot reposition – 1.5, hop forward.
Sheremeta – FX – Missouri – 2.5, slide forward – switch side to popa, around – rudi to a well extended loso, nice – 1.5 to front loso, clean and comfortable routine
Townes – BB – Illinois – switch to straddle 1/4, some back leg on switch split – cat leap to kickover, large break, leg up to horizontal – bhs loso, hit – full turn, check – back tuck 1.5 dismount, pretty position, stuck landing.
Meanwhile, Worley finishes out the meet for Kentucky with a hit Y1.5, a couple small steps on landing.
49.050 for both Illinois and Missouri on vault. And apparently Illinois was .7 higher than Missouri on bars. Actually getting some scores?!?!?!?!
McCrary – FX – Missouri – front lay to rudi, , solidly done – switch side to popa, good positions – double pike, good in the air, chest a bit forward, hop.
Kentucky is done on 196.575. Ohio Stat eon pace to beat that with the current floor scores.
Takekawa – BB – Illinois – aerial aerial to bhs, covers pretty well not to show a check – full turn, nice – switch to straddle 1/4, pretty positions – gainer full, well stuck. Nice one.
Moore – FX – Missouri – big DLO, chest up – switch 1/2 to popa to popa, nice switch 1/2 position shown – front tuck through to double pike, a bit of a step. Nice routine.
Ohio State just got 9.950 on floor from Gagliardi in the 4th spot. Elexis Edwards goes OOB in the 5th spot. It’s still 9.750, which will be enough to clinch the win over Kentucky.
Hankins finishes on floor for Ohio State – opens with FTDT, very deeply crunched landing but did land it – front lay to front full is under control – switch ring to split leap full is comfortable – double tuck, stumble back but does keep it in bounds.
Hankins also goes 9.750, so Ohio State will finish on 196.775 and win by 2 tenths over Kentucky.
Mueller on beam for Arizona hits a side aerial to loso series.
One of the fun things I like is that the live scores for Missouri/Illinois now say that there were 18 vaults in this meet.
We see the end of Linton’s beam for AZ to finish up that Ohio State quad meet, hop back on gainer full.
Missouri went 49.200 on floor. Don’t have the Illinois total there.
McCrary – BB – Missouri – kickover, check – bhs loso, securely landed – switch, small hesitation into double stag to beat jump – gainer pike, chest forward, large rebound forward.
Knight – FX – Illinois – front 2/1, a bit deep, not large on the step – wolf jump full to switch 1/2, some back leg – double tuck, controls step back, chest up – 1.5 to front lay, right into the corner. 9.800
Lawrence – BB – Missouri – switch to split, check – side aerial to bhs, smoothly done – aerial, good form, small check again – 1.5 dismount, stuck.
Waight – FX – Illinois – double pike, good control, chest up well – back 1.5 to front lay, a bit too much of a bounce to pretend it was just a dance out – wolf hop full into split leap full, pretty much around, lower – double tuck, also well controlled. 9.875
Davis – BB – Missouri – bhs loso, nice amplitude, minor squeeze to hold it – kickover, small check – beat to sheep, small adjustment – switch to bhs gainer full, chest a bit forward, step. Good foundation of a routine there, just little things on everything.
Takekawa – FX – Illinois – rudi to split jump, mostly under control – double pike, large step back, looks like she kept she kept the front foot down – back 1.5 to front lay, the lay a bit lower than the 1.5 but controls the landing. 9.800
Sheremeta – BB – Missouri – beat jump – bhs loso, good extension shown – aerial to split jump to 1/4 shushunova, clean leg position in aerial – gainer tuck full, small hop. 9.875
Joelson – FX – Illinois – double pike, a bit large on the landing step – switch side to popa, solid amplitude – 1.5 to front lay, solid rise on layout – double tuck, controlled step, just some chest position. 9.875
Hu – BB – Missouri – korbut mount, lovely – aerial to immediate aerial to scale, smooth and lovely – beat to split jump 3/4, actual height on beat jump – gainer full dismount, just a bit low on that dismount with a fake-y stick that she almost held for long enough. Amazing on the beam. 9.950
Townes – FX – Illinois – high front 2/1, good amplitude, just some leg crossing – back 1.5 to front 1/1, controls the step – wolf jump 1.5, didn’t quite get the 1.5 all the way around – split leap full to popa
Schreiber – BB – Missouri – small check on full turn – bhs loso loso, strong – swtich 1/2 to split to loso, good splits, some arm wave after loso – beat to gainer full.
Mueller – FX – Illinois – double pike, controls her step – front lay to front full is clean as well – switch 1/2 to wolf full, around clearly – double tuck, chest a bit down.
Now maybe sometime in the next 9 months we’ll find out what the actual result of this meet was. Hooray!
Missouri 196.425
Illinois 196.275
