It’s a glutted Friday, and there will be a point tonight when all of the top 7 teams are competing simultaneously, so…enjoy missing everything! I can’t wait to find out what important developments I just barely miss looking over and seeing at the right time.
But first, we have Florida’s visit to Georgia, and we’ll see if this is the day when Florida breaks into that high 197 or 198 zone. Though Florida is ranked 8th, a 197.975 tonight would move Florida all the way ahead of Kentucky for 3rd (with, of course, everyone else still to compete), so it’s very tight in that zone still.
Cashman back on vault and floor for Georgia.
Rotation 1
LaClair – VT – Georgia – yfull, good amplitude, clear leg separation at the end, bounce back shuffle
Blakely – UB – Florida – rough form on maloney but caught it, low amplitude, some pike, just fingertipped it, connects to pak solidly – 1/2 turn on low, hit – toe on 1/2 to front giant to double front, overrotates with a large bounce forward. Strange opening and then struggled to control the dismount. 9.575
Going to assume that 9.950 graphic for LaClair is a typo and we don’t have another Chloi Clark last season situation. If it’s 9.850 that’s still very high. One judge went 9.900 which is wild.
Cashman – VT – Georgia – again solid height, pike throughout, bounce back. 9.775
Nguyen – UB – Florida – good first hs – maloney to pak, hit, small leg breaks – a bit rushed on 1/2 turn on low bar – good hs on high – DLO, step back. 9.825
Smith – VT – Georgia – yfull, cleanest layout position so far, hop back, not the amplitudiest yfull you’ll see. 9.850
Disidore – UB – Florida – maloney, good height into pak, solid combination – hits hs on low – van leeuwen, got it – short cast hs on high – some elbows in giants – DLO, holds onto it with a lean. Solid. 9.875
Scott – VT – Georgia – yfull, her best height so far, pretty large bounce back. Kennedy is like, “I cannot see a thing, you guys, did she have a small step back, oh it was a large bounce cool.” 9.825
Pilgrim – UB – Florida – good first hs – maloney to pak, not the smoothest body position with some piking but solid – nice 1/2 turn on low – really unhelpful closeup on handstand – FTDT, nice stick. Strong work. 9.875
Finnegan – VT – Georgia – hits her y1.5 with solid direction, medium hop forward, some knees. 9.850
Lazzari – UB – Florida – tkatchev, hit – toe on to pak, great height on pak – able to cast out of it smoothly, wasn’t sure if she was going to end up too close – FTDT dismount, maybe very small movement. 9.900
Wahl – VT – Georgia – large lunge forward on y1.5 landing –
Wong – UB – Florida – good first hs – maloney to pak, small leg break on pak – good hs on low – van leeuwen, legs together well – DLO, small slide back. 9.875
Florida goes 49.350 on bars, which is fine but not up at 198 pace, same bars score as last week. Georgia will be pleased with 49.150 on vault, a season high, though the scores give me some concern that any stick on a 1.5 for Florida now is going to have to be a 10 if you want to keep the range consistent.
Rotation 2
Draser – VT – Florida – good height on y1.5, some knees throughout, possible distance deduction, hop to the side. 9.900, yeah here we go
Howard – UB – Georgia – important return – good first hs – Church hit, a tad close, into overshoot – giant full to double tuck, absorbs it deep, holds onto stick. 9.825
Lazzari – VT – Florida – hits her y1.5 this week, medium hop forward, some soft leg position. 9.825
Wahl – UB – Georgia – hits first hs – maloney to pak, legs together – just a hip angle in some of these casts and pirouettes – gets the stick on her DLO. 9.875
Pilgrim – VT – Florida – y1.5, strong control, just small movement to the side/forward, bit of knees throughout – what do you even do with that if Draser was 9.9? But here we have a much better vault where you still need to take a couple things. 9.925, about right but now we have insufficient separation. Kennedy seeing that landing with her SEC goggles on.
Snyder – UB – Georgia – Church, hit into a high overshoot – some loose back in legs together cast – giant full to double tuck, good stick. 9.900
Blakely – VT – Florida – y1.5, best distance so far by quite a lot – bound forward. 9.850
Finnegan – UB – Georgia – good first hs – Ray, hit with flxed feet, too big and couldn’t cast out of it, casts to zero – has to try to cast again – pak, with leg break – FTDT, stuck. 9.550
Wong – VT – Florida – ro 1/2 on pike 1/2 – OK, has some direction this week, with a bounce back and then an additional slide salute. Didn’t hold the finish position. 9.925 is high. Shouldn’t have been able to go above 9.850.
I almost feel like having the landing lines has made direction judging worse because it’s being treated like an on/off switch now like OOB, but that’s not what the rules are. It’s supposed to be a spectrum of deductions based on severity.
Having the elite center line also would help so you can clearly see when both feet are landing to one side of the center line, aka off direction.
Scott – UB – Georgia – Ray to pak, well done – van leeuwen, hit – shy on final cast hs – DLO, holds onto landing with a quiver. 9.900
Ferris – VT – Florida – y1.5, wayyyyyyy high on the table, large bound forward. 9.850 so it’s still a counter somehow.
Smith – UB – Georgia – good first hs on low – maloney to bail, very high maloney, bit of an angle coming into the bail landing this week – FTDT, stuck. Bail wasn’t quite there for me, the rest was great. 9.950
Both teams go 49.450 in that second rotation. A better vault rotation for Florida, with six hit 1.5s and you weren’t worried for your life at any point. As expected, very forgiving evaluation after the precedent set by the previous rotation. Georgia able to drop Finnegan’s bars. Having Snyder and Howard in there now provides a lot more optimism for how this lineup can be.
After 2:
Florida 98.800
Georgia 98.600
Rotation 3
Wahl – BB – Georgia – bhs bhs loso, secure landing – full turn, slight hesitation – side somi, controlled well – beat jump to split jump 3/4, also secure, a bit under split – 1.5 dismount, hop forward. 9.775
Draser – FX – Florida – front tuck to double tuck, controls step, knees apart – wolf double, around clearly – switch ring to switch 1/2, hit – some soft foot position here and there – double pike, around, controls the step again. 9.800
Morgan – BB – Georgia – jump to split mount – bhs loso, hit, loses some leg position in the layout stepout – sissone to switch 1/2, tight, wobble with leg up – side aerial, hit – 1.5, some leg separation, bound forward. 9.875 is…wait what.
Nguyen – FX – Florida – front 2/1 to sissone, hit the connection today, a bit of legs in the air – switch ring to switch 1/2, pretty – y spin full, not a lot of time spent in y but around – 1.5 to front lay, good rise in layout. Nice one. 9.900
Turner – BB – Georgia – full turn, hit – bhs loso loso, hit – switch to split, good split position, small lean on landing – 1.5 dismount, finds the stick, a bit low with some legs. 9.825
Hurd – FX – Florida – front lay to rudi, her best rudi control this year, keeps the front foot down – switch ring to switch 1/2, very good – double pike, a bit forward, chest down. 9.900
Battle – BB – Georgia – full turn – split jump 1/2 from side was under split with an arm wave – switch to split – kickover, quick connection to beat jump – bhs loso, step back with front foot and a little arm waving to control – bhs gainer full, solid height, holds landing. 9.825
Pilgrim – FX – Florida – front tuck to double tuck, legs apart in tuck and a shorter landing today with a step forward – split leap full to jump full to jump full, a bit of travel at the end – double pike, controls step, leg separation. 9.850
Smith – BB – Georgia – aerial to bhs, slide back with front foot – swtich to split leap, left her back leg behind her a little bit on that split leap in combo – kickover pike, leannsssss to the side to hold it – full turn, check – gainer full, stuck. 9.875
Blakely – FX – Florida – front tuck through to double pike, rebound up in place with some chest forward – switch to switch ring 1/2, good height – back 1.5 to front full, gets it to her feet – 9.825
Scott – BB – Georgia – hits full turn – front handspring, wobble, no connection – now to bhs loso, hit – aerail to split jump to bhs, smoother connection – split leap to switch, lovely positions – fhs to front full, little shuffle forward. 9.900. Large wobbles on front handsprings are option deductions.
Richards – FX – Florida – DLO, hit, leg separation – switch side, overturns a little, into popa, hit – back 1.5 to 1/2 to straddle jump, arm wave to try to control. 9.825
Meanwhile, we’re underway at Utah and Oregon State. I’m slightly concerned by the early vault scoring as Zirbes landed super deep on her Y1.5 with a lunge back off the mat and still went 9.775. Oregon State will want to drop a 9.725 opening bars from Beeman with a close catch on her piked jaeger.
Glynn – VT – Utah – up 3rd, pretty large lunge forward on y1.5 with some knees bending throughout for 9.875
Devries – UB – Oregon State – following 9.850 for Briones – maloney to pak, hit with some leg separations and she clipped the mat swinging through after that pak – DLO, good layout position and height but overrrotated it a bit with a shuffle back. 9.700
Smith – VT – Utah – solid Omelianchik, good direction, hop forward. 9.925, sure.
McMillan – UB – Oregon St – good first hs – toe on to maloney, ever so small leg break – lovely vertical on bail handstand – DLO, some piking throughout, holds onto landing with lean. 9.850
FYI, Florida is only up .100 on Georgia, heading to beam while Georgia goes to floor.
Rucker – VT – Utah – hits her Y1.5 this week, usual small hip bend and legs apart – lean forward on toes to try to hold the stick, ends up hopping forward. 9.975 with an obvious non-stick, I have been assassinated again.
Thompson – UB – Oregon St – short cast hs on low – maloney to pak, good legs together position in pak – short cast hs on high – DLO, nearly finds the landing but ends up with a little step back and another bit of movement. 9.850
Gilstrap – VT – Utah – yfull, good height and distance, small leg break at the end and some knees, bounce up in place. 9.925 how.
Carey – UB – Oregon St – maloney to bhardwaj, hit – usual leg break in the maloney – FTDT, some feet, hop back
Some of the most nonsensical scoring of the season for Utah’s vault there for 49.525. These judges think SO little of these gymnasts and have such low standards for them. Oregon State goes 49.175 on bars with 9.900 for Carey leading the rotation.
Draser has opened beam with 9.850 for Flordia, followed by Blakely who has a small arm wave correction on her switch 1/2, otherwise hit. Bounce back on gainer full. 9.925
LaClair is up 2nd for Georgia on floor, needing to get rid of a 9.700 for Williams now – front full through to 2/1, under control, some soft knees – switch side 1/2 to straddle jump – rudi to loso, pulls out the layout stepout, lower amplitude in there. 9.825
Pilgrim – BB – Florida – bhs loso, secure landing, just a tad low – full turn, smoothly done – beat to aerial, same as the series, smooth, good position, a little low – switch to split leap, hit – bhs gainer full, high, good stick. 9.850
Fitzgerald – FX – Georgia – rudi to loso is hit, gets a little crazy in direction – switch side, extra 1/4 turn, into a wolf full – double tuck, bounce back. 9.825
Lazzari – BB – Florida – bhs loso loso, hit – switch to split, elegant leap positions – aerial, leg up in wobble – gainer full, stuck. Very nice. 9.925
Cashman – FX – Georgia – back 1.5 to front lay, hit, under control, lower amplitude – switch side 1/2 to popa, ish – double tuck, just a bit deep, controls her step
Nguyen – BB – Florida – onodi, little lean shoulder drop in combination, sure they won’t do anything about it, but it’s there – switch, also small pause before sissone, lovely split positions – 1.5 dismount, deeper, slide to the side. 9.775
Wahl – FX – Georgia – FTDT, bounce back –
Isn’t it weird how Utah gymnasts can stick bars dismount even without someone standing in there right in front of the judges and screaming and pumping his fist? I thought that was ReQuIrEd. Anyway good stick from Morgan.
Buckner gets her Y1.5 for Oregon State today, some knees and leg separation at the end, some direction, not quite a stick but more than Rucker’s. And it’s 9.950 so at least we’re consistent??
Wong finishing Florida’s day on beam and she misses her foot on her switch split mount and ends up straddling the beam! I assume the judges will credit it as a switch-split-swingdown-mount for a 10.
Thompson vaults a yfull for Oregon State, tried to stick, chest down, hop forward.
O’Keefe is following a miss from Zirbes on bars in the 5th spot – maloney to pak, hit – hesitation in cast on low bar – does 1/2 turn up to high – a bit shy on cast on high – double arabian dismount, hop forward.
Esposito finishes vault for Oregon State, yfull, medium bounce back
Lily Smith finishes Georgia’s floor with 9.925 to get them to a huge 197.300 home score. Florida wins the meet but with just another 197.425, which is the same as last week and another
O’Keefe with 9.575 and a 9.8 start value. No LA turn credit? But if you destroyed her that much on her improvised 1/2 turn, the total score would be lower.
McCallum finishes bars for Utah – maloney to pak, catches slightly close on her pak with a form break but connects to stalder and shap 1/2 – FTDT, holds onto landing. 9.950
Utah counts the 9.575 for O’Keefe to go 49.050, evening out the craziness a little in the end? Utah on 98.575, leads Oregon State by just .050 after two.
Link for the Alabama live scores is fixed at the top. Alabama drops a big stumble from Shania Adams on her Y1.5 to go 49.225 on vault, tying Kentucky.
O’Keefe’s score is now up to 9.675, so Utah’s on 49.150 on bars.
LSU had a super long delay before Bryant’s vault on an Arkansas bars score issue, but how she goes, near stick, small slide back. 9.975. We LOVE a 10 for a non-stick don’t we folks.
LSU vaults 49.525. Brock did exhibition today, just a full.
Morgan opens beam for Utah with a hit, step forward on gainer front full. Briones up first on floor for Oregon State, hits her rudi to loso, good split positions – double pike, chest down, step forward. 9.725
Smith – BB – Utah – following 9.825 for Morgan – hits candle mount – hitch kick to aerial to split jump, connected, a bit low on split jump – bhs loso, solid again, some knee position in bhs – switch split, better position than her split jump – gainer full, holds onto landing with a lean forward. 9.850
Miller – FX – Oregon St – mistimes her back 1.5 to front lay, has no height on the lay attempt and sits it down –
Meanwhile, Shania having a tough day for Alabama, goes over on a handstand on bars now, so they’ll be counting a 9.750 from Lacoursiere in the first spot.
McCallum – BB – Utah – hits candle mount – wolf triple, very smooth – wolf double, more teetering but hit – bhs loso, secure – gainer tuck full dismount, stuck. 9.925
Makenzie Wilson with a very similar vault as last week, just a bit of a lean for 9.950.
Gonzales – FX – Oregon St – front full to front lay, solid – switch 1/2 to 1/2 sissone – double pike, hit, some knees, chest forward.
Paulson – BB – Utah – beat to side aerial loso, quick arms up to cover, just a small correction – switch to split jump, good – full turn, hit – gainer full, stuck. 9.925
The coverage of the OU, Cal, Arizona State tri-meet looks like it’s going to be a little…what is happening?…but we’ll see. We’re going to be cutting away from routines to see Arizona State it seems, so tough to live blog.
Kiya Johnson with a stuck DLO in the third spot on bars for LSU, they have a 9.775 from Cowan they’ll prefer to drop. 9.900.
O’Keefe is up 5th on beam for Utah – switch to split leap, lovely – side aerial to loso, secure – full turn, very nice and smooth – gainer full, holds onto stick.
And it’s a third 10 of the season for O’Keefe.
Meanwhile we have a stuck double tuck for Perea on bars for Cal and she goes 9.975.
Also meanwhile, Bryant was totally set up for a 10 on bars for LSU but stepped back on dismount. They didn’t take anything else, so 9.900, and LSU goes 49.550 on bars and is about to score a 199.
Ragan Smith goes 9.950 on floor for Oklahoma in the third spot. Frazier goes 9.950 for Cal in the 5th spot.
Gilstrap is finishing beam for Utah – aerial, hit – bhs loso, great foot positions, small lean – small correction before her split ring jump in combination – gainer full, stuck.
Anaya Smith with a good landing on her Y1.5 for Arizona State, just a little back on her heels. And she goes 9.950.
Tough finish for Oregon State on floor as Garcia puts her hands down on her final pass, meaning they’ll be counting a fall there.
Love a graphic over Faith Torrez’s floor routine, but she finishes with good control on a double back. Cal went 49.525 in the first rotation on bars, though Oklahoma on pace to pass that. Equals it with a 9.925 from Torrez, Bowers yet to go.
Malie O’Keefe eating a stroopwafel after getting a 10 dot gif.
Bowers finishes floor for OU, hit double pike, slight movement on landing – good completion on leap combination, lovely extension.
And Bowers goes 9.975.
After 1:
Oklahoma 49.650
Cal 49.525
ASU 49.275
Elsewhere Ella Burgess also touched her nose on the mat leaning forward to stick her beam dismount for Alabama for 9.875, so that’s what’s up there.
Utah is on 148.200 after three events so will expect a big 197 here still.
Rotation 4 is underway in Utah
Esposito – BB – Oregon St – switch to standing switch split, wobble – pause before loso with a lean – bhs loso, hit, small lean – 2/1, hop back
We’ve started the second rotation at ASU, Scheible lands deep on vault again for Oklahoma with a lunge forward. 9.675. Li starts Cal on beam with 9.875.
WHOA. Big break from Luisa Blanco on beam, step back on her series to grab the beam. This comes after a fall from Adams.
Levasseur holds onto the stick on her y1.5 for Oklahoma, little lean.
McClain is up on beam in the third spot for LSU, hits her aerial to bhs, smoothly – wolf jump is excellent – side aerial, no trouble – gainer full, stuck. She’s like, “This routine is so easy you guys, I can’t believe you don’t get 10s every second.” 9.975.
9.650 beam for Blanco with the beam grab. Alabama goes 49.100.
And it’s another 10 for Worley on floor. Now that they gave one everyone’s like, “Oh we do that now?” Kentucky 49.525 on floor. Kentucky now a pretty large lead on Alabama going to beam.
Oklahoma another lungey vault overall for a 49.250.I saw Bowers with a short landing on hers with a step back.
Also LSU’s team record is 198.375, and you’re going to need to watch out for that.
We see a partial beam for Frazier for Cal, holds her dismount stick with a lean forward to control.
Young is 4th up on beam for Oregon State – aerial, a little slow but keeps moving into back tuck, leg up wobble – full turn, hit – split jump to split ring jump to beat is hit – front gainer full, stuck.
Bryant has a lean wobble on her front on beam for LSU, so that one can’t be a 10. Just the 9.950.
Fall on her FTDT for Rucker on floor for Utah, they have three huge scores before her.
Lauzon lands her 2/1 on beam under control for Cal. 9.950.
Perea will finish the beam lineup for Cal – hit wolf turn – kickover to back tuck, connected – switch to split to beat – side somiu to back tuck 1.5, small hop forward.
Finnegan finishes beam for LSU – bhs loso loso, large leg up wobble for 9.900.
LSU goes 49.625 on beam. Perea goes 9.925, so Cal gets 49.575 on beam for the lead over Oklahoma and ASU.
O’Keefe 5th on floor for Utah, bounce back on her opening double back – 1.5 to layout is clean.
LSU needs 49.700 on floor to set a new program record, which seems fully doable based on today.
Carey finishes the day for Oregon State on beam – aerial, small lean, keeps moving into straddle jump, little check – bhs loso, solid – switch, small pause before switch 1/2 – which is back in the routine – gainer full, little rebound in place.
I feel like it’s a smart move for her to go back to the switch 1/2. Sure, I’ll complain about hip squareness deductions, but clearly no judge is going to care.
Speaking of, O’Keefe goes 9.950 on floor.
McCallum anchors floor for Utah – FTDT, bounce back, keeps it in bounds – switch to split leap full to popa – front lay to rudi, didn’t get the most punch into that rudi but enough to complete it fine.
All the Utah teammates are like, “10 HANDS” and Grace’s face is like “Better not be.”
9.900 for McCallum, Utah 49.550 floor to go over 49.5 on three events. Final is 197.750, which is going to end up feeling low if the pace continues for LSU and Cal and Oklahoma. Oregon State had to eat that fall on floor so it’s a 196.100, which is a missed opportunity for a high road score.
Meanwhile, beam fall for Bailey Bunn in the third spot. Kentucky has 9.875 and 9.800 from the first two.
Sears is third on floor for Alabama, just does pull around her DLO, but chest forward with a step – I really like the amplitude she gets into her front tuck in combination. Not an afterthought.
Patterson 4th BB for Kentucky, good amplitude on bhs loso, secure landing – overdoes her gainer pike dismount some with a hop back.
Kayla Lee with a smooth beam for Arizona State until her sheep jump, which deserves credit for being a real attempt, but a large leg up wobble. Step back on dismount.
Oklahoma has a leadoff 9.950 on bars for Sievers and Levasseur back to back and Cal starts floor with 9.875 for Williams.
McClain with a good DLO on floor for LSU, switch leap full is around – just a little too slidey on front full in combination. But it doesn’t matter apparently for another 9.975. Get ready. Nearly had a leadoff floor 10 there.
Torrez third on bars for Oklahoma, holds onto the stick on her DLO with a lean. 9.875
Davis on bars for Oklahoma now following three 9.950s but we don’t get to see it. Don’t worry it was 9.975.
Lauzon sticks from 2/1 to front tuck on floor for Cal – switch ring to switch 1/2 is nice, but we cut to Sarah Clark’s beam for ASU, nice bhs amplitude on a bhs bhs loso series, secure – steps back on stag ring.
Was wondering if we would see a 10 for Magnelli finishing beam for Kentucky after 9.950 for Worley, but she wobbled on her full turn.
And we have a bars 10.000 for Bowers as Oklahoma goes 49.825 there, tying the record.
Magnelli went 9.900 on beam to see Kentucky finish on 197.575 and take the meet. Hudson finished floor for Alabama but had a chest down landing on her double back with a step forward. So 9.900. Alabama done on 196.975.
Andi Li 5th on floor for Cal – double tuck, slide back – double y split, leaning out of it but looked around enough – front full to front lay, step looked controlled – switch to switch ring 1/2 –
And we’re now over to White on beam – lovely closure on stag ring jump – bhs 1.5 dismount, step back.
Finnegan 4th on floor for LSU hits her double arabian but kind of isn’t able to stag out of it, very low jump position, so we’ll see what they do. JK it’ll be nothing, but we’ll see what they do. Lovely 2.5 to front tuck. 9.925
Cal falls two tenths behind Oklahoma with a 49.425 on floor.
Bryant in the 5th spot on floor for LSU hits her double front under control, switch to very high switch full – front lay to rudi, good rise into rudi, under control. Well someone just gave Finnegan 9.950 for a jump with negative amplitude, so…
And we have a 10.000 for Bryant.
So that’s a tied program record for LSU before the last floor routine.
And some for you too Arkansas! Park gets 9.975 on beam with a lean on her series.
Johnson finishing floor for LSU – FTDT, landing under control – back 1.5 to front lay, nice layout position – switch 1/2 to popa – double pike, smallest rebound? I expect a 10.
9.975. Apparently they think they’re not giving away the game if they scatter in a 9.975 here and there.
LSU’s 198.475 is a program record and the 14th highest score ever for anyone ever.
We’re underway in the final rotation at Arizona State, good 1.5 to layout from Lee in the leadoff spot – a little low on amplitude on her switch rig 1/2, so the landing caught up on her, rudi solid.
Williams slightly awkward on her yfull on vault for Cal, chest forward and a couple small steps and an arm wave to hold onto it. Davis sticks her beam dismount for Oklahoma. 9.900 for Davis. 9.775 for Lee, 9.700 for Williams.
Gregoire – FX – Arizona St – wolf hop full, a but of knee in the extended leg – FTDT, solid, some leg separation – switch side 1/4 to popa, lower split position in popa – rudi to a high loso, good. 9.850
Wells finishes beam with a stuck 1.5 for Oklahoma. And it’s 9.950.
Lovely stuck yfull from Cesario for Cal for 9.875. Mayhew follows, a little under on y1.5 with a step back. 9.850
Smith – FX – ASU – double pike, chest forward some, a hop to present – front full to front lay, hit under control – split leap full to popa, around – double tuck, chest forward with a bounce
Bowers with a balance check on choreography on beam, just to make sure they don’t give a 10 to every routine, hop on dismount.
Near stick for Frazier on her DTY for Cal, she goes 9.925, followed by a stick for Lauzon for 9.950.
Silver vault anchor for Cal, y1.5, another with a step back and some knees. 9.825.
Cal goes 49.425 on vault to end up with another 197.950.
Torrez for OU sticks her gainer full beam dismount and goes 9.975.
I REALLY wish we were seeing a bit more of these routines so I could have more viable complaints about these scores!
Mangahas 5th on floor for Arizona State – FTDT, under control, some flexed feet and chest position – front tuck to double tuck, same, a bit deep and some feet, landed solidly – good foot and completion on the turning wolf jumps. 9.850
Levasseur also has her sticking on, stuck gainer full on beam for 9.925.
Scharf finishes for Arizona State on floor – front tuck through to double tuck with a bounce back – front full to front tuck, a little steppy – switch side to wolf full, around – double pike, chest down, step forward. 9.875
Ragan Smith steps back on her gainer full for only a paltry 9.900, so Oklahoma will stay the same on beam.
FINAL
Oklahoma 198.375
Cal 197.950
Arizona State 197.250

I can already tell it’s going to be a thong night for FL, esp Sloane.
That vaulter hopped on her landing. How did she get a 9.95 (perfect score)?
She didn’t. ESPN messed up and posted the wrong score. Honestly, the network’s cheaping out and not sending crews to the arenas makes everything so much worse. The commentators would have announced the correct score if they were there. They could also attend a practice and warm up and actually learn the names of the gymnasts.
I’m glad for increased coverage, but ESPN quality is declining as the quantity is increasing. We don’t need the same points to watch and basic rules each meet. They don’t explain the point of basketball or football at the beginning of each game. I mean imagine if they said “so the point of the game is to get the ball in the basket and teams will do that by dribbling the ball, passing, and then shooting. The team with the most points will win.” The guy tonight at UGA/UF literally said the team with highest cumulative total will win at the end of the night. Like no shit. That’s how most sports work.
Agree.
Apparently Florida has been on bars and UGA on vault for 2 whole rotations….
I find it interesting that ESPN put John & Kathy on NC State @ Clemson. If they’re going to put those two together, I’d have expected it to be on one of the SEC meets. They’re definitely talking through more basic stuff, but since Clemson is new, I don’t mind. (They also generally know when to shut up)
Agreed!
I would also like to remind ESPN that it is 2024 and you don’t need a man in every broadcast booth. You can have two women broadcasters. I mean they seem to understand the concept when putting together broadcasting pairs for football and basketball. They don’t hire a woman for each booth in those games. Thus, they don’t need a man with no gym knowledge to commentate. There’s no reason you couldn’t have Kennedy Baker and Aly Raisman together. I have no issues with Bart and John, and I also like the guy that works with Olivia Karas on the Big Ten. Those guys have knowledge of the sport and/or seem to do their research (although Bart only really knows Oklahoma and the biggest couple of names per team).
Anyone else think we won’t see Florida in the final four at NCAAs ? Even the top eight is not looking great.
I think they make it to Nationals because they are hosting regionals this year (although not a given). If they weren’t hosting, I honestly don’t think they would qualify.
Also, Spencer saying “any stick on a 1.5 for Florida” ; as if Florida can stick a vault.
Meanwhile, the vault at the LSU meet can’t be adjusted, so Aleah is just standing around waiting after KJ’s vault.
Did anyone hear the announcer for Fla/Ga call Morgan Hurd – Leanne Wong???? OMG
Yep. Corrected himself immediately, but still.
I didn’t catch that – whew! I thought Kennedy corrected for him….there were a few blunders from different announcers tonight…..yikes!
Maile okeefe had multiple landing issues on floor. Had her at a 9.8. 9.95? This sport is becoming unwatchable.
The sport is watchable, the judging is just in major need of an overhaul. But NCAA judges are the bottom of the barrel for judging, the best judges stay in developmental.
The only thing people do at this blog is whine. If this sport brings you so much despair, DON’T WATCH IT.
You are whining about comments you don’t like in your comment about not whining.
I think the comments about ESPN are valid. The network needs to up their game when it comes to women’s sports. The gymnastics meet coverage is amateur compared to what they put out for other sports.
People bitching in other sports led to replay review and rule changes. It’s not always a bad thing. This is an internet comment section. There’s good and bad. If you want it to be more positive, then be the change you wish to see and post something positive.
HA! So says the hypocrite.
