Florida has dropped just behind LSU after LSU’s 198 on Friday so will be looking to break that 197.4 mark to get back to 2nd. Utah is probably set for 4th this week unless things get really wild one way or another, while West Virginia is like, “if that’s a 9.975, we’ve got to be like 9.825 right?”
“For the Utahs.” Let’s go.
Rotation 1
Looks like Zirbes is back to the floor lineup for Utah.
Blakely – ub – florida – maloney to pak, small leg break on maloney – nice hs – toe 1/2 – double front, cowboy, holds stick but with an arm wave. 9.875
Glynn finishes fx with clean 1.5 to front ly, not the highest but good layout position. 9.850
Pilgrim – ub – florida – good pak – toe on to van leeuwen, legs together – shorter hs on high – ftdt, stuck. 9.925, we’re not starting subtly.
Tuohy – vt – wvu – yfull, step back, pike, but fine
Zirbes – fx – utah – front 2/1, just a tad under, controls the step – switch and popa, solid – back 1.5 to front full, a bit off line with some knees but hits it and just stays in bounds, and looks like no breathing problems this week 9.825
McCusker holds the stick on her dlo on bars, leg separation, but seems like she’s figuring it out. 9.900
Nelson – vt – wvu – like the patience to initiate her twist on yfull, bounce back, feet, pike
Skye Blakely – ub – florida – good first hs – ricna to pak is hit – gets hs on high – past on 1/2 turn, double front 1/2 out, step forward. 9.825, minimum .150 on dismount, so one judge took only that
Winger finishing on floor, a little under on split leap full position – 2.5 with a crossover step and oob. 9.675
wong – ub – florida – maloney to pak clean, hits van leeuwen – dlo, small leg break, stuck, good one. 9.925
Harris – ub – florida – hits ray, bail, little pike in the air but good vertical – slightly past full turn on high – dlo, little pike, another good stick. 9.900
Smith – fx – utah – frot 2/1, under rotated with crossover step – finishes with controlled rudi to loso. 9.900 quite high for that first pass.
Florida maximizes the sticks through that rotation to get to 49.525.
Gilstrap – fx – utah – front lay to rudi, great rise, a little leany to try to hold landing under control and then scoots – can hit her leap positions – front lay to front full, good control there, a bit of knees. 9.875
McCallum – fx – utah – ftdt, slide back, foot position, but chest up comfortably – front tuck through to double tuck, solid control – wolf double – switch to split full, around. 9.925
Not the most comfortable landings in the world there for Utah through the first four spots, got some forgiving evaluation in places but will trail Florida.
After 1: Florida 49.525, Utah 49.375, WVU 48.575
Rotation 2
Zirbes – vt – utah – controls landing on y1.5 mostly, small step to the side, some knees. 9.775
Draser – bb – florida – bhs loso, secure with some feet – switch to switch 1/2, hit, little pause in between – 1.5 holds stick with little shoulder dip
McCallum – vt – utah – good height on y1.5, less controlled step forward and a little sideward- still gets 9.850
Clean full from Gilstrap in the third spot, little pike, little movement, fine. 9.800
Blakely – bb – florida – aerial, little teeter into bhs but keeps moving – split to switch 1/2 to beat, secure – comfortable full turn – gainer full, holds stick
Smith really good stick on Omelianchik for Utah.
Leigh ub wvu – close catch on jaeger but works through it, holds the stick on dlo with deep knees.
So the speedo swimmy boys in the crowd is an everywhere thing now.
Glynn lands short on y1.5 with step back. 9.800
Pilgrim with a very small adjustment on loso series – aerial is comfortable – switch to split leap, good – gainer full, holds stick. still waiting on scores there. Everyone has been fine but with a small checky something so far
Morgan gets y1.5 on vault for utah, medium step forward and some knees.
Nguyen – bb – florida – hits onodi to bhs combo smoothly – switch to split jump with a wobble – 1.5 dismount, step forward. 9.800
Utah 49.225 on vault. Everyone pretty steppy and some knee form except Smith, who nailed it and saved the rotation.
Lane – ub – wvu – jaeger, hit with foot form, connects overshoot – hs on high is short – dlo, big bounce back
Wong – bb- florida – the switch mount is outta here – switch to split leap is clean – aerial to split jump with small lean correction – bhs loso series secure – gainer tuck full, bounce back. 9.900 too high for me for the wobble and landing
Harris – bb – florida – bhs loso bhs, right on, bit of feet in loso, good point in bhs – switch to spit is solid – full turn, overturns a little – kickover, saves it, was pretty far off with both feet and a big leg up wobble – 1.5 dmt, short with a slide back. Will be the drop score.
Still don’t have the first two scores for Florida’s beam. I’d say it should be lower 9.8 for Draser and 9.900 for Blakely? We’ll see.
Looks like they did go 9.900 fir Blakely. Don’t see Draser’s nuber, bu we have a 49.325 rotation total to extend the lead. Stayed on but more tentative teeters than their normal.
Now it’s 9.875 for Draser and a 49.350 beam. 98.875 after 2, nearly 3 tenths up on Utah.
Rotation 3
Nguyen – fx – florida – front 2/1, gets it around to sissone – switch ring to switch 1/2 – ooof, struggles on 1.5 to lay, has to tuck the lay significantly and lands deep. 9.650
Sith with a short dmt landing on bars for Utah, chest well down, lunge forward. 9.750
Pilgrim – fx – florida – back 1.5 to 2/1, step under control, some leg crossing – falls out of y spin some – front tuck to double tuck, chest down, step forward. Early floor struggles for Florida. 9.700 will count.
Good form from Padurariu through releases. 9.850
Glynn – ub – utah – maloney to pak, small hip angle in the air solid hs on high – stalder to double tuck, step forward. 9.825
Clark – fx – florida – dlo another struggle, short, chest down, jarred landing – split leap full, good rise into popa – front through to double tuck, slide back. 9.800, and kind of gets away with a 9.8
Morgan – ub – utah – maloney to bhardwaj is hit, sight moment of rhythm – van leeuwen – stalder tuck 1/2 dmt, not high but finds the stick. 9.875
Blakely – fx – florida – ftdt, little bit of leg form, good control on landing, chest up – switch 1/2 to spit full is around – 1.5 to front full is comfortable, gets florida back on track. 9.950 and we’re popping off now.
Zirbes ftdt dmt on bars, chest down, small step
Brown – bb – wvu – bhs bhs loso, lean correction – switch to composed pike jump, nice – 2/1, holds onto it, chest down
Wong – fx – florida – dlo, big bounce back, leg up choreography cover as she leans to hold it, stays in – lovely straddle positions – back 1/2 to front full, controls dance out. 9.925 quite high for that dlo
Adams – bb- wvu – aerial, just keeps going into bhs loso, secure landing – beat to split jump, little pause before split 3/4, lean – gainer pike, little hop.
Harris – fx – florida – front tuck to double tuck, chest down – switch side 1/2ish to straddle jump – back 1.5 to 1/2 to double stag 9.925
Like Utah, Florida kind of gets bailed out from a not-great rotation there to get to 49.300 and match Utah’s rotation score.
After 3: Florida 148.175, Utah 147.900, WVU 146.250
Rotation 4
pilgrim – vt – florida – hits y1.5, a little uncontrolled, looked like it was going to be a small slide but ended up with a medium step forward
Padurariu – bb -utah – double wolf – aerial to bhs, keeps moving – hits sheep jump, sticks dismount
Ly Bui little hop forward on y1.5. And a 9.925.
Blakely follows Bui with a wild mistake, only does a y 1/2 into a forward roll. Not sure what happened there.
Pronouncing Padurariu is this guy’s waterloo.
Winger – bb – utah – bhs loso loso, lean correction at the end
Wong pulls it back together on vault, very small movement back, otherwise clean. 9.925
Ferris – vt – florida – y1.5, medium step forward/sideward. 9.825
Harris finishes the meet for Florida with a good stick on her y1.5, knees and some hip angle. 9.950
Smith – bb – utah – bhs loso is secure – aerial to spit to straddle 1/4, tighter on split positions – gainer pike, stuck
Florida ends up on 197.575, which will be enough to get back to the #2 ranking.
Morgan – bb – utah – bhs bhs loso series is solid – switch 1/2, under split into beat jump – full turn, smooth – front gainer full, holds stick with lean forward. 9.900
Waiting on a couple beam scores again.
McCallum – bb – utah – hits candle mount – wolf triple, smooth – wolf double, hit, maybe a little arm focus – bhs loso, secure, flexed feet – switch to split leap – check on choreography – gainer tuck full, little rebound. 9.925, we’re getting wild on beam to end this
Smith – fx – wvu – ftdt, chest down, bound forward – switch 1/2 to popas, a little under – front lay to rudi, not the highest but good control
Gantner finishes beam for Utah with 1.5, little step back. Utah will get a usable road score, come up just short of Florida on 197.425.
Maness – fx – wvu – back 1.5 to layout, under control, bit of leg softness – switch ring to a lower switch 1/2 – rudi, chest down, keeps the step moving backward. 9.800
FINAL: Florida 197.575, Utah 197.425, WVU 195.475
On to Cal and NC State. Jordan Kane out for Cal. Newman-Achee in on bars, Scanlon on beam, Taurek on floor.
Rotation 1
Adler – vt – nc st – solid height on yfull, comes in deep in the knees with a slide back. 9.750
Lauzon – ub – cal – pak, clean – toe to van leeuwen, small leg separation – ftdt, holds stick. 9.925 is a big start
Wright – vt – nc st – yfull, has the distance, medium bounce back. 9.775

After 1: Cal 49.350, NC State 49.050
Cal’s bars didn’t quite live up to the quality of the beginning of the lineup in the dismount department, but a fine 49.350. A little more pressure on vault now to be a higher score than it has been. Good amplitude on NC State’s vaults to get over the 49 mark there.
Rotation 2
Williams – vt – cal – yfull, good height and direction, medium bounce back. 9.825
Adomaites – ub – nc st – maloney to pak, legs together – shy 1/2 turn on low – stalder to double tuck good stick. 9.825

Lauzon – vt – cal – y1.5 is solid, little hop forward. 9.875
Hadrick – ub – nc st – small back position in first hs – bit jaeger to overshoot co bo – solid hs on high – deep ftdt landing with hop forward. 9.825
Brown – vt – cal – replaces wiley to make sure they get a hit rotation – yfull, solid, small rebound, little pike. 9.800
Harper – ub – nc st – big arch on first hs, pulls it back – hits gienger – good hs – legs together well on bail – solid hs on high – dlo, little hop. 9.850
After 2: Cal 98.425, NC State 98.225
Weaker vault score for Cal there with the Mayhew fall, up against it to try to get a ranking-helpful number now.
Rotation 3
Adler – bb – nc st – bhs loso, little lean correction – hts full turn – switch to straddle 1/4, tight switch position – side aerial chest low but does well to hold onto it without a check – cat leap to switch side – gainer full, stuck. 9.800

Cesario – fx – cal – ftdt, hit, some chest position and foot slide – switch to switch ring 1/2 – back 1.5 to front lay, solid height in second element. 9.875
Childs – bb – nc st – bhs loso, good feet and security, to beat jump – switch to straddle 1/4 – kickover is a little low but pulls it out with a small quiver – gainer full, holds onto landing with chest forward. 9.750
Frazier – fx – cal – front tuck through to double tuck, big bounce back, ready for dlo? – switch to split ring full to sissone – back 1.5 to front full, little rebound dance cover. 9.850

After 3: Cal 147.825, NC State 147.300
Cal should get over 197 with a hit in rotation four but would need a big ol’ beam to get the kind of score that would keep pace with the top teams at this point. NC State en route to a very helpful home score.
Rotation 4
Cesario – bb – cal – bhs loso, secure – switch to switch 1/2, little adjustment, lower front leg – 1.5 dmt, little hop. 9.825
Adler – fx – nc st – good height on rudi to straddle jump – switch side 1/2 to straddle, doesn’t quite get switch side 1/2 all the way around – front full to layout, lower layout, has to wrench that around. 9.800
Williams – bb – cal – wolf single – aerial to split jump, good aerial form – bhs loso, smooth – switch, wobbles, does split jump and has to add a wolf jump after to get her dance combo, shorter wolf jump – gainer full, stuck. 9.775
Hadrick – fx – nc st – front lay to rudi, good control – switch 1/2 to wolf 1.5, better attention to rotating that 1.5 on the way down than most – back 1.5 to layout, controls step. 9.850
Mayhew – bb – cal – bhs loso, holds it – switch to switch 1/2, secure – 1.5 dmt, hop. A little tight but definite improvement there. 9.825
Zultevicz – fx – nc st – back n2.5 to front tuck, lower front tuck but shows control – split full to wolf full, around, lower on wolf position – double tuck, chest down, slide back. 9.750

Knight – fx – nc st – front 2/1, good punch – a little shy on first split leap full – rudi to smooth loso. 9.925
Scanlon – bb – cal – wolf single – bhs loso, secure – switch to switch 1/2 to beat, also secure – 1.5 dmt, stuck. She was like, “the plan was to be injured for 115 years and then do a perfect beam.”
9.950 competitive debut for Scanlon.
negrete – fx – nc st – double pike, step back oob – 1.5 to front lay is hit – switch 1/2 to split jump full – doube tuck, shorter landing with step forward. 9.800

I know there are issues w/ conferences, but having UCLA visit MD and FL and Utah visit WVU is nice in that it exposes the athletes from the less-popular teams to local gym fans. Hopefully it helps build their fan bases.
Can we please get a different beam angle? I’m afraid I’m going to see Sloane’s cervix!
Obsessed with Jenny’s sweatshirt OMG
She looks great.
Judges cheating for Florida. No way Leanne deserved that 9.925 on floor with 2 hops on first pass and no way on vault with a hop with both feet. Scoring still corrupt.
Agreed. That was some serious nonsense. And shame on BBS for being complicit.
BBS has been purchased by the SEC. Used to be unbiased. Now is absurd. We all see the nonsense. Never going to the website again. Viva the rebellion.
Cal is NOT messing around on bars tonight
Okay I guess I take this back lol
Thank you NC State!!! Finally a leotard today that can accommodate a sports bra, even if it would have to be a non-racerback style.
OMG Spencer – I am watching the UCLA press conference with Chae, Jordan, and Brooklyn. At 6:42 you can see Jordan opening snacks under the table and she starts eating mid presser. Not sure if you can include that in the GOTW but it’s pretty funny
Update: I think they are sour gummy worms? lol
Mya and emJae’s vault scores in comparison to similar from other recent meets…..
Honestly, their vault scores seemed fair for non stuck vaults. Compare Chio of LSU and Lauzon’s vault. They both had small hops and both went 9.875.
This is my point about Spencer! Leanne was way overscored on floor and he simply calls it leg choreography but if she was on UCLA and did that he would hammer her and call the score one of the worse of all time—
