| 5:00pm ET/ 2:00pm PT | Penn State Final [1] LSU [8] Michigan State [9] Kentucky [16] Arkansas | SCORES | ESPN+ |
| 7:00pm ET/ 4:00pm PT | Utah Final [4] Utah [5] UCLA [12] Minnesota Denver | SCORES | ESPN+ |
The Penn State regional went according to the ranking plan during the semifinals, which is allegedly supposed to give us the most exciting regional final, with LSU going 198.100, Michigan State 197.625, Arkansas 197.550, and Kentucky 197.525.

Individual scenarios! In the semifinals, the all-around went Stephen, then Finnegan and Chio, then Roberson, so it will be one of them depending on who qualifies as a team.
On vault, it went Stephen and then Sophia Diaz, and since Stephen would go as the all-arounder if Michigan State doesn’t qualify, we know Diaz is in for nationals for vault. On bars, it’s Stephen, Carly Bauman and Maddie Jones tied for the lead, and Maddie Jones takes the tiebreak over Bauman, so she’s through (and then if Arkansas goes as a team, it’s Bauman).
On beam, it’s Magnelli, Finnegan, and Komoroski tied, with Magnelli taking the tiebreak over Komoroski if it comes to that. On floor, it’s Brose in first, and then if Kentucky goes through, we have Finnegan, Chio, Roberson, Waligora, and Jones all tied for the next spot, where Waligora owns the tiebreak win.

Harkness – FX – MSU – ftdt, a bit deep but secure – double tuck bounce back. 9.850
Procasky – VT – Kentucky – yfull with a bounce back today. 9.800
Cowan – UB – LSU – good js – ray to overshoot, solid – small back position in high bar handstand – DLO, step forward with chest lean. 9.875

Park – BB – Arkansas – good full turn – bhs loso, secure, slightly soft in knees – gets switch to switch – side aerial to 1.5, stuck with knees. 9.875
Beaufait – FX – MSU – opens with punch rudi, intended front 2/1, bounce out turns after landing to show that it was a mistake – switch ring to switch 1/2 to wolf full – back 1.5 to lay is under

Magnelli – VT – Kentucky – hs pike 1/2, medium bounce back. 9.850
McClain – UB – LSU – good hs – church, perfect distance from high, connects to pak – good hs on high – ftdt, chest forward, stagger on landing with an adjustment and a step. 9.850

After 1: LSU 49.450, MSU 49.425, Arkansas 49.400, Kentucky 49.250
Arkansas and MSU beating their NQSs in that first rotation, Kentucky dropping back but we expect vault to be the event where most teams drop back.
Forgiving judging for errors (9.850 if you make a mistake) and only deducting for landing steps have been themes through one. Looks like Chio, McClain, and Bryant only got deducted for dismount steps and nothing else. Fine with that for McClain though because that was actually perfect.
Rotation 2
Tucker – VT – MSU – y1.5 good stuck landing, just some knee, maybe direction. 9.925
Rizo – UB – Kentucky – jaeger, solid – legs together on bail – short hs on high – DLO, chest down and lean to hold it. 9.800
Ballard – BB – LSU – bhs loso, arm wave to control – sissone under, into switch 1/2 – kickover is solid – 2/1, holds stick, small lean and leg form. 9.900
Gamiao – FX – Arkansas – double pike, chest forward but secure – 1.5 through to 2/1, little rebound – double tuck. 9.850
Doyle – VT – MSU – nearly finds the stick on her y1.5, hop forward and a leg separation in the air. 9.850
Riegert – UB – Kentucky – hits hs on high – blind to jaeger, good leg form – clear hip to bail, legs together – giamt full a bit past, sticks double tuck. 9.900
Coen – BB – LSU – aerial with some knee, into beat ju,mp – bhs loso, secure, did well to pull it back on the loso since bhs was off to the side – switch to split, low on split still but probably her best positions today – 2/1, stuck, some leg crossing. 9.925 is…quite a lot though
Klein – FX – Arkansas – front through to double tuck, a little deep with slide – switch side 1/2 to straddle – front lay to front full, leg separation in full. 9.850
Zsarmani – VT – MSU – y1.5, goood form in the air, hop forward. 9.925
Chio – BB – LSU – bhs mount, hit – bhs loso, solid – switch to split, good – good aerial into her split jump – 1.5 dismount. Good one, better than the 9.9s we’ve seen but not a 10, so not much room to score it. They give it the only thing you could 9.950
Procasky stuck DLO on bars.
Lang – FX – Arkansas – double pike, huge bounce back OOB – bounce back on double tuck but keeps it in
Smith – VT – MSU – great stick on y1.5. 9.950
McClain – BB – LSU – switch to switch 1/2, great positions, holds it, covers possible lean – aerial to bhs is smooth, good front knee – full turn, hit – wolf jump, good – side aerial – gainer full, a little pike, holds landing. Really just dismount form and amplitude there. 9.925,
Rivelli – UB – Kentucky – jaeger to overshoot is nice – DLO, chest forward, hop forward –

Finnegan – BB – LSU – bhs loso loso, right on – switch to split, very nice – pulls out her aerial – gainer full, holds it – 9.950
Waligora – FX – Arkansas – front 2/1, a little underrotated with crossover step – split full and wolf full, around well – back 1.5 to layout, hit
SKW – UB – Kentucky – blind to piked jaeger to overhoot, good distance from high bar on catch – hits hs – DLO, chest forward, hop
Roberson – FX – Arkansas – DLO, chest up well, controls the step – switch side, overturns slightly into popa, high popa – front loso to double tuck, stuck landing. 9.950
After 2: LSU 99.125, Michigan State 99.075, Arkansas 98.900, Kentucky 98.700
Separation emerging there for LSU and Michigan State after their 49.600 rotations. Great Michigan State vaulting, also showing us the highness of today’s scores because I don’t think it was quite as strong as their 49.600 vault at UCLA this year. LSU over 49.6 on beam, a rotation scoring showing us that good normal solid college beam routines and historically epic beam routines are just the same thing I guess and deserve the same scores.
Rotation 3
Weaver – VT – Arkansas – yfull, good open, little bounce back. 9.875 comparatively high
Doyle – UB – MSU – good first hs – blind to piked jaeger, hit – toe on to pak, good legs together – hits hs on high – goant full, good finish into double tuck, but ends up with an arm circle and a step back. 9.825
Rodriguez – BB – Kentucky – hits bhs bhs loso with knee form – 1.5 dmt, good stick. 9.925
Coen – FX – LSU – front 2/1, just gets it around – front lay to front full, solid, some knee – split leap full to popas, around – 9.850
Lang – VT – Arkansas – yfull, good stick, just some direction – 9.900
Brose – BB – Kentucky – front tuck, good height – kickover to bhs, hit – 1.5 dismount, good stick. 9.925
Beam went high to start for Arkansas and now everything is over 9.9.
Stephen – UB – MSU – maloney to bail, good legs together – hits hs on high – FTDT, stuck. 9.950
Ballard – FX – LSU – DLO, good control, pike down at the end – switch full is a little underrotated into sissone – 1.5 to layout, under control . 9.900
Essenpries – VT – Arkansas – y1.5 with medium step forward and some knee form. 9.825
Lee – BB – Kentucky – bhs bhs loso right on – switch to straddle 1/4, shows split, holds landing – 1.5, stuck. And we have another 9.950.
Zsarmani – UB – MSU – maloney to pak, smooth – arches hs on high, pulls it back – DLO, small teeter movement on landing. 9.900 a bit high there for me
Klein – VT – Arkansas – hits y1.5, hop to the side and knee form. 9.825
McClain – FX – LSU – in the floor lineup today – DLO, hit, chest down at the end – switch ring to switch 1/2 are well done – back 1.5 to front full, no trouble
Bennett – BB – Kentucky – bhs loso loso, solid – aerial with a bigger wobble break out of it, leg up – switch, little hesitation into beat – gainer pike, good stick. 9.775
Smith – UB – MSU – toe on to maloney, good height into pak, smooth – nice stick on her DLO. Oh boy 9.975 here
Roberson – VT – Arkansas – ro 1/2 on layout 1/2 with lunge back
Drayton – FX – LSU – DLO, grat height, does pike down to control at the end – switch ring and switch 1/2 are excellent – front tuck through to double tuck, bounce back
SKW – BB – Kentucky – aerial to bhs loso secure – switch to beat – side aerial to 1.5, hop forward. 9.875
Ewald – VT – Arkansas – into lineup for Price – handspring pike 1/2 is hit, bigger bounce back and a leg separation. 9800
Harkness – UB – MSU toe on to gienger, nice amplitude – bail, legs together – good hs on high – DLO, bounce back and then a lean forward after the bounce to try to control. 9.825
Magnelli – BB – Kentucky – bhs loso loso, right on – switch to straddle 1/4, nice – aerial, smooth – gainer pike, ooof, chest forward and a step. 9.850
Finnegan – FX – LSU – double arabian to stag, comfortable, stag a little too low today – switch ring and split leap full are lovely – 2.5 to front tuck is good, nothing to take there – switch. 9.975, not a 10 for me because I’d take for amplitude on stag jump
Kellerman – UB – MSU – hits jaeger, good feet – a bit tight hs on high bail – bail, good – short on a couple casts – DLO, holds landing, little rebound in place. 9.925, so they didn’t take for handstand, should have been a bit lower to me –
Bryant – FX – LSU – double front, a little short today, hop back – switch full lands under rotated – front lay good rise into rudi, controls step back well. 9.875
After 3: LSU 148.700, Michigan State 148.650, Kentucky 148.225, Arkansas 148.125
If Michigan State can stay on the beam. That’s what’s going to tell us what happens here. Over half the beam scores so far have been 9.9s, so it’s really about just staying on.
Rotation 4
Johnson – VT – LSU – yfull, good distance and open, sticks, little leg sep at the end. 9.900
Roberson – UB – Arkansas – clear hip to maloney, leg separation, pak is clean – 1/2 turn on low is past vertical – DLO, good stick. 9.925 oh boy
Kennedy just called him “Crisp Books” and that’s his new name.
Schulte – BB – MSU – switch to switch 1/2 to beat, good height, a little under on switch 1/2 position – hits los series – switch to gainer full – holds stick with a little pike.9.900
Procasky – FX – Kentucky – front 2/1, controls it, leg separation in second twist – switch ring to split leap 1.5, tries to pull it around – double tuck, chest up, solid. 9.850
Zeiss – VT – LSU – y1.5, step forward, leg separation on pre flight, knee form in the air, so probably shouldn’t be higher than 9.800. And it’s 9.825
Swaney – UB – Arkansas – toe on to maloney, legs together, into pak, small leg break – solid 1/2 turn finish on low – hits hs on high – DLO, bounce back. 9.800
Duplissis – BB – MSU – bhs bhs loso, holds it but a lean to the side wobble – beat to split jump 3/4, secure, a bit under on split – 1.5 dmt, holds stick, little leg break. 9.900 pretty high
Magnelli – FX – Kentucky – punch rudi to loso, some twist form – switch side 1/2 to straddle 1/2, hit – double pike, slide back
Finnegan – VT – LSU – y1.5, lands short, hop back

Ewald – UB – Arkansas – jaeger, hit – solid hs on high – DLO, chest well down with lunge forward –
Rizo – FX – Kentucky – double pike, under control, legs apart – double tuck, chest up, controls the step – pulls round her 1.5 split, a little formy in doing so – switch 1/2 to popa – back 1.5 to layout, hit
Drayton – VT – LSU – y1.5, also a ;little under, hop to the side – 9.900 is a lot for that
Harkness – BB – MSU – bhs loso, solid – switch to switch, hit – side aerial, solid – cat leap to side aerial to tuck 1.5, good. 9.900
Park – UB – Arkansas – hops back on dismount and a leg separation on pak, but hit. 9.800
Chio – VT – LSU – y1.5, nice form, nearly found the stick but ends up with two arm circles and a step back, so a big landing deduction. 9.750
Rodriguez – FX – Kentucky – rudi to layout is good – switch ring to split leap full, solid – double tuck, pretty big bounce back – back 1.5 to 1/2 to straddle jump, good control –
Smith – BB – MSU – bhs loso, wobble turn to the side – beat to straddle 1/2, good amplitude – double tuck, holds the stick with a little chest forward adjustment. 9.875 and they’re in.
Jones – UB – Arkansas – piked jaeger, nice – pak, smooth – 1/2 turn on low a bit past – hits hs on high – stuck dismount. Good. And 9.950
Bryant bounce back on vault today. 9.900
Stephen – BB – MSU – kickover two feet, lean check – bhs loso and falls – won’t affect qualification but won’t allow MSU to pass LSU.
SKW with three arm circles on floor to try to stay in bounds, which she does.
Waligora – UB – Arkansas – arches over on first hs and falls
Brose – FX – Kentucky – double pike, clean work – split leap full to wolf full, just a little under on wolf position – front full to layout, clean – front 2/1, lovely stick. 9.950
FINAL:
LSU 198.050
MSU 198.000
Kentucky 197.625
Arkansas 197.325
A fun final. Definitely the correct qualifiers here to nationals in LSU and Michigan State. Kentucky lost in on vault of all events, but ending up with three 9.95 starts and some missed landings hurt. Arkansas almost fully competed to potential (until some missed issues on bars at the end when qualification was already gone), but didn’t really have the same vault scoring potential as the others, even if they were perfect.
Individually, we’ll see Roberson (AA), Diaz (VT), Jones (UB), Magnelli (BB), Brose (FX).
Now it’s time for the Utah regional final. UCLA qualified with 197.750, Utah and Denver both ended up on 197.650, and Minnesota had 197.200.
Individuals! The all-around in the semifinals went Neff, then Chiles, then Ulrich, so we’re looking at one of them as the qualifier. Vault had Neff, Chiles, and Casali all tied for the win, so we’re probably looking at one of them (although if Denver makes it as a team and then one of Neff or Chiles is already going for AA, it could get messy, but we’re a long way from that).
On bars, you have McCallum in first and then a casual 14-way tie for second, where Rylie Mundell wins the tiebreak, so she’d be the individual frontrunner there. On beam, you have Chiles and then only an 11-way tie for second, the hierarchy goes Chiles, Malabuyo, Neff, Alipio, then Brynlee Andersen, so Andersen goes if UCLA and Utah are through. Floor is easier, where we have Chiles, then Moors, McCallum, Smith, then Campbell, and then it’s Hooten if UCLA and Utah qualify.
McGowan still absent from UCLA’s lineups here.
Rotation 1
Pearl – VT – Minnesota – yfull bounce back, solid height, some pike. 9.800
Smith – UB – Utah – hits pak, solid – toe on to van leeuwen, legs together – some shortish verticals – toe pike 1/2 dismount is close to the bar, chest down, step forward. 9.800
Cooley – BB – Denver – bhs loso loso, secure – switch, little lean before split jump – full turn – bhs gainer full, little rebound in place. 9.875
Rosen – FX – UCLA – double tuck, solid, chest a little forward – double pike, hit, same – switch ring to switch 1/2 to wolf full, good completion – back 1.5 to lay. 9.850
Steensland – VT – Minnesota – yfull, a bit bigger on the bounce back and some pike. 9.750
Glynn – UB – Utah – maloney, small leg break into bail – stalder to toe up to high – hits hs on high – stalder to double tuck, good stick, some foot flexing. 9.900
Gallen – BB – Denver – bhs loso, secure, a little soft – switch to switch 1/2 to beat, a but under on switch 1/2 – gainer pike, good stick. 9.925
Beam continuing a theme from the first semi.
MWL – FX – UCLA – front 2/1 slide forward – back 1.5 to a clean crisp layout – nice switch 1/2 – rudi, good twisting form, foot adjustment on landing. 9.900
Moraw – VT – Minnesota – yfull, good height, bounce up in place – 9.800
Neff falls on her gienger on bars.
Iwai – BB – Denver – switch to straddle 1/4, efficient, solid, not the highest but shows the split – bhs bhs loso, hit, very small waver hesitation on landing – hits full turn – gainer full, low amplitude, holds the stick. 9.900
Malabuyo – FX UCLA – double pike, solid landing, some feet – switch ring to to switch 1/2 to wolf full, lovely positions, kind of a step back on landing – wolf double – back 1.5 to lay, struggles in layout, gets low with a leg separation. 9.850 too high for the error
Crump – VT – Minnesota – y1.5, some better landing control, smaller step forward – 9.850
Mabanta – BB – Denver – wolf single, good – switch leap to switch 1/2 to beat, really well done – bhs loso, smooth – gainer tuck full, stuck. A big step up on the 9.9s we’ve seen and nowhere to go. 9.950.
Morgan – UB – Utah – maloney, leg seoaration into bhardwaj, solid, small foot separation – good van leeuwen – little back position on cast hs – slide back on stalder tuck 1/2 dmt. 9.850
Campbell – FX – UCLA – great landing on FTDT, leg separation is small – split leap full to popa, around well – front lay to front full, comfortable, controls the step out – double tuck, chest up, good. 9.900 is a little pinched there. How is that only 05 better than Malabuyo and the same as Webster Longin?
Stewart – VT – Minnesota – larger lunge forward on y1.5. 9.800
Thompson – BB – Denver – side aerial to bhs, secure with soft knees in both elements – switch to side somi, hits – gainer pike, shuffle forward. 9.850
Zirbes – UB – Utah – lovely jaeger feet, connects to overshoot – hits hs on high – FTDT, leans forward to horizontal in chest to hold the landing. 9.875 is a little “don’t worry we’ll help”
Hooten – VT – Minnesota – y1.5, nearly comes up with stick, full tenth step forward and a 9.875
Moors – FX – UCLA – front 2/1 to front tuck is hit – loso – rudi, nice. 9.950, with a 9.850-10.000 range.
Ulrich – BB – Denver – straddle jump 3/4 is around – bhs loso, very small foot slide back, solid series – full turn, good – little adjustment on switch side landing – aerial to beat – gainer pike, holds landing but a torso adjustment. 9.900
McCallum – UB – Utah – good first hs – stalder shap to pak, hit – soliod hs on low – van leeuwen, legs together – good hs on high – FTDT, stuck. Same as her 10 from the semis. And it’s a 10 again.
Chiles – FX – UCLA – DLO, well out of control, bounce back with leg up to horizontal wobble – split leap full to wolf full, around well – dive roll – front tuck to double tuck, secure. 9.825 Shoutout to the 9.900 judge who was like, I didn’t see it and I won’t respond to it.
After 1: Denver 49.550, UCLA 49.450, Utah 49.425, Minnesota 49.125
Denver keeping us entertained here. I did think beam was loose, so we’ll see how that translates when the remainder of teams head there. And how will Utah react to being outside the qualification positions after 1?
Rotation 2
Lee – VT – UCLA yfull, good control on landing, some chest forward. 9.900 a bit high there
Jencks – UB – Minnesota – tkatchev, some feet – a bit tight on hs – clear hip – bail, legs together, come angle on catch – short cast hs – DLO, little rebound with chest forward. 9.750
Morgan – BB – Utah – bhs bhs loso, solid, just a bit of leg position – switch 1/2 to beat – full turn, smooth – front gainer full, hop forward. 9.875

Jenkins – VT – UCLA – y1.5 is hit, good improvement, but a big bounce forward and some knee position. 9.800
Harrington – UB – Minnesota – hits hs on low – maloney to pak, legs apart on maloney, good pak – a tad late on 1/2 turn on low – good hs on high – toe on – ftdt, legs apart at the beginning, little movement lean on landing. 9.800
Winger – BB – utah – bhs loso bhs, solid, some knee in the layout portion – switch to split, tentative low back leg there – full turn – bhs gainer full, step back
Reidenbach – FX – Denver – whip 1/2 to rudi, hit, not the highest, fine – switch 1/2 to wolf fulls, under split on the switch 1/2 – double tuck, really like the air position, controls landing well. 9.875
Moors – VT – UCLA – handspring pike 1/2, lifts chest too quickly today and has two steps back. 9.775
Crump – UB – Minnesota – maloney to pak, small leg sep on maloney – hits hs on high – DLO, a little close, finds landing, chest forward. 9.800
Iwai – FX – Denver – back 1.5 to layout to stag, pretty execution – switch full, solid split, allllmost fully around – double tuck, chest down more there – switch 1/2 to popa to popa, lands a hair under I think but good splits again
Judges conference for Winger
MWL – VT – UCLA – hits her y1.5 well – little hop forward and some knee position. 9.950 is alottttt though
Stewart – UB – Minnesota – maloney to pak, smooth – van leeuwen, hit – high toe pike 1/2 dismount, deep landing with a bounce back. 9.850
9.800 for Winger with a casual 9.600-9.900 range. Will need to go back and watch that one.
Cooley – FX – Denver – front lay to rudi, good rise – switch ring 1/2 to split, good feet – 1.5 to layout, good rise – 9.900
Smith – BB – Utah – candle mount – bhs loso secure – aerial, knee psoition, wobble and no connection – redoes the aerial to split jump straddle jump – good gainer dismount 9.875
Hooten – UB – Minnesota – piked jaeger to overshoot, a little form initiating jaeger, good height – FTDT, step back. 9.850
Campbell – VT – UCLA – good one, nice direction and open and stick. 9.925
Mabanta – FX – Denver – front lay to rudi, hit – switch ring 1/2 to split jump is good – back 15 to layout, good position, just a bit loew on amplitude. 9.925
McCallum – BB – Utah – wolf double, doesn’t try the triple today – bhs loso, secure, flexed feet – switch to split leap hit – gainer tuck full with a wonky foot, stuck. 9.950 because feet aren’t real.
Lyden – UB – Minnesota – maloney, leg break into a clean bail – tight hs on high – DLO, step back. 9.875
Chiles – VT – UCLA – ro 1/2 on tuck 1/2 step back and doesn’t hold her finish position today. 9.900 pretty impossible for the landing
Urich – FX – Denver – DLO, pikes down at the end and a bounce back – switch side to popa – back 1.5 to layout, good rise in layout – double pike, secure landing. 9.950 I don’t see with that first pass. I’m with the 9.850 head judge there.
Neff – BB – Utah – side aerial to bhs is solid – cat leap to side aerial, little lean through to her shushunova, covers it but a correction and shortness deduction – gainer full, little bounce in place. 9.900.
Well at least literally everyone is getting scored too high? That’s something…?
Pronouncing Padurariu is going to actually kill Jason.
Padurariu – BB – Utah – wolf double, hit, little arm adjustment – aerial to bhs, hit, little lean – beat – split ju,p to sheep, check – gainer pike, chest down, step forward. 9.800
After 2: Denver 99.050, UCLA 98.925, Utah 98.825, Minnesota 98.300
Well…

It’s getting wacky around here, and we still have to see what they’re going to do about Winger’s beam score. And Utah hasn’t even done home floor yet.
Rotation 3
“Minnesota on the bean” really sums up how I’m feeling about this final.
Brusch – VT – Denver – yfull, good height and open but a pretty large bounce back. 9.850
Campbell – UB – UCLA – maloney to bail, hit – tighter hs on high – dobuel front, cowboy, little adjustment of left foot. 9.850
Koch – BB – Denver – bhs loso, good height secure – beat to split jump 3/4, around, some foot form – kickover is deep, holds the scale shown – 1.5, holds stick on 1.5 – 9.875
Glynn – FX – Utah – front 2/1 bounce out – switch ring to switch side to popa, just a little crooked on switch side – back 1.5 to layout – 9.850
Mabanta – VT – Denver – similar, big vault but a pretty big bounce back. Getting away with those for 9.850
Rosen – UB – UCLA – toe on to maloney to pak, a little low but hit – solid 1/2 turn position on low bar – gets up to hs on high – DLO, a little low, chest forward and a hop. 9.825
Zirbes – FX – Utah – front 2/1, as bit under with a small slide back – switch 1/2 to popa, around well – 1.5 to front full, hit but more knee bend than her usual to get it around – 9.850
Stewart – BB – Minnesota – hits candle mount – pauses after aerial before korbut, broken to me – gainer full, step forward. 9.675
MWL – UB – UCLA – maloneu, hits with leg separation, into good pak – hits 1/2 turn on low – FTDT, close to the bar and a hop back. 9.850
Ulrich – VT – Denver – hs pike 1/2 chest forward and can’t hold onto the cover with another hop forward after. Still 9.800
Neff – FX – Utah – front 2/1 to front tuck is nice – switch side to popa, good position – front full to front full is hit. 9.925
They did resolve Winger’s beam to 9.625 but it won’t count. The charitable scoring of Padurariu’s beam saved Utah there.
Malabuyo – struggles on her 1/2 turn on low, past with an angle and leg break – little movement on FTDT. 9.850, the judges are the gymternet today for Malabuyo’s errors, still getting big scores because Emma.
Reidenbach – VT – Denver – y1.5 is a major struggle, two large lunges back. 9,625
Gilstrap – FX – Utah – rudi, chest lower than usual but a controlled landing – switch full, lands a little under – split lepa full, lovely feet – front lay to fromt full, good control, some soft legs. Here we go 9.950 with a 10 from one judge.
Moraw hits loso series on beam – side aerial is smooth – beat to straddle 3/4, pretty straddle position –
Casali – VT – Denver – y1.5, short with two steps back of her own, it’s falling away for Denver now. 9.750
Esparza finishes bars with a short DLO, step forward
Smith – FX – Utah – front 2/1 to front tuck, solid – switch ring to tuck jump 1.5 to wolf hop full, a bit low on amplitude – rudi to loso, smooth. 9.925 for her, another judge goes 10.
Rowray – BB – Minnesota – little lean on loso series, good position – arm wave wpobble on straddle jump 1/4 –
“I don’t care I love it” is an appropriate music cue for Utah home floor scores.
Mundell – VT – Denver – also well short on her y1.5, not distance lunge back. 9.650
Chiles finishes bars with DLO, hop back. 9.900
McCallum – FX – Utah – FTDT, slide back and some feet – front tuck through to double tuck – split leap full and popa are around. 9.975 because we didn’t watch the first pass.
Pearl – BB – Minnesota – good aerial extension into beat – gainer full, hop up in place. 9.900
Lyden – BB – Minnesota – wolf double, good – bhs loso, secure, chest down some – cat leap to switch side, secure – 1.5, some knees, holds the stick
After 3: Utah 148.450, UCLA 148.200, Denver 147.950, Minnesota 147.650
Still stuff to play for here, though that rough Denver vault rotation has changed the setup. And has really stunted the opportunity for righteous indignation at these stupid scores.
Rotation 4
Zirbes – VT – Utah – y1.5, hits, medium step forward and some knees
Casali – UB – Denver – toe on to maloney to bail, legs together solidly – hip angle in cast handstands – DLO, bounce back and another arm wave circle step back/ 9.775
Lee – BB – UCLA – aerial to split jump, pretty big balance error, lean to the side – bhs loso, another big break, leg up wobble – switch to straddle is better – sticks gainer full. 9.750
Jencks – FX – Minnesota – front 2/1, a little underrotated – switch 1/2 to popa, good height and completion – back 1.5 to lay is super low, huge struggle magic that she kept it to her feet but major deduction
McCallum big struggle on y1.5, nearly puts knee down on large lunge forward. 9.800. She’s not allowed to go below 9.800 at home. It’s state law I think.
Ulrich UB – Denver – toe on to maloney to pak, good height and legs together – DLO, hop back. 9.875
Rosen – BB – UCLA – switch to split, good form – beat to onodi, arm wave correction – bhs loso is secure, some knee form to take – 1.5 dmt, holds stick. 9.850
Neff – VT – Utah – y1.5, full tenth step and some knees. 9.850
Rorich – UB – Denver – jaeger, hit, closer catch, good feet – bail hs, legs together well – DLO, bounce up. 9.900
Chiles – BB – UCLA – bhs loso, solid – cat leap to switch side, good position, just a small arm position correction – side aerial, lean to the side – 2/1, bounce back. 9.900
Nice straddle positions from Pearl on floor. The WEIRDEST mistake as she just misses her hands on her roundoff and eats it.
Glynn – VT – Utah – y1.5, small slide forward, knee form throughout. 9.925
Cooley – UB – Denver – toe on to high Ray – hits hs on high – bail, legs together solidly – hits hs on high – DLO, hits landing but chest forward lean; 9.850
Campbell – BB – UCLA – bhs lay pike, secure – split leap, little pause befroe switch 1/2 wobble, leg up – tries to cover which is fun but also you need to take a leg up wobble – gainer full, stuck. 9.875
Smith – VT – Utah – Omelianchik, way short, lunge back. 9.800
Gonsiorowski – FX – Minnesota – FTDT, controls step, some legs apart – double tuck, solid landing, chest deep
Alipio – BB – UCLA – full turn, smooth – secure triple series, takes it right to the end of the beam – side aerial, good – split leap to switch to beat – gainer tuck full, holds stick, some direction. 9.900.
Johnson – VT – Utah – another solid y1.5, good stick, some knee, direction, lack of distance if you want to, but they won’t. 9.950
Hebinck good stick on DLO on bars for Denver.9.900
Malabuyo – BB – UCLA – wolf single, hit – bhs loso, arm wave correction – aerial to beat to korbut, smooth – split jump to split ring jump, lovely – gainer full, little rebound. 9.900
Koch – FX – Minnesota – front 2/1, hit – split leap full to wolf full – back 1.5 to lay, dance out, good height – rudi, under control
Mundell – UB – Denver – good first hs – tkatchev, nice – hits hs toe on to bail, legs together well – DLO, chest down, hop forward, perfect on the bars until the landing
Hooten – FX – Minnesota – FTDT, good control – switch side, under split, to wolf full – front full to front pike, good rise – double tuck, solid. 9.900. I mean a fair score (the switch side is way way under) but now we’re going to decide to watch routines?
FINAL: Utah 197.825, UCLA 197.625, Denver 197.350, Minnesota 196.850
Utah and UCLA advance. I feel bad for Denver. The scoring here was the sign of an actual mental illness, but they had to vault stronger than they did at the end of that rotation to get through here.
If Utah and UCLA are being honest with themselves heading to nationals, they need to acknowledge that they both would have been eliminated from the Penn State regional and performed weaker than Kentucky today.
