We’re already on to week 6. After this weekend, enough teams will have NQSs that we can start to get a sense of the actual ranking hierarchy and what these teams need to do in the coming weeks to position themselves ideally for the elimination meets. And who knows where we’ll be in the 10.000 situation.

Speaking of which, we’ll start this Friday with LSU’s visit to Florida. Last time these two teams met in a dual meet, they both went over 198. So I’m expecting a lot of 9.7s. Maybe a 9.825 for Thomas.

Because of LSU’s early meet cancellations, the team doesn’t have a usable road score yet. There are still four road meets on the schedule including this one, so things are not completely urgent, but this is such an opportunity for a high road score at a high-profile meet that LSU can’t really afford to let it pass by.

Provisional lineups have Blakely remaining in the vault lineup and Wong coming back there as well, plus McCusker returning to the bars lineup. No Clark, Edwards, Gallentine, or Richards.

LSU’s opening bars lineup remains the same as last week. Sarah Edwards is not listed on the live scores at all, but LSU tweeted that she’s in the vault lineup.

I love when they’re like, “But when it comes to a 10…I’m going to start seeing deductions.” It’s not one where I would have minded a 10. It was her best vault of the season. It needed more separation from the other scores, being the big issue. Fine with that as 9.950 if others are in the lower 9.8s.

LSU UB 5 – Shchennikova – Ray to pak lovely – 1/2 turn on low somewhat late this week – DLO, usual, small hop back. 9.850

Florida VT 6 – Blakely – does add back her Y1.5 but it’s short, large lunge back and additional step. Drop the score.

But where were the 10s????? I thought this was NCAA gymnastics!?!?!?! A strong vault rotation from Florida overall. It’s closer to the postseason lineup, though they’ll need to get Blakely’s 1.5 in working order to be at their top vaulting level. Stick from Thomas, only small hops from the other four counting scores. LSU a fine bars rotation but didn’t have all the handstand positions or the sticks, so finding themselves a bit behind after 1.

LSU VT 1 – Rivers – excellent lift on her yfull, small hop back. Let’s compare to Skaggs leadoff score. 9.825, to Skaggs on 9.900. Skaggs with more open position and a slightly smaller hop, but I thought the scores would be closer.

Florida UB 1 – Blakely – good frist hs – maloney to pak, a little hitch in the backswing on her maloney and lost her rhythm – too close on Pak, has to muscle up a cast, can’t do her cast 1/2 on low and finally has to hop off. Finishes double front with a step. 8.550

LSU VT 2 – Edwards – hits a solid Y1.5 – small hop to the side and a bit of knees. 9.875

Florida came back from a problematic start to get a good score here. Thomas again nailing her routine. I also would have gone 9.950 for that routine, but again it’s not separated from those gymnasts whose form and body position are looser than hers. A good vault rotation from LSU. Not getting the landing on Bryant’s was the one thing keeping that from a huge score.

LSU FX 6 – Johnson – full in, larger bounce back this week, one you probably have to take – 1.5 to front tuck second pass, got low on that front element but good cover to show a front tuck that was clean, but not her intended composition, usually does a layout – switch 1/2 to popa, good popa – double pike, little bounce. Will still have her 10.0 start even with the error because she normally has more than needed. 2 tenths for her opening E pass, 1 CV for the second pass, 1 CV for the dance combination, 1 tenth for the double tuck, and then the bonus tenth for ending with a D double salto, for 6 tenths of bonus. 9.850

LSU 49.450 on floor to Florida’s 49.350 on beam brings us to a tie after three events, 148.350 to 148.350.

Florida opened the door for LSU there with having a count an error routine on beam, but LSU did not get the scores it wanted from Bryant and Johnson to take advantage.

One of the frustrating things about college scoring is that the lunge has to be larger than a meter to get more than a tenth deduction, and a meter is really large. You end up with way too high vault scores, where a little step and a crazy lunge are scored the same.

The scoring of Shania Adams bars routines compared to the others remains one of the great mysteries of our time.

Meanwhile in Arkansas, Sarah Shaffer got the landing on her beautiful Y1/2 today. Hambrick is not competing today, which is a bummer.

Auburn VT 2 – Groth – sticks her yfull again – will have built-in deductions for dynamics and maybe body position on her block. 9.850

Missouri UB 2 – Schreiber – maloney to bail is clean, legs together throughout – hits cast hs on high – DLO, loses leg form in the air, short, hop forward. 9.850

Auburn VT 3 – Lee – yfull is hit – not her cleanest air position – small bounce back. 9.850

Missouri UB 3 – Patrick – good first hs – blind, late into jaeger, takes it too far and falls. Resumes with a bail, small leg break – DLO, short landing, lunge forward. 8.875

Auburn VT 4 – Hubbard – y1.5 and basically connects it to beat jump on her bounce forward. 9.800

Missouri UB 4 – Moore – giant full is very crooked but manages to connect into a tkatchev to overshoot – FTDT, step back. Good save after that giant full.

Auburn VT 5 – Watson – hits her Y1.5 landing – not the farthest and some knees, but strong landing, smallest scoot on landing, the kind of thing .05 is actually supposed to be reserved for. 9.925 high though.

Missouri UB 5 – Sheremeta – blind to jaeger, hits into overshoot, good toes on jaeger – a bit short on final cast hs – blind to rudi dismount, strong landing. 9.875

Auburn VT 6 – Gobourne – Y1.5 – step forward and then another step to meet it. Still 9.900.

Missouri Ub 6 – Celestine – maloney with some legs into pak, larger leg separation there – toe on to van eeluwen, much stronger – stalder to stalder front pike 1/2, stuck. Great finish again. 9.900 is a reward for the finish.

Missouri VT 2 – Marshall – yfull, also somewhat short, chest forward, hop. 9.700, so already counting a low score here.

Auburn UB 2 – Sabados – good first hs – Ray, somewhat close but fine – toe on to bail, leg break, some arch in hs position – short final cast – DLO, near stick, small hop. 9.825

Missouri VT 3 – Schreiber – much better yfull, just a little movement, chest up. 9.825

Auburn Ub 3 – Stevens – Ray, feet but fine – bail, hit – DLO, piking, slide back. 9.850

Missouri VT 4 – Celestine – good form on her y1.5 – medium hop forward. 9.875

Auburn UB 4 – Smith – toe on to maloney to pak, ohhh legs were together in a pretty fashion but she missed her hand on her pak, falls. Finishes DLO, bounce back.

Missouri VT 5 – Moore – wonderful amplitude on her Y1.5, but a large bounce forward. 9.800

Auburn UB 5 – Gobourne – rushes first cast hs a little – tkatchev to pak, pretty pak – 1/2 turn on low a bit late – better final cast hs – FTDT, hop back. A hit, didn’t quite attack her handstand positions going after a miss, but a good one. 9.850

Missouri VT 6 – Davis – lands very low on her y1.5, two lunges forward. Not ideal on this vault rotation from Missouri. Similar to Alabama today.

Auburn UB 6 – Lee – short first hs – maloney to pak to van leeuwen, lovely – closer final cast hs – FTDT, hop back. Not her strongest but a lovely combination. 9.900

Auburn BB 1 – Hollingsworth – bhs loso, secure, looked a little crooked on bhs but fine, solid toes on loso – switch to switch 1/2, larger break, leg up to horizontal – split jump 1/2 from side is solid – side aerial to full, stuck. 9.775

Missouri FX 1 – Schreiber – rudi to back tuck to front tuck to stag, doesn’t do the back layout today, has to tuck it – front full to loso, a little low – switch full to split leap full, gets them around – not quite her usual amplitude, some mistakes. 9.725

Auburn BB 2 – Smith – swtich to switch 1/2, pretty good positions – bhs loso, secure, nice toe point – bhs 1.5, stuck. Really strong work. 9.900

Missouri FX 2 – Burns – double tuck, secure, chest up – wolf jump 1.5 attempt may not get full credit – front full to layout is solid – switch side to popa, good straddle positions – 9.775

Auburn BB 3 – Stevens – bhs loso, secure landing, just a bit of knees – split to stag ring, arm wave correction – kickover to knee is solid, right into wolf turn – 1.5, holds the stuck landing. And it’s 9.950. Congrats Suni?

Missouri FX 3 – Sheremeta – front 2/1, controls the landing – switch side to popa, short back leg – rudi to loso, clean work – 1.5 to front loso, walks out, good extension. 9.875

Auburn BB 4 – Groth – bhs to loso to bhs, good amplitude – switch, check, no combination – switch 1/2 to split jump, addition to get her dance series – aerial is smooth – side aerial to full, stuck. 9.900

Missouri FX 4 – McCrary – front lay to rudi, controls landing, some form in layout – double pike, solid – switch side to popa, good extension in popa – 2.5 comes up well short, lunge back to save it. 9.725

Auburn BB 5 – McLaughlin – swtich, small hesitation to bhs loso – beat to side aerial, secure – swtich to straddle 1/4, very strong position – gainer pike, stuck. Some rhythm moments, but great elements.

Missorui FX 5 – Moore – DLO, solid landing, gets her chest up fairly well – love her rise into her two popas – double tuck, lunge back. 9.900

Auburn BB 6 – Lee – wolf single, good – aerial, keeps moving cleanly through bhs loso – switch to switch 1/2, solid back leg even – bhs gainer full, hop back. That was an auto 10 until the dismount given this rotation scoring. 9.900

Missouri FX 6 – Celestine – full in, chest up, bounce back – split leap full to split jump full, pretty positions – 1.5 to front layout, shows the rise into the element – double tuck, bounce back. Just landing control stuff. 9.900

The last few floor routines saved that rotation score for Missouri, but it’s still going to have to be a big beam performance to make this a usable road score.
