The Balance Beam Situation

Because gymnastics is a comedy, not a drama

Friday Live Blog – February 11, 2022

We’re already on to week 6. After this weekend, enough teams will have NQSs that we can start to get a sense of the actual ranking hierarchy and what these teams need to do in the coming weeks to position themselves ideally for the elimination meets. And who knows where we’ll be in the 10.000 situation.

Speaking of which, we’ll start this Friday with LSU’s visit to Florida. Last time these two teams met in a dual meet, they both went over 198. So I’m expecting a lot of 9.7s. Maybe a 9.825 for Thomas.

Because of LSU’s early meet cancellations, the team doesn’t have a usable road score yet. There are still four road meets on the schedule including this one, so things are not completely urgent, but this is such an opportunity for a high road score at a high-profile meet that LSU can’t really afford to let it pass by.

As always, check out the links post for streaming and scoring needs.

Provisional lineups have Blakely remaining in the vault lineup and Wong coming back there as well, plus McCusker returning to the bars lineup. No Clark, Edwards, Gallentine, or Richards.

LSU’s opening bars lineup remains the same as last week. Sarah Edwards is not listed on the live scores at all, but LSU tweeted that she’s in the vault lineup.

Rotation 1

Florida VT 1 – Skaggs – yfull, little hop back, good open as usual, clean. 9.900. Here we go.

LSU UB 1 – Johnson – hits first hs – maloney to bail, a litlte short of vertical, some body position on maloney swing back – cast hs on high, a little short, DLO, good position, small slide back. 9.825

Florida VT 2 – Schoenherr – Y1.5 is hit well, Owen in the way of the landing – hop forward, some knees throughout. 9.875. One tenth hop, one judge taking for knees, I would assume.

LSU UB 2 – Rivers – toe on to maloney to bail, little bit of legs through the combination – tight final cast hs – tkatchev, solid body position on catch – DLO, small step. 9.825

Florida VT 3 – Wong – ro 1/2 out pike 1/2, the best distance she has gotten on that vault – chest lowish but not too bad – small hop back. 9.900

LSU UB 3 – Dunne – tkatchev to pak, lovely Pak form – 1/2 turn on low, small foot crossing – she’s a little short on a couple cast hs here – DLO, finds the stick, holds it, slightly deep. 9.900

Florida VT 4 – Reed – Y1.5, little hop forward. Similar to Schoenherr but a bit straighter leg position. 9.900

LSU UB 4 – Bryant – good first hs – blind to jaeger, tight hip position but high amplitude – bail, legs together well – best handstands so far by a lot – double front 1/2 out, great landing. 9.950. Well now.

Florida VT 5 – Thomas – Y1.5 – there’s the stick! Excellent. Great form. Let’s watch the score. 9.975.

I love when they’re like, “But when it comes to a 10…I’m going to start seeing deductions.” It’s not one where I would have minded a 10. It was her best vault of the season. It needed more separation from the other scores, being the big issue. Fine with that as 9.950 if others are in the lower 9.8s.

LSU UB 5 – Shchennikova – Ray to pak lovely – 1/2 turn on low somewhat late this week – DLO, usual, small hop back. 9.850

Florida VT 6 – Blakely – does add back her Y1.5 but it’s short, large lunge back and additional step. Drop the score.

Florida 49.550 on vault.

LSU UB 6 – Durante – blind, a little late into jaeger, hit – solid hs – pak, small leg break – keeps her 1/2 turn on low a bit higher – FTDT, holds the stick. 9.900

After 1: Florida 49.550, LSU 49.425

But where were the 10s????? I thought this was NCAA gymnastics!?!?!?! A strong vault rotation from Florida overall. It’s closer to the postseason lineup, though they’ll need to get Blakely’s 1.5 in working order to be at their top vaulting level. Stick from Thomas, only small hops from the other four counting scores. LSU a fine bars rotation but didn’t have all the handstand positions or the sticks, so finding themselves a bit behind after 1.

These yearly 10 counts on the SEC Network broadcast are incorrect. Please see Hall of 10s.

Rotation 2

LSU VT 1 – Rivers – excellent lift on her yfull, small hop back. Let’s compare to Skaggs leadoff score. 9.825, to Skaggs on 9.900. Skaggs with more open position and a slightly smaller hop, but I thought the scores would be closer.

Florida UB 1 – Blakely – good frist hs – maloney to pak, a little hitch in the backswing on her maloney and lost her rhythm – too close on Pak, has to muscle up a cast, can’t do her cast 1/2 on low and finally has to hop off. Finishes double front with a step. 8.550

LSU VT 2 – Edwards – hits a solid Y1.5 – small hop to the side and a bit of knees. 9.875

Florida UB 2 – Skaggs – good first hs – tkatchev to pak, clean – 1/2 turn on low bar is borderline vertical, probably fine – hip angle short in final cast hs – DLO, can see the big straddle from this angle, step back. 9.850

LSU VT 3 – Arenas – clean and solid yfull, we’ve seen her maintain the layout position a bit more on other instances, shuffle back. 9.850

Florida UB 3 – McCusker – good first hs – maloney to pak, actual legs together – a bit tight on cast hs on low – mises her toes and has to recast, form break – can leeuwen is hit – blind, slight angle – front giant 1/2 to double tuck, holds stick, chest position low there. They can count it and will have to, but things. 9.850 is…friendly.

LSU VT 4 – KJ Johnson – excellent amplitude on her yfull, finds the stick – little bit of direction, nice. 9.900

Florida UB 4 – Schoenherr – toe 1/2 to jaeger, feet bit high – toe on to bail, clean vertical position – rolls through blind into double front 1/2 out, stuck. Some small things, flexed feet, hip angle, stagger on her stuck dismount, but we’ll see if those are things they’re taking as straight deductions. 9.950

LSU VT 5 – Kiya Johnson – DTY, nearrrrlly sells the stick, small movement, a bit of direction as well – feet crossing, usually forgiven in DTY. 9.950

Florida UB 5 – Thomas – maloney to pak, nice position – toe on to van leeuwen – strong final cast hs – DLO, nails the stick. Keep an eye on it. My question was the handstand on low bar before the toe on, borderline. 9.950

LSU VT 6 – Bryant – well it won’t be the 10 this week with a step back, great in the air, chest a bit more forward. 9.900

Florida UB 6 – Wong – good first hs – maloney to pak, smalll leg separation – little arch on cast hs on low – van leeuwen – good final cast hs – DLO, step-salute back, so not a stick. 9.850

LSU 49.475 on vault to Florida 49.450 on bars.

After 2: Florida 99.000, LSU 98.900

Florida came back from a problematic start to get a good score here. Thomas again nailing her routine. I also would have gone 9.950 for that routine, but again it’s not separated from those gymnasts whose form and body position are looser than hers. A good vault rotation from LSU. Not getting the landing on Bryant’s was the one thing keeping that from a huge score.

Rotation 3

Florida BB 1 – Skaggs – switch to split, pretty positions – bhs loso series, good extension – aerial, very small lean correction – cat leap to switch side, hit – side aerial to full, hop back. Solid. 9.875

LSU FX 1 – Desiderio – DLO, a lot of arch, good control – 1.5 to layout, good lift into layout, slightly legs in 1.5 – split leap full to split jump full – double tuck, secure landing. A couple chest position and leg moments, but very solid. 9.900

Florida BB 2 – Blakely – aerial to bhs, smooth connection – switch to switch 1/2, solid 180 position, just loses her toe point at the end – side somi with a hugggeee break, two arm swims and a leg up and a lean forward, brings it back – side aerial to full, small hop. 9.600

LSU FX 2 – Shchennikova – front 2/1, slight lack of control on dance out – 1.5 to front full, again risking the edge of control, looked like she kept her back foot down – rudi right to loso, it’s a smart composition choice for her that she can pull around at the end. 9.850

Florida BB 3 – Baumann – bhs loso, smooth – switch to split, nice – aerial to beat – side aerial, holds it well, not giving away checks – 1.5, holds the stick well, little lean. Good one. 9.900

LSU FX 3 – KJ Johnson – imagine if NCAA had the Van Gerner rule, it would be chaos out there. Full in, excellent, chest up, controlled step – 1.5 to layout, keeps layout straight – switch side to popa, overturns the switch side a bit, ends up in the right place – double tuck, some lack of control. Strong. 9.950. Well now.

Florida BB 4 – Wong – switch to split leap, pretty – bhs loso, nice positions – switch ring, that’s an addition, secure landing – aerial, smooth – able to ditch the side aerial and side somi today – 2/1, little rebound in place to hold landing. Pretty. 9.925

LSU FX 4 – Finnegan – double arabian is well controlled, slight pause into stag jump but the position is strong – split leap full to jump full, gets a little low on the jump full – “Jay said he doesn’t like to compare the two but Aleah is even more talented” – LOL – 2.5 to layout final pass, has to arch around that final layout, low. 9.900 is very forgiving.

Florida BB 5 – Thomas – switch leap, hit – switch to split leap, clean – one-arm bhs to loso, very clean – aerial to beat to korbut, was going great but then her korbut was way off, off angle and has to adjust herself back on – side aerial to full, stuck. 9.700

LSU FX 5 – Bryant – double front, controls back foot on step forward – front lay to rudi, a bit of crossed legs, holds onto the landing – switch ring to switch 1/2, deliberate and smooth, not a lot of ring closure but finds the split position – front 2/1 is wayyyyy deep, pulls out the landing, but a deep squat below hips. 9.775

Florida BB 6 – Clapper – bhs loso loso, very secure – full turn, hit – split to split, solid, some feet and knees – side aerial to full, stuck. Good hit. 9.950

LSU FX 6 – Johnson – full in, larger bounce back this week, one you probably have to take – 1.5 to front tuck second pass, got low on that front element but good cover to show a front tuck that was clean, but not her intended composition, usually does a layout – switch 1/2 to popa, good popa – double pike, little bounce. Will still have her 10.0 start even with the error because she normally has more than needed. 2 tenths for her opening E pass, 1 CV for the second pass, 1 CV for the dance combination, 1 tenth for the double tuck, and then the bonus tenth for ending with a D double salto, for 6 tenths of bonus. 9.850

LSU 49.450 on floor to Florida’s 49.350 on beam brings us to a tie after three events, 148.350 to 148.350.

Florida opened the door for LSU there with having a count an error routine on beam, but LSU did not get the scores it wanted from Bryant and Johnson to take advantage.

Rotation 4

Bryant will be scratching BB after that weird floor issue

LSU BB 1 – Desiderio – swtich to switch 1/2, small lean correction – bhs loso, secure – full turn fine but tentative – aerial, solid – cat to gaienr full, stuck, legs apart. 9.875

Florida FX 1 – Skaggs – wolf double, clear finish position – rudi to double stag, some arm wave control – split leap full to split jump full, great positions – 1.5 to layout, a little low on layout. Good. 9.900

LSU BB 2 – Durante – smooth full turn – aerial, short and can’t save it, falls – redoes her aerial into bhs loso, hit – switch to straddle 1/4, another lean – side aerial to full, leans to hold stick. 9.350

Florida FX 2 – Baumann – 1.5 to front full, dance out, shows some back foot control – balked on her leap combination! – adds her switch fullish to sissone later – double pike, good chest up and controlled landing.

Still goes 9.900. OK.

LSU BB 3 – Dean – side aerial to bhs is hit, bent knees on bhs – switch to split, solid – aerial to sissone, clean – side aeiral to full, little tuck in her layout full, holds stick. 9.875

Florida FX 3 – Wong – 3/1, very strong, around – split leap full to split jump full, good positions, some traveling – back 1/2 to front full, pause before her stag jump, got caught up and a little low in that combination – double pike, some lack of control, chest up.

9.975. That middle pass was not a 10 pass, and her last pass landing was not controlled.

LSU BB 4 – Finnegan – bhs loso loso, good secure, some feet – switch to split, has to fight through the connection, little lean at the end – aerial, holds on – bhs 1.5, hop forward. 9.875

Florida FX 4 – Reed – DLO, good chest up, controls front foot – front lay to rudi, also controlled, it’s not as high as she can go, but well hit – switch 1/2 to wolf full – double pike, chest up, keeps front foot down. Well, that was more controlled than Wong’s.

10.000. And there we go. You knew they weren’t going to let a whole meet go by.

LSU BB 5 – Rivers – bhs loso, small check – switch 1/2, short of split position, secure landing – switch to straddle 1/4, again secure, can deduct for 180 on both elements – 2/1, stuck. Did what she can do. 9.900

Florida FX 5 – Thomas – big DLO, chest up, control – front full to front lay to sissone, that’s how you show rise into the second pass in a combination – split leap full to popa – double pike, lands chest forward and a step. Was a sure 10 before that final pass.

9.975. Who gave that last pass a 10????

Anyway she was a Korbut away from her best meet ever.

LSU BB 6 – Johnson – bhs loso series, very solid – swtich to switch, good secure combination, then a split leap, a bit tighter on that one – kickover front, hit, little lean correction – 1.5 dismount. Good finish to the meet. 9.950

Florida FX 6 – Blakely – double arabian, lands a little locked but under control – switch ring to switch 1/2 – double tuck, solid landing – 1.5 to layout, keeps pretty solid height on layout, a little arch. 9.950 why not.

LSU done on 197.825, which will be a loss but a very useful road score. Pretty complete meet there.

Florida goes 49.800 on floor as you knew they would because of this life. I’m just surprised there was only one 10 in the rotation.

198.150 final for Florida to take the win. Their second 198 of the season.

I felt like things were not totally preposterous in the score department until that final floor rotation.

And now it’s Georgia/Alabama. Remember when that was the main event?

Rotation 1

Alabama VT 1 – Olsen – DTY pretty solid, slide back, knees, normal. 9.900. This meet’s like, Y’ALL WE CAN DO SCORING TOO

Georgia UB 1 – Finnegan – good first hs – Ray is somewhat close but corrected and covered well – toe on to pak, lots of straddle – 1/2 turn on low, solid position – hits final cast hs – FTDT, hop back. 9.825

Alabama – VT 2 – Paradise – Y1.5, pretty large bounce forward. Still goes 9.850

Georgia UB 2 – Ward – good first hs – shaposh to bail, hit, a little bit of feet – rushes final cast hs – DLO clean, step back. Her best competition bars. 9.850

Alabama VT 3 – Adams – sits her y1.5 this week, coming up very short. 9.300

Georgia UB 3 – Cashman – tkatchev, a little flat but fine – arch on high bar, pulls it back, bail, hits vertical, leg break – DLO, bounce back. This is not De Jong btw. 9.675

Alabama VT 4- Doggette – Y1.5, another large lunge forward, this one larger than Paradise’s. Still 9.825

One of the frustrating things about college scoring is that the lunge has to be larger than a meter to get more than a tenth deduction, and a meter is really large. You end up with way too high vault scores, where a little step and a crazy lunge are scored the same.

Georgia UB 4 – Schild – toe on to Ray, solid – good cast hs – bail, leg break, slight angle – rushes final cast hs – DLO, off balance on landing, two small steps and an arm swing. 9.750.

Alabama VT 5 – Graber – hits y1.5 – another pretty large lunge forward, not as large as Doggette. 9.875. One judge only took for step, which is high.

Georgia UB 5 – Roberts – shortish first hs – toe on maloney to bail, very clean combination – solid final cast hs – DLO, little bounce, best so far. 9.875

Alabama VT 6 – Blanco – Y1.5 is short, a lunge back and an additional little shuffle. Not a strong vault rotation for Alabama today, and they’ll get away with a competitive score. 9.800

Georgia UB 6 – Nguyen – toe 1/2, late into piked jaeger – pak is solid – sole circle up to high – short hs on high – DLO, some legs, short landing, hop forward. Gave away things, but they need it. 9.800

Yeah, Alabama still goes 49.250 on vault despite only Olsen putting up a good one.

Georgia goes 49.100 on bars, counting a 9.750, also should feel happy to escape with a score over 49 here.

Rotation 2

Georgia VT 1 – Cashman – hits a yfull, medium step back, not a lot of distance. 9.825. Vault scores staying very high. Compare to Rivers 9.825 Yfull for LSU, which had much more amplitude.

Alabama UB 1 – Hudson – good first hs – toe on maloney, legs, into bail, gets to vertical, some pike going into it – giant full to double tuck, stuck landing, chest up. Nice dismount. 9.900

Georgia VT 2 – Magee – pulls around y1.5 despite not having the most amplitude, clean, step to the side. 9.900, wow.

Alabama Ub 2 – Gaskins – maloney to pak, leg break on pak – 1/2 turn on low, somewhat late – short final cast hs – DLO, college salutes herself out of the landing, was going to have to step anyway, but it made it larger. 9.775

Georgia VT 3 – Ward – Tsuk full, finds her stick for maybe the first time, saluted out of it probably a little quick – some pike. 9.875

Alabama UB 3 – Adams – good first hs – maloney to pak, gorgeous – hits cast hs – van leeuwen, legs together – toe full, a bit late into double tuck, no idea on the landing because this camera angle, step back. 9.825

Georgia VT 4 – Hawthorne – still going with a yfull – hits a clean one, great body position in the air, but a large bounce back on her extra mat. 9.800

Alabama Ub 4 – Machado – good first hs – maloney to pak, hit – strong hs on low – toe on to van leeuwen, a little more crossing than Adams – toe full is also later, double tuck, stuck. 9.900

Georgia VT 5 – Baumann – brings out her Y1.5 and nearly sticks it – little step to the side, knees throughout, good distance, not the highest. 9.925.

Alabama UB 5 – Blanco – good first hs – maloney to pak, clean – better 1/2 turn position on low – short final cast hs – FTDT, little rebound in place. Pretty work. 9.950

Georgia VT 6 – Roberts – hits her y1.5 – little movement on landing, and a step-salute in there – knees. 9.900

Alabama Ub 6 – Doggette – tkatchev, fingertips into pak – more hip angle on 1/2 turn on low than Blanco – DLO, little bounce. 9.925

So that’s going to be 49.425 for Georgia on vault. Clearly a lot of improvements made there. Also the scoring of this meet is BONKS. Way looser than LSU/Florida was, honestly.

Alabama goes 49.500 on bars, so it’s Alabama 98.750, Georgia 98.525.

The scoring of Shania Adams bars routines compared to the others remains one of the great mysteries of our time.

Meanwhile in Arkansas, Sarah Shaffer got the landing on her beautiful Y1/2 today. Hambrick is not competing today, which is a bummer.

Rotation 3

Alabama BB 1 – Burgess – one-arm bhs to loso, secure, almost wavers through enthusiasm with her reaction – cat leap to switch side, tight position – switch to beat – side aerial to full, little hop in place. 9.825

Georgia FX 1 – Perez-Lugones – double pike, solid, chest up – 1.5 to front full with a large lunge forward, multiple steps and OOB – switch side to popa, somewhat indistinct in landing positions, good 180s – double tuck, good landing. 9.650

Alabama BB 2 – Olsen – pause before switch to switch 1/2, OK – bhs loso series, secure, some knee position – fhs, small lean – bhs bhs double pike, stuck landing. Excellent double pike. 9.900

Let’s get rid of “she’ll do whatever you say” as a compliment for gymnasts. We’ve seen too much.

Georgia FX 2 – Magee – short landing on piked full in, lunge forward – switch side to popa, lovely – 1.5 to layout, gets low on layout, loses knee position – double pike was better, secure landing. 9.800

Oklahoma added Sievers back into the vault lineup for 9.900 but no Levasseur today. Goes 49.250, which is better than last week but still not Oklahoma.

Alabama BB 3 – Graber – bhs lay-pike is more of a problem this week – leg-up wobble – switch to straddle 3/4, secure, a little tigher on her switch today – cat leap to kickover to scale, held well – gainer full, solid finish. 9.775

I like the implication from Sam that’s she’s funny this year. Before, she was like Marissa from The O.C., but now, she’s funny.

Georgia FX 3 – De Jong – 3/1, around, little bounce – switch side to wolf full, shy of wolf position – double tuck, jarred landing, bounce, chest down – 1.5 to layout, hit, just a little leg crossing. 9.775

Alabama BB 4 – Machado – wolf triple to wolf double to start, sigh what is this elite?, pulls it around, just a little arm wavering – bhs loso series, break, bend at the hips, some foot flexing – nice high straddle 1/4 position – side aerial, another break, lean to the side – sticks gainer full. Still 9.700

Georgia FX 4 – Roberts – front tuck through to double tuck – double pike, secure landing, feet – 9.850

Alabama BB 5 – Hudson – aerial, hit, knees, into bhs loso, hit – switch to switch, short back leg – side aerial, secure – 1.5, a tad short, step back. 9.875 is high but so is everything.

Georgia FX 5 – Baumann – wolf 2.75, very clearly 2.75 around, but 2.75 is not it’s own skill – 1.5 to front full, controlled step, some knees – switch side to straddle jump, super high – double pike, little bounce. 9.900

A fall from Sarah Shaffer on bars for Arkansas means they’re counting a miss there again following Kelley’s fall.

Alabama BB 6 – Blanco – aerial, lovely – bhs loso, good extension throughout – switch to switch 1/2, a little lean correction through the series to keep it going – 2/1, bounce back. Perfect beginning, not her strongest finish. 9.850

Georgia FX 6 – Hawthorne – a love the camera angle that’s far away with 6 people in the way, good art – double pike, very strong – split leap full to split jump full, lost control toward the end of the combination – front lay to rudi to split jump, rudi was short, covered it into rebound. 9.875

A bit of a raggedy rotation for both teams there. Alabama still goes 49.225 to Georgia’s 49.200.

After 3: Alabama 147.975, Georgia 147.725

We expect Alabama to run away on floor, but the potential for a big Georgia road score is there if beam….if….

Oklahoma 49.550 on bars, top score a 9.950 from Bowers.

Mark Cook is at the Arkansas meet for the reunion. BuT wHeRe Is ReNe?

Rotation 4

Georgia BB 1 – Magee – has a check on her straddle 1/2 today – bhs bhs loso, smoothly done – looks tentative but not giving away a TON – 1.5 dismount, step forward. Still goes 9.850, which is her usual score when she does well.

Alabama FX 1 – Machado – double pike, hit – 1.5 to front pike, secure, a little low, some feet – wolf triple – switch to switch 1/2, hits her 180s – double tuck, also solid. 9.850

Georgia BB 2 – Schild – aerial, a little slow into bhs bhs, wavers back and forth in her wobble – switch to split jump, solid – cat leap is high, into side aerial to full, short, step forward. 9.750

Alabama FX 2 – Gaskins – DLO, lots of arch, controls landing – y spin 1.5 to wolf jump full – switch to switch 1/2 to stag, her back leg is well short today on her dance elements – front tuck through to double tuck, secure landing – 9.875

Georgia BB 3 – Cohen – bhs loso, arm wave check – switch to straddle, OK – whhhhaattt just happened? She went down to touch the beam for choreography and fell – but you know what’s easy, a side aerial, hit – 2/1, holds the landing. Oh Georgia.

Oh Georgia.

9.375

Alabama FX 3 – Doggette – piked full in, strong stick, just a little stagger on landing – switch to split leap full to split jump full, gets way short of position on the split jump full – front tuck through to double pike, wayyyyyy short and falls. She’s down and injured. Can we not please?

Georgia BB 4 – Nguyen – onodi to bhs, refreshing, and pretty close to connected today – y spin, large break, bend at the hips past horizontal – has to redo it because she needs a connection, into a full turn and a check – pause before lovely split jump – side aerial to full, hop back and another step into salute. Will have to count. 9.700 and could have been lower.

Oooooh looks like Oklahoma is counting a beam fall.

Alabama FX 4 – Hudson – front lay to front 2/1, nicely done, solid twisting position – switch 1/2 to wolf full, good positions – 2.5, secure landing. Strong routine, double tuck, also under control. 9.950

Georgia BB 5 – De Jong – swtich to split is good – aerial to straddle jump, also solid – bhs loso series, leg-up wobble, up to hip height – side aerial to full, bounce back. Through it. 9.850

All falling apart for Arkansas today on beam, and Kentucky counting some lower floor scores after a great bars start to the day.

Alabama FX 5 – Blanco – double pike, clean, small slide back – switch ring to switch and straddle work, great split positions but unclear landing positions, not all the way around on each element – double tuck, very good – front full to layout, dance out. 9.900

Georgia BB 6 – Baumann – side aerial to loso, hit, little arm wave – little hesitation before straight jump to switch side, hit – 1.5, leans forward to hold the stick.

9.925, and somehow again Georgia escapes with a rotation score over 49 despite most people in the lineup struggling. 49.075 here for a 196.800 total.

Alabama FX 6 – Graber – full in, chest up, little bounce – popa, solid – swtich side through to wolf jump 1.5, shows complete positions – front tuck through to double pike, controls foot. 9.925

So that puts Alabama on 197.475, which is a good score that might also be bad this season?

And it’s a second straight 10.000 for Ragan Smith on beam for our second 10 of the day. Oklahoma goes 49.075 on beam witha  counting fall.

Now Missouri and Auburn.

Rotation 1

Auburn VT 1 – Walsh – hits a yfull, bounce back, not a ton of distance. 9.775

Missouri UB 1 – Marshall – blind, rolls through a little into jaeger to overshoot, like the arm position on her jaeger – small arch in final cast hs – FTDT, slide back. 9.825

Auburn VT 2 – Groth – sticks her yfull again – will have built-in deductions for dynamics and maybe body position on her block. 9.850

Missouri UB 2 – Schreiber – maloney to bail is clean, legs together throughout – hits cast hs on high – DLO, loses leg form in the air, short, hop forward. 9.850

Auburn VT 3 – Lee – yfull is hit – not her cleanest air position – small bounce back. 9.850

Missouri UB 3 – Patrick – good first hs – blind, late into jaeger, takes it too far and falls. Resumes with a bail, small leg break – DLO, short landing, lunge forward. 8.875

Auburn VT 4 – Hubbard – y1.5 and basically connects it to beat jump on her bounce forward. 9.800

Missouri UB 4 – Moore – giant full is very crooked but manages to connect into a tkatchev to overshoot – FTDT, step back. Good save after that giant full.

Auburn VT 5 – Watson – hits her Y1.5 landing – not the farthest and some knees, but strong landing, smallest scoot on landing, the kind of thing .05 is actually supposed to be reserved for. 9.925 high though.

Missouri UB 5 – Sheremeta – blind to jaeger, hits into overshoot, good toes on jaeger – a bit short on final cast hs – blind to rudi dismount, strong landing. 9.875

Auburn VT 6 – Gobourne – Y1.5 – step forward and then another step to meet it. Still 9.900.

Missouri Ub 6 – Celestine – maloney with some legs into pak, larger leg separation there – toe on to van eeluwen, much stronger – stalder to stalder front pike 1/2, stuck. Great finish again. 9.900 is a reward for the finish.

Auburn 49.325 on vault, Missouri 49.150 on bars, Missouri with mistakes on that bars rotation to give away a margin early.

Ashley Miles has 158 trophies behind her, as well she should.

Rotation 2

Missouri VT 1 – Schaffer – yfull hit, hop back, pike, chest down. 9.725

Auburn UB 1 – Watson – hits first hs – Ray, hit, some tight body position – toe on to bail, a bit of hip angle there – FTDT, hop to the side. 9.800

Missouri VT 2 – Marshall – yfull, also somewhat short, chest forward, hop. 9.700, so already counting a low score here.

Auburn UB 2 – Sabados – good first hs – Ray, somewhat close but fine – toe on to bail, leg break, some arch in hs position – short final cast – DLO, near stick, small hop. 9.825

Missouri VT 3 – Schreiber – much better yfull, just a little movement, chest up. 9.825

Auburn Ub 3 – Stevens – Ray, feet but fine – bail, hit – DLO, piking, slide back. 9.850

Missouri VT 4 – Celestine – good form on her y1.5 – medium hop forward. 9.875

Auburn UB 4 – Smith – toe on to maloney to pak, ohhh legs were together in a pretty fashion but she missed her hand on her pak, falls. Finishes DLO, bounce back.

Missouri VT 5 – Moore – wonderful amplitude on her Y1.5, but a large bounce forward. 9.800

Auburn UB 5 – Gobourne – rushes first cast hs a little – tkatchev to pak, pretty pak – 1/2 turn on low a bit late – better final cast hs – FTDT, hop back. A hit, didn’t quite attack her handstand positions going after a miss, but a good one. 9.850

Missouri VT 6 – Davis – lands very low on her y1.5, two lunges forward. Not ideal on this vault rotation from Missouri. Similar to Alabama today.

Auburn UB 6 – Lee – short first hs – maloney to pak to van leeuwen, lovely – closer final cast hs – FTDT, hop back. Not her strongest but a lovely combination. 9.900

Oklahoma went 197.425 witha  counting fall on beam.

Auburn 49.225 on bars, Missouri 48.925 on vault. After 2: Auburn 98.550, Missouri 98.075

Today has been a little midseason blues, hasn’t it?

Rotation 3

Auburn BB 1 – Hollingsworth – bhs loso, secure, looked a little crooked on bhs but fine, solid toes on loso – switch to switch 1/2, larger break, leg up to horizontal – split jump 1/2 from side is solid – side aerial to full, stuck. 9.775

Missouri FX 1 – Schreiber – rudi to back tuck to front tuck to stag, doesn’t do the back layout today, has to tuck it – front full to loso, a little low – switch full to split leap full, gets them around – not quite her usual amplitude, some mistakes. 9.725

Auburn BB 2 – Smith – swtich to switch 1/2, pretty good positions – bhs loso, secure, nice toe point – bhs 1.5, stuck. Really strong work. 9.900

Missouri FX 2 – Burns – double tuck, secure, chest up – wolf jump 1.5 attempt may not get full credit – front full to layout is solid – switch side to popa, good straddle positions – 9.775

Auburn BB 3 – Stevens – bhs loso, secure landing, just a bit of knees – split to stag ring, arm wave correction – kickover to knee is solid, right into wolf turn – 1.5, holds the stuck landing. And it’s 9.950. Congrats Suni?

Missouri FX 3 – Sheremeta – front 2/1, controls the landing – switch side to popa, short back leg – rudi to loso, clean work – 1.5 to front loso, walks out, good extension. 9.875

Auburn BB 4 – Groth – bhs to loso to bhs, good amplitude – switch, check, no combination – switch 1/2 to split jump, addition to get her dance series – aerial is smooth – side aerial to full, stuck. 9.900

Missouri FX 4 – McCrary – front lay to rudi, controls landing, some form in layout – double pike, solid – switch side to popa, good extension in popa – 2.5 comes up well short, lunge back to save it. 9.725

Ashley is NOT having the Gymnasties. She’s having a moment about this. Some Georgia fans PTSD is COMING OUT.

Auburn BB 5 – McLaughlin – swtich, small hesitation to bhs loso – beat to side aerial, secure – swtich to straddle 1/4, very strong position – gainer pike, stuck. Some rhythm moments, but great elements.

And it’s 9.975.

Missorui FX 5 – Moore – DLO, solid landing, gets her chest up fairly well – love her rise into her two popas – double tuck, lunge back. 9.900

Auburn BB 6 – Lee – wolf single, good – aerial, keeps moving cleanly through bhs loso – switch to switch 1/2, solid back leg even – bhs gainer full, hop back. That was an auto 10 until the dismount given this rotation scoring. 9.900

Still an Auburn BB record, 49.625.

Missouri FX 6 – Celestine – full in, chest up, bounce back – split leap full to split jump full, pretty positions – 1.5 to front layout, shows the rise into the element – double tuck, bounce back. Just landing control stuff. 9.900

Auburn 148.175, Missouri 147.250

The last few floor routines saved that rotation score for Missouri, but it’s still going to have to be a big beam performance to make this a usable road score.

OK I’m tapping out for GymCastic Live starting somewhat shortly. Let’s all assume something interesting happens in the final rotation.
