With LSU going 197.625 yesterday, it would now take Utah something over 198.1 to move any higher in the rankings. Which would also be a bit of a statement to do at a Washington road meet, even if the reputation of tight Washington scoring isn’t a thing anymore because there’s no such thing as tight scoring. Washington has been trying to build back from that first meet 195.000 to get into the top 25, which they would do (at least temporarily for a minute) with a 196.7 today.

McCallum back in the vault lineup for Utah today for the first time in a month. Gantner also replaces Gilstrap on beam, and Zirbes is in on floor, no O’Keefe there today.

Rotation 1

Tubbs – VT – Washington – yfull, good amplitude, small hop back, not the farthest, nice as usual. 9.800

Smith – UB – Utah – pak, legs together – solid vertical on low – toe on to van leeuwen, legs together – toe on to front pike 1/2 dmt, holds the landing with chest forward lean. 9.900

Lin – VT – Washington – yfull, more of a bounce back and some direction. 9.725

Sabado – UB – Utah – blind to jaeger, good toe point, connects to overshoot but low with leg separation – DLO, some legs apart, bounce back. 9.825

Navarro – VT – Washington – y1.5, hits it, slightly underrotated so a small hop back centrally and some knee position. Good. 9.800

Morgan – UB – Utah – good first hs – maloney with some leg break into hit bhardwaj – van leeuwen, gets it – toe on to stalder tuck 1/2, finds stick. A couple small leg breaks in there but solid. 9.925

Innes – VT – Washington – yfull, strong amplitude and direction, medium bounce back. 9.750

Zirbes – UB – Utah – hits Ray to pak, solid amplitude, a little rushed on 1/2 turn on low – FTDT, small foot separation, hop forward. 9.850

SKW – VT – Washington – yfull, another medium hop back, best dynamics of the gang so far. 9.800

O’Keefe – UB – Utah – maloney to pak – short on 1/2 turn on low bar – double front, some cowboy, gets the stick. 9.925

McDonough – VT – Washington – yfull, hit, bounce back, solid distance, some more pike shape than the others, some direction. 9.700

McCallum – UB – Utah – good first hs – maloney to pak, small leg break at the end – directly into stalder to van leeuwen – a bit shy on cast hs on high – FTDT, some foot flexing, small hop back. 9.925

Washington the victim of kind of real scoring on vault there to go 48.875, in the lower half of their vault scores for the season, with everyone having a more-than-a-scoot bounce back. Utah with a big start on 49.525 on bars with three 9.925s. A good rotation, no full-tenth errors. Scoring seemed pretty forgiving with regard to handstands and small leg breaks so we’ll see how that translates to rotation two.

Rotation 2

Gilstrap – VT – Utah – yfull, solid direction, little slide back. 9.800

Moody – UB – Washington – toe on to maloney, some leg break in that and connection to pak – 1/2 turn on low, a bit shy on final cast hs – FTDT, hop back. 9.800

Zirbes – VT – Utah – y1.5, improvement there with a medium step forward, some leg position. 9.875

Lin – UB – Washington – clear hip to high gienger, some legs on catch, connects to overshoot with some pike position – finishes FTDT, chest well down, pulls it together with a hop. 9.775

Glynn – VT – Utah – y1.5, lots of direction there landing outside the area, crossover step. 9.750

Oppegard – UB – Washington – short first hs – blind to jaeger, good height – bail, a bit of angle coming in to vertical – shy on some handstands – DLO, step back. 9.750

Smith – VT – Utah – Omelianchik, solid, hop forward. 9.850

SKW – UB – Washington – good first hs – blind to piked jaeger, nice arm flare, connects to overshoot – hits hs on high – front giant 1/2 to double tuck dismount, good feet, small movement on landing and no finish position. 9.800

Rucker – VT – Utah – y1.5, lands a little short with a step back, some leg position angles. 9.875 pretty high for short landing and step back

Tubbs – UB – Washington – toe on to maloney to bail, good leg position throughout – DLO, almost holds onto the stick with a Bryant’s-beam-10 lean (too soon?), ends up stepping. 9.875

McCallum – VT – Utah – does a yfull, good distance, lunge back and some flexed feet. 9.800

Russon – UB – Washington – blind to jaeger, good height, connects to overshoot – shy cast hs on high – DLO, lower amplitude with some pike but finds the stick. 9.900

Washington enjoys the benefit of the looser bars scoring today for a 49.150 there to get them closer to the pace for a mid 196. Utah goes 49.200 on vault with pretty much everyone having at least a full tenth on landing, and some more real judging than usual.

After 2
Utah 98.725
Washington 98.025

Rotation 3

Hallinan – BB – Washington – kickover, little shoulder drop pause before back tuck – switch to split jump, good split – full turn – no does an aerial to back tuck to make sure she got a series, small check – 1.5 dismount, not the highest but gets it, small step back. Good to put in that second series, even though it added a lot of difficulty to be deducted on and there are many meets/teams where she would have gotten away with that first series. 9.750

Smith – FX – Utah – front 2/1, controls step forward – split leap ring to tuck jump 1.5 to wolf full, a bit under on the position – rudi to back lay to stretch jump – rudi to double stag. 9.875

Innes – BB – Washington – aerial to bhs, some knee in bhs – cat leap to side aerial, secure – switch to straddle 1/4, small adjustment on landing, good straddle 1/4 position – 1.5, holds landing with a lean forward. 9.900

Zirbes – FX – Utah – front 2/1, good leg position and control – switch 1/2 to popa – back 1.5 to front full, little lean out of it. Good. I’d keep it in the lineup. 9.925

Russon – BB – Washington – aerial, another with a lean on her series before the back handspring, and then a step back and arm wave – swtich to split ring jump, check – full turn, hit – beat to split jump 3/4, wobble, lean forward – 1.5, little hop. Fought it, stayed on. 9.675

Paulson – FX – Utah – front tuck to 2.5, slide forward – front lay to front full, under control, not the highest in combination – switch 1/1 to sissone – back 1.5 to front lay, good lay position, shows control. 9.900

Navarro – BB – Washington – bhs bhs loso, arm wave wobble – beat to switch side, a bit tight, lean forward – full turn, overturns by a 1/4 with another bend at the hips – 1.5, stuck but another lean on finish position. 9.725

“They want the perfect 10s to deserve a perfect 10.” Whaaaaa

Gilstrap – FX – Utah – front lay to rudi, under control – switch 1/1 to sissone – split leap full to knee is lovely, great feet – front lay to front full. 9.925

SKW – BB – Washington – aerial, good leg position – bhs loso, hit – full turn – kickover, connects to beat jump – switch to split jump, secure – side aerial to 1.5, hop. Good one. 9.850

McCallum – FX – Utah – FTDT, little hop back, flexed foot position – switch – split leap full to popa, around well – front lay to rudi, some leg separation. 9.950 is high.

Moody – BB – Washington – bhs loso loso, hits it securely, going just straight up in place not even down the beam by the end – switch to split – full turn, wobble – 1.5 dismount, hop. 9.850

Rucker – FX – Utah – FTDT, survives it but a short landing, chest down and hop to the side – switch 1/1 to shushunova – 1.5 to layout, dance out. 9.825

Washington is able to get to 49.075 for that beam, which they’ll be over the moon with given three wobbly routines in there. Utah with a huge 49.575 on floor to get  onto high 197 pace heading to beam.

After 3
Utah 148.300
Washington 147.100

Rotation 4

Morgan – BB – Utah – bhs mount, connects to beat jump – bhs bhs loso series, secure – switch to split, good back leg on switch – full turn – front gainer full, stuck. Very nice. And it’s 9.950.

Pires – FX – Washington – back 1.5 to lay, under control, some legs in layout – switch side 1/2 to popa – double tuck, solid front foot control again – 9.850

Smith – BB – Utah – candle mount, hit – hitch kick to aerial, little shoulder drop lean before split jump – bhs loso, wobble, leg up – swtich, hit – full turn, check – gainer full, bounce back. 9.825

Russon – FX – Washington – split jump 1.5, around, some feet – front lay to front full, under control, leg separation on layout – swtich rignt o split leap full, around – double pike, chest down – 9.825

Gantner – BB – Utah – bhs loso, arm wave to connect to split jump, a bit tight in positions but secure – switch 1/2, way under split, connects to beat jump – full turn, hit – 1.5 dismount, small hop back. 9.875, don’t know how you get up that high if you evaluated the switch 1/2.

McWilliams – FX – Washington – rudi to loso, hit, leg crossing in rudi – straddle jump, good – switch side 1/4 to straddle 3/4 and a stiff leg landing there that kind of jarred herself – double pike, chest down, lunge forward. 9.700

McCallum – BB – Utah – wolf triple, smooth – wolf double, hit – bhs loso, secure – split leap , bit of rhythm into switch – gainer tuck full, off direction and small hop forward. 9.875

Innes – FX – Washington – front 2/1, nice position, slide forward – split leap full to popa is under split on both – back 1.5 to layout, good rise into layout – rudi, under control. Good one. 9.900

Paulson – BB – Utah – beat to side aerial to loso, holds onto it without wobble, feet a little off the beam – switch to split jump – full turn, hit – gainer full, stuck. 9.950

SKW – FX – Washington – front 2/1, gets it, nice form in that first twist – switch leap to switch ring 1/2 – back 1.5 to front lay, under control – 9.900

O’Keefe – BB – Utah – switch to split leap, nice – side aerial to loso, pretty large break, turn to the side and bend at the hips – full turn – gainer full, gets the stick. 9.800

Navarro – FX – Washington – double tuck, good foot position int he air but steppy on landing – switch side to popa is nice – back 1.5 to front lay, but of knees in 1.5, controls again – double pike, some leg separation and feet, hit. 9.850

Utah with 49.475 on beam and ends with a 197.775, a strong road score and their third 197 of the season, but still not that big 198 that others have thrown in. It’s 196.425 for Washington, a hair down on Monday’s score but another useful 196 number that should (?) be above the regionals cutoff mark.

Both Michigan and Minnesota going with the same competitors as last week.

Rotation 1

Jencks – VT – Minnesota – yfull, chest down on landing with a hop forward. 9.650

Vore – UB – Michigan – good first hs – toe on to tkatchev, hit – bail, legs together – maybe borderline final cast hs – DLO, chest forward, step, good. 9.825

Nguyen – VT – Minnesota – yfull, we miss the beginning but looked like a normal one, medium rebound step back. 9.775

Score flashing woman on bars just hit herself in the head with the score. Same.

Wilson – UB – Michigan – blind to piked jaeger, hit – bail, maybe a little hip angle on some of these positions, the bail and the next hs, not the best view – DLO, nice landing, nearly full stick with an arm wave to hold it. 9.775

Pearl – VT – Minnesota – yfull, great amplitude and position but a pretty large bounce back and some direction. 9.725

Zabrowksi – UB – Michigan – blind to jaeger, some foot position – pak, hit – hits hs on high – DLO, short with a step forward. 9.775

Moraw – VT – Minnesota – nice stick on her yfull, good distance – bit of form, solid. 9.900

Morrison – UB – Michigan – good gienger – hits hs on high – bail, legs together well – maybe a bit rushed on final cast hs – DLO, small leg separation, just a little rebound. 9.900

Gerdes – VT – hits her y1.5, little step back, slight knees and direction. 9.900

Bauman – UB – Michigan – toe 1/2 to jaeger to overshoot, excellent amplitude – hits hs on high – blind to double front, good position, small step back. and 9.950 with a no stick.

Hooten – VT – Minnesota – y1.5 with good direction, hop forward. 9.875

Brooks – UB – Michigan – blind to piked jaeger, hit – good hs on high – toe on to bail, good rise – DLO 1/1, small bounce back. 9.900

Both lineups pulled their lives together in the second half there, Minnesota still counting two 9.7s but gets up to 49.175 on vault. Three 9.9s for the last three bars routines get Michigan up to 49.350.

Lipetz with a near fall on her DLO in bars exhibition for Michigan.

Rotation 2

Guggino – VT – Michigan – y1.5, lands a bit short, step back to control. 9.825

Jencks – UB – Minnesota – short first hs, misses her foot on her tow on has does a couple empty swings – now a Ray – short hs on high – clear hip to bail – hits final cast hs – DLO, holds onto landing. 9.500

Mulligan – VT – Michigan – just the yfull today, good open, step back, some leg separation on the block. 9.775

Nguyen – UB – Minnesota – blind to jaeger to overshoot, hit, some knees in the jaeger – a bit shy on cast hs on high – DLO, super deep landing, good job not to make it a fall but knee deep with a big lunge forward. 9.700 and could have been lower.

Morrison – VT – Michigan – y1.5, good, nearly sticks, small hop to the side. 9.900

Sirjord – UB – Minnesota – good first hs – blind to high jaeger to overshoot – giant full, a bit past, into double tuck, step back. 9.775

Wilson – VT – Michigan – y1.5, great height and distance, hop forward. 9.875

Lyden – UB – Minnesota – hits first hs on low – maloney to bail, leg separation in maloney, together in bail – DLO, nice height, hop back. 9.875

Brooks – VT – Michigan – y1.5, small hop forward. 9.900

Gerdes – UB – Minnesota – hits first hs – maloney to bail, legs together throughout, good hs position on high – FTDT, step back. 9.900

Jordan – VT – Michigan – identified as Gabby Wilson on the graphic – yfull, off direction with a step to the side. 9.725

Hooten – UB – Minnesota – blind to piked jaeger to overshoot, good height – hits hs on high – FTDT, little lean to hold the landing, solid. And 9.950.

Like the first rotation, Minnesota pulled it together in the second half there to get up to 49.200 on bars after what could very well have been the equivalent of counting a fall in those first two routines. Michigan goes 49.275 on vault, not quite landing the way they did in warmups when Guggino and Brooks both stuck.

I feel like the Michigan vaulters need to perfect the art of lie-screaming and fist pumping when they don’t stick to try to steal more fake 9.950s.

After 2
Michigan 98.625
Minnesota 98.375

Rotation 3

Michigan has just subbed Vore into floor in place of Morrison.

Koch – BB – Minnesota – full turn – bhs loso, good foot in series, secure – beat to split jump 3/4, big break, large wobble with leg up to horizontal – kickover to scale – 1.5, small step forward. 9.750 with a 9.850/9.650 split. What did 9.850 even take for that big wobble? Zero?

Bauman – FX – Michigan – front 2/1, controls the step – switch 1/2 to wolf full to wolf full, around, a little more than around – back 1.5 to front lay, controls – 9.850

Pearl – BB – Minnesota – bhs loso, secure – full turn, smooth – switch to straddle 1/4, hit – aerial, smoothly connected into beat jump – gainer full, just a little rebound. Nice. 9.800. That is an, um, interesting lack of separation between those first two beam scores.

Mulligan – FX – Michigan – front tuck to double tuck, bounce back, keeps it in bounds – switch side 1/4 to straddle jump – double pike, leg separation, chest somewhat down with a step. 9.750

Moraw – BB – Minnesota – full turn, good – bhs loso, check, leg up – side aerial, secure – straddle jump to straddle 3/4, hit – gainer full, step back. 9.800

Guggino – FX – Michigan – front loso to double pike, slightly deep, slide back – switch side and a little to straddle 3/4 – front lay to rudi, controls step back. 9.875

Gerdes – BB – Minnesota – aerial, holds it – bhs loso, secure – full turn, a little whippy but fine – split jump, little pause before stag ring, solid – gainer full, step back. 9.800

Brooks – FX – Michigan – open FTDT, controls well, chest up – tuck jump full – split leap full to jump full, around, a little shy on the leap? – front tuck through to double tuck, also solid control. 9.925

Sirjord – BB – Minnesota – candle mount, hit – full turn – bhs loso, solid – switch to stag ring with an arm wave – gainer full, legs apart, holds landing, good. 9.825

Wilson – FX – Michigan – open FTDT, little movement back – switch side 1/2 to straddle, excellent amplitude – front lay to rudi, good form, somewhat out of control on landing. 9.900, also how was that so close to Brooks’ score

Horak – BB – Minnesota – bhs loso, nice – pike jump to split 1/2, check – loso, lean correction – full turn – gainer full, stuck. 9.800. And we have another 2 tenth split, 9.7 to 9.9 for that one.

Vore – FX – Michigan – double pike, hit, a bit of feet – switch side 1/2 to straddle – back 1.5 to front full, a little underroated with a step, some knees. 9.775

Well that was weird, right? I do not know what to make of that beam judging. Michigan extends the lead with 49.325 on floor thanks to a couple 9.9s. Minnesota goes 49.025 on beam because everything ends up the same 9.8?

After 3:
Michigan 147.950
Minnesota 147.400

Naomi Morrison is being helped off with her foot all swaddled. Do not like, do not accept.

Rotation 4

We resolved Lauren Pearl’s beam to 9.875, which makes more sense comparatively.

Mulligan – BB – Michigan – full turn, hit – cat leap to aerial, keeps moving to bhs – beat to straddle jump 1/2, solid – side aerial, large break, bend at the hips past horizontal – tuck 1.5 dismount, small step. 9.650

Jencks – FX – Minnesota – front 2/1, under control, some knee – switch 1/2 to popa, nice – back 1.5 to front lay – rudi, rebound, lack of control. 9.775

Guggino – BB – Michigan – full turn, hit – bhs loso, secure landing – straddle jump to straddle 1/2, a little tight in position but solid – side somi, small arm correction – 1.5 dismount, step. 9.850

Pearl – FX – Minnesota – back 1.5 to front lay, good rise in layout – switch side 1/2 to straddle 1/2 – switch, good position – double pike, bounce. 9.900

Wilson – BB – Michigan – bhs loso, high, small lean correction – switch split jumps, hit – full turn – double tuck, great stick. 9.950

Johnson – FX – Minnesota – wolf jump 1.5 attempt, not all the way around and short in position, bounce – front full to 1/2, under control – switch side and a bit into popa – double tuck, quick present. 9.900 pretty forgiving for the first wolf

Vore – BB – Michigan – bhs loso, wobble, leg up slightly – full turn, hit – kickover, holds it – straddle jump to split 1/2, solid – 1.5 dismount, some knees but holds the landing well. 9.775

Gerdes – FX – Minnesota – front tuck to double tuck, good height, rebound – switch ring to split leap full to jump full, not quite up there – double pike, small bounce, some chest position. 9.925. We’re really rising in Hootencipation here one thinks.

Bauman – BB – Michigan – full turn, hit – bhs loso, solid – sissone to switch 1/2 to beat, on – side somi, small first foot adjustment – gainer pike, solid. 9.900

Koch – FX – Minnesota – front 2/1, controls – split leap full to wolf full, pulls it around – back 1.5 to front lay, quick dance out, solid lay position – rudi, little rebound. 9.925

Brooks – BB – Michigan – bhs loso loso, solid – switch to beat, hit – kickover is secure – bhs 2/1, some knee form, little movement. 9.950

Hooten – FX – Minnesota – FTDT, under control – switch side and a 1/4 on the way down into straddle 3/4 – front full to high front pike – double tuck, controls front foot. Oh look she got a 10.

Minnesota goes 49.650 on floor to get over the 197 mark on 197.175. Michigan wins with 197.375.
