We start with Alabama’s visit to LSU, where LSU doesn’t really need to get anything out of this meet since they already have three home 198s (except for all that SEC WIN YAY PRIDE or whatever). But you know, some solid 199 nonsense would make it harder for Cal to pass them tomorrow. Alabama, meanwhile, would guarantee a spot in next week’s top 8 with a 197.925 today.

Alabama was able to get the score last week despite the Doggette injury, but it’s still an unmistakable bummer for those vault and bars lineups. We’ll see how they fare today.

If a former UCLA gymnast welcomes you to a broadcast and doesn’t say, “Iron sharpens iron,” does it count? Sam and Janay, every week. Did Val make them write that 100 times in a row on a chalkboard?

Rotation 1

KJ Johnson – VT – LSU – yfull, great height, small hop to the side. 9.875

Gladieux – UB – Alabama – a bit shy on first hs – jaeger, hit – hits hs on high – pak, good height – solid vertical finish on 1/2 turn on low – some hip angle in these casts – giant full to double tuck, finds the stick, didn’t think she would have the height but she got it. 9.800

Finnegan – VT – LSU – y1.5, medium hop forward, solid, a bit of knee. 9.875, so one judge only took for landing.

LaCoursiere – UB – Alabama – maloney, legs together well into pak, pretty elements – van leeuwen, smooth – FTDT, small hop back. 9.875

Drayton – VT – LSU – y1.5, lands short, two steps back. Still gets 9.725.

Waligora – UB – Alabama – blind to jaeger, high, too much and falls – restarts, tries the blind, loses her leg position and can’t get over and hops off again – starts for a third time, does the blind to jaeger to overshoot and hits – DLO, hop back.

Brock – VT – LSU – into the lineup today – just the full but good form overall, small hop, small pike. 9.875, I think should have been a bit lower than Johnson’s full, which was more laid out and dynamic.

Long wait to get an 8.400 for Waligora.

Adams – UB – Alabama – maloney to pak, good legs together – 1/2 turn on low, some body angle and hesitation – a bit shy on hs on high – giant full, little back arch, into double tuck, holds stick with lean. Not her cleanest but hit. 9.800

Kiya Johnson – VT – LSU – DTY, good one, small step to the side, little bit of pike, leg separation on block. 9.875

Blanco – UB – Alabama – good first hs on low – maloney to pak, good – van leeuwen, leg form nice – a bit rushed on final cast hs – FTDT, slightly deep, shuffle back. 9.850

Bryant – VT – LSU – handspring pike 1/2, nearly found the stick, just a touch forward with some foot movement. 9.950.

Machado – UB – Alabama – good first hs on high – hits pak – toe on to van leeuwen, good amplitude – toe full, pretty far past vertical, into double tuck, stuck. 9.875

LSU vaults 49.450 in the first rotation, not a season high for them but solid. Had a short vault from Drayton in there, only a full from Brock, no one nailed it but good scores. Alabama survived the 8.4 but will end up counting a couple somewhat raggedy 9.800s for 49.200.

Of LSU’s nine vault rotations so far, this score ranks 5th. Of Alabama’s nine bars rotations so far, this score ranks 8th.

Rotation 2

Sears – VT – Alabama – yfull, good height, little lean forward to hold a stick, can take for distance. 9.875 is comparatively high.

Jeffrey – UB – LSU – maloney to bail, legs together – hits cast hs on high – FTDT, high, close to the bar, usual deeper landing but holds it with a lean. 9.875

Hudson – VT – Alabama – y1.5, hit, lands a bit stiff with a bound forward. 9.825

Cowan – UB – LSU – Ray to overshoot, solid height, but close? – shorter final cast hs – DLO, good stick. 9.925

Bunagan – VT – Alabama – OK here we go, y1.5 – lands it, fairly large step to the side, loses leg and foot form at the end. 9.775

Johnson – UB – LSU – maloney with a little leg separation into a solid bail – some elbows in cast – toe on – DLO, high, finds the stick. 9.900

Blanco – VT – Alabama – y1.5, pretty, finds the stick, a little bit of direction and not as far as some others. 9.900

McClain – UB – LSU – good first hs – Church to pak, hit – 1/2 turn on low, within her 20 – hits hs on high – FTDT, nearly stuck but then took two small steps. 9.900

Gladieux – VT – Alabama – yfull, good dynamics but then basically college saluted herself into a step back she probably didn’t need. 9.800

Tatum – UB – LSU – good first hs – Ray to pak, hit, leg separation in pak and some foot flexing in ray – 1/2 turn on low – shorter hs on high – FTDT, small step. 9.950? With a 10 from one judge? Hi, she didn’t stick and there were other things.

Lacoursiere – VT – Alabama – y1.5, takes it way off to the side, lands out of the area with a small hop and then a lean arm wave to try to avoid any more and some knees. 9.825 is a lot. That’s what Hudson scored.

Bryant – UB – LSU – good first hs – blind to jaeger is nice – hits hs on high – bail, clean – double front 1/2 out, some leg separation but not too much, finds the stick. 9.975

LSU goes 49.650 on bars for a fine-to-good rotation that got pretty crazy in there. A 10 for Tatum’s routine is going to stick with me. A few more sticks in that lineup than we’ve seen lately. Alabama still mired in the 49.2s with a 49.225 on vault, with enough landing trouble that it still feels like they got away with a score there.

After 2
LSU 99.100
Alabama 98.425

Rotation 3

I want a Bad Lip Reading of Ballard and Gnat before beam.

Ballard – BB – LSU – bhs loso, some feet in bhs, solid position on loso, secure landing – full turn – sissone, under, into a high switch 1/2 – kickover, secure – 1.5 dismount with a wild arm wave to try to control, ends up with a step back into salute, so should not be considered a stick, and had arm control in addition. 9.825

Waligora – FX – Alabama – front lay to front 2/1, some knee form and a crossover step – split leap full to wolf full, gets a little low on the wolf full position – back 1.5 to front lay, very clean front lay position. 9.875. LSU is going to get a 50 on floor aren’t they?

Jeffrey – BB – LSU – wolf single, good – cat leap to switch side, lean correction – bhs loso, secure – standing front tuck, a little forward, holds the landing – 1.5 dismount, stuck. 9.900

Burgess – FX – Alabama – double pike, chest up well, small front foot adjustment – double tuck, chest slightly forward but shows up in a step – switch side 1/2 to a straddle 3/4ish, comes up under rotated – front full, doesn’t get any punch in combination, does a front tuck out of it with a large lunge forward

McClain – BB – LSU – switch to switch 1/2, solid – aerial to bhs, lovely positions – wolf jump – full turn, smooth – side aerial, lean correction – gainer full, stuck. 9.875. We’re not doing it right if this routine, even with a legit .10 balance correction, is scoring lower than civilians.

Judges having a “what is this number that isn’t a 10?” conversation about Burgess on floor. 9.450/9.750 split. 9.600 in the end.

Machado – FX – Alabama – double tuck, hit, flexed feet – wolf triple, lovely low position there and on the double – back 1.5 to front lay, hit, a little low on amplitude – switch to switch 1/2 – 9.825

Johnson – BB – LSU – full turn, slightly hesitant on finish – bhs loso, secure, front foot adjustment though, but confident and solid pass – switch to switch – kickover, little arm wave – 2/1, holds the stick, very tiny lean. 9.875

Hudson – FX – Alabama – front lay to front 2/1, nice form, little much on the slide – switch 1/2 to wolf full, good one – double tuck, bounce back – 9.875

Bryant – BB – LSU – aerial to bhs, smooth – switch to straddle 1/4 – full turn – front tuck, lean correction, let’s give it another 10 – rudi, lands just a hair forward. 9.925

Blanco – FX – Alabama – front 2/1 to front tuck, lovely front 2/1, the tuck comes out a little flat with a bounce – double tuck, bounce back – good split positions shown – front full to front lay. 9.875

Finnegan – BB – LSU – bhs loso loso, high, excellent – switch to split, good back leg positions – full turn – aerial, wobble, leg leaves the beam – gainer full, hit. 9.875

Gladieux – FX – Alabama – FTDT, a bit of front foot movement on landing – split leap full to popa, great height –  front lay to rudi to split jump, high, some travel back. And it’s 9.950. Foreshadowing.

49.450 for LSU for a perfectly useful beam rotation with some wobblies. They now need 49.575 on floor to make this a counting score, which would be kind of low for them at a home meet this season.

Alabama gets to 49.400 on floor, putting them on 147.825. That means they can’t meet that 197.925 goal but can still make this a counting score with anything better than 49.300 on beam.

After 3:
LSU 148.550
Alabama 147.825

Meanwhile, Georgia finishes vault with a stick from Ady Wahl on her y1.5, some leg separation on block, good distance, a little flatter than others. And it goes 9.950. For a 49.300 vault.

Auburn finishes bars with Greaves, hits her Church to pak combination – van leeuwen, little leg separation, shy cast hs on high – FTDT, some legs apart, hop to the side. And it goes 9.900. For a 49.175 bars.

Rotation 4

Hudson – BB – Alabama – aerial to bhs, hit, collapses a little in the elbows on that bhs but gets it securely – full turn – switch to switch – switch 1/2 – 1.5 dismount, small hop. 9.850

McClain – FX – LSU – DLO, nice in the air, little rebound – switch to switch leap full, great positions – back 1.5 to front full, crossover step but will be glad it was a crossover since a step forward would have gone OOB. 9.925. Had enough landing errors that this was an opportunity to go into the 9.8s to create some actual separation, but no

Waligora – BB – Alabama – full turn – bhs loso, chest lower but secure – side aerial, solid – split jump to tuck jump full, scoots around the end of the turn – 1.5 dismount, leans forward to try to hold, steps. 9.850

Drayton – FX – LSU – DLO, chest a bit down at the end, bounce back – front tuck through to double tuck, holds onto the stick but chest forward – wolf single and a bit – switch ring to switch 1/2, good – also 9.925, should have been a little lower than McClain’s for me  –

Burgess – BB – Alabama – one arm bhs to loso, secure – side aerial, hit – switch – beat to switch side – gainer pike, stuck. 9.950

KJ Johnson – FX – LSU – FTDT, under control, good – back 1.5 to a lovely layout position, controls the step – switch side to popa, we cut during the leap series so couldn’t really tell on landing position – double tuck, small rebound. And it’s 9.975. Let’s get weird. Oh wait, we already were.

Gladieux – BB – Alabama – bhs to lay-pike, secure – aerial, controls into beat jump with her arm wave – switch to split, hit – 2/1, some leg crossing, stuck. Good. 9.900

Finnegan – FX – LSU – double arabian to stag jump, hit – switch ring to split full, nice – back 2.5 to front tuck, also saves her step forward from going OOB with that correction crossover step. 9.950. At least they didn’t go 10. You know you kind of thought they would.

Adams – BB – Alabama – good wolf work – aerial, nice height – bhs loso, wobble, bend at the hips – switch to split jump – bhs 1.5 dismount, little hop. 9.875

Bryant – FX – LSU – good control on double front – switch to switch 1/1, a little under but one of her better completion positions on that leap – controls her landing on the rudi. And it’s a 10. You knew we were getting there. I think it was her best of the year, leap still a little under for me though.

Blanco – BB – Alabama – aerial, pretty – full turn, little correction – bhs loso loso, another small lean correction – switch to beat, pretty – 1.5 dismount, up onto toes. 9.925

Ballard – FX – LSU – DLO, hit under control – back 1.5, rough punch, comes out flat to do a front tuck – switch ring to switch 1/2, a little low – double pike, holds onto it, chest a bit forward

Alabama is done on 197.325, not huge at this point in the season but does increase their NQS a little. LSU finishes with 198.325, their #2 home score of the season, also increasing their NQS a bit.

Alabama temporarily goes ahead of Michigan State, depending on what their final score ends up being. But Michigan State did get 49.475 on vault with a 10 from Nikki Smith. So there’s that.

In other news, Levasseur just stuck a Y1.5 for Oklahoma for 9.975. Oklahoma ends up vaulting a 49.525, but will only have a minimal lead on Michigan, which just barsed a 49.500.

As we wait for the second rotation, Aly is having a Kathy about Audrey Davis’s bars. “Some people are very nitpicky and worried.” It me. LOTS of campaigning for this 10.

Rotation 2

Jordan – VT – Michigan – yfull, off to the side, chest forward, step. 9.725

Sievers – UB – Oklahoma – hits first hs – maloney to pak, smooth – maybe a bit rushed on 1/2 turn on low – good hs on high – FTDT, stuck landing. Solid. 9.950 is a big start. Clean routine, but we’ll see later routines with more amplitude/crisper positions etc.

Mulligan – VT – Michigan – doing the full – some bounce back, leg separation in the air. 9.775

Levasseur – UB – Oklahoma – tkatchev, hit, not the highest but nice position – bail, nice toe point – good cast hs on high – giant full, into double tuck, stuck. Lovely. 9.975, here we goeth.

Guggino – VT – Michigan – hits her y1.5 today, medium hop forward. 9.875

Torrez – UB – Oklahoma – Ray, hit – toe on to pak, high, very small leg break – hits her 1/2 turn on low – nice hs on high – DLO, some leg separation, small slide back. 9.900

Wilson – VT – Michigan – good height on y1.5, step forward, good direction. 9.825

Smith – UB – OU – ray to pak, hit, small leg break in pak – hits hs on high – DLO, little piking, lands chest forward with a small step. 9.900

Brooks – VT – Michigan – very strong y1.5, nearly finds the stick, small movement to the side and some direction. 9.875

Davis – UB – OU – hecht mount – nice hs on high – higgins to piked jaeger, good – pak, legs together well – 1/2 turn on low, strong – hits hs on high – higgins to double front 1/2, finds the stick with the usual leg stagger. 9.975.

Kind of did think they would do it today with how the scores started, but I’m the grinch who doesn’t think the dismount should get a 10.

Thaxton – VT – Michigan – yfull, pretty large bounce back and pike throughout. 9.725

Bowers – UB – OU – good first hs – blind to piked jaeger, some elbows on catch, just a little close – pak, lovely – hits 1/2 turn on low – good hs on high – FTDT, small step. 9.925, a little high for me with the close catch and the step.

Michigan has to count two 9.7s in this depleted vault lineup to end up on 49.075 to depress the scoring potential. Oklahoma does 49.725 on bars, which is only their 2nd-best of the year, only on pace for 198.500.

After 2:
Oklahoma 99.250
Michigan 98.575

UCLA/Stanford is underway. Dean opens vault for Stanford with a yfull, chest forward, little bounce to the side. 9.800 is a high start there.

Campbell opens on bars for UCLA with good first hs, maloney to bail, little leg break on maloney, nice hs on high – double front, cowboy, holds onto landing with a lean forward. Where’s my tennnnnnnnnn. 9.875

Zeng – VT – Stanford – higher on the yfull but some more knee form and a bigger hop to the side. 9.725

Malabuyo – UB – UCLA – in on bars and beam today – girl take a nap or something – maloney to pak, close on pak and can’t work out of it, has to hop off – tries to resume with a half turn and goes over on it again. Janelle’s like, wait. Does finish with DLO.

Rotation 3 in Oklahoma

Davis – BB – OU – nice full turn – bhs loso, secure, just a bit of knee – aerial, smooth – beat to split ring jump, a hair low on front leg, pretty overall – 2/1, stuck with some knees. Solid. 9.975 is where we’re starting, so hello.

Mulligan – FX – Michigan – front tuck through to double tuck, chest up, controls step back – switch side 1/2 to straddle to shushunova – doubel pike, a bit deep, hop to the side. 9.875

Some kind of vault delay at Stanford?

Wells – BB – OU – change leg side aerial, hit – full turn – switch to switch split jump, short back leg and a wobble – bhs loso, another lean wobble working out of it – 1.5 dismount, holds stick with lean. 9.825

Guggino – FX – Michigan – front loso to double pike-tuck?, some soft knees, rebound – switch side to popa – front lay to rudi, good height, lands chest forward with a hop to the side. 9.875

Bowers – BB – OU – full turn – bhs loso, nice leg position – split leap to switch 1/2, hit – 2/1, some leg crossing, small hop back. 9.950

Brooks – FX – Michigan – FTDT with a large rebound back today – tuck jump full – split leap full to split jump full, nice completion and height – front tuck to double tuck, more under control. 9.925 with that big old bounce.

Aly’s like, “There’s something to be said for fully phoning in your dance and just focusing on the tumbling, like a proper elite.”

Torrez – BB – OU – wolf jump, hit – side aerial to loso, solid, minor bit of feet – switch to straddle, nice – gainer full, does hold the stick, a little back on her heels. And it’s another 9.975. This rotation score that’s on the way.

Wilson – FX – Michigan – FTDT, good chest up and control – switch side 1/2 to popa, comfortable – front lay to rudi, chest forward, controls the step nonetheless but forward. 9.925

Levasseur – BB – OU – full turn, good – bhs loso, lovely series – switch to straddle 1/4, controls with her arm – cat leap to aerial, smooth – gainer full, almost had it, arm circle with a step back, was almost able to fake it like Torrez but couldn’t. 9.900

Thaxton – FX – Michigan – front tuck through to double tuck, some foot but solid, chest up – some footwork into switch side 1/2 ish to straddle jump – double pike, secure landing, chest forward. 9.825

Smith – BB – OU – bhs loso, smooth – aerial, solid – straddle 1/2 to korbut, excellent – full turn – bhs gainer full, little rebound, we’ll see if they decide to see it. Oh look they didn’t. Another 10 for Ragan. Not her 10iest dismount.

Michigan went with only five on floor but got 49.425 there to help the assignment. Oklahoma gets 49.800 on beam for the second straight meet, which ties the team record again. It’s a lovely beam rotation that should get 9.9s. Obviously today was a lot.

After 3:
Oklahoma 149.050
Michigan 148.000

So Oklahoma is looking at needing 49.625 to tie that record from last weekend.

Meanwhile, UCLA was able to drop the customary one fall on bars to go 49.400 there. Reed is 5th on vault with a large bound forward on her Y1.5. 9.775

Alexeeva fifth on bars for Stanford, toe on 1/2 to piked jaeger, gorgeous – pak, hit – DLO, high, hop back. Nice one. 9.825

Also Georgia scored 197.550 to beat Auburn’s 196.900.

Harris – VT – UCLA – y1.5, short landing with a big lunge back. 9.725

Widner – UB – Stanford – tkatchev, good toe point – giant full, solid vertical into bail, legs together – DLO, small step back. 9.900

UCLA stuck on just 49.100 on vault. No Rosen today and both Reed and Harris struggled to control their 1.5s. Stanford goes 49.175 on bars to gain a little ground, trailing by .3 at halfway.

Rotation 4 in Oklahoma

Mulligan – BB – Michigan – full turn, hit – cat leap to aerial, nice front leg position – bhs loso, secure – beat to split 1/2 – bhs tuck 1.5, stuck. Some foot things, but a very solid routine. 9.900

Davis – FX – OU – front 2/1, controls her step – switch 1/2 to wolf full to sissone, hits positions – back 1.5 to front full, little crossover on the step – slight knee things, solid routine. 9.900

Guggino – BB – Michigan – full turn – bhs loso, solid, good height – straddle to straddle jump 1/2, on – side somi, secure – bhs 1.5, under and a step back. 9.850

Johnson – FX – OU – front lay to rudi, controls her front leg, some hip position – double tuck, nice feet, little rebound – switch 1/2, slightly under split, to wolf full. 9.875

Wilson – BB – Michigan – hitch kick – bhs loso, solid, great height – switch split jumps, secure – double tuck, step back. 9.850

Smith – FX – OU – double tuck, great position in the air, slide back – 1.5 to front lay, good rise in layout – switch side overturns a little into wolf full – double pike, under control. 9.925

Vore – BB – Michigan – bhs loso with a wobble, leg leaves the beam, arm wave – full turn – kickover, secure – straddle jump to split jump 1/2, good position on split, wobble – good stick on 1.5 dismount, some knee. 9.825

Levasseur – FX – OU – FTDT, chest forward on landing – switch side 1/2 to popa, lovely positions – 1.5 to half to straddle, good control – 9.925

Bauman – BB – Michigan – full turn – bhs loso, right on and then leans moving out of it – sissone, good back leg – split to straddle jump 1/2, break, leg up wobble to horizontal – side somi, nice – gainer pike, hop back. 9.825

Torrez – FX – OU – DLO, good stick, some chest position – leg up full, great – split leap full to wolf jump full, maybe a hair under on split leap back leg – front tuck through to double tuck, little rebound. 9.900

Brooks – BB – Michigan – bhs loso loso, solid – switch to beat, solid – full turn, hit – kickover, correction with arm wave – 2/1 dismount, holds onto the landing mostly with a little quiver in the leg. 9.900

Bowers – FX – OU – front 2/1 to front tuck, under control, nice – double pike, great as always, bounce back – switch to switch 1/2 to wolf full, lovely positions. 9.950

Michigan finishes on 197.325, which will not count for NQS for them, but they will be able to stay ahead of MSU and Alabama because they didn’t get quite the scores they need.

Oh no! Oklahoma went 49.600 on floor to end on 198.650, which is under last week’s 198.675. But it does help them set a new all-time NQS record on 198.420 with four meets still to count.

Anyway, Alexeeva got 9.950 on beam so everything is OK. UCLA is going for a bit of a depth options floor lineup with Lashbrooke and Irvine in today. They’ll be counting a couple 9.825s already. Harris us up 5th, finishes her routine with a solid back 1.5 to 1/2 to double stag. 9.825

Widner – BB – Stanford – switch to split jump, good attention to back leg position – bhs loso, secure – aerial to split jump, points toe in front aerial – full turn, looks like a wobble – gainer full, hop back. 9.850

Reed – FX – UCLA – DLO, came in a tad short with a little rebound – split leap full to wolf jump full – front lay to rudi, controls the front foot. 9.925

UCLA goes 49.275 on floor to Stanford’s 49.250 on beam, so extends the lead very slightly.

After 3:
UCLA 147.775
Stanford 147.450

We now know that UCLA would need a 49.450 on beam now to move ahead of any teams in the rankings this week.

Rotation 4

Lee – BB – UCLA – aerial to split jump, nice – bhs loso, secure, good feet positions throughout – switch to straddle, I assume it was fine because all we could see was her face – full turn, little hesitation – gainer full, stuck. 9.900

Dean – FX – Stanford – what was the initiation of this first pass? Ends up a little under with a hop to the side – switch full – back 1.5 to front full, solid stick, some knees – switch 1/2 to popa, good switch, gets a little lower in the popa. 9.850

Rosen – BB – UCLA – switch to split to double stag, small pauses between  elements, check at the end – aerial, very small lean – bhs loso is smooth – full turn –  1.5 dismount, little hop. 9.925 with a 9.850/10.000 split is fun. HOWWWW do we get to 10? She didn’t stick and had two wobbles.

OK it was actually 9.825 and that 10 judge was actually a 9.800. But the fact that I believed it…

And now it’s 9.800. Soon, this routine will be a fall.

And now it’s back to 9.825

Cluck – FX – Stanford – DLO, chest a bit down – back 1.5 to front pike, a little under on the pike landing – switch 1/2 to popa, around, some feet – double tuck, stumble back, a couple steps. 9.700 with a 9.800/9.600 split.

Andres – BB – UCLA – beat to switch 1/2, secure – kickover to korbut, connected – 2/1, good height, some knees, step back. 9.850

Robinson – FX – Stanford – good double pike position – double tuck, some chest position – double turn to double turn, OK now – back 1.5 to 1/2 to straddle jump, lower on the 1/2 and pikes it some – switch 1/2 to wolf full, under, tries to wrench around the wolf full. 9.775

Campbell – BB – UCLA – wolf single, hit – bhs loso, hit – split leap to switch 1/2 to beat, under on switch 1/2 position but secure – split jump to straddle 1/4, secure – gainer full, stuck. Chae figuring out beam is a none-too-soon development for this team. 9.875

Neault – FX – Stanford – double pike, secure, chest down – switch to split ring full, around – rudi, hit, knee position – back 1.5 to front lay, struggles on the lay and has to tuck to get it to her feet. Gets 9.850s from both.

Harris – BB – UCLA – bhs loso bhs, solid – switch to split leap to full turn, connected – kickover, solid – 1.5 dismount, little hop forward. 9.875

Nguyen – FX – Stanford – DLO, good amplitude, controls her front foot – switch side and a bit into popa – back 2.5 to front pike. 9.875

Malabuyo – BB – UCLA – wolf single – bhs loso, check – aerial to beat jump, nice – split jump to split ring jump, under control – gainer full, hop back. 9.925 with a wobble and a hop to say we hope you make the Olympics.

Widner – FX – Stanford – front lay to front full, good height – switch full and it’s pretty – double pike, great landing – switch 1/2 to popa, great split positions

It’s 197.175 for UCLA, which will increase their NQS but not by enough to catch anyone in the rankings.

Widner’s 9.925 on floor takes Stanford to 196.725, a useful home score that will prospectively but them in 21st with lots of results still to happen this weekend.

  1. Mati Waligora adjusted her grips mid-routine (3rd attempt). Wondering if they’re feeling strange.

  2. Showing the judges conference on floor as Konnor McClain’s beam score flashes with its 9.8/9.95 split is ART

    1. They deserve to win this meet, but by much closer to 0.5 than the full point plus they’re going to manage. The relative scoring is silly.

  3. What is going on with this UCLA beam scoring and all these changes and mismatches?

  4. I love when this Pac 12 camera man is like “You don’t want to see the gymnastics right, just a close shot of the gymnasts face?”

  5. Halfway through ASU’s floor rotation, I can already tell you Jade is getting a 10

    1. Wow, the judges were restrained and only went 9.975.

Okay, I’m biased, but how on earth did Jade score higher than Sarah Clark and equivalent to Emily White on beam?

  6. I realize that Oklahoma is the best team to date, but some of these scores are completely outrageous with obvious slides steps, wobbles, etc. and not scoring under 9.9. Did, they deserve to win, absolutely, but their scores are completely inflated. LSU, majorly inflated, and Jade, Carey, as always, inflated. Scoring 9.9. The outcomes were correct, but we scores directly affect NQS A little more realism needs to be applied.

  7. After watching the LSU meet, I really hope that whoever scored the last craziness on YouTube scores this one also. I may not be a judge, but have been watching college, gymnastics for over 20 years, and these scores were nuts. I had LSU at at least .425 lower Than the final score, and I wasn’t even being particularly harsh. Strange healthy LSU scores are so much higher at home. Scored fairly they would still have high meet totals, just not insane. I agree also with Jan about the Oklahoma meet. Again about ,4 too high. The craziness seems to escalate for certain teams all season. Both teams compete with beautiful Gymnastics, but the judges need to implement a little reality into their scores.

  8. Just watched the Cal Utah meet, and kind of disappointed that Spencer did not do commentary. Cal, I believe was the better team, but the distance between them was not as great things that Utah was deducted for Cal did not seem to be deducted for flight wobbles cross feet flexed feet, etc.. This seems to be a pattern with Cal this year, and it would have been great to have Spencer‘s perspective. Again I do believe Cal was the better team, but the disparity between the two was not indicated by the scores. If anyone else watch the meet, I would appreciate their comments. The Pac 12 rematch in a few weeks should be interesting. For judges, as opposed to two seem to straighten things out a bit

    1. I agree. I was at the meet and Cal wasn’t getting the same deductions as Utah for the same errors. Maybe Cal was a slightly better team but certainly not .4 better. The judging wasn’t consistent and that’s frustrating but it’s happening all over the country this season.
