2025 US Classic – Senior Session 1

Everyone in today’s first session of the senior classic is still looking for a qualifying score to advance to nationals. That means a 52.000 AA, 39.600 three-event, or 26.800 two-event.

Also, I will be watching the France/Germany Euros game at the same time, so if I start talking about Dabritz, it doesn’t mean Georgia Dabritz made an elite comeback. But also maybe she did.

Also we really need to figure out a reliable live scoring situation at US meets now that myusagym died. It looks like we’re here today, which is working.

Rotation 1

Pierson – BB – hits the split onto the beam mount that gave her trouble at American classic – hits double wolf with arm wave – secure on the loso loso series – switch to sissone, solid sissone position – aerial, some knee form, a check after – side somi, small foot slide adjustment – side aerial, hit – 2/1, leg crossing, small hop forward. Good improvement. 12.900

Moll 13.100 on vault. Bounce back yfull.

Bradford – UB – toe full – maloney to pak, fine – solid hs – van leeuwen, leg separation – gets the 1/2 turn into jaeger, far away but hits it – double tuck, hop back. 12.800

Damelio 13.300 bars. Wittenberg 13.000 VT. Small bounce than Moll but more pike

Buddendeck – BB – bhs mount, arm wave – bhs loso, hit, chest down, small wobble – switch to switch 1/2, really nice back leg on the switch, very viable switch 1/2 – aerial to split to korbut, shorter split position there – full turn, wobble – side aerial, check – switch side, arm wave but again good horizontal side split position and nice foot form – double pike, chest down, step forward. 13.450

M. Milton vaults ro 1/2 on Lay (?) 1/2 with a lot of pike and a bounce to the side off the mat. I think it was intended to be laid out? But definitely pike credit. 12.400.

Tressel – UB – Ricna taken way too far and falls – resumes with a jaeger, – straddles and pikes and pauses her way through a toe full to pak – struggles again on cast hs with a straddle and recast – toe shoot – strong ftdt to finish but a rough one.

Westerman on beam hits a side aerial – gainer tuck full, hop forward.

Visconti was going through a pretty clean bars but landed her double pike dismount way way low with lunges forward.

Eichman – BB – loso mount, hit with some form – bhs loso loso, wobble, keeps it on, some feet – switch to switch 1/2, pause before back tuck – side aerial to split, check before straddle – full turn, check – front full, hop back.

How do they expect me to focus on gymnastics when we have a hair pull red card at Euros???

Nice double front bars dismount from Damelio in replay.

Esponda – BB – wolf double nicely done – back tuck, secure – bhs bhs, hit with slide back, some pike in layout position – switch, check – side aerial, pauses connection to split and straddle, large break, bend forward past horizontal – double pike dmt, good height, chest down hop forward.

Buddendeck leads after the first rotation with that 13.450 beam.

Rotation 2

Buddendeck – FX – 3/1 way under, large lunge to the side but don’t think a knee down – memmel turn attempt, falls out of it but good leg up position – split leap 1.5, not bad completion – back 1.5 to front lay, has to straddle and tuck the layout – switch ring nice to switch side 1/2 – double pike, chest down, lunge back. 12.650

Westerman – FX – attempts Gomez, gets three turns, falls out of the fourth midway – 2.5 to front lay, legs apart on layout, low and form to get it around – switch 12 to split full, solid switch 1/2 – back 1.5 to front full, knees, step back – popa, a little low, pulls it around – double pike, chest down, pretty secure landing. 12.900

Guy – UB – weiler to jaeger, hit, feet – toe 1/2 to pause to second 1/2 – pak – van leeuwen, hit, small leg break – sticks double tuck dismount

Tressel – BB – front tuck mount, larger wobble, lean and arm wave, keeps it out – switch to split to a shorter straddle – bhs loso, falls – punch front, check – aerial, check – little hesitation into dismount, hits double tuck, lower landing

Esponda – FX – double double tuck is landed, step back – DLO, hit, chest forward – wolf 3.5 just cuz, good security – split jump fullish – punch 1/2 to double tuck, fun – switch to split leap full, around – double pike, bounce back. That will have the D score and is a hit. 13.950 is a big one.

Valdenarro – BB – bhs loso loso and falls – aerial with arm wave check to straddle and split – wolf single – switch to sissone – side somi – bhs bhs just a back layout dismount

Pierson – FX – ftdt, some leg separation, only a small bounce back – back 1.5 to front full, hop forward – wolf double, around – switch 1/2, shorter back leg – double tuck, hit – switch to split leap full, good switch position –

Damelio – BB – bhs mount, hit – bhs loso, secure – aerial little pause before split to straddle to korbut, good split position feet – wolf double, gets it around but stands up out of it at the end with a hesitation – onodi, hit, just a bit of knee – switch, love it – 2/1, bounce back. Some hesitations but really nice technique.

Halfway through Esponda leads after that big 13.950 on floor with 26.250, then Buddendeck on 26.100, Pierson on 25.850, Damelio 25.750, Moll 25.650.

26.000 would be right on pace for the AA qualifying score, so only Esponda and Buddendeck are on track right now, and only just.

Rotation 3

M Milton – front tuck mount, hit – pause before split and straddle – bhs loso, solid leg position – switch – switch 1/2 under, check – aerial, knee position and arm wave wobble lean – side aerial, same lean – full turn, good – side somi, chest way forward and falls – 2/1 dmt, step back

Visconti with a 2.5 on floor that straddles at the end – wolf single – switch 1/2 low front leg – double tuck, larger bounce back

Westerman hits Y1.5 on vault with a lunge forward.

Moll – BB – layout 2 feet mount is fun, check – bhs loso loso, little check, nice confidence – aerial – pause in combination to straddle – full turn – side aerial, chest forward, lean – switch, arm wave – switch side with a lean back correction – double pike, step back. Checks, but she’s one who has impressed today.

Esponda 13.650 on vault for a DTY. Straddled landing with a lunge back. Pierson follows with solid y.15 hop forward for 13.550. Buddendeck pikes her yfull some for 12.800.

Damelio – FX – whip to triple, nice form, under rotated with step to the side – memmel turn – switch ring – split leap full, 1/2 turns after landing to try to fake a 1.5, respect the game- 1.5 to front fulls, knees and a little low but hit – solid wolf turn position – double tuck, clean, step back

Wittenberg finishes beam with double tuck, lands in a sphere position but hits it.

Bradford – FX – l turn double attempt, teetering on support foot – whip whip double tuck, bounce back OOB – back 1.5 to front full, some knees – wolf turn – switch to switch 1/2, under split – double pike, bounce

After 3
1. Esponda – 39.900
2. Pierson – 39.400
3. Damelio – 38.950
4. Buddendeck – 38.900
5. Westerman – 38.550

39.000 is the AA qualification pace, so now only Esponda and Pierson are on track. Damelio and Buddendeck just below.

Also we’re through three rotations in a hour. Loving this pace. Well done.

Rotation 4

Moll – FX – L turn double, good horizontal position and around – FTDT landed on hands and knees – back 1.5 to front lay – switch ring to switch side 1/2 – wolf double attempt, falls out of it and hands down – double tuck, bounce back OOB.

We didn’t see Damelio’s vault but it’s 13.100, which will be just enough to qualify on 52.050.

Esponda – UB – toe full, foot separation – to maloney to pak – short hs – van leeuwen, small leg break – toe 1/2 to jaeger – short cast 1/2 with back position – double tuck, bounce back. Through it.

Wittenberg – FX – DLO, chest down but got it to her feet – popa – back 1.5 to front tuck – scissor kick is all the rage since barbosu resubmitted it last quad – switch – wolf double – switch 1/2, under – double tuck bounce back OOB – pike full shushunova. Won’t have the scores but also big improvement from her compared to when we saw her at Winter Cup.

Pierson – UB – stalder full to maloney to pak, small ncaa leg breaks – van leeuwen – stalder 1/2 to jaeger, good height – short on 1/2 turn – doubel tuck dismount, hop forward.

TBH I was kind of like, “What has happened to WCC…” at American Classic, but they’ve pulled it together more here.

Esponda 12.450 and Pierson 13.200 UB, both will get the score. Eichman comes up just short

M Malea – FX – DLO, pikes down, bounce back OOB – FTDT, hit, chest forward – switch – switch 1/2 – front full to just a front tuck, very deep, lunge forward – double tuck, step forward – I feel like using Jordyn Wieber’s floor music while being committed to LSU might be an SEC party foul.

Buddendeck – UB – Ray, hit – inbar 1/2 with legs into yezhova, big straddle – van leeuwen, les – stalder 1/2, pause before second 1/2 turn with form – DLO is solid – gets through it?

She gets 13.100 for it and is exactly on 52.000.

Everyone is getting he same bars E score today for WILDLY different routines.

Westerman – UB – shaposh to a somewhat wild bhardwaj, hit but leg separation – toe full to maloney – clear hip 1/2 is past – tkatchev, good height – short hs – toe 1/2 to front giant 1/2 to double pike, step back.

FINAL
1. Pierson – 52.600 – Qualified
2. Esponda – 52.350 – Qualified
3. Damelio – 52.050 – Qualified
4. Buddendeck – 52.000 – Qualified
5. Eichman – 51.900 – Standby

Pierson, Esponda, Damelio, and Buddendeck advance to nationals automatically. If they end up with fewer than 24 senior entrants to nationals, they’re going to fill out the field with people who scored 51.500-51.950 at Winter Cup, Am Classic, or here. So, they might also call in Eichman depending on who enters and petitions. We know that Skye Blakely has had her petition approved.
