World Championships Men’s Qualification Live Blog

Today, it’s the men’s turn. My position is right next to high bar and PBars, so I’ll have the best view of those and the worst and least helpful view of pommel horse of rings. Oh…that’s too bad…look how that worked out.

We start with subdivision 1 and the US men’s group, along with Switzerland and Canada and Austria.

Danusia and The Guy just described the crowd as “quality over quantity” so that’s where we are with men’s qualification on a Monday morning.

Subdivision 1 – Rotation 1

Andrin Frey starts on high bar for Switzerland and immediately falls on a Kolman.

Colt Walker opens with a hit for the US on rings with a stick on a double double tuck dismount. 13.566

Frey falls for a second time on his dismount. 10.866

Dolci vaults an excellent Kas 1.5 with a stuck landing.

Kratter also misses on high bar for Switzerland in the second spot with a fall on a Kovacs.

Malone adds a second hit for the US on rings, hop back on double double tucked.

Emard with a very high Kas 1.5 on vault, hop back.

So, for Kratter’s routine resumption the live scoreboard by the event said OVER where the timing should be.

13.700 for Malone on rings. Hong follows with a hop back on dismount as well.

Kratter’s score comes up as 12.133 with no issue so maybe just a glitch.

Seifert sits down his triple back HB dismount to deliver Switzerland’s third miss in a row on high bar.

Whittenburg with a smallish hop back on his double double layout rings dismount to round out the rotation for the US.

My wallet hero Alexander Benda finishes floor with a step forward on a 2.5 and is very pleased.

Seifert goes 13.033 on high bar with the fall.

14.333 for Whittenburg.

Serhani delivers Switzerland’s first high bar hit with a small step on DLO 1/1 dismount.

Subdivision 1 – Rotation 2

Malone starts for the US with a solid Kas 1.5, hop to the side.

Walker follows with a hit on his handspring randi, not too large on the hop, chest forward. 14.600

Kaji opens PBars for Canada with a hit, a few short handstand positions, double front 1/2 out with a bounce back and another step.

Hong – VT 1 – well he landed the Ri Se Gwang to his feet, which is an improvement over a lot of training. Chest well down, knee low, lunge forward and to the shit, but hit. 14.433

Hong – VT 2 – the Yonekura is less successful, sits it down

Frey just saves a double front on floor with a lunge back

Whittenburg has an Andrade-2nd-vault moment on his first vault and just slides off the table and doesn’t do anything.

While that was happening, I saw Koudinov hit a Kolman and piked Tkatchev on high bar, but you know…news.

It’s a 0 for Whittenburg.

Zakutney goes 14.400 on PBars for Canada, which is the top score there thus far.

The US is on 85.299 after two events, Canada on 84.965, Switzerland on 77.798, Austria on 75.432.

Subdivision 1 – Rotation 3

Hong starts for the US on Pbars – bhavsar is nice – tippelt, hit – makut – diam, good vertical position – stutz – double front 1/2 out is stuck, good one. 14.600

Clay falls on high bar for Canada after a 12.833 opening hit for Kaji. 10.733

Good stick on double front dismount on Pbars for Malone. Had a hesitation up on his front toss.

Zakutney up 3rd for Canada on high bar yamawaki with some pike – layout tkatchev to tkatchev to piked tkatchev, hit – quast, a ltitle crooked – tak 1/1, not bad on finish position – tak 1/2 – DLO 1/1, little hop. Good. 13.633

Whittenburg a somewhat deep landing on his double front 1/2 dismount, hop forward. He had a hesitation getting up to handstand earlier in the routine with a drop in the elbows. 13.666

Walker finishes for the US on Pbars with the one they wanted, nice long swing diam and great height on tippelt – -holds the stick on double front dismount with a lean.

Subdivision 1 – Rotation 4

Asher Hong is through high bar with a pretty solid hit. It’s the little victories. And he breaks 13 with a 13.200

Kaji short on double double tuck on floor with a pretty large lunge forward to control.

Solid tak 1/1 position for Whittenburg on high bar but then his Liukin attempt goes fully crazy, very close, lots of form, can’t hold onto the bar and hops off –

Emard’s twisting position is yes. Just so pleasant.

Walker – HB – tak 1/1, quite late – tak 1/2 – Kolman, catches – Kovacs is hit – layout tkatchev – tkatchev – yamawaki with some pike – DLO 1/1, verrry deep with a large lunge forward.

Malone HB – Cassina, just a little close – Kolman hit – layout tkatchev to tkatchev to piked tkatchev is nice – tak 1/1 is good today – tak 1/2 , solid – double double layout with hop forward. A little loss of rhythm coming out of the Kovacs elements and the dismount hop, but otherwise hit.

Dolci sits his double front pike on floor.

Malone goes 14.433 on high bar, which leads for now.

Team:
USA – 169.564
Canada – 164.830
Austria – 154.796
Switzerland – 154.430

Subdivision 1 – Rotation 5

Hong – FX – front full to double front pike,s tuck – double double layout, solid, a bit short – front tuckl full to double front, step forward OOB although I didn’t see anyone raise a flag – back 2.5 to front lay, little hop – 3/1, little rebound. 13.866

Walker – FX – front full to double front pike and sits it down – back 2.5 to double front and sits that one down as well – front lay to front full, and it’s a third fall – 2/1, little hop – 3/1, small bounce back.

So this is an oooooooofffffff of a day for the US. Reminiscent of qualification at 2019 worlds but maybe even worse…….

10.433

Malone – FX – front full to double front pike, lunge OOB – 2.5 to double front, sits it down – double double tuck, small hop back – front 2/1 to front layout, hop – 2/1, little hop – 3/1, hop back.

12.766 for Malone.

Whittenburg – FX – so now he has to hit after all that – front 2/1 to doubel front, hit, hop forward – double double layout, a bit short, hop forward – front full to double front pike, saves it with hop back – 2.5 to front lay, stuck – double double tuck, hop back – FTDT, slide back. He came through on floor.

Whittenburg goes 14.133 to lead the floor standings for now.

Team:
USA – 210.329
Canada – 203.363
Switzerland – 196.196
Austria – 192.028

Subdivision 1 – Rotation 6

Asher Hong is through a hit pommel horse routine to start. After that iffy first vault, he has been the star of the US team today. 13.300

Malone follows with a hit of his own. It would be just perfect if the US has this disaster of a day and then hits 4-4 on pommel horse.

Whittenburg also stays on pommel horse, being a pommel horse specialist and all.

And Nedoroscik was like, “FINE I’LL DO IT.” and hit to the best of his abilities.

So I guess the US men went as a pommel horse nation for Halloween.

15.233 for Nedoroscik gives him the expected huge lead on that event. The US is done on 252.295.

Meanwhile on PB, Noe Seifert misses his hand on a bhavsar attempt and falls face first onto the mat.

Team:
USA – 252.295
Canada – 242.962
Switzerland – 236.495
Austria – 230.427

Big deal for the Canadians to be ahead of Switzerland, which does not usually happen.

The US men should be fine for the team final, but boy was that a rough adventure. Chances they manufacture an injury to sub Moldauer in for team final….?

AA
Hong – 83.299
Malone – 82.631
Dolci – 78.330
Seifert – 77.965
Benda – 75.865

And that was just the first subdivision of six. Brace yourselves.

Subdivision 2 – Rotation 1

We’ll see if China and Great Britain can reverse the terror that was the first subdivision.

Yang JX starts for China on high bar with a hit including a solid Cassina and double double layout dismount with a hop.

Azizov has gone 14.300 on horse to move into 2nd place there.

Hall starts PBars for Great Britain with a fall – goes to one rail and then hits his foot on the bar trying to cast back up to handstand and comes off – finishes double front with lunge forward.

Sun Wei finishes high bar with a beautiful stuck double double layout.

12.766 for Hall.

Regini Moran hits pbars, some foot form on his straddle 1 1/4 but overall confident and clean – very nice stutz to one – double front 1/2 out with step.

14.833 for Sun Wei puts him in first on high bar.

Zhang – HB – tak 1/1, a bit late – tak 1/2, clean – layout tkatchev – Cassina, nice swing out of it – Kolman, hit – double double layout, chest forward, hop.

Regini Moran goes 14.966 on PBars to take over the lead there.

Karimi – FX – punch randi, clean, little hop – front full to double front pike, very nice landing – 2.5 to double front, stuck – double double, bounce back – back 1.5 to front 2/1, good control right into the corner, only small movement – holds the stick on 3/1, really well done.

Zhang went 14.733 on high bar to sit in 2nd place there.

Fraser 15.066 on PBars to take the lead there.

Jarman hits a secure PBars so that they’ll be able to drop Hall’s fall.

China goes 43.232 on high bar, which is 2.4 higher than the US on that event.

Great Britain goes 44.198 on PBars, which is .75 higher than the US on that event.

Subdivision 2 – Rotation 2

Regini-Moran goes over the wrong way on a tak 1/1 early and can never really recover, has to hop off the bars a second later. Another go over the wrong way on a tak 1/2 when he resumes.

Just 7.133 with 3 points of neutral deductions, not enough elements I’m assuming.

Hall – HB – hits his Cassina – solid Kolman – tkatchev – and he’s off on a piked tkatchev. And then a second fall on his dismount with knee down, so GB will have to count a two-fall high bar routine.

And now Sun Wei just took a punch randi to his face after a miss from Yang JX for just 13.300.

Men’s gymnastics, you ok honey?

Zhang with a good front full to double front pike on floor – back 2.5 to double fornt, just a little short iwth a hop – punch randi, slide – 2/1, arm wave and small step – front 2/1 to 1/2, stuck – 3/1, shortish, hop forward.

12.200 for Sun Wei, 11.633 for Hall.

Zhang and Fraser save their respective teams from hell. 14.266 for Fraser.

Jarman will finish high bar for great Britain – tak 1/2 is short – layout tkatchev, hit – tkatchev – tak – front stalder – stalder – DLO 1/1, step forward. Put up a “I guess we need this” hit for them.

China only put up 3 on floor, so that means they’re counting Sun Wei’s 12.200.

Jarman through with a low-difficulty but hit 13.100 that is GB’s necessary 2nd-best HB score.

China goes 40.000 on floor, which is 7 tenths lower than the US’s not-awesome floor rotation. GB goes 38.999 on high bar.

After 2:
China 83.232
Great Britain 83.197
Korea 82.732
Kazakhstan 81.664

Subdivision 2 – Rotation 3

Hall – FX – double double tucked, bounce back – FTDT, chest forward, hop – just little slides and steps and hops on every landing, but nothing large – 3/1, nearly stuck.

You started horse with 13.633 for China. Hall hits 14.166 on floor.

Fraser – FX – front lay to double front pike, step forward OOB – double double tuck, hop back – 2.5 to front 1/2 – 2/1, solid – double arabian, bounce forward – FTDT, good stick. GB is back?

Sun Wei is off on horse.

13.900 for Fraser on floor.

Regini Moran opned with a strong triple double, ten double double, hop forward – 2.5 to front lay to front rudi, pretty – 2/1, stuck – double front pike 1/2 out, bounce back – randi, hop forward – 3/1, another small hop.

GB already with a very good floor rotation before Jarman goes.

Yang is off pommel horse, so China will have to count a fall there as well.

14.533 puts GRM in 2nd on floor for now

Jarman – FX – triple double layout, so high – triple double tucked, only small movement – 1.5 to front lay to front 2/1 gets reallly deep, just barely saves it with a couple stumbles back – 3/1 side pass like you have – front full to rudi, short landing, lunge forward – 3.5, step forward. ahhhhh but how much will those landings cost.

Oooof, a 6.7 D but just a 13.900 total for him. Sadness.

Subdivision 2 – Rotation 4

James Hall starts GB on horse with 14.033, and Jarman follows him with a hit.

Live scores have a DID NOT START up for Sun Wei, following 14.666 for Zou. And now Zhang Boheng is going.

And Zhang is way short on his double double tucked rings dismount and has to do a forward roll out of it.

Joe Fraser has to try to squeeeeeze his way through a pommel horse dismount and doesn’t get it, he’s going to resume and try his dismount again, which he gets the second time. This all happened at the same time that Lee Junho was falling on high bar. It’s been a meet.

12.033 for Zhang Boheng will count, so they’ll rely on Zou and You to be amazing and bail them out a little.

12.533 for Fraser on horse, but they do get a stay-on from Regini-Moran.

You Hao 14.633 on rings to go into 2nd place just behind Zou.

Subdivision 2 – Rotation 5

Yang starts for China with a very deep Kas 2/1, low knee, lunge forward. 14.466

Sun – VT – also a Kas 2/1 – another very deep landing, looked like a hand down or hand brush on the mat

Hall got 13.466 on rings to start for GB.

13.400 for Sun.

Zhang – VT – he also falls on his Kas 2/1, another deep landing, hands down.

Fraser goes 13.933 on rings, and now they’ll be relying on Tulloch to put them into…first place at this point.

China will count both falls from Zhang and Sun on vault.

Tulloch goes 14.666 to move into first place on rings. Jarman finishes the rotation with a good stick on his dismount. Who would have thought when GB had a 7.133 and then two halls from James Hall on high bar that this would be the best performance of the day.

So this meet has been hilarious. The US looks like they will flop their way ahead of China, which has been putting up 3 and counting falls all over the place. With GB going to vault, they have a very good opportunity to be in first heading to the Japan subdivision.

Subdivision 2 – Rotation 6

Fraser hits his double front to start on vault, lunge back, some cowboy and foot form. 14.266

Regini Moran VT 1 – very solid Kas 2/1, especially by today’s standard, step back. 14.633.

Regini Moran VT 2 – sits down his double front.

Zou’s PB is a day-saver for China – beautiful front straddle to swing and bhavsar – small hesitation up to handstand on tippelt – healy – doubel front 1/2 out, holds onto stick with a lean.

Jarman VT 1 – Dragulescu is very strong – medium lunge to the side.

Zou with a casual 15.700 on PBars.

Jarman’s second vault is a Kas 2.5 and he sits that one down.

Zhang hit PB but a very deep landing on double front 1/2 out with a bound forward.

Jarman’s first vault puts GB ahead of the US by a smidge with Tulloch still to come.

Karim – HB – Cassina is good – kovacs to kolman, hit – tak 1/2, carch, pulls it around – layout tkatchev – double double layout dismount, some knee form, holds onto the landing with an arm swing.

Tulloch hits his Dragulescu first vault as well,

You is off PB immediately, and this score is going to have to count because Sun scratched.

Tulloch’s Ri Se Gwang second vault is landed in a ball shape of some kind, very deep, looks like some hands and maybe knees touched.

GB will have the team lead after sub 2, USA will be in 2nd, China will be in 3rd.

You’s 12.700 counts.

Team after 2:
Great Britain – 252.793
USA – 252.295
China – 249.929
Korea – 244.093
Canada – 242.962

AA after 2:
Fraser – 83.964
Zhang – 83.766
Hong – 83.299
Malone – 82.631
Jarman – 82.365

Subdivision 3 – Rotation 1

I imagine Japan looked at those first two subdivisions like, “Was that a try?”

Abad – FX – front full to double front, hop back – front lay to double front pike, hop forward – 3/1, stagger back – front 2/1, crossover step. 13.400

Tanigawa Wataru starts Japan with a hit on pommel horse so they’re already having the best day of any team. 13.733

G Burtanete hits his HB dismount, DLO 1/1 with a hop forward.

Kolodii with a troublesome PB dismount, doubel pike with multiple lunges forward and off the mat.

Plata – FX – double double layout, bounce back OOB – punch randi, bounce back – double double tuck, holds onto the stick – 2/1, hop back – front 2/1 to front 1/1, step forward – 2.5 to front lay, solid stick – FTDT final pass, step back. Nice one. 13.500

Apparently the part of Hashimoto’s routine I saw hit was after step-down disasters for a 11.666. Neeeeever mind.

Mir – FX – front full to double front pike, step forward OOB – back 1.5 to front 2/1, food stick – double double tuck, bounce back – 3/1, stuck – 1.5 to front layout, a little short, slide back – doubel arabian 1/2 out, puts hands down and he’s taking a while to get back up. Now he’s up in an ouchie landing way.

Suprun falls on his PB dismount for Ukraine, following a 14.966 for Kovtun, which puts him in 4th place.

Zapata – FX – hits first pass, hop forward – 1.5 to front double pike, stuck – double double layout, little hop forward – double arabian 1/2 out, holds onto stuck with lean – punch rudi, solid – 2.5 to front lay to dance-out basically – DLO, short landing, lunge forward. Will still score very well.

Doi goes 14.466 on horse to keep Japan’s score high there.

Japan 42.465 on horse, which is the top score there today.

Subdivision 3 – Rotation 2

R Burtanete has to connect a pass to forward roll on floor to start us out here, which is not ideal.

Kakeru with a large lunge back on his rings dismount. 13.233

Abad 12.766 on horse to start. Mir falls twice so far in the next routine.

Melnykov comes off the high bar (we were wondering if he was having a grip problem but doesn’t seem so) and then falls on dismount.

Wataru sticks double double tuck rings dismount after some handstand muscling right before. 14.000

Kovtun HB – layout tkatchev to tkatchev to piked tkatchev is well done – tak 1/1, just does pull it over the right way – tak 1/2, late – stalder – quast – double double layout hop

Good stick on doubel double rings dismount for Hashimoto.

Diallo through horse successfully for Spain for 13.500.

Marc – FX – Romania – good stick on double fouble – double front, bounce forward – front 2/1 to layout, arched, hop forward – 2/1, step back – 2.5 to front full, nice stick – 3/1, step back. 13.500

Muntean – FX – Romania – double front pike, hop forward – double front, short, sits it down –

Japan goes 42.500 on rings, also the top score of the day there. Almost like a theme.

Subdivision 3 – Rotation 3

Melnykov with hand down on opening double front on floor, and again on his second pas –

Japan opens vault with a good Kas 1.5 from Doi.

Plata sticks double double rings dismount

Tanigawa W VT 1 – handspring double front pike landed in a deep squat but not a fall with a step forward, so it’s basically the best vault we’ve ever seen and will get a 9.8 E score. 14.400 for him.

Tanigawa’s second vault – Kas 2/1, also very deep, maybe avoids a knee down but if so, not by much.

Marc can’t get up to handstand on dismount on PH and hops off.

Kovtun – FX – front full to double front, hop forward – front double pike, step forward OOB – looks like a 3.5 attempt (?), under, foot slips out and falls – 2.5 to front lay, slide back – 3/1 dismount

Hashimoto hit a good handspring 2.5, step – 14.700

Kakeru finishes vault for Japan, pulls out the landing on a kas 1.5, a bit short but still nearly held onto the stick before a bounce back

Kovtun just 12.700 on floor. Zapata goes 13.600 on rings.

Japan’s 43.666 on vault does not lead that event. It is third behind Great Britain and Korea.

Subdivision 3 – Rotation 4

Mir leads off vault with a hit Kas 1.5, crossover step backward. 14.066. Abad with a step anck and OOb on his Kas full. 13.500

Wataru starts PBars for Japan – good bhavsar and tippelt – holds the stick on double front 1/2 out. 14.866 as a starting score.

Plata hits a Dragulescu for Spain – chest forward, hop to the side. 14.600

Hashimoto – PB – healy, clean – peach 1/2 – front straddle 1 1/4 – bhavsar, clean – good tippelt – double front 1/2 out, bounce back.

Zapata sits his double front pike on vault. 13.433

14.733 for Hashimoto.

Kamoto – PB – diam, solid – stutz, some loose back position – peach – front straddle, solid – bhavsar, hit – tippelt, smooth – healy, slight hesitation up to handstand – double pike, stuck. 15.433 is kind of a good score.

Kakeru puts up what I’d say was the cleanest of the bunch in the anchor spot on PBars. Did have a low landing on double front 1/2 out dismount with a slide back. 14.933 is 6th place.

After 4
Japan 173.863
Spain 161.631
Romania 152.728
Ukraine 151.362

Subdivision 3 – Rotation 5

Doi – HB – Japan – Cassina was good but couldn’t get over on his next giant, extra swing – stalder – tak full – some vertical handstand issues in this one – just does catch Kolman – double double layout, chest down landing, hop to the side. 13.800

W Tanigawa – HB – Cassina, hit, some knee form – layout tkatchev to tkatchev, a bit of elbows – DLO 1/1, small amount of piking, hop back. 13.566

Diallo starts PB for Spain with 14.366.

hashimoto – HB – Japan – tak 1/2 to liukin, hit, some piking and form  – Cassina, hit – Kolman, also good – layout tkatchev to tkatchev – tak 1/1, very late – stalder – quast – doubel double layout, hop back. Good.

14.666 on PB for Plata as Spain is putting up some good numbers.

Hashimoto 15.100 to go into first on HB.

Kamoto will finish HB for Japan, tak 1/2 pretty good – layout tkatchev – Cassina, hit – Kolman, hit, good swing out of them – tkatchev – layout double double, a bit short, hop forward. 14.400, nice number.

14.766 for Mir brings Spain to 43.798 on PBars, which is better than both China and the US.

Subdivision 3 – Rotation 6

Kakeru starts floor with 14.300 for Japan.

Wataru next – front 2/1 to layout, some arch, hop forward – double double tucks, chest foward, slide – doubel front pike, very nice stick – 2/1, stuck – 2.5 to front tuck full, short, large slide back – double arabian 1/2 out, stuck

Radivilov VT 1 – strong dragulescu, smaller hop forward

Abad – HB – layout tkatchev and tkatchev are hit – rybalko – DLO 1/1, step back.

Radivilov VT 2 – tsuk double pike is landed, chest forward, fairly large lunge ahead.

Doi sticks his 3/1 final pass on floor.

Plata – HB – zou li min – tak 1/2 to kolman, well done – Cassina, some crazy legs but caught – layout tkatchev – tkatchev – quasdt – tak 1/1, late – DLO 1/1, stuck landing.

Spain will move into 5th, ahead of South Korea.

14.766 for Doi is now in first place.

Hashimoto – FX – triple double tuck, short, lunge – double double tuck, solid – front full to randi, holds onto landing – 2/1, stuck – 2.5 to layout, nearly slips, little slide of the foot – 3/1, bounce back.

14.466 for Hashimoto, so he will not pass Wataru in the AA, which you wouldn’t have called.

Team after 3
Japan – 260.695
Great Britain – 252.793
USA – 252.295
China – 249.929
Spain – 245.594
Korea – 244.093
Canada – 242.962
Kazakhstan – 236.993

AA after 3
Tanigawa W – 84.731
Hashimoto – 84.665
Fraser – 83.964
Zhang – 83.766
Hong – 83.299
Plata – 82.799
Malone – 82.631
Jarman – 82.365

Subdivision 4

In the fourth subdivision, we have Italy and Brazil going, who will be aiming to pass Spain’s 245.594 as the teams jockey for spots in the team final.

Marious Georgiou starts the high bar specialists out successfully, hop forward on dismount.

Vahagn Davtyan went 14.566 on rings, which is 4th behind Tulloch, Zou, and You.

Marious went 14.100 on high bar, which is 7th place.

Ilias Georgiou also with a hit, a little hop forward on his layout double double dismount.

Bartolini falls on pommel horse.

Ilias goes 14.466 to move ahead of Malone and into 4th place.

Srbic – kolman, hit – quast – talder rybalko fairly late and some leg separation – good tak 1/1 – very awkward stalder, like his hand went and he gained a lot of form – tak 1/2 late – tkatchev – layout tkatchev – DLO 1/1, step forward

Bitencourt had barely started Pbars and he’s off, didn’t even see what happened. Hands down on his dismount as well.

Avetisyan 14.466 on rings for 6th place.

Srbic 13.200 on high bar. Alas.

Abbadini goes 13.966 on horse to give Italy 40.365 there. At Euros, Italy went 40.299 on horse when they scores a 247.494 total.

Souza misses a hand on a peach half, keeps it on the bars but a major form break – doubel front to arms – long pause before healy – front straddle to arms – tippelt, hit – doubel front 1/2 out, hop forward.

Brazil went just 39.666 on PBars, which is one of the weakest PBars scores of the day across the teams.

Subdivision 4 – Rotation 2

Artur Davtyan’s Draglescu is pretty much as perfect as it was in podium training, just a little more chest forward this time. But the best vault we’ve seen today, easily. His randi second vault is pretty much as excellent, one small step.

14.900 for both, moves into first place there.

Benovic on floor shows very good control on all his landings, until a step OOB on his final 3/1. 14.266 is 8th place.

Nory – HB – tak 1/2, nice to layout tkatchev to tkjatchev to piked tkatchev – layout jaeger 1/2, very nice – tak 1/1 very crooked and late – stalder – DLO 1/1, a little forward, step. 14.366 and it’s 7th place.

Souza catches very close on his Kolman but does get it.

Medvedev first vault is Tsuk double pike, short with hand down.

Souza’s 14.333 is 8th on high bar.

We’re now moving into the live blog break portion of the meet, which is an official thing that I’ve just decided. I’ll still be here in the arena so may still make comments if there’s something urgent I need to state.

World Championships Qualification Live Blog – Day 2

Back at it for day 2—and today’s 8 subdivisions of competition. So basically if I die at any point during the meet today, it will be your fault.

In subdivision 3, we start with South Korea and Ukraine. Shin Solyi is only on bars today, which is a surprise because she finished so well in the AA in 2021 and at Korean competitions this year, so that must be a necessity rather than a strategy decision.

Subdivision 3 – Rotation 1

Koslovska – FX – double pike, a coupel steps back – switch 1/2 – switch to split leap full – front tuck through to layout full – double L turn, may have just pulled that around – double tuck, chest down, controls landing

Eom lands somewhat short on a yfull leading off vault for KOR, hop to the side.

Nice split ring from Hribar on beam –

Santi – UB – giant full to a straddle deltchev, which was nice but she couldn’t get up to handstand after that and stops against the bar.

Lee Ys – VT – pretty Yfull, good amplitude, smaller hop. Nice.

Kasianenko – FX – double Arabian, lunge forward – FTDT, chest down, jarred back on landing – falls out of memmel turn attempt – double pike, pulls it around – switch 1/2 – double tuck, bounce back.

Yeo – VT 1 – by FAR the best rudi I’ve seen her do across training and warmup, chest up fairly well, bounce back. 14.366

Trtnik with 11.700 on beam. Kasianenko 12.333 on floor.

Yeo – VT 2 – great amplitude on DTY, lunge back. She was definitely saving those vaults for when it mattered.

Osipova – FX – bounce back 3/1 – double y not quite all the way around – double tuck, step back

Reece Cobb of NZL just through a good bars set. Really good amplitude on her shoot to high bar and nice line on handstands. 11.833

Yeo’s DTY goes 14.133, so she’s in just behind Carey and Chiles on vault.

Lee Dayeong finishes vault for South Korea. Better amplitude on her yfull than the first couple, though also more form in the air.

Rolston-Larking – UB – hits jaeger, some knees – pak, leg bend – stalder full, just does get it around, may be too late – has to do some correction recasts on low bar – finishes with flyaway dismount.

Furac – BB – aerial, smooth – switch, pause before side aerial, arm wave correction – side somi, large break but saves it with a bend forward at the hips – switch 1/2, attacked it, but another large wobble – wolf jump, little pause before sissone – kickover front is secure – back walkover before running for her punch front full dismount. Way over time. 1:44.

So Kasianenko’s 12.333 will rank as Ukraine’s top floor score.  South Korea’s vault score comes in about 3 tenths behind Belgium’s.

Subdivision 3 – Rotation 2

Seeing Shin Solyi in this bars warmup with a wrapped ankle and walking very gingerly on it.

Kozlovksa – VT – Ukraine – Just a Yurchenko layout, bounce back

Shin – UB – Korea – maloney, good leg position in pak, very clean – van leeuwen, solid – stalder, slight hesitation – jaeger, nice – toe full, just a bit late into double tuck, small hop. Good one. She has SUCH nice legs-together position on her transition elements.

Kasianenko hits a Yfull, chest a bit forward, medium step to the side back toward center

Eom – UB – maloney to pak to stalder to van leeuwen, solid, just a little leg break in pak – stalder 1/2 to piked jaeger, hit – toe full, late to FTDT, chest down, hop forward. But another pretty solid hit.

Good Yfull from Osipova, slide back.

Cobb – BB -NZL – switch mount – bhs loso series, way short and falls

13.066 for Eom on bars, really solid number following Sin’s 12.8. Lower E but much higher D.

Lee YS – UB – Korea – inbar full, late, pulls it around – inbar shap to pak to van leeuwen, is good today – inbar 1/2 to piked jaeger  – 1/2 turn a little late – stalder full to FTDT, deep, larger bounce back. Things to take but again much better than we saw in PT, especially on the shap/pak/vl combination. That was lovely.

Furac with a stumble OOB on floor on her opening double tuck.

Lee Yunseo with a 13.200 on bars to put her 6th. That 7.100 E score is tight for me compared to some of the mid and higher 7s we’ve seen thrown out for leg disasters so far. There were plenty of deductions in Lee’s routine today, but let’s also reward form when we see it.

Lee DY – UB – Maloney to pak, a but close but works out of it – van leeuwen, clean – stalder to stalder 1/2, clips the low bar swinging through to jaeger, toe full to double tuck, deep, bounce back

Hribar – FX – front 2/1, somewhat short, crossover step back – double pike, good height, small bounce – good leap amplitude – split leap full, hop – 2/1, small step – ring positions show good extension.

South Korea goes 39.066 on bars, so they’re about 1.4 behind Belgium’s pace on vault and bars.

Santi of Chile finishes out the rotation. She has two falls early in her beam routine, saves her bhs back pike series with an arm wave – switch side produces the third fall of the routine – side aerial, holds onto it – 2/1 dismount, step forward.

Subdivision 3 – Rotation 3

Lee YS – BB – KOR – hit wolf double – aerial, pause before split to straddle – side somi, holds it – switch to sissone, pretty positions – bhs loso series, no trouble – back 2.5 dismount, lunge forward. Good one overall.

Cobb – FX – NZL – double tuck, stumble back OOB – 2/1, bounce back – switch, split leap full – front layout

Kasianenko with a fall on bars.

12.733 for Lee on beam, which is 5th so far.

11.000 for Kasianenko

Rolston-Larking – FX – NZL – double turn – double pike, bounce back, a couple steps, stays in – front full –

Yeo – BB – really nice front tuck mount – bhs loso series, lean check – pucnh front, small step – wolf double, fine, slightly wobbly – side aerial, another small lean correction – double pike, lunge back but keeps it to her feet. 12.466

Hubareva with a solid 12.766 for Ukraine on bars.

Osipova – UB – can’t get over on her opening toe full attempt and has to hop off the bar

Eom – BB – Korea – bhs mount and falls – fhs front tuck combination, saved with a wobble – aerial, hit –  but does have a second fall when her wolf turn goes to pieces – finishes double pike with an excellent landing of course.

Santi with a solid open FTDT on floor, good twisting form on 2.5, connected to front tuck

Osipova 10.600, so Kasianenko’s 11.000 will count. Kozlovska still to come.

Kozlovska – UB – maloney, legs to pak, may have briushed her feet on the mat – van leeuwen, hit with legs – jaeger, good distance from bar but cant cast up out of it, stays on the bar and recasts – giant full – finishes with flyaway.

Lee DY – BB – wolf 1.5ish and tries to pretend that’s what she meant – bhs loso, secure, good position – switch to sissone, some back leg position – aerial, huge bend at the hips all the way over but critically stays on – side aerial, hit – side somi, another huge lean forward, and then a lean back, but once again keeps it on the beam – 2/1, bounce back. Lots to deduct for there, but they desperately needed her to stay on after Eom’s 2-fall routine for 10.500.

Kozlovksa went 10.866 on bars, which will also count.

Subdivision 3 – Rotation 4

Eom – FX – Korea – double tuck, bounce back – 2/1, bounce back, good form – switch ring to split leap full – back 1.5 to front full, some knees, hop forward – tries to pull around wolf double – double pike, larger bounce back.

Kozlovksa off beam on her loso series

Rolston-Larking vaults a Tsuk back pike with a lunge back.

Yeo was short on her DLO landing on floor with a lunge forward but otherwise very secure landings and a strong routine overall.

Osipova off on her mount on beam.

Hribar with a strong 13.033 on bars. Santi had taken a rough fall onto her back on vault in the warmup but hit a DTY for 13.666 in the comp. Second vault is a Tsuk layout 1.5, sits it down.

Osipova went 11.566 on beam.

Kasianenko – BB – Ukraine – front tuck mount pitches her forward to split the beam frontways and hold on for dear life, she ends up having to hop off – keeps her side aerial loso on the beam with a leg up check – sissone to lovely split jump – double tuck dismount, shuffle back. 11.833

Lee YS – FX – good high double tuck, bounce back – 3/1, a little short, step to the side – nice switch ring – switch 1/2 – back 1.5 to front full, little shuffle – wolf 2.25 – double pike, chest down, slide back. 13.100 and 8th on floor.

Savelieva – BB – Ukraine – bhs loso, short landing, great hold to minimize the check – switch, short back leg – side aerial, sevure – aerial, large bend at the hips all the way over, stays on – side somi, hesitation correction – back 1.5 dismounb, lunge forward

Lee DY – FX – somewhat falls out of memmel turn but in a way that makes it almost a 2.5 – 2/1, step back – double pike, very deep – switch ring, split leap full, short of split – back 1.5 to front full and falls – 2/1, a couple steps back. 10.033

So South Korea will not be able to catch Belgium. They were really missing Shin Solyi on most of the events today.

After 3:
United States – 167.263
Belgium – 156.063
South Korea – 153.363
Spain – 149.162
Ukraine – 142.729

Lee Yunseo moves into 7th in the AA with 51.833, Yeo is in 3rd on vault, Lee YS and Eom are 6-7 on bars, Lee YS is 5th on beam and 8th on floor.

Subdivision 4 – Rotation 1

We’re up for the Australia, Hungary, Sweden subdivision. The big development for Australia is the illness withdrawal of Emily Whitehead. We’ll see how that affects a team that looked pretty prepared in PT. But now Georgia-Rose Brown is among the five and doing bars, and she didn’t do a whole lot in training that we saw.

Hungary will indeed not have Kovacs on floor or bars, and is going with just three on floor.

Szilagyi – FX – (so Makovits ended up the alternate rather than Szilagyi) – FTDT, chest forward, secure landing – 2.5 to front full, some leg crossing – switch ring and split ring, low front leg on the switch – front full, sances out of it a bit – double pike, hop to the side – split leap full to finish. Good job. 12.266

R Brown – UB – Australia – toe full, good finish to maloney to pak, clean work – van leeuwen, solid leg position – a bit short on cast – blind to markelov, hit – FTDT, chest forward, step, but a strong start for Australia.

Bacskay – FX – Hungary – good height on double pike, small hop back – 2.5 to front tuck, somewaht short, slide back – switch side to popa is a little short but she’s already doing the NCAA combo – 2/1, hop forward.

Nice high Tkatchev to pak combo for McDonald on bars – van leeuwen, clean – finishes FTDT, small hop forward, Good one.

14.066 for McDonald on bars is huge and puts her 3rd there, ahead of Chiles on E score.

Solid Yfull for Paulsson on vault for Sweden, good layout shape, bounce back

Godwin – UB – weiler, small pause before weiler 1/2 but fine – maloney to pak is clean – short cast hs – van leeuwen, legs together – piked jaeger is good – small hestiation in cast 1/2 – giant full – DLO, holds the stick. Great.

Going to be three big counting scores for Australia on bars already, but they will still have GR Brown go.

13.333 for Godwin brings Australia to 40.932, which will way ahead of Belgium’s bars.

GR Brown – UB – toe full, good form to stalder shapo to pak, loses her legs a little – maloney to geinger hit – toe 1/2 to jaeger, pretty – doubel front, hop forward. I’m impressed. She did like nothing in PT and fell in the warmup here and then pulled out a fairly brilliant bars routine in competition.

13.400 for her will count for the team score and bring it up to 41.032 on bars.

Mayer finishes floor for Hungary with a solid double tuck. Hungary will be counting an 11.533 from Bacskay since they’re putting up only 3 on floor. 12.833 for Mayer.

Subdivision 4 – Rotation 2

R Brown – BB – Australia – wolf double, higher position but hit – bhs loso, secure landing, good height – switch to split jump to bhs, clean – aerial, arm wave correction – side aerial, just some feet, solid – 2/1 dismount, lunge back. Good. 1 down, 2 hits to go.

Looks like Dildora Aripova has scratched.

Emelie Westlund starts Sweden with 13.000 on bars.

Eriksson – UB – Sweden – maloney to pak, some legs – van leeuwen, leg break – jaeger, a little low but hit – giant full – double tuck, step salute.

12.266 for R Brown.

McDonald – BB – Australia – switch mount good – side aerial a pretty large break, bend at the hips, keeps it on – bhs loso and falls – resumes with aerial to straddle jump to korbut, solid combination – wolf double was wobbly from the start and a second fall – finishes 2.5 dismount, deep, lunge forward. They’ll need to drop this because otherwise TF is realistic given that bars performance.

N Westlund – UB – Sweden – maloney to pak, gorgeous – van leeuwen and can’t grab the bar and falls, a shame because she has such high scoring potential here. Resumes and hits her vl – Lovely high jaeger – giant full – DLO, bounce back.

12.466 for Westlund even with the fall. Basically the same E score as Lee YS.

Paulsson – UB – Sweden – toe full – maloney to pak, legs van leeuwen, hit – blind to piked jaeger, great height – double tuck, step forward.

Kovacs vault is just a yfull, so high and easy for her. And it looks like she’ll scratch her second vault.

Finally have a score for McDonald, 10.733

Godwin – BB – aerial to straddle to sissone is strong – side somi, no trouble – bhs loso, small arm wave, some soft knees – switch to side aerial, slight foot movement – pulls around wolf triple, lean forward – double pike dismount, chest down, hop forward. A second hit for AUS.

39.600 for Hungary on vault, which is still solid, just a touch behind South Korea there.

13.000 for Godwin is 4th on beam.

Scott – BB – Australia – switch mount, good – bhs layout 2 feet series is huge but she can’t hold onto it, grabs the beam to try to save it, eventually comes off – side aerial, hit – aerial, good position – wolf single – pretty split and wolf positions – switch to split to bhs, quick combination – front tuck, hit, step forward – double pike, deep but hit, lunge back. Should still improve the team score from McDonald’s 2 fall routine, but Australia has opened the door with a counting beam fall.

11.966 for Scott moves Australia to 37.232 on beam, which is ahead of Belgium’s beam score.

Subdivision 4 – Rotation 3

R Brown – FX – Australia – wolf 2.75ish – double tuck, high bounce back – back 1.5 to layout, larger bounce forward – switch ring to switch 1/2 – double pike, chest forward, a couple steps.

Nice loso series from N Westlund on beam – clean aerial combination – side aerial, arm wave –

Szilagyi starts Hungary on bars with 11.633.

Bacskay hits her kindorff to pak combination on bars, so high on the hindorff. DLO, pikes it a lot but lands it under control.

12.733 for Brown on floor is a good start.

We have a fall for Paulsson on beam.

Godwin – FX – Australia – wolf triple is around – front lay to double front, saves the landing today with a deepish stumble, but better than PT where she was falling – DLO, high, a bit uncontrolled on the bounce back – double Y spin, I’d say that’s around – switch and split full, some back leg form – front full, step – double pike, bounce back. Not her best landings today but a hit.

Mayer – Ub – hungary – nice high Ray but can’t get her pak in combination, her feet hit the floor before her hands hit the bar and she’s off – finishes with a flyaway dismount. Without Kovacs and Makovits, the Hungarian bars lineup is hurting.

Eriksson off beam on her loso series. Second fall on side somi.

12.933 for Godwin, which is actually a pretty good floor score for her event though she can do a lot better. Floor scores high so far at this event.

Scott – FX – Australia – FTDT, good position, step back – front tuck through to double back, bounces OOB with both feet – double pike, deep, bounce back OOB again with one foot.

Szekely delivers a necessary strong routine for Hungary on bars – such high piked jaeger.

Emelie Westlund with another fall for Sweden on beam. Comes back with lovely bhs loso series.

13.766 on bars for Szekely, which is 5th.

Lineup change for Australia as GR Brown will come in on floor instead of McDonald. She’ll try to drop Scott’s 12.066 in the previous position.

Seems like the scoreboard is having trouble with the lineup change, so they’re holding Brown even though Scott’s score is long since in.

GR Brown – FX – Australia – double y attempt into illusion, not all the way doubel y, lovely split full – deep landing on back 2.5, but saves it with a step – double tuck, can’t pull it around and hands down – split ring and switch ring are nice – L turn probably no credit, leg below horizontal – 2/1, small hop –

I think she wouldn’t have imagined she’d be called upon to do a floor routine here, but circumstances dictate.

Australia will give back nearly the entirety of their lead on Belgium in that rotation, but will still have one heading to vault, where Belgium went 40.099.

Subdivision 4 – Rotation 4

McDonald is also not warming up vault, so it seems something must have happened in that beam routine. Because now GRB has to warm up vault. Whitehead and McDonald down is putting huge strain on this team.

The warmup is done and they still don’t have a score for GRB’s floor in the last rotation.

Bacskay – BB – Hungary – hits loso mount – bhs loso series, leg-up check, some knees – switch to straddle jump, short – side somi, holds onto it with an arm wave – side aerial, secure – 2/1 dismount, step to the side.

Wingren – FX – Sweden – double pike, clean, slide back – switch side – 1.5 to front tuck, hit, hop forward – switch side 1/2, pulls around, slight lack of control on landing – double tuck, lunge forward

GR Brown – VT – Australia – clean Yfull, medium hop back, good.

11.366 for Bacskay.

Kovacs – BB – Hungary – switch mount is good – connects to switch 1/2, low, to korbut – side aerial to bhs, hit – aerial to straddle check – split jump to wolf jump – side somi, solid – switch – double tuck, chest well down but secure landing. One of her best beams of the year.

And 13.533 puts her into 2nd on beam.

Romi brown good distance yfull, bounce back –

Godwin – VT – Australia – good landing on Tsuk 1.5, hop to the side

Karla Navas peels off the low bar on pak catch.

Australia currently 3 tenths behind Belgium, waiting on Scott’s vault, which will be another Yfull. Good in the air, some pike, bounce back. Can she make up 3 tenths on the other fulls?

Mayer – BB – Hungary – front pike mount, step forward – wolf double, around – bhs lay-pike, secure landing – switch leap, good position – side aerial, solid – switch ring, back leg question – side somi, solid – double tuck dismount, step back. 12.766

N Westlund – FX – Sweden – switch leap full to stag – double pike, bounce back – does have a Bambi fall on a front full in her last pass.

It was enough from Scott! Australia moves ahead of Belgium by exactly .032 and will sit in 2nd place as a team. Could be significant.

Szilagyi – BB- Hungary – split handstand to one arm mount, more hesitant today than in PT but does get there in the end – wolf turn 1.5, big lean, keeps it on – side aerial, small lean – switch to straddle – bhs bhs loso series, solid – aerail to split jump, hit – side somi, arm wave correction – double tuck, bounce back. 12.133

Paulsson finishes this subdivision with a 12.600 on floor.

After 4:
USA – 167.263
Australia – 156.095
Belgium – 156.063
Korea – 153.363
Hungary – 152.296

Godwin moves into 4th in the AA with her 52.866, the best non-US score. Kate McDonald is in 3rd on bars, Szekely is into 5th, Romi Brown is 6th. Kovacs is 2nd on beam, Godwin is 5th, Mayer in 7th. So lots of changes in the top 8 there.

Subdivision 5 – Rotation 1

Zhang – BB – candle, hit – switch ring, check – bhs bhs layout 2 ft, good, step back – aerial, pause before split ring jump, another pause – full turn – switch to sheep, lean at hips – stuck 2/1 dismount. No major errors there but lots of broken connections. 12.833

Spence – UB – toe full to maloney to pak, hit – can leeuwen, solid – blind to jaeger, good – dismounts double tuck, slide back.

Nathan – VT – hits a Yfull, medium lunge back, good direction.

12.800 for Spence on UB.

I know Ellie Black is doing routine visualization right now but it looks like she has fallen asleep in her chair.

Denomee – UB – Canada – front toe 1/2 to maloney – van leeuwen, hit – gienger is nice, she’s going to lose a lot on handstands but a solid routine – giant full – front tuck 1/2 dismount. 12.866

Tang – BB – loso mount is very clean – ro 2 foot layout is right on, pause before split jump – switch to split ring to bhs, broke connection – switch ring – switch 1/2 and falls, alas, looked tentative on that element, didn’t get up to her usual split position – aerial, was lovely and then got hesitant working out of it with a check – double pike, solid

Black – UB – maloney to hindorff, hit – Black to Yezhova very nice – van leeuwen, small leg break – giant full – toe on tuck 1/2. Excellent for her.

Long wait for the scores for both Tang and Black.

13.933 for Black, which is 5th on bars.

Turner – UB – Canada – inbar, good flat position – inbar 1/2 to piked jaeger, clean – toe full, late – pak, pretty – maloney to stalder 1/2, late – DLO, small bounce back.

12.466 for Tang.

Ou – BB – fhs front tuck, large break but stays on, leg up wobble – switch, pause before switch 1/2 into lovely korbut – switch ring, small step – split ring jump to bhs to split jump, hit – aerial to straddle jump, lean before bhs – hits side somi – 2.5 dismount, step. Ou Yushan is the one who hits beam now. Like Zhang, she had a number of small hesitations and broken connections even when she looked on, but a hit.

13.166 for Turner.

Canada 39.965 on bars, which is a little more than a point behind Australia’s bars score.

Still waiting on the score for Ou. Every other event is long done. China is like, “You will have to confer over every single one of our connections.”

13.900 for Ou is the top beam score.

Luo – BB – China – front walkover mount, lovely – ro 2 foot layout and falls – cancel worlds – switch to split ring, pause before bhs – switch ring, little arm wave before bhs – aerial, way short and a second fall – stag ring to korbut is lovely – Yurchenko loop to her belly and basically almost rolls forward to flop on the ground but I think held her feetup – double tuck dismount, super deep, large lunge forward, just did once again avoid a fall. Thanks, I hate it here.

China will be on 39.199, which is still high in the grand scheme but not nearly the beam score they were looking for. And we’re probably looking at only 1 Chinese beamer in the final.

I love that Luo still got 10.766 when basically falling 4 times.

Subdivision 5 – Rotation 2

Tang – FX – China – pulls out 2/1 to punch front, legs in 3/1 – 2.5 to front pike lands completely OOB – quad turn attempt was better today, but I’d say triple credit, but no huge deductions – double pike, chest well down but under control – split leap full and the rebound got fully crazy in the air and she was like, don’t worry about it, this is choreography and not a droopy fall.

Pedrick is off beam on her side somi, and she goes 11.700

13.066 for Tang on floor, which they’ll take.

Ou – FX – China – whip whip to 3/1, step to the side – back 2.5 to front tuck, step – double tuck, step back – switch ring and switch 1/2 – falls out of double L turn a little. But she’s the one who showed up the most so far today.

Spence – BB – Canada – candle mount, hit – hits wolf turn – aerial, knee to split jump wolf jump – bhs lay-pike, secure – side somi, hit – switch to switch 1/2 to bhs, pretty quickly connected – 1.5 dismount, step

Bachurina off bars on the low bar on a 1/2 turn that turned into a full turn that turned into a goodbye. And now she seems to have injured her hip area on her dismount.

12.533 for Spence. 13.400 for Ou Yushan.

Zhang – FX – China – falls out of quad turn attemp, not too bad – 2.5 to front pike, lands fully OOB – switch ring to siwtch 1/2, solid – whip to 3/1, bounce back – memmel turn, definite credit – double pike, deep, another lunge back OOB

Turner saves her loso series and her front aerial, large break at the hips – 12.866

Bachurina is being helped off the podium by medical staff.

Black – BB – Canada – switch mount, hit – switch 1/2, short of split, connected to korbut – double turn, hits it with a lean – front tuck, nice – bhs layout 2 feet, secure – side somi, solid – 2.5 dismount, small hop. Good work.

Ooof just 12.366 for Zhang on floor.

Wei hits 3/1 to front tuck – double tuck is shortish with an arm wave and step forward – 2.5, step lunge out – nice switch ring and switch 1/2.

Black went 13.266 on beam, which is now 4th place, ahead of Jones who drops to 5th.

Wei goes 12.733 on floor, which will count for the team score as China scores the same on floor as on beam. So that’s how beam went.

Subdivision 5 – Rotation 3

Pedrick – FX – Canada – popa, good completion – 1.5 through to 3/1, attempt, well short, lunges forward – froqnt tuck through to 2/1, slide back – double pike, step back – 12.900

Tang – VT – China – Yfull, pikes it down to get it, bounce back. 13.000

Ou – VT – China – similar to Tang, some pike in a yfull, but nearly had more control on landing until a kind of large arm wave cropped up on her small step to the side. 13.000 for her as well

Turner – FX – Canada – memmel turn to full turn – 3/1, step back

Zhang – VT – China – Tsuk 2/1 is a lot better than training, chest down and leg crossing but clearly hit and a medium step back. 13.833.

Wei – VT – China – yfull, piking, bounce back, a little more crunched on the table but still got some distance.

Turner 13.300 on floor.

Black – FX – Canada – popa, good – front full to double pike, step back – front 2/1 to front tuck, hop – split leap full, some low back leg – switch full, around – 2.5, some leg crossing, crossover step. Good. 13.266

Denommee – FX – Canada – nice high double tuck, small step right into the corner – split leap full – DLO, good amplitude, shuffle back, looked like she just stayed in – switch to switch 1/2 – wolf turn double – double pike, chest forward, hop. 13.266

Canada on pace to go comfortably ahead of Australia now, actually ahead of China overall now, but China still gets to go to bars.

Bachurina is back out doing beam, which surprises me after how much pain she looked after bars

Nathan – BB – Singapore – punch front moutn, step forward – switch 1/2, shorter, step abck – side aerial to loso series and falls – punch front, short, saves it with a bounce back – wolf to straddle – 2/1, about an 1/8 twist under, hop.

Subdivision 5 – Rotation 4

Yildiz with a very solid bhs bhs loso series on beam – straight jump 1/1 from side – aerial, a bit short but holds it into split jump wolf jump – side aerial, arm wave – check full turn –

Ou – Ub – China – van leeuwen, clean – blind to healy to piked jaeger, just a little close – pak, pretty – toe on to maloney to gienger – short cast hs on high – FTDT, little hop. Amid all the all-over-the-place China has been today, Ou has been the star. 14.166

Spence – VT – Y1.5 – hits it well, knees, medium hop forward. 13.633

Wei – UB – inbar full to komova to pak, clean – van leeuwen, good – inbar 1/2 to healy, a bit crooked but worked through it into piked jaeger – DLO 1/1, solid, some pike, little hop.

Denommee – VT – Canada – also hits a Y1.5, a bit more knees than Spence, larger hop forward

14.600 for Wei puts her behind Derwael, ahead of Jones in 2nd on bars.

Luo – UB – China – healy to ling to layout jaeger, nice – pak, clean – maloney to gienger, strong – healy 1/2 – FTDT, hop to the side. That was the one.

Tang – Ub – China – maloney to pak, good – van leeuwen – healy to ling to front giant full to piked jaeger, a bit close – DLO, chest forward, step.

The promise of China’s bars team delivered.

Pedrick with a good DTY, some leg crossing, bounce back. Really nice day for Canada overall.

14.333 for Tang’s bars is slightly ahead of Ou, so that will count. China finishes on 162.064, 5 points behind the US. Canada will be comfortably in 3rd.

Pedrick’s second vault is a ro 1/2 on front tuck with a stumble back.

Subdivision 7 – Rotation 1

We’re back from the break for the Netherlands/Japan/Finland subdivision, where Japan and the Netherlands will be aiming at minimum to beat that Australian 156.095 because that’s starting to look like the absolute score that must be defeated for TF.

Current last-in scores to watch are Black’s 13.933 on bars, Casabuena’s 12.966 on beam, and Melanie’s 13.266 on floor.

Netherlands was like, “Fuck this no-stage thing, we’re still going to choreograph something and Eythora is the star of this class.”

Sakaguchi – FX – Japan – FTDT, chest a little down, step back – popa – 3/1, lovely in the air, good control on landing – switch ring – split leap full, around – back 1.5 to front full, little hop to the side – 2.5, a bit short, step back.

Volleman – UB – Netherlands – shaposh to gienger, solid height – little arch in hs – jaeger, good distance – bail, clear vertical – clear hip to shoot to high – giant full, slightly crooked – FTDT, small hop.

13.066 for Sakaguchi.

I like the part where my browser fronze during Eythora’s perfect bars routine, so it didn’t save the quick hits, but it was glorious. Honestly should get the highest E score on bars of the meet so far.

13.833 for Thorsdottir with 8.333 execution. So not quite the highest but it should have been.

Visser – UB – Netherlands – stalder tkatchev 1/2 to yezhova, one of her better editions – stalder full to stalser shap to pak – van leeuwen, legs together – giant full – FTDT, little hop. Another excellent one.

Miyata – FX – Japan – DLO 1/1, some loose legs throughout but controlled the landing pretty well – whip whip to 2.5, little hop – 1.5 to front full, hop forward – switch – split leap full, short of split – double pike, stuck landing, chest down.

14.400 for Visser puts her in 5th on bars.

Veerman – UB – Nehterlands – jaeger, hit – stalder tkatchev piked to pak to maloney to bhardwaj, hit combo, some leg form in bhardwaj – toe full to van leeuwen, some feet – FTDT, small hop.

That was the best bars rotation NED could have hoped for.

14.533 for Veerman puts her in 5th now on bars. I have some issues with the closeness of her E score to the previous two.

Miyata went 13.600 on floor (!) which puts her 4th.

Watanabe – FX – Japan – double back, bounce – popa – 2.5 to front pike, good amplitude on pike – switch 1/2 – double turn, tried triple but was under – back 1.5 to front full, hit – 2/1, stuck.

Netherlands with a huge 42.766 on bars, ahead of the US there

Peterkova falls on her front walkover mount on beam – resumes with aerial, check – switch to split to straddle, well connected – bhs loso series, 2nd fall – switch ring was hit – punch front full, step forward.

Japan 39.766 on floor is up toward the top there, 3rd-best floor score.

Subdivision 7 – Rotation 2

Volleman – BB – bhs mount, keeps it on with a step back and arm wave – illusion turn, hit – fhs, then a kickover front, kind of connected, check – L turn, hit – side somi, secure – double turn, hits it – switch to cat leap – korbut – gainer layout dismount, solid landing.

Tanskanen with a solid hit on bars, ending with a double tuck, step to the side.

Sakaguchi – VT – Japan – very good DTY, small slide back and some chest forward.

12.533 for Volleman.

Thorsdottir – BB – Netherlands – loso mount and falls immediately – aerail is lovely, pause before split, pause before bhs – side aerial to loso, 2nd fall – L turn to switch to y spin to full turn, pretty combination but risking combo credit – illusion, turn to the side correction – 2.5 dismount, lunge forward.

Yamada went 13.233 on vault.

Miyata – VT – Japan – DTY – NAILED her DTY, what an excellent landing, just some leg crossing.

Kuusikko went 12.866 on bars.

Hautala – UB – Finland – toie 1/2 with leg break to jaeger, hit – Hindorff supppper close but worked out of it – bail, small leg break on catch – toe full, crooked late but continues – toe shoot – double pike dismount, two lunges back.

Miyata VT 2 – deep landing on Tsuk1.5, a couple lunges back to save it.

De Ruiter falls on her mount on beam – bhs loso series is hit, just a bit of knees – aerial, check – L turn, large break, lean to the side, bend at the hips – side aerial, secure landing – 1.5 dismount, little movement.

Makela – UB – clear hip to maloney to pak, small leg breaks – misses van leeuwen, can’t catch, well short of the high bar – resumes with a good jaeger – toe 1/2 – giant full, late finish – DLO, hop forward

Eythora went 11.666 on beam, de Ruiter 11.233 despite one fewer fall.

Visser – UB – Netherlands – bhs mount is good – switch, pause before side somi, hit – split jump 1/2 from side is hit – straight jump full from side, also on – side aerial to bhs, lean correction – double turn is lovely – split leap to sissone, pretty – ro bhs 2/1, little hop.

Japan went 41.633 to stay in very good shape.

For as good as Netherlands was on bars…then there was beam. 36.932 there, which ranks 8th so far.

Subdivision 7 – Rotation 3

Volleman – FX – Netherlands – triple turn is around – double tuck to punch front, cowboys the double tuck, but secure – double L turn to illusion, I’m glad she’s not going that held-leg double turn anymore – 2.5, step forward – doubel y spin – switch 1/2 – I’d say she gets credit for that quad turn, connects to double turn. The first real quad turn we’ve seen at the meet. 13.200

Kuusikko hits beam, slide back on 1.5 dismount.

Yamada leads off Japan on bars with 13.666

Watanabe – UB – Japan – stalder to stalder shap to pak, good height – maloney to bail, big arch but brings it back to toe shoot – toe full blind to jaeger, hit – toe 1/2 – DLO, small step into salute step. 12.933

Visser – FX – Netherlands – deep 3/1 to front tuck, though not as deep as training – double L turn t- double turn – double y to illusion probably gets credit for all of that – 2/1, bounce back – switch ring and split leap full – double tuck, landed in a ball but hit and under control. 13.666

Miyara – UB – Japan – jaeger, solid – arch on handstand, brings it back – Church to pak, pak is too close and she has to muscle up to toe on – maloney to gienger, solid – short hs on high – giant full – FTDT, hop to the side. Well iot was an adventure but she stayed on.

Thorsdottir – FX – Netherlands – 3/1 to front tuck is hit – double L a little inder, connected to double turn, double y, illusion – double tuck, step back – switch ring to split leap full, a little tight on the split leap – back 1.5 to front tuck and falls, got nothing into that front tuck. A mournful ending indeed.

Watanabe’s bars score is out first inquiry of the meet.

13.500 for Fukasawa, so Japan goes 40.099 on bars, keeping them ahead of Canada’s team score pace.

Tanskanen – BB – Finland – spins herself right off the beam on a double wolf attempt. When wolf turns attack – resumes with bhs loso loso series, check – hits side somi – aerial, solid – 2/1 dismount, step back.

Eythora 12.466 with a fall.

De Ruiter  – FX NED – split leap full – double pike, looks like she got her feet stuck under her and sat down – front full, step – double tuck, secure landing – switch ring – switch 1/2 –

Watanabe’s inquity was accepted and her routine is up to 13.233, which takes Japan’s bars up to 40.399.

Subdivision 7 – Rotation 4

Sakaguchi – BB – Japan – switch to split to straddle, strong – side aerial to loso, secure, good amplitude – switch ring, not quite there – aerial, just a little short but a secure landing – wolf double comes through, a little slow – side somi, hit – 2.5 dismount, step forward. Very good job.

Visser – Vt – solid layout position in her yfull, bounce.

Big 13.466 for Sakaguchi on beam!

Yamada – BB – Japan – wolf double, clean – switch leap, nice – bhs loso, arm wave – front tuck, deep, but holds it securely – aerial, hit – split ring leap – side aerial, secure – double pike, chest really low but landed

Thorsdottir hits her DTY, a couple steps back. 13.800

Visser goes into 4th in the AA between Ou and Black. De Ruiter also hits her yfull. Critical score to see if Netherlands can pass Canada in the team scores. Otherwise, TF will be tough.

Miyata with a large break on her 2 foot layout on beam but stays on – switch to sissone, hit – aerial to split jump to bhs – double turn, has to turn to the side to keep it together but does – side aerial, secure – side somi, hit – double pike, chest down but good control.

De Ruiter’s score will not improve Netherlands’ total, so they’ll end up about three tenths behind Canda.

The Miyata routine will take Japan above Canada when her score comes up. And it’s a 13.700, which takes them .002 ahead of France as well.

Watanabe – BB – Japan – front pike mount, excellent – 2 foot layout, nailed it – switch to switch 1/2, nice positions – aerial, check, arm wave – full turn, good – side aerial, strong – 2.5 dismount, hop to the side.

Very impressive day for Japan and we’ll wait to see if this score is enough to pass China.

13.600 for Watanabe. Insanely good beam score for Japan overall, and that will put them ahead of China.

After 7
USA – 167.263
Japan – 162.564
China – 162.064
France – 161.428
Canada – 159.661
Netherlands – 159.396
Australia – 156.095
Belgium – 156.063

Miyata moves into 4th in the AA and Visser is 5th. Veerman and Visser in the top 8 on bars for now. Miyata and Watanabe on pace to make the beam final at this point. Miyata may also make the floor final.

Subdivision 8 – Rotation 1

It’s Brazil time. Brazil will view Japan’s 2nd-place score right now as very beatable, so 2nd place should be the goal here.

Danusia just said the words “Rebeca Andrade” and then we heard some sort of banshee shriek of excitement from the right.

Soares – BB – Brazil – eponymous candle 1/2 mount – wolf double, slight hesitation, fine – bhs loso, large break, lean to the side, keeps it on the beam – aerial, pause before split jump, pause before back tuck – swtich, nice – split leap 1/2, secure – wolf jump to sissone – bhs bhs double pike, lunge back. A nervvvvvyyyy routine but she stayed on.

Malewski went 12.666 to start Germany on floor.

Macias – UB – Argentina – toe full to stalder shap to pak, nice combination – can leeuwen – toe 1/2 to jaeger, good height – double tuck, hop forward. Pretty good routine.

12.466 for Soares on beam.

Andrade – BB – Brazil – switch mount, small arm wave – switch to switch 1/2 to split, good work – bhs loso, large leg up wobble, brings it back – aerial to split ring – switch ring, small check – side aerial, nice – wolf jump to sissone, good back leg position – full turn – ro bhs double pike, step back. One larger break but otherwise solid.

Quaas 12.233 FX for Germany.

Schoenmaier on FX starts with a solid FTDT, good control – double tuck, bounce back, good tuck position –

Andrade 13.400 on beam.

Saraiva – BB – bhs mount, good – split jump to korbut, hit – 2 foot layout, secure – full turn – bhs loso loso and falls – FLAVIA – switch ring, secure, bealitful – aerial to split ring jump – side somi, lean forward – split leap to sissone – double pike, step back. FLAVIA.

Koenig – FX – Germany – double tuck, good control – 1.5 to front full low but solid, little hop forward – switch to split leap full – wolf double, rises out of it but around – 2.5, step forward.

Long wait for Flavia’s skill. Donatella probably over to figure out how to get her into the final anyway.

13.000 for Koenig on floor. 38.266 total for Germany.

Flavia’s score in with 12.900 with a fall.

Pedro – BB – Brazil – switch to split 1/2, secure – bhs loso series and falls – resumes with solid aerial to split to bhs – finishes with double tuck, step back.

So we’re looking at Brazil with a 38.766 on beam, which is still 4th on the event. Now they’ll be aiming for a team score that hits 41 on floor to try to make up the 2 point beam gap against Japan.

Subdivision 8 – Rotation 2

Seitz leads off vault for Germany with her Yfull, solid, high, easy for her, bounce back. 13.466

Pedro – FX – Brazil – whip to double arabian, step forward, keeps it in bounds – double tuck, bounce back – split jump full, a low front leg there – switch – swithc leap full – 2/1, legs crossing, bounce back – switch 1/2 – double pike, chest down, minor step back. 12.833

Martinez falls on beam for Argentina.

Koenig – VT – Germany – Tsuk layout full – clean in the air but a large bounce back and another little hop

Soares – FX – Brazil – double arabian, bounce forward OOB – FTDT, stuck landing – double y spin, switch ring to split leap full – wolf triple, gets it around – doubel tuck, little bounce – split jump full – doubel pike, bounce back

13.466 for Soares.

Andrade – FX – Brazil – front full through tFTDT, nice job, cone step back – DLO 1/1, solid layout position, lunge back – swiotch 1/1 is around – falls out of double Y spin with a stumble on one foot – DLO, great today, bounce back – split leap full – double pike, a little out of control on the bounce back but stays in. Much better than podium training.

Andrade goes 14.200 for first place on floor even with falling to Mercury on her Memmel.

Saraiva – FX – Brazil – whip to FTDT, solid landing, step – switch full, excellent – DLO, a little deep, step back stayed in bounds – split leap 1.5, wrenches it around – switch ring 1/2, the only who who is allowed to try it – 1.5 to front full, solid landing – double pike, chest forward but control the landing.

Brazil will definitely easily break that 41 mark on floor.

Flavia also goes 14.200 on floor but is ahead of Andrade on execution. Brazil goes 41.866 on floor to nearly match the US number there.

Subdivision 8 – Rotation 3

Wildi – BB – SUI – hits her front pikel mount with a check – falls on loso series –

Koenig very close catch on a Jaeger on bars

Pedro – VT – Brazil – Yfull – good hit, bounce back with both feet, some leg separation. 12.933

Malewski – UB – piked jaeger, hit – pak to toe on toe toe full, good finish position – hits van leeuwen – doubel front, hop back. A good one. 13.333

Saraiva – VT – Brazil – hits her DTY, just a little jarring with her chest forward on landing but not a ton of movement.

Mesropian – FX – Argentina – double tuck, a bit forward, hop – 2/1, bounce back, some leg crossing – switch to split leap full –

Andrade – VT 1 – Cheng is magnificant, very high, pretty, landed just ever so slightly forward with a hop. A casual 15.066 nonetheless

Andrade – VT 2 – WHHAAAAAAA she botches her DTY attempt and ends up just doing a yurchgenko back tuck. We’re far away from the steps portion of the vault runway but I assume something was wrong with them.

Seitsz – UIb – Germany – stalder shap to ricna – jaeger, good – Church to pak, very clean – van leeuwen, small leg break – toe full, good into FTDT, hop to the side. Good work. Bars final is starting to get tiggghttt.

I’m really hoping Andrade still makes vault final with a 3.00 D score second vault.

Ooooh 14.400 for Seitz is into just 7th on bars. This is such a tough final. That bumps melanie to 8th with the Italians still to go.

11.466 for Andrade’s second vault, which puts her in 11th on vault (10th with 2 per) so she will not make the vault final. GASP.

Oliveira – VT – Brazil – fairly messy Yfull, lots of knees and feet and a bounce back

Brazil will still go 41.832, which gains them tenths on Japan.

Subdivision 8 – Rotation 4

Quaas is off on her bhs loso series for Germany.

Pedro – UB – Brazil – shaposh to pak, some leg break to toe full – maloney to bail to toe shoot, solid – blind to jager, high, foot form – double pike, feet, hop forward. 12.800

Oliveira – UB – Brazil – maloney to pak, pretty – toe on to van leeuwen, clean – front giant full to piked jaeger – doubel front 1/2 out dismount, step to the side. Good. 13.233

Some super secure acro elements from koenig on beam – kickover front a bit more shaky but nice work.

Saraiva – UB – Brazil – toe full good finsih into piked tkatchebv to pak, solid – toe on to maloney to gienger, hit – only dismounts with a flyaway after that vault landing. So that will be something to watch in later phases of the comp.

Schoenmaier with a big wobble on her front tuck mount on beam but keeps it on. Lean correction on loso series.

13.200 for Saraiva.

Andrade – UB – Brazil – maloney to stalder full to piked tkatchev to pak, lovely – van leeuwen, legs right together – blind to piked jaeger, hit – toe full to FTDT, stuck landing. Amazing.

14.666 adn third place.

Malewski – BB – Germany – loso mount, secure – sdie aerial  to loso, leg-up wobble, keeps it on. Switch to switch 1/2 to split, some feet, good combination – aerial, holds it – wolf double and has to grabs the beam and sit down and you didn’t see anything that’s barely a deduction because wolf turn – stuck layout 1/1.

Andrade’s bars takes Brazil into 2nd place, a point ahead of Japan.

Andrade’s score knocks De Jesus Dos Santos out of the bars final. Seitz is now into the 8th position.

So we ended up with a 12.933 for Malewski, which will keep Germany in 10th place as a team.

It’s Italy time, their chance to see if they can be more dramatic and chaotic than Brazil. A tough category.

Abdelsalam – FX – Egypt – L turn – doubel tuck, little bounce – double pike, stumble back OOB

Nice dance element positions from Huang on beam for TPE

Villa – UB – Italy – tkatchev to pak to maloney to bhardwaj, lovely – van leeuwen, clean – front giant full – 1/2 turn, scoots back to the middle – FTDT, hop back. Nicely done.

Hilton – VT – Ireland – pretty solid yfull, composed shape, hop to the side.

14.166 for Villa to start for Italy. Big opening score.

Maggio – Ub – Italy – good first hs – Ray to pak, very high – stalder full to maloney to tkatchev, clean – bail, good vertical – toe full, little leg break hesitation, toe shoot to high, slightly short on hs – double Arabian dismount, nearly holds stick, step forward.

Lai Pin Ju a number of steps back on her bhs back tuck series but keeps it on the beam.

Maggio goes 14.200 on bars. I would not have had her ahead of Villa.

D;Amato – Ub – Italy – good first hs – maloney to tkatchev, just a bit close – stalder tkatchev piked to pak to stalder shap 1/2, no trouble today – front giant full across the bars to double front 1/2 out, trouble on the dismount , chest down and a large lunge to the side and off the mat for an additional step.

Mai Liu – BB – TPE – front tuck mount, hit – wolf jump full from side position is nice to see – side aerial to swingdown, a little awkward but hit – side somi, hodls it well – oh and a fun front gainer tuck 1.5 dismount. Can’t recall that.

14.400 for D’Amato. Nothing matters I guess. I actually don’t understand how you get up to 8.1 E score there when 8.566 is the highest for ANYONE.

Esposito – UB – Italy – Church to pak, very good – maloney to bhardwa, clean – van leeuwen – some short cast handstands – double front, deep landing, bounce forward.

13.966 for Esposito will be the drop score as Italy goes 42.766, second on bars to China.

No one from Italy knocks Seitz out of the final qualifying position on bars.

Ting – BB – TPE – switch to switch 1/2, solid sequence – aerial to bhs split jump, lovely – switch to split ring jump to korbut, smooth combination – side somi, very secure – punch front layout full, little shuffle forward. AMAZING.

13.000 for Ting, which is a great score, but I wanted final and I think it merited that.

Subdivision 9 – Rotation 2

Annnnd Villa is off on her back tuck full series – wolf triple is lovely – switch to split to wolf, smalll pause before wolf, good elements – double turn, works it out well – side aerial, strong – 2/1 dismount, large bounce back

Hilton – Ub – Ireland – jaeger, clean – short cast hs – pak, leg separation – maloney, just foes catch it into clear hip but she’s just struggling to keep going at this point with an improvised clear hip and some form on a clear hip full.

12.300 for Villa.

Maggio – BB – italy – switch mount, good – switch to sissone, pretty – bhs loso lsoo, solid, protects against a check with a quick arm wave – full turn – siwthc ring, large break, bend at the hips wobble – side aerial, another check – aerial, another leg-up check, she seems a little rattled now – side somi, arm wave to keep it on the beam – double pike, step back. She stayed on but gave away a bunch of wobbles in the 2nd half there.

12,900 for Maggio

D’Amato – BB – Italy – front tuck mount and immediately falls – ITALYYYY – punch front is solid – bhs loso series, good – switch to sissone, pretty – switch ring, comfortable – aerial, lean to the side – wolf turn double is hit – 2.5 dismount, bound forward.

Nancy Taman hits her DTY on vault for Egypt

Taman does ro 1/2 on front tuck 2nd vault.

Ting – FX – TPE – switch ring 1/2, hit – dfouble tuck, step back, chest down.

12.133 for D’Amato’s beam.

Esposito – BB – Italy – and she also immediately falls on her bhs mount – I REPEAT, ITALY – now just some Urazova bhs series work – aerial, arm wave – sissone – wolf double is hit – switch to split jump 1/2, short of split there – side aerial, check – doubel pike dismount, bounce back.

So no Italians in the bars final or the beam final.

So that’s going to be Italy on 37.333 for beam, which is 3.400 lower than Japan’s beam-leading score.

10.800 for Esposito.

Subdivision 9 – Rotation 3

OMG we still don’t have Ting’s FX score from the last rotation so they are holding Italy on floor.

Ibrahim Sharaf – UB – Egypt – clear hip 1/2 to jaeger, hit, a bit close – bail, some legs, collapses in elbows – clear hip, pulls it through to handstand – shoot to high – giant full – DLO, shuffle back, a couple steps.

Someone find Ting’s floor score and give it to the judges! It’s lost!

Kelly – BB – Barbados – split jump to wolf jump – aerial, nice – split jump 1/2 from side, secure – side aerial, good height but a large break, huge bend forward and a leg up – bhs loso series, hit – switch, pause befroe korbut, really nice switch position – wolf double, around – 2.5, step forward.

They found Ting’s floor score! It’s 12.266.

Maggio – FX – Italy – finally getting to start, most of the other events are almost done – wolf triple, around – DLO, very good landing – front loso to double pike, bounce back OOB with both feet – split ring leap switch ring 1/2, not bad, but bouncy – FTDT, a bit deep, bounce back – nice switch ring – doubel tuck, small slide back –

13.500 for Maggio with the 0.3 OOB

D’Amato – FX – Italy – memmel turn is very nice – whip whip to 3/1, nice, little slide back – double pike, chest somewhat down, bounce back – wolf double, around – split leap full – front 2/1, solid, hop forward – ends with switch ring.

Hilton with a nice loso mount on beam – side aerial to loso series is aslo hit – switch to split to straddle, good rhythm – switch 1/2, short of split but hit – wolf triple, smoothly done – 2/1 dismount, bounce back – really nice!

13.600 for Alice D’Amato, so Italy should at least have some floor event finalists.

Mandriota – FX – Italy – wolf double is a little under 2 full turns – whip to 3/1, some leg form, bounce back – back 1.5 to front full, hop forward – switch ring – switch 1/2 – double y spin to double turn – double pike, stuck landing –

All other events are done now. 12.933 for Mandriota.

Esposito – FX – Italy – wolf triple, very good – 2.5 to front lay, just a little short, hop forward – split leap 1.5 attempt, not around – doubleishy spin to illusion is lovely – switch full, nicely done – back 1.5 to front full, step – doubel tuck, stuck landing, chest down. Well done.

13.466 for Esposito. Drat, I was hoping for a floor final for her. So close.

40.566 for italy’s floor, which is an important recovery rotation.

Subdivision 9 – Rotation 4

Italy needs to vault a 41.900 to move ahead of Japan for 3rd place.

Maggio opens with a stuck Y1.5, just like at nationals. Some knee form, otherwise not much to take, an excellent vault. 14.200

Ibrahim Sharaf holds onto a side aerial loso series on beam with a check.

D’Amato – VT – Italy – chest down landing on her DTY with a hop forward, some leg crossing. Still goes 14.233

Mandriota – VT – Italy – secure landing on her Y1.5, brings the heels together – more form than from Maggio.

Abdelsalam falls on loso series on beam

Slevin – FX – Ireland – wolf 2.75 – double tuck, big stumble back OOB and sits it down

Esposito finishes Italy’s day with a high Y 1.5, hop back

Mandriota’s 1.5 was enough to get Italy to 42.133 on vault, so they will pass Japan and sit in 3rd in the team standings.

Aboelhasan – BB  – Egypt – hits her switch mount – switch 1/2, step, arm wave – aerial, really long but low and falls – bhs loso, check – side somi, lean forward at the hips to hold onto it – largeish break on back extension roll – layout full dismount with hop.

Hilton – FX – Ireland – wolf triple, around – front lay to front 2/1 attempt, foot slips out, hand down – ro double tuck, chest down, step forward – split leap full, under – switch 1/2 to pike jump full, somewaht out of control – 2.5, crossover step.

Ting – UB – TPE – maloney, legs apart to gienger, catches – blind to jaeger, hit – bail, legs apart, connected to toe shoot – giant full – flyaway dismount

Katsali – FX – Greece – double pike, sits it down

Mai Liu – Ub – TPE – clear hip to giant full to gienger, good height, leg separation – jager, nice – bail, elbows, leg separation – 2/1 twist dismount, bounce back.

Subdivision 10 – Rotation 1

Austria does have a pose introduction for us in their attempt to be the new Netherlands.

Jennifer Gadirova is only on floor for GB, where Fenton will not go.

Gehani – FX – REALLY nice quad turn – FTDT, small steps to the side – 2.5 to front tuck, way OOB and sits it down – and now she’s down on the floor being seen to by medical staff. Yikes.

Charlize Moerz with a ridic save on her side somi which she landed with her butt basically touching the beam.

Jes Gadirova – UB – piked jaeger, really close catch, continues – tkatchev 1/2 to yezhova is hit – maloney to pak, legs – van leeuwen – short cast hs – giant full – FTDT, hop forward.

Medics still seeing to Gehani.

11.533 for Moerz.

13.166 for Gadirova.

Kinsella – UB – good first hs – toe 1/2 to piked jaeger – Piked Ricna to pak, clean – maloney to gienger, some leg separation – teo full to doubel arabian, holds the stick. Good one.

Gehani is now being taken off the floor on a stretcher.

Kinsella gets a huge number, 14.166

Achampong – UB – inbar to inbar 1/2 to jaeger, a bit close on catch but fine – stalder tkatcchev piked and hits the low bar with her foot trying to connect to pak and comes off the bars – toe full – stalder shap 1/2 – FTDT, chest down, little hop

Big save from Mader on beam on her side aerial. Finishes with a stuck gainer pike.

Fenton – UB – toe on tkatchev piked 1/2 to yezhova, good, to maloney to pak – van leeuwen, solid legs together – clear hip to giant full – to FTDT, chest forward, little hop. Nice one.

14.133 for Fenton on bars, behind Kinsella.

GB goes 41.465 on bars, a very solid number.

Subdivision 10 – Rotation 2

Fenton – BB – GB – loso mount, step back – double turn, lovely – side aerial to bhs, clean – aerial, a bit of knee, to split jump, back foot, check – y spin, check – wolf turn triple, hit – switch to split, good extension – dobule tuck dismount, sits it down. IT WAS GOING SO WELLLLLL.

12.100 for Fenton

Kinsella – BB – GB – switch mount, check – aerial, small pause befroe split jump, hit – side aerial to loso loso is right on, well done – wolf double, solid – switch to switch 1/2, a bit short of split – double pike dismount, step back. A hit.

Toessebro – UB – blind to jaeger, hit with some foot form – bail, solid enough vertical – shoot to high – giant full – flyaway dismount

13.066 for Kinsella will not pass Ellie Black for the beam final.

Jes Gadirova – BB – candle mount, hit – switch to switch 1/2, short of position, to korbut – wolf double, just does squeak it around – aerial, some knee bend – split to straddle, leg-up wobble – bhs loso, secure – side aerial, solid – double pike, chest forward, step.

12.933 for her.

Achampong – BB – front walkover mount, good – aerail to split to straddle, lovely elements – bhs loso loso, well done, very secure – side aerial, leg swing up – switch ring with some foot flexing – y spin – split ring jump, small check – bhs bsh 2.5 dismount, large lunge forward off the mat and then another step. Almost another dismount fall apart. 12.966.

38.965 for GB on beam, which is 4th place on beam.

Subdivision 10 – Rotation 3

Jen Gadirova – FX – DLO, pretty solid, slide back, high – split jump full, definitely around – FTDT, chest down but secure – switch ring to split leap full, good – switch 1/1 has to wrench it around but does – front tuck through to double tuck – hop

Tronrud grabs the beam on her illusion turn.

13.600 for Gadirova is into the floor final for now if she stays 2 per country, knocking out Maggio.

Achampong – FX – whip whip to 3/1, bounce back – split jump full, around, some back leg – front 2/1, secure landing – switch ring, good – split leap full, smooth landing – double tuck, chest down, bounce back – swtich 1/2 – 2.5, larger bound forward. 13.333

Kinsella – FX – back 1.5 throiugh to 3/1, bounce back and OOB – 2.5 to front full, doesn’t get much on the front full, lands short and sits it down – double pike, bounce back –

12.300.

Jes Gadirova – FX – Silivas was realtively silivasy today and not so laid out at the beginning, but a large bounce back OOB – DLO 1/1 is strong – switch ring  – split leap 1.5 – switch 1/1, both around – front full throigh to double tuck, good stuck landing.

Still goes 14.100 with an 8.300. So both Gadirovas into floor finals, knocking out Miyata and Maggio. Alice D’Amato is the only Italian event finalist as the last qualifier on floor.

Subdivision 10 – Rotation 4

Mader – UB – Austria – toe full, hit – maloney to bail, lovely vertical – toe on to toe shoot – clind to jaeger, high – toe 1/2 – doubel tuck, step forward. 12.333

Fenton – VT – very nice Y1.5, small hop back, pretty good leg position. 13.900

Kinsella – VT – DTY – a well controlled landing, small bounce back – some leg crossing. 14.266

Jes Gadirova – VT 1 – DTY – huge amplitude – so much that it was a little bit of trouble to control the bounce back, but should score well

Kickinger – clear hip to maloney to pak, hit – van leeuwen – arched hs on high bar – jaeger, some feet – ggiant full – toe tuck 1/2 dismount, shuffle back, good. 14.400

She goes into 5th AA with 54.599 to make the top rotation group.

Jes Gadirova – VT 2 – Lopez – hit vault, chest forward, with a hop to the side. That will knock Raz out of the vault final.

We’re still waiting on the very first floor score of this rotation, so we’ve got a while to go there.

That’s enough to put GB over Brazil and into second place.

Achampong – VT – very high DTY, good direction, hop back, chest slightly down

14.466 for her. GB is done on 164.595, more than a point ahead of Brazil, who gets bumped down to 3rd.

Achampong comes in just .200 behind Kinsella to miss the AA final.

We’ve still got a couple floor routines to go, but…….our qualifiers:

And it’s over!

World Championships Qualification Live Blog — Day 1

It’s actually starting! I’m here at the arena in Liverpool to give you all the live updates on the competition that the lack of streaming is cruelly keeping from you.

In the first subdivision, we have the US and Belgium. The US women made an adjustment from their podium training order and will be competing Skye Blakely on bars rather than Leanne Wong, yet keeping Wong on vault. Wong is theoretically on this team for bars—that’s how she made up the highest-scoring five—so if you were going to have her on an event, you’d think it would be bars. But Blakely also looked very good on bars in PT while Wong missed her main routine.

It’s a shame for Blakely not to be on vault because her DTY also looked quite strong in training, where she was performing like a top-3 all-arounder for this team. At the same time, I imagine they were conscious of not just pulling Wong from the meet entirely given what happened with Dowell in 2013 and how much crap Martha and Co got for it—and that was even before anyone pretended to cared about feelings.

Belgium has also pulled Noemie Louon from the competition after her podium training injury on her beam dismount and have replaced her with alternate Ylea Tollet, who will do vault and floor since Derwael is only on bars and beam right now.

The Spanish team has also been decimated with Marina Gonzalez and Lorena Medina joining Alba Petisco on the injured list, so they will be competing first alternate Maia Llacer as well as second alternate Laia Masferrer here.

So we’re 18 minutes out from the start of sub 1. Danusia and some boy I don’t recognize and may or may not be supposed to are doing the in-arena crowd-pumping action. I’d say we’re about half full at this point.

“Welcome to Our World” is not doing it for me.

Now Watanabe is teaching us about The Beatles. And how they are also the same as gymnastics. I’m not really sure.

Georgia Godwin and Joe Fraser are doing the athletes’ oath.

Watanabe has now declared the world championships open. No cauldron has been lit. What are you even doing.

Now it’s a second song performance. We’re all thrilled.

Now the gymnasts are walking out. US women are fully in their Blue Period.

Warmups begin.

Subdivision 1 Rotation 1

Blakely – FX – DLO 1/1, good, little bounce, some pike – again solid, small shuffle – wolf double – switch ring to split leap 1.5, I’d say credit full twist – back 2.5 – switch 1/2, nice – double tuck, a couple steps back there but stays in. Good one.

Derwael – BB – falls immediately on loso mount – hits loso series – hits aerial with a check – dismounts gainer piuke full with hop forward

Kanter 11.666 UB. I can’t see the vault scoreboard from my position so we may have to wait on some of those numbers.

Long ass scoring waits already for the first routines on beam and floor.

12.566 for Derwael

Jones – FX – double double, good, small hop back – split leap full – DLO, lands short, chest down, hop forward – L turn double was around – front tuck through to double tuck, good landing – switch 1/2, pretty. Good one overall, we’ll see how much the DLO landing costs her.

It was 13.600 for Blakely, which is a big start.

13.800 for Jones.

12.700 for Vaelen on beam.

Chiles – FX – 1.5 through to FTDT, just a tad short, small hop – DLO 1/1, excellent landing – wolf double, pulls it around, high position – L hop full to split leap full – switch side 1/2 is cheated around a little – front loso to double tuck, chest a bit forward, hop.

Good Y1.5 second vault from Belak.

Leg up wobble from Verkest on an aerial on beam. 1.5 dismount with bound forward.

Gahramanova pulled out a handspring front tuck with a large lunge forward on vault.

14.100 for Chiles. We’re not the Olympics anymore I guess.

Carey – FX – Moors, good control on landing, just a small bounce – DLO 1/1, small pike, again great landing control – switch full, pulled the twist around clearly – front loso to double tuck, little shuffle – split leap full, small hop – FTDT, just does pull out the landing, it was a near knee-down situation, but she saved it with a lunge forward.

Brassart finishes beam with a hit double pike dismount, hop back.

11.833 for Brassart on beam.

Samanta on vault with a pretty solid handspring pike 1/2, lunge back.

14.066 for Carey, so she is behind Chiles but ahead of Jones for the EF.

So four hits and a big floor score for the US, as we would expect. There’s some surprise in the gang that Carey still outscored Jones with that last pass, but she did have exceptional security on her first two pass landings.

US on 41.966, Belgium on 37.099

Subdivision 1 – Rotation 2

Verkest – FX – double tuck, bounce back – double pike, quite short, lunge forward – switch ring and split leap full dance passage – wolf double is nicely twisted exactly two times around – front full,, lunge forward

Wong – VT 1 – lands her DTY, lots of leg crossing, somewhat deep, with a hop back to the center.

13.766 for Wong’s first vault.

Wong – VT 2 – ro 1/2 on layout 1/2 is pretty clean, bounce back, a little bit of pike, not too much.

Tollet – FX – double pike, large bounce back – front full to front tuck, small hop – wolf 1.6 – switch to split leap full – double tuck, bounce back

Angel Wong hits her front tuck beam mount – a little slow on fhe to back tuck attempted connection so we’ll see what happens there – switch 1/2, large break, bend at the hips – side aerial, great save, lots of arm waving but kept it on.

13.100 for Wong’s second vault

Jones – VT – fantastic height on DTY, not her most controlled landing, larger bounce back than warmup. great distance.

12.266 for Tollet.

Chiles – VT – fabbbbb stickish on her DTY, what an excellent vault. She follows 14.200 for Jones. 14.466 for Chiles.

Chiles VT 2 – Nailed her Lopez as well, even more of a stick than her first vault, maybe a little college step salute quickly after stick. Amazing set of two vaults.

Carey – VT 1 – better Cheng than in PT – lots of leg crossing, medium lunge back, slight bit of direction. 14.600 with a 9.000 E score.

Good high double Arabian from Vaelen on floor, shuffle forward on one foot to try to stay in bounds.

Carey – VT 2 – also a solid DTY, not too large on the bounce back.

Carey is a tenth ahead of Chiles, who is about 6 tenths ahead of Jones in the race for the AA.

Chan with a big save on her front tuck mount, leaned on one foot for a while and kept it on – bhs back tuck series and falls – switch 1/2 to split jump, hit – side aerial, pretty – punch front full dismount, small hop.

US now nearly 10 points ahead of Belgium in the team standings on 85.232. Three strong counting vaults there.

Subdivision 1 – Rotation 3

Chiles – UB – toe full good finish to high piked tkatchev to pak, clean – maloney to gienger, nice – solid cast hs – blind to piked jaeger, good – bailto toe shoot, solid – FTDT dismount, just a little rebound in place. She is ON.

Verkest went 12.833 on vault for a Yfull. Tollet follows with a Yfull, nice late twist initiation – large bounce back but a pretty vault overall.

14.066 for Chiles. Breaking 14 internationally is big for her.

Carey – UB – Ray, good – blind to yezhova, hit – hip angle in cast handstands – maloney to bhardwaj, hit, just a small leg separation – van leeuwen – giant full, late – FTDT, small hop back. Hit.

Vaelen – VT – hits her rudi, lots of leg crossing, one step back and then an additional crossover step into salute.

13.333 for Carey.

Blakely – UB – Stalder 1/2 to piked jaeger, clean – Ricna and falls – a shame, she’d been looking so good on everything – pak with a leg break – toe full, misses combination to van leeuwen, now does it – double front 1/2 out, step back.

12.566 for Blakely.

Jones – UB – Stalder full great finish position to stalder shap to tkatchev, lovely height – toe full to stalder tkatchev piked to pak, well done – van leeuwen, fine – toe 1/2 – double front, small hop. That was the one!

Minakovskaya is fighting through a couple falls in this beam routine, the only event still running. She hits a side aerial – bhs back lay 1/1 dismount, hop.

Lonnnnng wait for Jones UB score. Like REALLLLLY long. Like did they forget or die?

14.566 seems a little low. Wasn’t measurably different from her Paris EF routine.

Borg’s beam is the only thing left in this rotation – bhs loso series, leg-up wobble, saves it – side somi, falls – side aerial, small squeeze correction – rudi dismount, lunge back.

Now it is Chiles less than a tenth ahead of Jones in the AA. Jones has .567 on Carey. So, you know, it will be about staying on beam.

Subdivision 1 – Rotation 4

Carey – BB – forward roll mount – full turn – bhs loso loso series, secure – side aerial, hit, pause before split and straddle – aerial, hit – switch, pause before switch 1/2, short of split – switch side, slightly crooked in 180 – split jump 1/2 from side, secure – bhs bhs double pike, chest down, step.

Brassart with a hand down on her double front 1/2 dismount on bars.

Halvorsen survives a yurchenko lay-pike-tuck full with a lunge to the side.

13.133 for Carey.

Jones – BB – Arabian is excellent – switch, small adjustment but continues into sissone – bhs loso series, pretty, no check – switch side, good amplitude – straddle jump from side – side aerial, lean correction walking out of it – bhs bhs double pike, larrrgeee lunge back but saved the landing. A hit!

Vaelen hits a FTDT bars dismount, lunge back.

13.200 for Jones is enough to move ahead of Carey in the AA.

Blakely – BB – wolf turn triple is nicely done – back tuck full, awesome save, she bounced back and did a couple leans and stayed on – fhs front tuck, leg-up wobble – switch to switch 1/2, hit – aerial to split – near stick on a strong double tuck dismount.

Derwael – UB – Stalder tkatchev 1/2 to yezhova to Stalder shaposh to pak to maloney to bhardwaj, good combo – van leeuwen, solid – toe full to FTDT, little slide back. A good one.

Blakely still on 13.733 on beam even with a couple large mistakes.

14.700 for Derwael goes into first place on bars. Higher execution score than Jones.

Chiles – BB – falls on bhs loso! – She was having succcchhh a good day – aerial to straddle jump to bhs, hit – full turn – side somi, holds it securely – switch split, kind of splits the beam and falls again – that will cost her the AA for sure – side aerial – switch side, lean forward, brings it back – double pike dismount, small hop.

Just one of those no-good-very-bad beam days for Chiles.

So Jones and Carey will be the top 2 in the AA after the first subdivision. US will lead team of course. Carey leads vault, Derwael leads bars, Blakely leads beam, Chiles leads floor.

11.366 for Chiles. Actually would have been close between her and Carey if she had only fallen once.

So, the US performance was fine and will rank very well. Started better than it finished. Floor and vault were impressive today. Blakely fell on bars which means they had to count Carey’s score, which you would rather not do (where is Leanne), and then Chiles’ beam meant they were counting a couple low 13s. Blakely the top beam for the US but not her best. The 13.766 tells you that her best would be a HUGE number.

SO, we’re already on to the second subdivision with Spain and Romania, so let’s go.

Subdivision 2, Rotation 1

Llacer – FX – doubee tuck, small rebound – front full, step – saw a short landing on a pass out of the corner of my eye while watching Preda’s bars.

Preda – UB – clear hip 1/2 to jaeger, hit – Ray, good turnover – pak, leg separation – crazy van leeuwen, lots of tucking and leg separation – giant full gets off line, she can’t get over to handstand on her next giant and has to hop off – finishes with double pike, step.

12.066 Adalsteinsdottir on vault. Really strong landing for Gudmundsdottir to follow on her Yurchenko tucked full.

10.666 for Preda.

Barbosu – UB – maloney to clear hip full to giant swing to clear hip tkatchev piked – Ricna, solid – pak, clean – shaposh 1/2, some leg break – toe on – front giant 1/2 – FTDT, hop to the side. Nice job.

Lihie Raz saved a punch front on beam, very deep but somehow not a fall.

Emma Fernandez of Spain finishes her floor with a lovely stuck double pike.

Nice handspring front pike vault for Leon, small step.

13.433 for Barbosu on bars. 12.633 for Raz for beam.

Perea – Ecu – BB – switch to split, pretty nice – side aerial – switch 1/2, check, some foot position – bhs loso, solid, just a bit of knee position – full turn – hits side somi – step back on dismount. Nice one. 11.400. Pssh.

Casabuena – FX – piked full in, shuffle back – doubel tuck, small bounce, good chest up position – front full, a bit of knees – switch ring is pretty – split leap full, good extension – double pike, larger rebound back, stays in bounds.  13.200, a really good number.

Raya – FX – double tuck, small hop up in place – split leap full, short of 180 – nice triple turn – front full, medium step, – wolf double, around – switch to switch 1/2, she’ll get deducted for these split positions – double pike, does well to get her chest up quickly and minimize the moment, just a little scoot forward.

Subdivision 2, Rotation 2

Preda – BB – good bhs mount – side aerial to bhs hit – side somi, holds it with a little arm lean foreward – swithc to split to korbut, well connect, just a little foot form – switch 1/2, back leg, small check – split ring jump, small correction – full turn, overturns by a 1/4 – aerial, knee position – 2/1 dismount, lunge back. A hit.

Casabuena – VT – 2nd up for Spain – hits a clean yfull, bounce back, pretty solid position in the air

11.966 for Preda.

Barbosu – BB – hits front tuck mount with step forward – bhs front tuck series, another fantastic save (there have been a bunch of those toda), large lean forward onto one ball of the foot, stayed on – was secure after that until her switch ring, a bit hesitant and a step back – wolf double, no trouble – split leap 1/1, gets it around so will probably get credit, short of split – 2.5 dismount, step.

Maisferrer finishes vault for Spain with a very usable Yfull, just a bit of knees, somewhat forward, small hop.

Netzer – FX – FTDT, minor step back, good height, some leg form – 2.5 to front lay, small scoot back – switch to split leap full – double tuck, step back OOB – switch side 1/2 –

12.500 for Barbosu on beam

Spain was close with Belgium after floor but gave up quite a bit of ground on vault. They’ll hope to make it up by staying on beam in the last rotation.

Adalsteinsdottir – UB – weiler, can’t get up to handstand and stops – casts back up and gets her weiler to jaeger – bail, a little crooked – clear hip to toe shoot – giant full to back lay full dismount. Oh really pretty twist on that dismount. 11.033

Subdivision 2 – Rotation 3

Preda – FX – double y spin is around – double pike, bounce back – front full – switch full, good elevation – double tuck, just small movement – split leap full, good work – switch ring and split ring 1/2 as her dance passage. A good one.

Fernandez opens Spain’s bars with a hit. Raya with a very strange peel off going into a release on the high bar.

Barbosu – FX – FTDT, a bit short, hop forward – 2.5 to front full, good, hop to the side – hits double pike – double tuck, bounce back.

Lost arena wifi for a second there during Barbosu’s floor but we’re back now.

Raz hits her DTY, chest a bit forward, hop to the side.

Casabuena – UB – maloney to pak, feet flexed – van leeuwen, leg break – blind to piked jaeger, good height but close catch – giant full – toe on to delladio dismount, step back.

Adalsteinsdottir – BB – stomach roll mount – bhs loso, check, knees – L turn, good leg up position – split leap full, not bad! just a little short of split, around – side aerial is strong – switch, good position – cat leap, check, pause before split and straddle – split jump 1/2 from side, secure – 1.5 dismount, larrrgeee lunge forward off the mat. But I’m a fan.

Llacer – UB – fairly crazy yezhova with a leg break – shaposh to pak, hit, leg separation – maloney to gienger and falls, low element, couldn’t get her hand over. Spain will be counting a fall on bars. Resumes with clear hip to giant full to double pike, step forward.11.066

11.600 for Adalsteinsdottir.

Gudmundsdottir – BB – bhs loso series, pretty position – back tuck, secure – switch to wolf jump, low on wolf position – switch side, not quite to split, leg up wobble – straddle jump 1/2 from side, falls – resumes, side aerial, arm wave – just a back lay dismount, hop in place. 10.133

Subdivision 2 – Rotation 4

Preda hits her Yfull, medium step back, chest up, good direction.

Fernandez – BB – Spain – bhs mount, step back – bhs back pike series – side somi, chest way forward and falls – resumes successfully, has a nice position on her wolf jump. We’ve seen some dumpy ones today. Saves her double pike dismount with a lunge back.

The degree to which Milca Leon has improved since we first saw her at worlds in 2017 is stunning.

Raz – UB – maloney, some legs to pak, legs apart – toe shoot – toe on to giant full, solid finish position – she hits her legs on the low bar on her blind change and then again on the high bar on her connected piked jaeger and somehow didn’t come off on either. But then she sits her double front dismount.

Adalsteinsdottir did the first split leap 1.5 on floor of the day that I would credit.

Casabuena keeps her bhs loso loso series on the beam with a wobble – front tuck, step. Also showed a good aerial to split jump to back tuck mixed series. Saves a side somi with an arm wave. Double pike dismount, hop. 12.966

Raya – BB – back extension roll to switch to split, short back leg – attempts layout 2 feet and falls, so Spain will also count a fall on beam – side aerial, arm check – standing back tuck, secure – full turn, lean – double tuck dismount, hop back.

11.033

Masferrer – BB – candle mount, hit – bhs bhs loso, small leg up check – side aerial, hit – sissone to switch, short back leg on sissone but nice switch position – back tuck, secure – split jump 1/2 from side was a real struggle but she stayed on, bend over at the hips – 2/1, step back.

Pretty Memmel turn from Mueangphuan on floor.

So that’s enough of that. Just waiting for final scores now.

11.733 for Masferrer

World Championships Women’s Podium Training – Day 2

Back at it today for women’s subdivisions 3-10. I’ll keep you updated with what I’m seeing here in the arena throughout the day, and then I’ll do some more in-depth skill live blogging as needed when big things are happening.

In subdivision 3, we have South Korea, Ukraine, and a couple mixed groups. I’m interested to see how Korea looks because we haven’t seen much of them this year, just the hidden Asian Championship and some domestic competitions.

Meanwhile, there are about 955 Fujitsu cameras lining each apparatus podium today. In unrelated news, no broadcast of worlds until finals. The process is good and fine.

SUBDIVISION 3

Yeo Seojeong’s first rudi attempt is landed to her hands and knees with a gauntlet of three coaches standing there.

Comfortable Yurchenko full for Lee Yunseo.

For Ukraine, after Kozlovska struggled on a double tuck in her floor set, we have Kasianenko going, who hit a double Arabian and full in.

MUCH better rudi for Yeo Seojeong on her second attempt. Just a little short but landed upright and would score well. Coach still standing in to spot but she wouldn’t have needed it.

Now Yeo is working Yurchenko fulls, which look good. Her teammates are back to timers.

Now Yeo goes for the DTY, which is hit, stumble back with a couple steps.

Osipova went through her floor cleanly from what I saw, and Savelieva is also working the event.

Rolston-Larking has a nice Stalder position on bars.

While her Korean teammates are done, Yeo is still doing some handspring timers on vault.

In rotation 2, we have Lee Yunseo, very blonde now, on bars. starring on bars.

Yeo’s coach just caught her totally elegantly when she fell on a piked jaeger. Eom Dohyun was the first to do a full set and went through cleanly.

Lee Yunseo falls on her Komova in her first full routine attempt. She resumes with Van Leeuwen to inbar 1/2 to piked jaeger, which was quite nice. Stalder full to FTDT, landed, a bit deep.

Shin Solyi fell on her van leeuwen in her first full routine attempt.

Not sure Lee Dayeong is going to make the bars lineup, but I do like her potential ability on this event.

Lee Yunseo’s second full bars: Inbar full – Komova to pak to van leeuwen, gorgeous – inbar 1/2, pulls it around to piked jaeger – stalder full to FTDT, deep. She’s having a little bit of trouble getting that inbar 1/2 to go over the correct direction, so I’ll be watching that in competition, but she jusssst got it this time.

The veteran Lee Eunju, who I believe is listed as the alternate as of now, is also doing plenty of bars here.

Lee YS is far off on her Komova on her next attempt and the coach again catches her like a football, which elicits a round of applause from the other coaches watching in the stands today.

In rotation 3, Korea is on beam – Lee Yinseo – good wolf doubel turn, aerial to split to straddle – switch 1/2 (short) – side somi – switch to sssone – bhs loso – side aerial – 2/1 dismount. Good routine.

I don’t know if I’m just by the speakers, but the floor music is 8000 decibels too loud for this arena.

Ukraine is on bars in this rotation. Kasianenko had a dead hang on a shoot to high but otherwise through her bars routine.

Yeo hits a double pike beam dismount.

“AHH MY SHAPOSH VARIATION” has been a theme of this subdivion so far.

Rolston-Larking has Toxic as her floor music, which I think you all need to know.

I believe it was Eom (beam is very far away from me) who also hit a double pike beam dismount. She also had a very nice fhs front tuck combination. Though the beam double pikes are causing more problems for the Koreans on second attempt.

Kozlovska and Hubareva are still up on bars for Ukraine working on some trouble elements, a Jaeger for Kozlovska, and a Maloney for Hubareva. Hubareva got the Maloney to Gienger combination on her next attempt, though then missed on a jaeger.

The Korean team is all up redoing their beam dismounts now, as they’ve been trouble in later attempts.

Rotation 4 sees South Korea move to floor and Ukraine to beam. Lee YS just did a nice 3/1 in the warmup.

Kasianenko with a step forward on front tuck mount on beam, holds onto a pucnh front – switch and switch 1/2 – side aerial to layout stepout combination, also holds onto it – sissone and a lovely split jump – double tuck dismount, pulls it around.

Yeo with a nice DLO on floor. Lee YS follows her double Y spin for credit, double tuck, bounce back – 3/1, this one was a bit more trouble but hit, just a little shy of full rotation – switch 1/2, good – 1.5 to front full, small hop – double pike, short, step forward

Was about to say that Osipova had looked solid today, and then she fell on a loso. But she has been solid today.

SUBDIVISION 4

In this one we have Hungary, Australia, Sweden, and a mixed group.

McDonald for Australia showed a nice weiler to maloney to clear hip to high tkatchev in combination. Hands down on FTDT.

Godwin hit her legs on the mat on her pak in her first go through. The rest was her normal.

Good Markelov from Romi Brown.

Mayer for Hungary showing an open full in on floor.

So we saw McDonald, Godwin, Whitehead, and Brown warm up for Australia. And now they’re done on bars and Scott and GRB will get their turn.

I see Kovacs on the side in her warmups but have not seen her do any floor.

GRB as beautiful as ever in her stalder positions and line on bars but didn’t do a whole lot in the way of skills. Some circles, some pirouettes, then hopped off.

Yep, no floor for Kovacs at all as Hungary finishes up their first rotation.

I’d be a little worried about Australia’s dismounts, but the competition lineup group looked solid and prepared on the bars.

Kovacs is up and warming up vault for rotation 2.

Lovely toe point for Eriksson of Sweden on bars. Now one of the Westlunds just did a super high Pak. Basically, what I’m saying is I would like to just watch this Swedish team warm up toe-ons and that’s worlds.

Georgia Godwin hitting double pike beam dismounts.

McDonald stood up a little to wolfkino her double wolf but held it – front tuck is secure – doubel pike, a little short with a lunge

This time on beam, Australia has Romi Brown and GRB working in the second group after the first four went. Pretty much everyone is done in rotation 2, and GRB is just hanging out on beam being like, this is what skills should look like.

Eriksson and Paulsson still taking some turns on bars.

Really nice double pike from Breanna Scott on floor as we start elements in this third rotation. Interesting: Kovacs also still in her warmups as the other 5 Hungarians start warming up on bars.

Godwin sits down her first double front attempt.

Szekely just hit a pretty routine interior, no trouble there.

Romi Brown first up for Australia on floor – good double pike, 1.5 to front lay, double pike, bounce back

Good toe full finish position from Makovits.

Godwin – FX – wolf triple is well done – front lay to double front, sits it again – double tuck – double y spin – front full – double pike

Kovacs is back out with the gang for the beam warmup rotation. BB – switch mount to switch 1/2 to korbut, well done – side aerial, hops off – loso series is hit – aerail to straddle to split, good – double turn, fall – side somi, hit – switch, nice split – double tuck dismount, chest down but pulled it out.

Godwin with a near stick on her first Tsuk 1.5

The Westlund who is on floor right now is COMMITTING.

Szilagyi getting a chance to show off her one arm split handstand mount on beam, which is exceptional today.

SUBDIVISION 5

China and Canada to come in this one.

Spence through her first bars warmup cleanly.

China doing light bits to start on beam, Luo Rui sort of balked her 2 foot layout but then got back up and did it. Switch ring to bhs was glorious – aerial, fall – Yurchenko loop is excellent –

Ellie Black took a fall on her first bars touch.

he Licheng up on beam, good switch split mount – falls on her 2 foot layout – aerial + split ring jump with a check – side aerial, hit – timer dmt

Zhang Jin going now – good switch ring and split ring but a check – bhs bhs 2 feet layout, step back – bhs bsh 2/1 was good

Tang XJ – solid 2 foot layout, check – switch to split ring to bhs, good – switch ring – switch 1/2 – aerial, check – double pike dismount, gets it around, chest down. Good one.

Black hit the Black in a partial routine, good one

Ou Yushan with a good fhs to front tuck combo – switch to switch 1/2 to high korbut – switch ring to split ring, hit – practicing her combination into bhs split – aerial to straddle to bhs – side somi – 2.5 dismount, a bit short, step to the side. A stay on. No huge errors.

Luo Rui is back up now for a good 2 foot layout – switch to split ring to bhs, lovely – switch ring, check before bhs – aerail, check – stag ring is perfection, connected to Korbut – lands her Yuchenko loop like a mat draped over the beam this time, but covers – double tuck dismount.

Pretty good beam rotation for China overall, all 6 showing routines. Not a lot of falls, a lot of checks in combinations but normal PT stuff.

Meanwhile the abrupt and very loud sound cue just deafened both me and Emma Spence.

On to rotation 2

Spence with a good cnadle mount – wolf double nice, aerial, check – split to wolf –

tang – FX – 3/1 to front tuck is hit – 2.5 – attempts a quad turn, does not get it around but would get triple credit – double pike,c hest down – switch ring to switch 1/2 = split leap full – wolf double, not quite around.

Ou next on floor – whip whip to 3/1, lunge back – 2.5 to front pike and sits it down – wolf triple is around – double tuck, step back – tries a quad turn as well, falls out of it and a hand down – double L turn is around.

Zhang FX – also falls well out of a quad turn variation – 2.5 to front pike – switch ring is good – 3/1, pulls it around into connected split jump – memmel turn, also falls out of it some – double pike, chest down, hop –

He – FX – lovely memmel turn – 3/1, step, just a little underrotated – 2.5 to front tuck, step OOB – good switch ring and switch 1/2 – double pike, step back – double tuck, chest well down but landed.

Black back up on beam working double turns that look good.

China had some deeeep double saltos going on in that one. Also think that going for the quad turns hurts more than helps and the safer option may be the intentional triple turn.

Rotation 3 has China on vault, interested to see what the difficulty is there. We’re still in timers for now.

We’re seeing Tsuk fulls from Zhang and He so far.

Zhang now goes for the DTT, help with a spot, lands it to her feet, lots of leg crossing.

Now He also tries a DTT, sits it down.

Denommee up on floor for Canada now, DLO with a spot, but nice height

Better second DTT from He Licheng, landed with step back.

Now Zhang crashes a DTT to hands and knees.

Spence – FX – 1.5 through to 2/1, under control, some legs – wolf double, good – switch ring – split leap full – front tuck through to double tuck, short landing with a step forward

Final DTTs, He landed hers mostly, deep, step to the side. Zhang also deep, a little help from the spot, step.

Verdicts? I got nothing.

Five minute warning for this rotation, Canada is already long done on floor, Zhang is back up for MORE VAULTS. But just a FTT this time.

China goes to bars in rotation 4

Good handspring front full from Black on vault, controls the landing.

Spence hits a Y1.5 on vault with some knees.

Ou Ys – UB – van leeuwen – healy to piked jaeger – pak – toe on to maloney to gienge – pauses against the bar after gienger before FTDT with spot.

Wei XY – UB – inbar full to inbar shap to pak, good – van leeuwen – inbar 1/2 to healy to piked jaeger – DLO 1/1, step back. Nice job.

Luo – UB – hahahaha her foot kind of slipped on the springboard and she just ran through. BARS DONE. Starting for real and struggles on first hs, stops in hip support – healy to ling to excellent layout jaeger – beautiful pak – maloney, fingertips to gienger, good height – ling 1/2 – FTDT, good landing. After that first handstand, it was excellent.

Seeing the second half of Tang, healy ling front fiant full to piked jaeger, good – DLO, small step.

China can make up so much ground here with hits. The scoring potential is huge.

Hit from He. Zhang is up here but haven’t seen any bars from her yet. The main ones are back up to do partials now, but that Wei. Luo, Tang group should just be protected at all costs.

SUBDIVISION 6

We have France and Mexico headlining this one, also with Caitlin Rooskrantz in the individual group.

Everyone but Devillard will warm up bars for France, so no surprises there. How DJDS looks will be a major focus here.

Boyer – UB – maloney to a straddle pak – van leeuwen, looks like she hit the low bar on that one – piked jaeger, good height – toe full to double tuck, hop forward.

Friess – UB – maloney to clear hip to pak, also pretty straddled – toe full to van leeuwen, solid, some tucking – blind to jaeger, a little low but hit – double front, slightly locked, step to the side.

Heduit – UB – can’t get up on weiler 1/2 and hops off – maloney, leg break to tkatchev, hit – Ray, strong – pak – van leeuwen, hits with legs – giant full – double front, sits it down

DJDS – UB – Nabieva to pak, lovely – maloney to bhardwaj, clean – van leeuwen, good – inbar, bloes, front giant full – giant 1/2 – DLO 1/1, hop forward. Excellent routine.

Osyssek the alternate will work out in the 5th spot.

Very important for France that Melanie’s routine looked that hit.

The French physio is doing something to Boyer’s back and I’m SO jealous of it. He’s basically giving her a full back muscle reinvention.

We’re in a slight delay now as they work on the lights. We had a row of lights over vault go out so it’s pretty dark over there right now. Still 1000X brighter than that time they had that Birmingham world cup in the dark.

Stillllll waiting…..

OK we’re finally moving to the second event now.

Heduit – BB – switch to switch – wolf doubel, good – onodi, some knee position, leg up check – side aerial to loso, check, not large – switch ring is risking a credit downgrade – aerial is solid – and a double pike dismount to her hands and knees

Friess falls on her mount – resumes and hits a front tuck with an arm wave – switch and switch 1/2, leg up check – back tuck – double tuck, step to the side.

Campos for Mexico just showed a nice bars with a piked Hindorff.

Boyer hits her layout 2 feet, leg up – connects switch to switch 1/2 to split jump – aerial, solid – side aerial, also secure – side somi, nice – double pike, sits it down.

France might want to look into not dismounting beam in the comp. See if that’s an option.

MDJDS – BB – front pike mount, check – front pike, hit – bhs lay 2 feet, holds onto it with a lean – switch to switch 1/2 – aerail to split to bhs – sissone to pike jump – double pike, step back. Some wobbles but nothing huge, a stay on, and overall she looks strong on bars and beam and much better than the Paris WC.

French team working bits and pieces now after their full routines. Melanie goes for her front pike mount and runs forward right off the beam. Tries again and it’s hit.

On to floor for France in the third rotation.

Osyssek warms up a nice DLO and Devillard joins the action here, warming up a full-in. Melanie also working full ins.

Boyer – FX – front full to a rebound – pulls around a double L turn – split leap full, good height – double pike, hit – double y spin – L hop full with actual good leg position – wolf turn is hilarious, bottoms out, good one for the wolf turn lowlight reel –

Rooskrantz is up on bars in this rotation – shaposh to pak, solid combination – van leeuwen, hit – piked jaeger is nice – falls on Ray, took it very far – double pike, bounce back – knees down on her dismount

Friess – FX – double front, very deep but pulls it out – front lay to front full, clean leg position on that full, hop forward – double tuck, step back – good leap amplitude

DJDS – FX – FTDT, bounce back OOB – split jump full, around – front loso to double tuck, bounce back – switch ring is lovely, switch 1/1, a bit under rotation – tries to pull around a wolf triple, gets 2.75 – double pike, step back – pretty routine, the landings looked a little uncertain but not major issues on any of them.

Rooskrantz is continuing to have trouble with her dismount on bars.

Devillard also going on FX but looks like just a dance through.

Watching the equipment guys raising the low bar height for Newman-Achee, who was approved to raise them higher after she was not allowed to at CWG. Hard fall on a piked Jaeger, and they’ll lower the bars back down for the other athletes, takes approximately 11 seconds, so how this was ever a big deal that wouldn’t be allowed is beyond me.

Melanie’s timer is so so very high. Her first DTY is very deep, chest down, large lunge to the side and off the mat.

Devillard lands her first rudi somewhat deep, walks back out of it. And Friess lands her first rudi on her hands and knees.

Heduit pulls out a hit DTY. Interested to see if they go again since there were several struggles on necessary vaults for them.

Much stronger DTY from De Jesus Dos Santos on her second try, super high, hop back. Friess down on her second rudi attempt as well. Nice rudi from Devillard on her second attempt, good height, lunge back.

Devillard on to FTYs now. And ends with a late DTY after the announcement of the end of the session. Under the wire! Over the wire?

SUBDIVISION 7

Japan, Netherlands, and Finland gracing us with their presences in this subdivision.

Japan’s give are warming up on floor, Ashikawa on the sideline. Miyata is doing DLO 1/1. Someone just fully slipped on a triple turn attempt and landed on her butt.

Thorsdottir, Volleman, Veerman, and Visser warming up bars.

Sakaguchi – FX – full in, solid secure landing, chest down – 3/1 lovely lovely twisting form, I’m a fan of everything happening here – switch ring – split full – 1.5 to front full, again great twisting form, step OOB – 2.5, step forward. Good one.

Thorsdottir – UB – shaposh to pak, small leg break – nice handstand – maloney to bail, some leg break in maloney – toe full, great finish position, to shoot to high – piked jaeger, lovely – FTDT, small hop. Great routine.

Visser – UB – Does her tkatchev 1/2 to cross grip to yezhova – maloney to pak to toe on – van leeuwen – toe full is excellent – FTDT, hop forward

Veerman – UB – jaeger – stalder tkatchev piked to pak to maloney to bhardwaj, a little ragged on bhardwaj but great combo – van leeuwen, hit, small leg break – FTDT, hop back. Nice hit.

Eythora’s reaction to Visser trying to connect into her yezhova is all of us.

Onto rotation 2, good DTY from Miyata.

Volleman hits loso mount – illusion – bhs to fron ttuck is hit – L turn – side somi is secure – double turn, also hit – swtich to cat leap – korbut – gainer layout, a bit short, hop forward

Thorsdottir – BB – loso mount – aerial, small pause before split to bhs – side aerial to loso and falls – hits her split to y spin to full turn combo – illusion is good – 2.5 dismount, hop to the side.

Sakaguchi with a really nice DTY as well. Japan looks strong with these vaults, which can carry them a long way in terms of team score.

De Ruiter shows a lovely split and turn combination down the length of the beam to be like YES I’M ONE OF THEM. Her 1.5 dismount is pretty low and she was having some trouble with that.

Thorsdottir got up and redid her series successfully during the second turns.

In the third rotation, Fukasawa shows some nice combination work – piked ricna to pak, maloney to bhardwaj – van leeuwen

Visser – FX – whip to 3/1 to front tuck combination and she gets it around but so deep and the front tuck is a different direction, more extreme than the Chinese team’s combo – 2/1, small bounce – split leap full – double tuck, very short, lunge forward

Thorsdottir – FX – split jump full – 3/1 to her own sideways front tuck – double L turn to double turn to double y to illusion gets the combination – double tuck, stumble back – 2.5 to front tuck

The last rotation was my break there, but the Japanese team did deign to allow Ashikawa to do a moment of beam at the last second, and she fell twice.Miyata looked quite good on beam.

SUBDIVISION 8

This is the Brazil, Germany, Argentina group. Brazil starts on beam and Germany on floor.

Soares attempted her mount and just sort of rolled to ground – second try is good – wolf double, hit – bhs loso and hops off – aerial to split jump to back tuck was good – the second half was quite strong in this go round.

Andrade – switch, pause before switch 1/2 –  aerial to split ring jump – switch – side aerial – just sort of doing bits and pieces

Saraiva – good on her bhs mount – secure layout to 2 feet – bhs loso loso, right on – switch ring, lovely, little check – aerial, arm wave – split ring jump, arm wave – side somi – split leap to sissone, perfect – double pike, step forward. A good one. Just a couple medium checks.

Pedro goes through her set with a hit, Oliveira falls on her switch split mount the first time, hits it the second time – front tuck, step forward – falls a couple additional times.

On to second routines – Soares hits her mount without trouble this time – a good one, just a pause between her switch and switch 1/2 this time

Andrade to do a full set – good dwitch mount – switch to switch 1/2, a bit short, to split jump – bhs loso, bend at the hips correction – aerial to split ring jump – switch ring, hit – side aerial, a little lean – full turn, check – ro bhs to a timer.

Flavia had a leg up wobble on her loso loso series on her second routine but another hit one, double pike dismount, step back.

Soares – FX – double arabian, step back – full in, kind of cannonballs it, shuffle back – memmel turn – split leap full – double tuck, bounce back – split jump full is nice – double pike, bounce back

Andrade – FX – front full to full in, bounce back OOB – DLO 1/1, nice position in the air, a little short, hop forward – memmel., drops a little early – DLO, lands it very totally OOB, risking off the entire floor, bounce back – double pike, bounce back

Saraiva – FX – whip to fill in, very nice – switch 1/2, so high – DLO, small hop back – split leap 1.5, just a little under – back 1.5 to front full, nice – double pike is very short, hands down. Well it was great until that last pass.

Bezerra up on floor, dance through, with a timer opening pass.

We’ll say Brazil was…..saving it for the meet? in that floor rotation.

We’re starting to see some real vaults here, Andrade with a fab DTY. Flavia with a low chest on her DTY, kind of a jarring landing.

Now Andrade is doing 1/2 on timers. Aka the best Lopez we’ve seen.

Flavia’s second DTY is better, normal.

Andrade pops out a huge Cheng, too huge because she overcooked it with some lunges back. A Biles next?

Seitz is up on bars for Germany – stalder shap to stalder tkatchev, good – jaeger – Chuirch to pak to van leeuwen, leg break – goes over on a cast handstand, was excellent to that point. Back up with toe on full to FTDT, somewhat low with a lunge.

Brazil is done vaulting. Seitz is up to do her second bars routine, well just a second half, starting with the van leeuwen, to toe full to FTDT, good one this time, near stick.

Oliveira went over on a handstand on her first bars routine and came off, but the piked jaeger was nice and high.

Saraiva hiut her piked tkatchev to pak and Maloney to gienger – good routine, lunge forward on double front.

Andrade through very well on her first routine, didn’t do a dismount this time. Was a little crooked on her full in her opening combination but was still able to connect it to the piked tkatchev. The rest was great. Did not connect Pak to Van Leeuwen.

Oliveira through comfortably on her second turn.

Flavia went over on her first cast handstand on her second try and was like, bye I think maybe bars are stupid.

Pedro hitting solid “first up, you can drop it” routines across the events today.

Flavia is back on bars to do a full routine and it’s another strong one.

Andrade back up – Maloney to stalder full attempt, gets through 1/2 turn and can’t get it over and hops off.

Oliveira just added a double front 1/2 out, which was nice but not performed amid the rest of the routine.

Andrade gets her stalder full on the next turn.

And now it’s an extreme photo shoot period. An interesting day for both Andrade and Brazil overall, some up and downishness. Would still score well, but not everything they can do. We’ll see in competition whether this was Andrade just sort of not going all out in PT.

SUBDIVISION 9

It’s time for the Italy Moment (Training Edition), which I am very interested to see. Depending on who you listen to, Italy is either FINISHED or THE SAME AS EUROS. Probably both. And neither.

Also interested to see what’s up with Iorio, who was a last second addition as alternate. She’s up here with grips on as they get ready for bars.

Esposito is up to start out the full routines now – Church to pak, good legs together on pak – maloney to bhardwaj, nice and high – van leeuwen, legs together – giant full – higgins – double front, chest down but landed, really nice on the bars.

Alice D’Amato going second – maloney to tkatchev, hit – ricna a little close, connects to pak – adds an extra Stalder before her shap 1/2 attempt, peels off, did not look like it felt fun on her back. Resumes front giant, front giant full, double front 1/2 out, sticks it.

Iorio – Stalder tkatchev piked + pak + maloney + stalder 1/2 to somewhat wonky yezhova to van leeuwen, so there’s that as a whole combination – front giant full to double front, step forward. Put her on the team when?

Villa – tkatchev to pak to maloney to bhardwaj, nice legs together – van leeuwen – front giant full, takes it right to the edge of the bars – FTDT, nice landing

Mandriota – Ricna, hit – pak, straddled – stalder full – toe on to van leeuwen, a bit of legs – stalder 1/2 to front stalder to rudi. Fine hit for her. They won’t use it, but fine hit.

Maggio – Ray , adds an extra swing into pak, some legs break – stalder full to maloney to tkatchev – didn’t do a whole routine, just bits.

Alice got up again and fell on her tkatchev out of the Maloney.

Villa just got up and did Maloney + Pak + Maloney + Pak + Maloney + Pak and it was perfect.

Alice’s third try – maloney to tkatchev -stalder tkatchev piked to pak – van leeuwen – front giant full double front. A hit. That was the one.

Italy is one of the very few women’s teams throughout training that has taken the entire rotation time. Most of them are finishing each event 5 minutes early and then are just like……….

Maggio – BB – switch – switch to sissone, nice – bhs loso, slide back – full turn – switch ring, hit – side aerial, good – aerial, just some soft knee – side somi, arm wave – double pike, step back. Good one.

We have a Taiwanese athlete down on floor.

D;Amato – BB – hits her punch front, step – bhs loso, solid – switch to split – switch ring, small hesitation, holds it – aerial to split – wolf double nearly goes insane but she keeps it on – 2.5, a bit short, hop back

Iorio – BB – loso mount, excellent – side aerial, solid – switch to sissone, good extension – bhs loso loso, check – aerial to split ring jump, arm wave – y spin – double pike dismount is a struggle, landed in triangle shape, but some more nice work from her today.

Villa – falls on opening loso mount – round off back tuck, second fall – wolf turn triple, lean – switch to split, lovely – double turn, check – side aerial, hit – 2/1, hop back. Oh Giorgia.

Mandriota – switch mount, hit – switch to split to straight jump full – bhs loso, falls – aerial, knees – split ring jump – side aerial, lean to the side – double turn, pretty – 2/1, small hop

Esposito – wolf turn double, hit – switch to split jump, hit – side aerial, some feet into a good sissone and a very low wolf jump – timer dismount. Not quite at the level there that we saw at nationals but another hit. Everyone but Villa looking pretty confident on beam.

Villa saves the mount on her second try, leg up wobble. She goes for the tuck full this time and falls.

On to floor, where Maggio is going first for full routines (today’s rotation order is giving me nothing) – wolf turn double that she kind of bottoms out and rolls out of – DLO, good height – front loso to double tuck, small bounce – split ring leap to switch ring 1/2 – FTDT, small bounce – switch ring – double tuck, bounce back. Good one.

D’Amato – y spin 2.5ish – whip whip to 3/1, just pulls it around, bounce to the side – double pike, chest down, hop forward – wolf double – switch – split leap full – split jump full – front 2/1 – switch ring is nice, another useful routine.

Mandriota – wolf double – whip to 3/1, lots of leg crossing but not much movement on landing – back 1.5 to front full, hop forward – switch ring  and switch 1/2 – y spin to double turn, a bit of a struggle to get into but got them around – fouble pike, chest down, hop forward.

Esposito – wolf triple, solid – 2.5 to front lay, solid, littel hop forward – split leap 1.5 attempt, not quite around – good memmel turn position though, connected to illusion – 1.5 to front full is short, step to the side and OOB – doubel tuck, also OOB there.

Villa looks like she’s just doing a dance through.

Iorio is also doing a dance through, which would compromise her chance of being put on the team if they want four for floor, even though bars and beam would bee at “put her in the five.”

OK I have to check out now. So let’s assume everything goes fine on Italy’s vault, and maybe someone will keep you updated on GB. Until tomorrow!
